♪ Trees are nice as homes for mice ♪

MICE: Howdy!

♪ In trees we'll climb, or swing from a vine ♪

♪ Let's build a cool treehouse ♪

♪ A cat, dog, bunny and mouse ♪

♪ It's Arbor Day, come out and play ♪

♪ It's time to plant a tree ♪

♪ Though trees are tall, they start out small ♪

♪ As anyone can see! ♪

Wait a minute! That looks like a little plant!

Trees are plants!

See? they have roots, a stem, branches, leaves.

Some even have flowers.

Roots, stem, branches, leaves... amazing!

♪ Let's plant a tree, just like Daisy ♪

♪ In the woods or a grassy knoll ♪

♪ Just grab a pal, like my friend Hal ♪ Hi!

♪ And dig a little hole ♪ I'm on it!



♪ Hip, hip, hooray! It's Arbor Day! ♪

♪ Enjoy the gentle breeze! ♪

♪ We'll celebrate this special day ♪

♪ By planting, hugging and playing in... trees! ♪

with one of the critters that lives here,

So, what shall we do next to celebrate Arbor Day, g*ng?

Oh hi, tree, it's me, Hal!

I'll tell ya what we should do.

We should go climb my favoritist,

super-tall climbing tree.

You guys are gonna love it!

Sounds tree-a-riffic to me, Squeeks!

You see what I did there?

Ready, Daisy?

Almost.

Ready!

Whoa!

The tree's dancing! Whee!

And I'm dancing with a tree on Arbor Day!

And may I say you are quite a dandy dancer!

Whee!

(Wind gusting)

Never fear, young tree!

I'll protect you from the wind!

Back, wind!

(Shouting, grunting)

Huh...

Nature Cat, the sapling will be fine in the wind.

It's so small. Just making sure, Daisy!

(Distant crashing)

What in the woods was that?

I have no idea!

But it didn't sound too good to me!

We'd better investigate!

Right you are, Daisy!

We need to find out what made that sound!

Follow me!

Tally-ho!



(Sniffing)

I believe the sound came from this area.

Looking... looking...

(Whimpering distantly) Listen. What's that?

(Whimpering, crying)

It sounds like someone's crying.

Hey, nobody should cry on Arbor Day!

(Gasping) Someone is crying, look!

Ruthie! What's wrong?

Oh, Squeeks, it's--

Our tree!

(Wailing)

Our tree? What do you mean?

It fell down!

C'mon. I'll show you.



NATURE CAT: A fallen tree!

This must've been the sound we heard!

Oh, no!

What's the matter, Squeeks?

You guys, this is the tree I was telling you about!

My favoritist, super-tall climbing tree!

And our home!

(Wailing)

There, there little possum family...

That's the saddest thing I've ever heard!

(Crying)

And it's not just our home.

This tree has squirrel nests, and woodpecker holes,

and our friend the raccoon sleeps here during the day.

(Yawning) Just five more minutes, Mom?

Please?

And on Arbor Day, of all days!

Today is the day we celebrate trees--

oh, it's a travesty!

We've lived here our whole lives.

But that wind was just too strong!

Poor, poor tree.

We want to go home!

(Wailing)

Fear not, little ones!

This injustice will not be tolerated!

And I, Nature Cat, vow to right this wrong!

But what can we do? Their home fell down!

As much as it breaks my heart...

I guess we'll just have to find a new home.

Then that's exactly what we'll do!

Find you a new home!

Hooray!

Onward and yonward!

(Cheering)

Too tall!

Too short!

Too straight!

Too curvy!

(Creaking)

Too creaky!

(Squeaking) Too squeaky!

Too much!

Thank you all so much,

but I think the kids just really miss our old tree.

We do, we do!

We aren't exactly known for building our own homes!

We opossums prefer abandoned dens or holes in trees,

and once we find one that fits,

well, we get attached.

Ohh, I just wish, oh wish, oh wish, oh wish we could

put your tree back up.

Hal! You're a genius!

I am?

Hey, what do you know, I'm a genius!

Wait, that's a good thing, right?

Yes! I'm researching fallen trees,

and it certainly looks like

it might be possible to save this one!

We can actually save this tree? How?!

We need to see if the roots are damaged.

Hmm... looks like most of the roots are still in the soil.

These roots look perfect!

(Tapping)

No damage here! Piece of cake!

Oh, that's really good! I think we have a chance!

Hear ye, hear ye!

Let's celebrate Arbor Day by saving this tree!

And our home!

(Cheering)

Hooray for Arbor Day!

