01x12 - Generosity - Rocking-Horse Land/Old Man Rabbit's Thanksgiving Dinner/The Gift of the Magi

Post by bunniefuu »

Deep in my heart where we

can speak to me all the day

long.

The adventure of virginity,

adventure of truth. The free love of

knowing that it's up to you.

Watch out, Gateway coming

through.

Put me out.

Sorry about that. Sock. Are

you OK? Sure. But

what are you doing with all these cans

anyway? Well, we're collecting canned

goods to donate to a shelter for the

homeless.

I could have sworn I had one more can of

Pinto beans.

My pintos. Thanks. Sorry,

what are you trying to do? Suffocate me?

The Hey, what you up to?

Wow, you 2 have really been working.

What do you do when you get them all

loaded? Well, we just carry them down to

the shelter and leave them there, I

guess.

It seems ashamed to do all this work and

nobody knows we did it.

Nice if they knew who to thank for all

this stuff. Hey, we could have a

ceremony, make an official presentation.

I can see it all now. We could set up

bleachers and sell hot dogs. The school

band could play. I could make a speech.

Why, yo? Well,

I happen to have a beautiful speaking

voice. I don't think we should have a

ceremony, a

picnic. That's the way to go with

games and sing alongs. Oh, and a

big banner that says Annie and Zacks can

goods day. You mean Zach and Annie's,

don't you? I don't think so.

Hi kids, It's good to see the two of you

working so hard to help others. Yes,

it's very generous.

Generous. Yeah. Miss Generosity

here wants her name listed first on the

banner banner.

Well, my name comes first in the

alphabet. Yeah, but the whole project was

my idea in the first place. In my

book, generosity is not just a giving

away of valuables. There's also a

generosity of spirit between friends.

I remember a story called Rocking Horse

Land in which a young Prince named Freddy

Lynn learned that very lesson.

On the morning of his 5th birthday,

Prince Frederick woke up both eyes at

once. Happy birthday

to me.

Fredlin was just as excited as any child

on his birthday, but being a Prince, he

had much higher expectations.

From my fairy godmother.

Is that all?

What's this? Break me and I turn into

something else?

Friedland was delighted. If there was one

thing more gratifying than playing with

the Tory, it is breaking it.

But Fredlin soon grew discontented with

his marvellous toy as soon as it

changed from one thing to another.

He decided he wanted the previous thing

back again.

When the toy became a balloon and floated

out the window, Fredlin was quite put out

with his fairy godmother for sending him

such a frustrating toy.

Oh my beautiful, my lovely.

Oh my beauty, into the fray that no

one escape. Faster, faster.

Up, up and over. Haha,

all that day, Fredlin wrote his

marvelous charger against the enemy.

That night, weary of so much

glory, he was lifted from the saddle and

carried off to bed.

In his sleep, the Prince still heard the

battle cry and rode his great steed to

victory.

Fredlin was amazed the rocking horse

had moved.

You're crying, but why?

I weep because I am a prisoner. Open the

window, master, and let me go. Let

you go, but you belong

to me. I'll never let you go.

But my brother's called to me from

rocking horse land and my Marin falls,

Winnie, to me. Marshland.

Is there really such a place? Oh please,

master, let me go tonight and I will

return tomorrow. How can I be sure you'll

come back? In my main you will

find a single white hair

b*llet and wrap it around your finger.

Will this hurt? No.

Wrap it around your finger as long as it

is there. I must go. A return at your

bidding in the morning. Simply Call

My Name Roland, and I shall come back to

you now. Ferdinand had never

given away anything in his life. If

he loved something, he held it close and

squeezed it hard. But as he gazed

into Roland's eyes, Fredlin knew that he

couldn't be happy unless the horse was

happy too. Go then,

Roland, for I love you, but

return when it is day.

All that night and Fredlin dreamed of his

beautiful horse, happy at last in

rocking horse land.

Roland. Roland. Come back, Roland.

Good morning. You came back

and are you happy now, sweet

Prince? Oh kind master.

Prince Frederick, are you awake?

Every night Fredlin set his beloved

Roland free, and every morning the

rocking horse returned and a whole

year went by.

Till one morning, Fredlin woke up to find

he was 6.

And this year his father the king gave

him. A real horse,

yes.

