I'll make a pledge in the amount of $40 or more and we'll reserve a Sesame Street growth chart just for you give us
a call now thanks I think that one of the things
that PBS performers and producers really offer to the viewing public is role
modeling and not just for kids but for the adults as well um for
example um TV Guide recently said that my Rel relationship with the puppets
role modeled tough love now I believe that it's a kid's job to be really
spunky and push the envelope and it's a parents job to be really strong and
resist and between that push and that resistance lies the truth of what that
child should be able to

she gives me $25 no how would you believe $5 mm-m a
quar all right she tells me a story a story cool we can do that a long story
deal once upon a time there was a little girl they called little red it okay okay
okay would you believe she had two ugly step sisters it uh Seven Dwarves her it
settle in Lamb Chop have I got a story for you I have a wonderful story and I tell
it well the musicians of gremin is the tale I'm going to tell it begins on the
road to the town of greman in a country far far away with a sad and tired old
broken down Horse let's hear what he has to say shall we I've spent all of my
life on a farm and of course when there was work to be done I work like a horse
but the older I got the harder it became I still did my best but it wasn't the
same so the farmer said if I wanted to stay he'd no longer pay for my meal of P
so I ran away you should know that the horse had
always had a secret ambition to move to bremond and become a musician and as he
walked along he sang a little song la la la la
a then by the side of the road like a bump on a log s a very unhappy grayhair
dog and the horse could tell that he was feeling sad so he asked the dog why he
felt so bad and the dog said as a p i was strong and I love to play but
there's the years when long my hair became gray now I'm old and I'm tired too old for Jason stick and I've old
dogs can't be taught new tricks so my said I'll find somebody new I am tired
of you your time here is true he said
to and the horse replied I am on my way to Breman you can join me if you please
why not come along and check out all the possibilities if you're ready for adventure if you're willing to explore
and come with me and together we'll see what the future has in
and with that the dog got up off the log what the horse had said was true he would go to r with his newb friend and
become a musician too but on the way they met someone new was it you no Then
Who ah that must be my cue every day on
the job I would dance and I'd beg with all that jumping around I injured my leg
and I'm that to report an organ Grinder's chimp is no use at all if the
chimp has a limp so my owner said you have gotten too slow find another show
you're too old and so take your cup and
go then the horse and the dog looked at him and said that they knew something he
could do instead we are on our way the G you can
join us if you please why not come along and check out all the possibilities if
you're ready for adventure if you're willing to explore then come with me and together we'll see what the future has
in store I think that what this group needs is a little lamb I can play the part
since that is what I am I'll take the trip to grin and try something new but
I'll only go if the ask me
to we are on our way to you can join us if youe why not come along and check out
all the possibilities if you're ready for adventure if you're willing to explore then come with me and together
we'll see what the future has in as they walked along the road they
thought of all that they could be the spice of life has always been variety an astronaut a doctor a fireman
a writer a teacher a cowboy a singer a fighter as a day grew late and the sky
grew dark they heard the hoot of a wise old owl and after walking all day
without a bite to eat they heard their stomach start to growl and ahead they saw a light in a window burning bright
and they went to see if they could find some food but the voices from within the house all sounded loud and rude I steal
what I want and then I steal a little more I'm a ruthless kind of robber who is rotten to the cor if you come into
this den of Thieves a crook is all you'll meet I even stole the food that I'm about to eat meanwhile outside the
house our group had a plan to stop their stomachs from growling on the count of three they took a deep breath and they
all started howling [Music]
and the robber inside was overcome with fear he was frightened by the sounds
that he began to hear he thought the woods were haunted so he ran away and he
never returned to this very
day then our band of four entered through the door and sat down to a table
full of meats and cakes and fruit and when the meal was through what they chose to do was us to open up and look
inside the robers bags of loot each of the bags was fat and
swollen full of musical instruments the thief had stolen the First Act had the
String family there were guitars and banjos and violas within and a base and
a Jello but I pick the violin the second and Sack had the
woodwind family there were Piccolo and obos and a flute and a bassoon but I
chose the clarinet to play my
tune the third sack had the Brass family there were French horns and cornets a
tuba and trumbone but I took the trumpet and played it alone
the fourth sack was full of percussion instruments there were symbols and
bungos and castets and Tony but I thought a star drum was just the right
size for me and when the morning came with their
instruments in hand they continued on to Breman as originally plann and when they
got to town they decided to C practice but before they could even try they met
up with a theater owner who look like he wanted to
cry here in Breman I own the concert hall but things
aren't going very well at all the audience is
waiting for the orchestra to play but a rotten Thief has taken all the instruments away I have really in the
jam I don't know what to do and with nowhere else to turn I am turning to you
and since they' never practiced they wondered whether the audience would like
it when they played together then the dog and the chimp and the lamb and the horse took their placees center stage
and played beautifully of
course when the a show was over the crowd cheered in the theater owner said things are better than I feared and the
audience is happy which is always a plus and it seems you found the instruments the robber took from us so our group of
four reluctantly gave back the stolen goods and told the theater owner that the rest were in the woods they knew
that they would never get to play another show and wandered out into the street not knowing where to go but after
all they've been through they last could understand that it's all right if things don't always turn out like you
plan sure they learned if you keep on trying there's nothing you can't get so
they started down another road into everyone they met they sang they
sang we are on our way to somewhere you can join us if you please why not come
along and check out all the possibilities if you're ready for adventure if you're willing to explore
then come with me and together we'll see what [Applause] [Music]
F so Lambchop did you get anything out of that story oh yes oh yes I learned
that there were so many possibilities that I could play any instrument any
instrument I want oh yes you got it yeah I mean if I want to play the drums it
doesn't mean that I have to copy you that's right no from now on I'm
going to play the drums cuz I want a copy
Ringo what' I say oh Junior tells me that Lamb Chop
still wants to play the drums so I have made her a drum her own size here's how
I did it I started with some uncooked macaroni and I put it into a tuna can
that I very carefully opened next I cut the neck this is the neck off a
balloon there we go and then I stretched the balloon to make it a little
thinner put the tunic can on the other side of a board so I'd have something to push against and
now I've made a drum head Junior quick put tape around to hold my Bloon drum
head in place very good and now I got a drum
head I turn it over and I put the popsicle stick on the back would you
tape that in place too now I made a number of these cuz they were fun to make see I decorated each one
differently this is decorated with candy and this with paper clips and they make a great sound you can drum with your
fingers or you can drum with a stick or you can use it as a
rattle so what does lamp chop think of a new drum what does lamp chop think of her new drum it's a
[Music]
hit you and me together I hope it never
ends you can't be mine but we could still be
friends forever the fun will never
end you can't be mine but we could still
be friends I hope that we'll still be
friends I know that will still be we will
still be [Music]
