- Darkness envelops the walls of Collinwood.

There is danger in this night.

For a seance has just been held in the great house,

and the spirit of a mysterious woman

has spoken from beyond the grave.

A new reign of terror is about to begin.

- All right, everyone's gone now.

Why did you do it?

- Do what?

- Stop the seance.

- I was afraid.

- Afraid?

- I was afraid for you, Carolyn.

I did not like what was happening to you.

- I don't believe you.

You were frightened all right, but you were

frightened of something else.

- How do you know what I was frightened of?

- I don't.

That's why I'm trying to find out.

- All right, all right, all right.

I'll level with you.

I do not know why I stopped the seance.

- You don't know?

- No, something just came over me.

I felt I had to do it.

I don't know why.

- Chris, I don't understand it.

- Neither do I.

- I wonder who we could have contacted during the seance,

who that woman could have been.

- I don't know.

- Have you ever heard of anyone named Magda?

- No.

- Who could she be?

- Do we have to talk about that?

- No. No.

Let's talk about something else.

- What is it?

- She's still here. - Who?

- The woman.

The one who contacted us during the seance.

She's still here.

She's still in this room.

[theme music]

- Good grief, Carolyn.

- Don't tell me it's my imagination.

She's here. - How do you know?

- I can sense it.

- Oh, will you stop it?

- You're frightened, too.

- I am not frightened.

I don't like all this nonsense.

- Chris, when did you stop the seance?

What was I saying? - What does it matter?

- I want to know. - All right.

You were saying some, some ridiculous something

about a curse.

- A curse?

- Yes, a curse.

- But why would that upset you so?

- I was not upset.

- Chris, could it...

Could it possibly have anything to do with you?

- Oh, I don't believe it.

Now you're really going overboard.

- Am I?

- Carolyn, will you cut this out?

Will you please stop talking about all this insanity?

It doesn't mean anything.

It doesn't mean anything at all.

- David?

David?

- What?

- David, wake up. It's Amy.

I have to talk to you.

- What do you want?

- He's angry.

- What? - He's angry.

- Who's angry?

- Quentin.

Something has happened.

Something that's made him very angry.

- How do you know?

- I just do.

- You're just making this all up.

- I am not.

- Why would Quentin be angry?

- That's what I don't know.

That's what we've got to find out.

- How?

- Well, you have the telephone.

We can ask him.

- I've tried talking in to the telephone

a hundred times since the other day.

I haven't heard anything.

- Well, try now.

- OK.

Hello? Hello?

I can't hear anything.

Ah!

- What is it?

- I can hear him breathing.

I hear...

I hear him breathing again.

Say something to me.

Say something.

- Won't he talk to you?

- No.

- Give it to me.

Hello?

Yes, I understand.

- He spoke to you?

- Yes.

- What did he say?

- He said she would try to stop us.

- She? - I don't know who he meant.

- Stop us from doing what?

I don't know.

- He wants us to find him and he wants us to do it tonight.

- Well, if you're--

you're sure you're feeling better now?

- A little, yes.

- OK.

I tell you what, I'll call you tomorrow.

- All right.

- Oh, and, uh, I'll stop by and see Amy, too,

if that's all right?

- Yes.

Come by anytime.

Hello, Uncle Roger.

- Hello, kitten. Hello, Jennings.

- Mr. Collins, how are you?

- Well, I'm exhausted and I still have work to do.

So if you'll excuse me.

- Oh, sure.

I'm just on my way out. - Good night.

- Good night.

- I'll just see Chris out.

I'll be right back.

- All right.

- Uncle Roger?

- This is odd.

- What is?

- This letter.

I just found it addressed to my father, Jameson Collins.

It's postdated .

He must have been a boy when this was sent to him.

- What does the letter say?

- "Dear Jameson, you must return to Collinwood.

I need your help.

You must intercede with Oscar.

Only you can save me."

- What does it mean?

- Well, I don't know.

- Well, who is the letter from?

- It's signed "Quentin."

- Quentin?

- So we have a Quentin Collins as an ancestor.

Actually, I didn't know very much about him.

I think he spent most of his time abroad.

- You say you found this letter? - Yes.

- Where?

- I found it in the book, and the book fell off the piano.

- Fell?

- Yes, it was here and then it fell from the piano

onto the floor.

I wasn't anywhere near it when it happened.

- How could a book fall from the piano by itself?

- Well, I don't know.

- Uncle Roger?

- What?

- She did it.

- Who?

- Magda.

She wanted us to see that letter.

- Magda? What are you talking about?

- I don't understand any of it either

but the spirit of a woman named Magda exists in this house.

And for some reason, she wanted us to see that letter.

But why?

Why?

- I'd like to say all this is nonsense.

A seance, books falling...

- But you can't.

- I don't know what to think.

- Uncle Roger, you didn't imagine that book

falling from the piano. - No.

- And I didn't imagine what happened at the seance.

- But this letter, what does it mean?

What possible significance could it have?

- Stop them.

- Stop them?

Stop who?

- What did I just say?

- You just said, "Stop them."

What did you mean?

