NARRATOR: The Great House at Collinwood,

in the dark and frightening world of parallel time,

where Barnabas Collins fights to put an end

to the evils caused by one woman.

On this night, the future of Quentin Collins is at stake.

Accused of m*rder, Quentin could eventually be hanged

unless Barnabas can prove that Angelique Collins

is really the guilty one.

[eerie music] [fire crackling]

You will do my bidding now.

Will you not?

Yes.

There is a g*n in the desk drawer.

Go and find it.

Now, take the g*n to my room,

to Angelique's room,

and there, wait for Quentin.

He will come to you.

And when he does,

you will lift the g*n and aim it at his heart.

And you will pull the trigger.

Do you understand me, Maggie?

Hurry now, go quickly.

Quickly, Maggie!

Hurry!

[whimpering]

Can you hear my voice?

Then speak to me.

Do you hear me? Speak.

[suspenseful music]

Claude North is with her now.

He's going to make her speak.

There was nothing I could do to stop him.

No.

In a matter of minutes, you're going to be destroyed.

I can't be.

But before you go, you're going to sign a confession

clearing Quentin Collins.

I will never do that.

And you're going to tell me where Julia Hoffman is.

Never.

Angelique, in minutes it'll be all over for you.

Now sign this confession.

I beg you!

I returned to destroy Quentin, not to save him.

But this will give you peace.

Peace... I don't want peace.

I want Quentin's destruction, and I will have it.

You have only minutes, seconds.

That may be true, dear Barnabas,

but so has Quentin Collins.

[dramatic music]

[eerie music]

Maggie, no!

Roxanne, you can speak.

You will speak.

I

can

speak.

[suspenseful music]

[screaming]

[screaming]

[dramatic music]

[dial clicking]

Hello, Inspector Hamilton.

This is Barnabas Collins.

I'm calling you to tell you that Alexis Stokes is dead.

Just a moment ago.

Yes, I do, but I think it's best that you come here first.

Yes, I'll be waiting for you.

Alexis is dead?

Quentin, you better come down here.

It's time you heard the whole truth.

How did she die?

Maggie caused it, didn't she?

You are completely wrong about Maggie.

Oh, am I?

Barnabas, Maggie just tried to k*ll me.

Where?

In Angelique's room.

She had a g*n pointing at my heart.

And suddenly, at the last moment,

she fell to the floor, unconscious.

Yes. How do you know?

So that was her last act?

She knew she was going to die,

so she devised a way for you to go with her.

What are you talking about?

Maggie pointed that g*n at you

because she was put under a spell by Angelique.

Are you crazy?

Angelique is dead.

Yes, she's dead, finally.

Well, at least there'll be no more murders.

Come in here, Quentin.

Alexis.

BARNABAS: No, that body was not Alexis.

It was Angelique.

That's impossible.

BARNABAS: She always said that she would

return from the grave, and she did.

With the help of her father and one other person.

Barnabas, how can anyone bring the dead back to life?

I don't know how exactly he accomplished it,

but he did have a victim.

Her name was Roxanne, a young girl.

And he successfully transferred her life force

into Angelique's body.

I don't believe it.

I opened Angelique's tomb.

I saw that she was dead.

Yes, you saw the body six months after

and it was perfectly preserved.

I destroyed the body, Barnabas.

I saw it burn.

After Angelique changed places with Alexis.

Are you telling me that I destroyed Alexis?

Yes.

Oh, my God.

BARNABAS: I tried to get her to make a confession

that she k*lled Bruno, but she refused to sign it.

Angelique?

I don't know, I find it so-- so hard to believe.

You've got to believe it because it's true.

Now that she's gone, I don't have

any way of proving that I didn't k*ll Bruno.

We can find the proof if we can find Julia Hoffman.

What does she have to do with this?

She knew that Angelique k*lled Bruno.

She may be our only hope.

Now, where did you leave Maggie?

In Angelique's room.

Well, then you better go to her.

Let me handle everything here.

The inspector will be here very shortly.

All right.

[suspenseful music]

Do you know what caused her death?

Yes, I do.

Kindly don't keep me in suspense, Mr. Collins.

You'd better sit down, Inspector.

I will tell you the whole story, from beginning to end.

[dramatic music]

Roxanne, my darling, I'll never let you go again.

Come with me now.

No.

We can't stay here much longer.

I still feel very weak.

I don't think I can walk far.

I'll help you.

Can't we wait just a little longer?

CLAUDE: I've already waited too long.

I should never have made that arrangement with Stokes.

But you did make it.

And I've regretted it ever since.

My life hasn't been the same without you.

We belong together.

And I'm going to take you with me now.

No, not yet.

Please?

It isn't that you're too weak to go with me.

You don't want to go.

You want to stay here.

Yes, it's true.

Why?

Because I know he'll come back.

CLAUDE: Barnabas?

Yes.

CLAUDE: Well, he means nothing to you.

He was kind and good to me.

Even though I was unable to communicate with him,

I could hear him when he spoke to me.

And the things he said.

What things? What did he say?

That he wanted to know me as I really am.

There is only one man who knows you

as you really are, Roxanne, and I am that man.

I love you and you love me.

I love him.

I love him

in a way that I didn't think was possible.

CLAUDE: You don't even know this man.

I feel as though I've known him for all time.

Yes, I believe you do feel that way.

Your mind belongs to no time or place.

His powers are unique.

But that doesn't mean I'm going to surrender you.

Oh, but you must.

I haven't changed the way I feel about you.

And you never will!

Don't you see?

It can never be the same for us.

Even Barnabas himself doesn't realize

how much he's change my life.

We're not staying here a minute longer, Roxanne.

You're coming with me.

Oh, no, I won't do it.

You are coming with me!