♪ A day for the trees, a day for the trees ♪

♪ It's a holiday all about the trees ♪

♪ It's Arbor Day! ♪

(Giggling)

Okay, first, we need to carefully dig out

some of the soil underneath the roots so they can

settle back into place.

Oh, digging? I got this!



Done!

Okay, the next step is...

to raise the tree!

I'm on it!

Hi, tree, it's me, Hal!

Would you mind, um, you know, standing up?

Oh, sorry! Would you mind standing up, please?

Pretty, pretty please?

A most valiant effort, Hal, but I've got this!

Nature Cat is here to save the day!

Tally-ho!

Okay! Quick stretches. Get the blood flowing.

All me! Here we go. Correct posture!

Lift with the legs, and... raising the tree... yes.

(Straining)

Yes, here it goes. Raising! Raising! Raising!

Yeah, that's not going anywhere.

(Straining)

Raising the tree! Yes!



Tally-ho!

No!

(Crashing) I'm okay!

I don't know.

Maybe it's just too difficult.

(Laughing) Never! I never give up!

Me too!

Me too too, as well!

And I got my family to help...

And they told some of their friends,

who told some of their friends,

who told some of their friends.

Three, two, one...

(Squeeks shouting)

When they heard about your home, Ruthie,

they all wanted to help.

(Shouting in joy)

Alright, everyone!



Ready, set, push!

(Grunting, straining)

It's rising, everyone! Keep pushing! Push!

(Straining)

Yes! Almost there! Come on, everyone! Push!

(Straining continuing)

Don't give up, bear!

Give it all you've got, fox!

That-- push!

(Shouting, gasping)

Yes, now hold it steady!

How are the roots?

Lookin' good on the roots, Dais!

Okay! Hal! Backfill the hole.

Squeeks! Get a team together to water it in!

Yes, ma'am! We're on it!



Birds! Secure these lines

and stabilize the tree!



NATURE CAT: The tree. It stands!

We did it!

I hereby officially declare this

the best Arbor Day ever!

Ruthie, you and the kids...

welcome home!

ALL: Hooray!

♪ We saved our home, no need to roam ♪

super-tall climbing tree!

Okay, now we're ready.

(Laughing)

Huh?

Hi there!

(Screaming)

Gracie! You made it! How are you?

Oh, it's just a friend of Squeeks.

Yes, well, right, apologize for the reac--

how goes it, young frog?

Ugh, don't call her a frog!

Aye-yiyi! Why not?

Because I'm a toad!

A thousand pardons.

But quite honestly, frog, toad, toad, frog,

what's the difference, right?

(Chuckling)

What's the difference?

I'll tell ya what's the difference!

♪ When you see a little buddy who has a bumpy body ♪

♪ Slowly hopping down the road ♪

♪ That's a toad ♪

♪ I'm a toad ♪

♪ There's another animal that kinda looks like me, you know ♪

♪ But let me make it clear ♪

♪ He's a frog ♪

♪ I'm a toad ♪

♪ Frogs are different than toads ♪

♪ This is how it goes ♪

♪ Frogs have longer legs ♪

♪ And they lay their eggs in bunches ♪

♪ Toads lay their eggs in a zigzaggy line! ♪

Hey, uhh, Mr. Frog?

Who, me? Yeah!

Come and help me out with this little number, would ya?

Okay?

Tell me something about yourself.

♪ My skin is wet ♪

♪ My skin is dry ♪

♪ I prefer to walk ♪ ♪ I can jump real high ♪

♪ Here's another thing that'll help you understand ♪

♪ I like to hang out in water ♪

♪ And I like to hang out on the land ♪

♪ Look at our feet, this is how it goes ♪

♪ Frogs' feet have webs ♪

♪ Toads' feet have toes! ♪

♪ And here's the truth! ♪

♪ If you kiss me, I will not turn into a prince! ♪

♪ We are both amphibians ♪

♪ Maybe a little vaudevillian ♪

♪ We started out as tadpoles ♪

♪ And Momma, would you look at us now! ♪

♪ Oh, yeah ♪

♪ Mistaken for each other ♪

♪ Though we have a different mother ♪

♪ So we both put on a show, to say that-- ♪

♪ I'm a frog ♪

♪ And I'm a toad! ♪

(Cheering)

(Ribbitting)

Duly noted, young toad.

And an absolutely marvellous musical number!

Did you rehearse that? I mean-- brava!

Gracie! I'm so excited for our play date today.

Me too. So--

(Yawning) Excited.

How about we all play together?

Leaf pile jump! Leaf pile jump!