- I don't know.

I don't know why I said what I said.

I didn't mean to say it.

The words just came out of my mouth.

She must've been speaking through me.

It must have been some kind of warning.

- Oh, I wish I understood what was going on around here.

- She's still in this room.

- This Magda, whoever she is?

- She's still here.

And she just spoke through me.

It must be some sort of warning.

Someone in this house is in some sort of danger.

- Who?

- I don't know.

It could be anyone of us.

- I know!

- What?

- Where Quentin wants us to go. - Where?

- To the storage room.

- How do you know he wants us to go there?

- I just do.

- You're always pretending you know things when you really

don't know them.

- I am not.

Besides, where else would he want us to go?

We found the telephone in the storage room, didn't we?

- Yes. But--

- Are you afraid to go there?

- I'm not afraid of anything, Amy.

- Well, I'm afraid of some things, but not of Quentin.

I want to find Quentin.

I want to see a real ghost.

- So do I.

- And I think we ought to--

- Shh!

- What is it?

- I think I hear someone.

- Why are you so worried about David, Uncle Roger?

- I'm not.

Not really.

I just want to see that everything is all right.

- Quick. Hide over there.

- David?

- Hello, father.

- Are you...

Are you all right?

- All right?

- Well, I just thought that--

- What?

- Never mind.

It's late.

Why aren't you asleep?

- Um, I woke up and I couldn't get back to sleep.

So I decided I'd read for a while.

- Now, it's too late for that.

You just close your eyes and try to get to sleep

and then you will.

- OK.

- I'll turn your light off for you.

Good night, son.

- Good night, father.

- Oh, um, David, if, um, if you need me for anything tonight,

come to me.

- Why would I need you?

- Just remember what I'm saying.

- OK.

- Good night.

- Good night.

- It was lucky you heard him.

If he'd found me in here, he would have made me go to bed

then we couldn't have any fun at all.

- I know.

- What's the matter?

- Nothing.

It's just my father.

He was acting so strange.

He never says good night to me.

And why was he keep asking me whether I was all right?

- I don't know.

- I can't understand him sometimes.

- Well, do you suppose he's gone to bed?

- Probably.

- Well, we better make sure he's asleep before we go

and search for Quentin.

We'd better make sure everybody is asleep or they'll stop us.

- Then we'll have to wait a little while.

- David, do you know what I think?

- What?

- I think we're going to find Quentin tonight.

- Why were you suddenly so concerned

about David, Uncle Roger?

- I don't know, kitten.

It's a feeling I had.

I can't describe it.

- He is all right, isn't he? - Yes, he's fine now.

I'm not worried about him anymore.

- Do you hear anything? - No.

- Do you think it's late enough?

- Yes.

Everybody's probably asleep by now.

I'm going to get my flashlight.

Come on.

- All right.

- Wait.

Amy, you've got to be real quiet.

And we don't want anybody to hear

us so don't say anything till we're inside the west wing, OK?

- Yes.

- Come on.

Amy, it's gonna be dark in there so stay close to me, OK?

- I will.

- What happened to your flashlight?

- I don't know.

- It seems like somebody grabbed it out of my hands.

- But-- but there's no one here.

- I know.

There it is.

Come on.

Let's go.

Amy! - What is it?

- A hand.

- What?

- A hand, it's...

It's pushing me backwards.

- David.

- It's OK, now.

The hand's gone.

- What do you suppose it was?

- Quentin told us that someone was going to try and stop us.

Some, some woman.

It was probably her.

Or her ghost.

- I'm scared.

Are you?

- Just a little.

- If you're too scared to go on, I wouldn't blame you.

- No, I'm not.

- You're braver than I am.

- Because you're a girl.

Come on, Amy.

It's locked.

- It wasn't the other day.

- Somebody locked it.

- What are we going to do? - Don't worry.

There's another way into the west wing.

- There is? - Yes.

But it's a secret way.

Hardly anybody knows about it.

So you keep it a promise that you won't tell anyone, right?

- I promise I'll never tell.

- OK.

Come on.

- Oh, kitten, it's very late.

We ought to go to bed.

- I don't think I'll be able to sleep, Uncle Roger.

- Well, it won't be easy for me either,

but I think we should try.

- I suppose.

- Oh, I have some sleeping pills, if you want to try one.

- No, thanks.

Actually, I may be able to go to sleep.

I am exhausted.

- Good night, kitten.

- Good night.

- Look.

- David.

Go on in.

- I thought I heard something.

- I didn't.

David!

- Somebody pushed that over.

It must have been her.

Whoever she is, she wants us to go back.

- Maybe we should go back.

- No, we can't let her stop us.

- Do you really want to go on?

- Yes.

- Will you take my hand?

- Is anyone here?

- Quentin?

Quentin?

- I guess he isn't here.

- I was so sure he'd be here.

- Well, I guess you were wrong.

- What shall we do now?

I guess we'll just leave.

There's no point in waiting here.

- All right.

- The door...

It's jammed or something.

I can't get it open.

- Try!

- I can't.

It won't budge.

Oh, Amy, we're locked in here.