Look at me!

Don't do it to me, please.

Just keep looking at me.

We are going to be together, Roxanne.

And you are going to forget Barnabas Collins.

And tonight, this man, Claude North,

finally got Roxanne to speak.

I see.

He merely got her to speak.

And when he did, this woman just fell back and died?

Yes, that is correct.

Mr. Collins, the entire story is preposterous.

I know how it sounds.

Black magic, people returning from the dead,

I don't know how you can expect me to believe a word of it.

But it's true, Inspector.

I'm sorry, Mr. Collins.

As far as I'm concerned,

the search for Quentin Collins will go on.

I've not yet seen one shred of evidence

indicating that he did not k*ll Bruno Hess.

Well, the least--

And who knows how many of the other deaths

he may have been responsible for?

Please, let me take you over to the Loomis house.

If Roxanne is there, then you can question her.

I'm sure she will verify a very important part of my story.

Now surely you have nothing to lose by doing that.

Very well, but first let me call the station,

and then we'll go.

[dramatic music]

[suspenseful music]

[shoes crunching]

[door clicking]

[dramatic music]

Well, Mr. Collins, where is this strange

young woman you were telling me about?

He must have taken her away from here.

If she ever existed.

But she did exist!

Why should I lie to you about this?

Look around you.

Why do you think this equipment is here?

Julia Hoffman got it so that she could revive that girl.

Mr. Collins, I'm a simple police inspector.

I must, of necessity, deal with things that are real.

Things that are unreal I leave to the writers of fiction.

As far as I'm concerned, the only reality in this case

is the increasingly apparent guilt of Quentin Collins.

[dramatic music]

Quentin?

Hey, now don't be frightened.

I'm not frightened.

I know the truth, Quentin.

I was so wrong about you.

Can you ever forgive me?

I should be asking you the same question.

Quentin, what happened to us?

Why couldn't we trust each other?

I don't know.

I look back now and I see all the things

that I should have seen so clearly

when they were happening.

So do I.

Do you know that I actually believed

that you had k*lled Angelique and you were about to k*ll me?

And I didn't know until I found out that Roger k*lled her.

Roger?

Yes, that's how Carolyn and Elizabeth died.

They found out, and he knew.

My God.

Poor man, must have been insane.

MAGGIE: Quentin, at least you don't have to worry

that the police will blame you.

Somehow that's small consolation.

There's still the matter of Bruno.

Quentin, Quentin, we'll find a way.

We'll find a way to prove that you didn't do it.

I promise you that.

And when we do, I hope that we'll find a way

to start all over again.

If you want to.

If I want?

As far as I'm concerned, we're starting over right now.

Quentin, I love you very much.

I love you.

[serene music]

Oh, Quentin.

Quentin, I promise you it'll be different this time.

I promise you I can accept things now

I couldn't accept before.

What are you talking about?

Quentin, I wanted so much to please you.

I wanted to-- I wanted to recreate the impression

the first Mrs. Collins had made.

Maggie.

I wanted to emulate her, I wanted to be her for you.

And I stopped being myself.

I promise you, I won't do that again.

Quentin, I know now that there can never be

another woman you love as much as you loved Angelique.

As I loved Angelique?

Quentin, please, don't be angry.

Maggie.

I hated Angelique.

I hated the ground that she walked on.

Quentin, everything you--

I heard everything people said.

QUENTIN: Maggie, I hated everything she was,

she did, and believed in.

We never had one happy day together.

Quentin, I thought that--

You never heard me say that I loved her, did you?

Quentin, I thought it was your grief that--

My grief was a lie.

I was only pretending because it was easier.

Any good thing that you heard about that woman

was a result of a myth, a myth that she created

and nurtured every day that she was alive.

That's very true that she was very beautiful to look at.

But that's where the truth stopped.

Underneath that beautiful exterior was a very evil woman.

A woman that used and manipulated people.

A woman that was unfaithful.

And, oh, how she loved telling me that she was unfaithful.

She was a conniver and a very sadistic person,

and I hated her, Maggie.

I begged her for my freedom.

She laughed.

She said that I would never be free.

I was her prisoner.

She warned me that if I tried to get free,

she would cause the biggest scandal

that the family had ever known.

Oh, I hated her.

The night of the séance,

I didn't know whether I'd k*lled her or not.

The only thing I knew that--

I was just glad that she was dead.

But I was tormented

by a guilt feeling about her death.

I was convinced that life was all over.

And then I met you.

MAGGIE: Oh, Quentin.

And you were everything that I ever wanted in a woman.

Everything that she never was.

And then I knew that I could start living all over again.

Quentin, we'll start again.

Quentin, we will.

[door clicking]

Mr. Collins, I'm taking you in again.

MAGGIE: No.

And I can assure you that this time,

there'll be no escaping.

No, no.

[dramatic music]

[clock chiming]

Oh, Barnabas, well?

I've searched every inch of the east and west wings,

and there's not a trace of Julia anywhere.

Barnabas, we've got to find her.

She can prove that Quentin is innocent.

Do you think there's any possibility

that Hoffman might be dead?

Well, there is that possibility,

but I had the feeling from what Angelique conferred

that she's still alive, and the question is where.

What about that other girl, Roxanne?

I'm going to go and look for her now.

How do you know where to look for her?

Claude North.

He may have taken her to the Stokes house.

I'll begin there.

But what happens if we can't find either of them?

Let's not think about that now.

We must remember that

we have to clear Quentin by finding Julia.

Barnabas, wait.

I do want to say thank you... for everything.

You know that if Quentin is exonerated of this crime

that you're responsible.

[suspenseful music]

[dramatic music]

Oh, no.

Dead.

Where's Roxanne?

Is she dead, too?

[dramatic music]
