NARRATOR: There is one woman who lives at Collinwood

who will not sleep this night.

Cassandra Collins will lie awake

thinking about the evil plan she has set in motion,

thinking about the events that will soon take place

in the hospital not far away.

There, Victoria Winters has answered the summons

of an old and dear friend,

who believes he is dying.

Where is she? Where is she?

[KNOCKING AT THE DOOR] Pop, she'll be here as soon as she can.

Oh, Vicki, thank heaven you're here.

I got here as fast as I could.

[GROANING] Thank you, Vicki.

Listen, listen to what I have to tell you.

I must tell you the dream before I die.

I must or I'll have no peace.

You're not going to die.

If you'll help you to rest...

I'm dying, I know it, but I'm not afraid of that.

If only I can tell you my dream.

All right.

All right, tell me. Tell me your dream.

[DRAMATIC MUSIC PLAYING] ♪♪

[ERRIE THEME MUSIC PLAYING] ♪♪

SAM: The dream will frighten you,

as it has me.

I can't help it.

[GASPS] I was asleep

and in my dream I heard a knock.

[KNOCK AT THE DOOR]

Ms. Winters, I must ask you to leave this room at once.

No, no!

Professor Stokes, what are you doing?

There's no time to explain anything now.

Will you please wait for me outside the room?

MAGGIE: But my father wants to talk to her.

I'm afraid he'll have to wait until he talks to me.

Vicky, don't go.

Forgive me, Miss Winters.

- Professor Stokes. - It's for the best.

MAGGIE: Professor, I asked you to come here tonight

because I thought you could help us.

So I can, but you must be patient and trust me.

MAGGIE: I will if you'll tell me what you're doing.

Mr. Evans?

I'm sorry, but it had to be done.

I've got to tell her the dream.

I won't be able to rest.

Mr. Evans, in a moment I shall go into the waiting room

and send Miss Winters home.

MAGGIE: You can't let him go on suffering like this!

Please, I realize how difficult this is for your father,

but I must impress on both of you

how dangerous it would be

if the dream went one step further.

But he's so frightened, Professor.

All I can say to you is that if Miss Winters

is allowed to have the dream,

it may prove fatal to the next person who has it.

TIMOTHY: So, you must do your best to refrain

from telling her your dream.

Meanwhile, I'll do what I can

to alleviate the mental t*rture you're suffering.

I don't know, it all happened so suddenly.

TIMOTHY: Is he sleeping?

but ever since it happened, Pop's been insisting

that it was, unintentional.

It was just an accident.

for a very short time, hadn't he?

TIMOTHY: But for some strange reason,

he believed there was a strong bond of friendship

between himself and Adam, didn't he?

I don't know, I suppose so.

What does this have to do with the dream?

It's just rather curious.

Come, it's time I had a talk with Miss Winters.

[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC PLAYING] ♪♪

[DOOR SLAMS]

VICTORIA: I hope you have some explanation.

The situation required drastic action.

VICTORIA: Is that all you have to say?

No, I might add that you should be grateful to me

for arriving when I did.

- Grateful? - Yes,

for the moment I've prevented you from having

what would have been a most terrifying experience.

And what about Mr. Evans?

TIMOTHY: He's sleeping now.

- Will I be able to see him when he wakes up? - No.

For the same reason I wouldn't let you see him now.

He's suffering the terrible effects of a dream curse.

You were the person he must tell the dream to

because you will be the next to have it.

I don't understand any of this.

You do believe I know what I'm talking about, don't you?

VICTORIA: I don't know what I believe.

TIMOTHY: Miss Winters, your recent experience in the past

taught you some rather frightening things

about witchcraft, isn't that correct?

Yes.

Well, then let me simply say that in this situation,

witchcraft is at work

and you'll appreciate the danger we have to face.

Professor, are you trying to say that this dream

was caused by a witch?

Are you skeptical, Miss Evans?

I don't believe in witches.

Then how do you account for the fact that nine people

have had an identical dream?

I don't know.

Would you believe there might be a reason for it?

Yes, I suppose so.

Then try to believe that I know what that reason is,

and that I'm doing my best to cope with it.

Miss Winters, I think the best thing

for you to do now is to go home.

I can't leave here.

Then I must ask you to promise me

that under no circumstances

- will you go into Mr. Evan's room. - I can't do that.

He's my friend and if he needs me, then I'll--

His need for you indicates a danger,

not to you only.

I think it's inhuman for one person

not to respond to another's suffering.

TIMOTHY: There is nothing you can do to ease his suffering,

I assure you.

Now, will you promise me not to go in?

Behind the doors, strange music.

Strange riddle made no sense.

He's trying to tell you about the dream.

He's talking about that riddle he had in the dream.

[GROANS] Vicky, where did you go?

Listen very carefully.

The dream began with a knock at the door.

There was no one there with me

and I was frightened.

I didn't want to answer but the knocking kept up.

I got out of bed and I went to the door.

When I opened it, I saw...

I saw...

I'm listening, tell me what you saw.

I... I saw, I saw...

Pop. Pop!

He's dead.

- Doctor! - He's dead!

- Doctor! - Pop, please.

- Pop, please. - Doctor!

[GATE SQUEAKING]

[SOBBING] Vicky, I want to go back inside.

I want to be with him.

The doctors have done everything that they could.

You've got to stay out here

and you've got to get a hold of yourself.

Vicky, how can I get a hold of myself

when it was all my fault?

Maggie.

If I kept calm, it wouldn't have happened.

You mustn't blame yourself.

I panicked, that's how it happened.

Pop thought that Adam was trying to hurt me and he wasn't.

I was just so scared.

You had good reason to be.

Oh, Vicky, it's so senseless.

He was such a good man, and now he's gone.

I don't know what I'm going to do.

[SOBBING]

Adam?

[THINKING] He can't be very far away.

[FURNITURE SCREECHING] Wait, don't run away.
