[Victoria narrating] - A séance has been held in the great house of Collinwood,
a séance which has suspended time and space
and sent one girl on an uncertain
and frightening journey into the past
back to the year .
There each of the Collins ancestors resembles
a present day member of the Collins family,
but the names and relationships have changed
and Victoria Winters finds herself a stranger
in a sea of familiar faces.
Within this nightmare of forces not of this earth,
evil, malevolent slowly plot her impending destruction.
- Ah.
It's been a long time, hasn't it,
since I have worked for you.
You must see each other face to face
and watch that each of you obeys my least command.
You will hear the impotent cries and incantations
of an idle fraud
of his common search of a witch,
but he is a fake,
but he is a worthless chant whenever reach you.
But with his help and your yours,
I will rid this house not only of an enemy,
a young and beautiful enemy.
But I will rid it of all suspicion
that might in time be aimed at me.
Mr. Trask, the so called reverend will find his witch,
she will come running to him.
You are the halls of her room;
you are the place where she is lying now.
She is enclosed within my power,
stand fast, keep watch, the moment is almost here.

- Reverend Trask is coming here to this house?
- He'll be here any minute.

then this nonsense will be over with once and for all.

trapped in the past,

you've got to believe that as difficult as it may be.

that our family is troubled with now?

the Collins family will be plagued.

- I better get back to the room that Sarah hid me in.

Reverend Trask will find me in his room
even before he begins his... whatever it is.
Nonsense, he will not come upstairs.
- But if he has to perform this ritual.
- As I understand it, it is done at the threshold.
According to the superstition, all - all witches
are forced to cross the threshold
at the cl*max of the exorcism,
so he needn't come anywhere over the threshold.
And if he will not do it.

if that's what you want to call yourself.
As far as I know there is no witch in this house.
- Ms. Collins has convinced me
that Victoria Winters is hiding in this house
and you know where she is.
I must repeat,
surrender her to me before I am forced to capture
and expose her.
- Come now,
you wouldn't want to have your little exorcise ruined,
now would you.
- The right of exorcism is a terrible and painful act.
It is a direct encounter with evil itself.
Now, for the last time, hand over the witch.
- There is no witch in this house. - Then you leave me no choice.
I must proceed with the rite.
- You will not go past this room.
- There is no need.
From the doorway, my power
touches the utmost reaches of this house.
The next mortal to cross this threshold
shall be known to hold the power of evil.
I proclaim the power of goodness
and I announce its presence to this entire house.
- If you'll excuse me,
I've got more important things to do.
- I give warning to the powers of darkness
that the powers of light are at hand.
Yield yourself to their command
and spare yourself their awesome force,
which is about to strike your very soul.

Victoria Winters,
the powers of light have come to do battle
with the powers of darkness.
Your destruction is at hand.
[Reverend Trask] Victoria Winters.

Come forth.
Surrender yourself to the powers of light.

I call it to this room of my own creation.

drive you forth in terror and in fear.

I summon you from the evil, icy waste of the world beyond,
burn, burn, burn!
[Reverend Trask] - Victoria Winters.

- Why doesn't he stop?
[Reverend Trask] - Answer the summons of the powers of light,
answer.
Come forward, answer.
Surrender yourself before the consuming fires
of goodness drive you forth.

[Angelique] - Heart of fire.
Heart of fire that burns in the heart of ice.

[Victoria] - Help! Help! Fire.
- Miss Winters. - [Victoria] Help! Help!
- Eye of fire.

- Victoria Winters.
Victoria Winters, your name is now known to fire,
surrender yourself, come forth,
you will be consumed, you will be consumed.
[Barnabas] - Miss Winters, what is it?
Miss Winters --
- Evil show thyself.
The powers of darkness are conquered now,
come forth, come forth.
You are summoned by the forces of everlasting light.
[Victoria] - Help! Help! Fire!
Fire! Somebody help!
Everybody run! Help!
- Oh! - The powers of darkness are conquered now!
- Let me go, please! - The powers of light have triumphed!
- Please, let me go! - Down witch.
Down on your knees.
Down! Down! Down to the dust!
- I have the witch! - Barnabas!
- I have the witch! - Please, no!

Where's the Reverend Trask?
- Gone.
Oh, well then the whole foolishness is over with it.
- But Miss Winters is gone too.
- Miss Winters?

There was no evidence of any fire
and now I can't find her anymore.
- Oh, she must be somewhere in the house.

- We both know there's no such thing as a witch.
However, we do know so little about the girl
except that she's strange.
That's no indication that she's a witch.
- It's all so confusing. - Yes.
- So much has happened that can't be explained.
I - I mean that sudden choking you experienced,
for instance.
- Yes and Sarah's sudden illness.
- Not to mention your father's disappearance at that time.
- I just don't believe in witches.
- Of course you don't, neither do I.
- It would explain everything so easily.
Miss Winters a witch?
I wish I knew exactly what happened just now.
- Well, it seems as though Reverend Trask's little ritual
had some effect on her after all.

nothing is very clear.

[thinking] You're lying.
I searched the sewing room
when I was looking for Miss Winters,

- Miss Winters is the witch,
even Barnabas believes it now.
Perhaps some of the old customs can be revived.
We all know what the fate of a witch should be,
ashes, ashes, ashes.
