if you think that was fun
watch this between the Lions is funded
in part by our ready to learn television
cooperative agreement from the US
Department of Education through the
Public Broadcasting Service and by the
Corporation for Public Broadcasting
I love is said that Clio I never get
tired of telling people about our
funders neither I can do it at least
once every day oh yeah why are cows
everywhere such strong supporters of
chick-fil-a perhaps it's because
chick-fil-a supports quality family
programming here on PBS

[Music]
remember that messy closet we've been
meaning to clean out you didn't I did
and now we could have that yard sale
okay lovie wants to know what's later
okay I'll see you later okay
oh I mean no these question it's when
you can make lots of money from putting
all your old junk on the yard and
putting up a sign that's right here that
says now does this look like a yard to
you no a yard is outside the house oh I
remember this oh this used to hang over
our kitchen table can I see it it's got
the gravy stains to prove it oh yes I
remember those long candlelit dinners
just clio myself and the sleeping gypsy
sleeping gypsy that's the name of the
painting the sleeping gypsy and it was
painted by honoré Rousseau in 1897
look at that lion cool name
I like the striped coat it's like a
rainbow but everything else is so dark
hmm
lovey says the painting makes her feel
sleepy and makes me feel kind of spooky
like like something weird is about to
happen
it's a spooky picture right mom oh no it
isn't it's sleepy and quiet right mom
actually you're both right yes we both
be right yeah because people can get
different feelings from the same
painting oh okay well here's what I'm
feeling then this painting is like way
too cool to be getting rid of your right
Lionel hey maybe I should go through
that box and see if there's anything
else we want to keep yes and maybe you
should do that before we have the yard
sale not yet thank you
maybe I should go to that box on the
roof huh that's sleeping gypsy has a
really cool guitar actually it's called
a lute but it's like a guitar he's going
to wake up soon and have a tea party
with the lion and play a tea party so
lovey thinks the picture of the lion and
the sleeping gypsy is at the beginning
of a story well that's what love thinks
it's the beginning of a story so what's
the middle in the end what happens next
Oh what happens buddy we're - oh sure
love he and I will tell you the story of
the sleeping gypsy once upon a time
there was a gypsy sleeping outside
it was dark there were lots of stars a
lion woke up a Judith let's have a tea
party so they drank tea from her jar and
and the Gypsy played the lute which is
like a guitar and they sang the end well
that's a very good story lovey yeah if
you think the sleeping gypsy pictures in
the beginning of a story that is what
you don't think it's at the beginning of
a story oh I think it's in the middle of
the story really hmm
in the middle mm-hm well then what's the
beginning and the end beginning and the
end
oh let's see yeah ooh getting anything
um I've got to get a drink of water and
then I'll be back with the greatest
beginning and ending you ever heard he's
stalling for time isn't he mama hmm
learned it from his father all righty
let's see what we're going to keep and
what goes in the yardsale an old jar
ah that sense I knows it well
yeah Clio used to keep her perfume in
this jar the musky scent of steak tartar
hmm she was wearing it the first night
we hunted together hmm well this is
definitely a keeper yeah all right hey
it's my old buddy the barking shark yeah
yeah but Cleo never liked it hmm yard

gypsy far away set off an alarm pardon

the sleeping gypsy is at the end of a
story would you like to hear yeah once
upon a time there was a lion and a gypsy
who were on their way to a tea party at
a faraway far I heard they were so late
they didn't have time to stop and help a
man on a cliff Oh was it cliffhanger yep
the Gypsy and the lion went speeding in
a car and came upon a charming farm
before they had gone far the party must
be here they said and found a place to
park they waited near the large red barn
until it grew quite dark out came the
moon and sparkling stars they marveled
at the sight a Skylark started singing
making music in the night
let's party said the lion as he drank
tea from a jar the gypsy played the lute
which looks a lot like a guitar the lion
dance the Charleston and did cartwheels
crossed the floor
the Gypsy marched around the yard and
played the loot some more but as the
yard grew darker the Lark sang a slower
tune and of a gypsy soon fell fast
asleep beneath the Harvest Moon
the end story mom yeah way cool
thanks cups Oh Cleo knitted me this
scarf and knitted and knitted and
knitted and Wow