Sounds...

(Yawning) Like a blast.

You okay, Gracie?

You seem kind of tired all of a sudden.

Nope, I'm good. Wide awake.

(Chuckling nervously)

Leaf pile ready!

One, two, three... jump!

(Snoring)

Gracie!

Oh! Huh? Are we having fun or what?

Gracie, are you sure you're feeling okay?

Well, the truth is, it's about that time

when toads need to hibernate for the winter.

Oh, hibernate! That's now.

Okay, wow.

I have no idea what that means.

Some animals, like toads and frogs, aren't able

to stay active during the winter months.

Yep, Daisy.

Food's very hard for us to find

and the air gets too cold.

That's the secret to winter coming: the cold!

Wink, wink!

We're not like you, we're not warm blooded.

We're cold blooded.

So we go into a very deep sleep in a place that's safe

from the cold and animals who might eat us.

But Gracie, if you're gonna sleep all winter,

when will I see you again?

In the spring, when the weather's warm, I'll wake up.

(Sighing) Spring is so far away, though!

I know.

But I really want to play with you today, Squeeks!

And I'm not that sleepy! See?

(Laughing weakly)

I really want to play with you too, Gracie,

but I think you've gotta listen to your body

and hibernate today.

But what about our play date?

I want that too, but we can't fight nature.

I can't stand to see two best friends so upset!

(Gasping)

What if we spend the day

helping you get ready to hibernate?

Yeah, we'd love to help you! Oh, definitely!

I'm in! Pick me, oh, pick me, pick me, pick me!

So? What do you think?

Uh, I don't really need any of this stuff.

Nonsense! Just get comfy!

Come on, snuggle in there.

Gracie?

Gracie, are you asleep yet?

How 'bout now?

Umm, okay, now?

Okay, how 'bout now?

Gracie, if you are asleep, snore... no times.

No. I really-- ooh--

don't need any of this to hibernate.

'Cause, you know, I live out here.

Guys, Gracie's right.

She doesn't need all this stuff.

She needs a place where she won't turn into a toad popsicle!

But of course!

Onward and yonward!



Ah-ha! Bears hibernate in caves.

So how about this little rocky

cave-like spot? Hmm?

If it's good enough for bears,

it's gotta be good enough for frogs.

(Whispering) Toads. Toads.

Hmm, I've never thought of a place like this.

I'll try it out.

(Grunting, groaning)

It's too hard.

(Wind gusting, shouting)

And when the temperature drops below freezing, so will I!

Understood.

I suppose bears are much furrier than fro...ads.

Did you just call me a "froad"?

Not on purpose, but yes.

Well, you're getting closer.

Onward and yonward!

Ooh! How about hibernating in a tree?

Never considered up a tree before.

Not bad. Kinda comfy.

So... quite the view.

(Sighing) I can see myself relaxing--

Ahh! Bird! Bird!

(Shouting in panic)

On second thought, I think I'm too exposed up here.

Ohh, and it will get too cold!

Don't worry, Gracie.

We'll find you the perfect hibernation location!

Ooh, that rhymed!

Here?

No, too small.

Well, how 'bout over here?

(Groaning in disgust) Too stinky.

Umm, here?

Too busy!



(Yawning)

We're gonna find you a spot, Gracie. Don't worry.

It's too bad we can't just build you a spot to hibernate in...

That's it, Hal! You're a genius!

Yes, I'm a genius, thanks!

Whatever that is...

A few years ago, I watched some of my friends

build their own hibernation spots in the ground.

They dug down far enough to protect themselves

from the freezing and to stay safe

from the hungry winter predators.

(Grunting in exertion)

Too tired...

(Yawning)

Fear not, Gracie!

We'll help you dig!

Ohh, digging! I'm goin' in!

How far down do we need to dig, young frog?

(Whispering) Toad. Toad?

The burrow has to be deep enough where the ground won't freeze.

If you can just loosen up the topsoil a little more,

that would be great.

Right-o, team!

Keep digging!

Halt!

So... what do you think?

Yep, this is perfect.

Oh, I'll take it from here, guys!

(Grunting)

Whoa, Gracie!

Dandy digging technique!

Unlike frogs, toads are good diggers.

Ohh, I'll say!

So... what do you think, Gracie?

Now this is the kind of burrow I was hoping for.

Is it deep enough to keep you from freezing?

And safe from scary predators?

Yes! It really is perfect.

Now I can hibernate.

(Cheering)

I'm gonna miss you, Gracie.

I'll miss you too, buddy.

(Yawning)

You comfy, Grace?
