And that's the way
to ride the rails. [chuckles]
Well, it's one way.
My way!
When I worked in India,
I saw lots of different ways
of doing things,
and some of them
really surprised me.
[whistle toots]
All aboard
for a big adventure!

goats bleat]

[chickens clucking,

- It was my first day
on the Indian Railway,
and everything was new to me.
Apart from my friend, Ashima,
who I first met
when she came to Sodor.
- Well, Thomas,
what do you think?
- I thought Sodor was busy,
but that must be
the busiest station
I have ever seen.
- Oh, yes, the Indian Railway
is the busiest and biggest
in the world.
Some say it's the king
of all railways.
I know what you're thinking.
- Uh, you do?
- You're thinking,
"Whoa, check out the crown."
- Uh, I was?
- Maybe you should introduce
yourself first, Rajiv.
- Oh, yes, silly me.
I'm Rajiv,
the Royal Engine.
The pleasure is all yours.
[horn blares]
[gasps] Noor Jehan.
- Just because
you have a crown
doesn't mean you're royal.
- Our railway is also
the most glamorous.
- And the most hard-working.
[whistle toots]
- [chuckles] You'll soon get
used to working here, Thomas.
It's not to different to
the railway on Sodor, you know?
[elephant trumpets]
- [gasps]
Wow, we don't have those in
the shunting yards on Sodor.
- [giggles] Oh, elephants
used to be everywhere
and can still be seen
in some places in India.
There was a time when
elephants used to work
in the shunting yards.
They used to help
shunt the cars
when the engines
were busy.
- Elephants can't shunt cars.
- [chuckles]
Yes, they can.
Some elephants are stronger
than engines, Thomas.
[soft thud]
- Whoa!
Was that an elephant?
- No, just me,
bringing you your cars.
[whistle toots]
- On my way
to deliver my cars,
I saw many more new things.
Amazing palaces
and monuments.
Very high bridges.
And even animals traveling
on top of trains.
[goat bleats]
♪ ♪
[bleats]
Oh.
[chuckles]
♪ ♪
Ashima, why have you stopped?
- I'm waiting for her
to wake up.
- Why don't you blow your
whistle to make her move?
That's what Sir Topham Hatt
would tell us to do.
- But, Thomas,
cows are very special
to many people in India,
and if a cow wants to sleep,
well, we let it sleep.
- [whispered]
Oh, okay, Ashima.
I'll let her sleep too.

- [snoring softly]
- I couldn't believe it.
Elephants, goats,
chickens, cows.
It felt to me like the animals
were in charge
of the railway in India.
I didn't think that could
ever happen on Sodor.
[whimsical music]

- Thomas, the t*nk engine,
you've come in
on the wrong platform.
- Ahhh!
- You're causing confusion
and delay
Watch where you're going.
[trumpets]
[dramatic musical sting]
- [gasps]
[yelling]
♪ ♪
Um...
Oh, I really need
to stop daydreaming.
- Crumbling crowns.
- Oh, Rajiv,
I'm so glad you're here.
- I'm sure you are,
but what are you
doing down there?
- I came off the rails.
Oh, could you fetch
a breakdown crane, please?
- Um...
- They'll probably give
your crown an extra polish
for rescuing me?
- Do you think so?
Okay.
[whistle toots]
- Thanks, Rajiv!
[sighs]
[soft thud]
What--what's that?
[elephant grumbles]
[quirky music]
[trumpets]
- And hello to you too,
Mrs. Elephant.
[chuckles]
Uh, what are you do-oooo-ing?
[panting]
I'm not sure we see
eye to eye on this, do we?
Oh-oh, I think I'd rather
wait for a breakdown crane
if it's okay with you.
[panting]
Oh, dear.
It's not easy to get me
back onto the rails again,
but thank you for try--
oh-oh-oh!
Wow!
[whistle toots]
Thanks, Mrs. Elephant!
You did it!
- Thomas?
[whistle toots]
- Thomas, are you okay?
- He is now, but I was
supposed to rescue him.
- I'm sorry if I wasted
your time, Rajiv.
But how was I to know
an elephant was going
to rescue me?
And you were right, Ashima,
elephants really are
as strong as engines.
- Trusty Trunky, I know her.
She's helped me before.
- [laughing] Hey!
What was that for?
- Thomas, she's washing you.
- Oh. Thank you again,
Trusty Trunky.
Whoo-hoo!
- Hey, watch the crown!
- [laughs]
- [laughs]
- I knew I'd make lots
of new friends in India,
but I never thought one
of them would be an elephant.
- [trumpets]
[bell rings]
[whistle toots]
Have you ever had to try
a new way of doing something?
It's not always an easy thing
to get used to.
One time, a whale got
stranded on the beach
and Toad thought of a new way
of getting her back
into the water.
Oliver thought it was
a silly idea,
but in the end,
we all gave Toad's idea a try,
and it worked.
I'd been lifted
back onto the rails
by cranes loads of times,
but I'd never been helped
by an elephant.
When I needed help
getting back onto the tracks,
I learned that elephants
could be really useful too.
Maybe you'll get
a chance to discover
a new way of doing something.
Give it at try.
