01x17 - Percy Runs Away

Henry, James and Gordon had been
shut up for being naughty

and longed to be let out again.

The Fat Controller arrived. "l hope
you see you aren't so important.

"A new t*nk engine and Thomas
and Edward have worked the lines

"but you can come out if you are good."
"Yes, sir, we will be."

"But this 'no shunting' nonsense
must stop."

He told Percy, Edward and Thomas to
play on the branch line for a few days.

They ran off to find Annie and Clarabel.

The two coaches were so pleased
to see Thomas again.

Edward and Percy played with trucks.
"Stop!" they screamed.

But the engines went on shunting
till the trucks were tidily arranged.

Edward took some trucks to the quarry.

Percy didn't mind being alone.
He was cheeky to the others.

"Hurry!" he called, and they got cross.

After a lot of shunting, he waited
for the signalman to set the points.

He wasn't paying attention.

Edward warned Percy, "Whistle to the
signalman." But Percy forgot.

Percy waited.
The points were set so he couldn't move.

He looked and whistled in horror.

Rushing towards him was Gordon
with the express!

"Ooh!" groaned Gordon.
"Get out of my way!"

(Brakes screeching)

Percy opened his eyes.
Gordon had stopped inches away.

Percy moved.
"l won't stay here - l'll run away."

He went straight through
Edward's station and up Gordon's hill.

He was tired but couldn't stop.
He had no driver to apply the brakes.

"l want to stop!" he puffed.

The signalman saw Percy
was in trouble so set the points.

Percy puffed wearily onto a siding
and a bank of earth.

He was too tired to care.

"l want to stop!"

"l have stopped," he puffed thankfully.

"Never mind," said the workmen,
"Have a drink and some coal."

Presently, Gordon arrived.

"Well done. You stopped
a nasty accident."

"Sorry l was cheeky", said Percy,
"You were clever to stop."

Then Gordon helped pull Percy out.

Percy is still cheeky,

but he's always careful on the main line.