For my beauty, run like the wind.

They shall not escape us all

that day and every day thereafter.

Fredlin rode his new stallion and

quite forgot Roland.

I.

Oh dear Prince and kind master.

My heart breaks for a sight of my native

land. May I not visit there tonight?

The young Prince was full of shame at

having forgotten his old friend.

They're there, of course. I'll let you

go. Kind

master.

Goodbye, brave Roland. Go

and be happy in your native land.

I think I see what you mean.

Friends are generous to each other.

OK, Zach, your name can be first on the

banner. Thanks, but I figured out how we

can both be first look.

Zach, it's perfect. Now they can read

your name first. Or mine. It works either

way, yeah. Plus they'll know for sure who

donated all the cans. I used all the

creamed corn in your name. I hope that's

OK. I hate creamed corn. It's

fine. It looks

great. Hey, look, everybody. I

spelled my name too. Yeah, that's

great. Sock, there's only one

problem. Yeah. And what's

that? That's impossible.

Well, it's wonderful to see you 2 working

so hard. In the spirit of generosity,

it reminds me of another story, the

story of old Mr. Rabbit.

It was a cold, frosty day, the beginning

of a hard winter, but old Mr. Rabbit

didn't care.

He had found so much food on his morning

constitutional that he was more than

prepared for the cold weather to come.

Old Mr. Rabbit decided to sit outside a

while and eat a ripe, juicy turnip,

thinking all the while what a mighty fine

old rabbit he was, and so very clever

too.

Morning, Billy Chipmunk. Why are you

running so fast? Because

I'm cold and I'm hungry and it's going to

be a hard winter and there are no apples

to be found.

Morning Molly. Mouse Shay. You look a

little sad.

Oh, I've been looking and looking for an

ear of corn to see me through the winter,

but the corn is all harvested and it's

going to be such a hard winter.

Morning, Tommy Chickadee can't talk.

Cold, hungry. No crumbs, no berries. Hard

winter. Coming.

Old Mr. Rabbit had an idea. It was a very

funny idea, different from any idea he

had ever had in his whole life.

Oh my goodness gracious.

Oh, have you ever seen?

All right.

This staples I've had in years, but you

should try the corn.

When it won't be so hard this year with

all this good food inside me, Oh, I

just wish I knew who to thank.

Oh, Mr. Rabbit knew who had given the

feast, and seeing his friends happy made

him feel warmer and fuller inside than

any number of ripe, juicy turnips.

We get it, Aurora. It's the giving that's

important, not getting the credit for it,

right?

I thought it meant that if you're going

to give people something yucky like

turnips, Are you sure they don't know who

you are?

I thought we want to brag or anything.

Not really.

We're just proud we're giving people

something they can really use.

Yeah, that's the kind of gift that really

makes you feel good. The important kind.

The kind. And it's really worth giving.

You have every right to be proud, you've

worked very hard, and your gift will do a

lot of good. Seems to me I was

reading a story just the other day about

a completely different type of gift, a

rather foolish 1.

I remember that one. Hang on play though.

Yes, here it is. Thank you, Ari.

The Gift of the Magi by oh, Henry

$1.87.

That was all she had.

And $0.60 of it was in pennies.

Penny saved one and two at a time by

convincing the butcher and the grocer to

take a little less.

$1.87 and

the next

day was Christmas.

May I help you? No,

no thank you.

Only $1.87 tobuy a Christmas

present for Jim. What was she to do?

May I help you?

Do you Do you buy hair?

Well, it says so in the window, doesn'tit?

How How much can you give me for mine?

$20Now

Are you sure you want to sell it? Dear

mote your husband bind, Do it quick and

give me the money.

Now, may I help you?

Yes, please may I see that platinum

watch fob? My husband Jim has the

handsomest watch. It's his pride and joy

passed down from his father and his

grandfather before that. It might have

been made just for Jim. It will look

splendid. Hanging from his watch pocket.

Is the chain platinum as well? Of

course, Madame. How much is it?

$21

I'll take it. And could you please

wrap it?

Well, if Jim doesn't k*ll me before he

takes a second look, he'll say I look

like a Coney Island chorus girl.

But what could I do with $1.87?

,

StellaI'm home. Please,

please let him think I'm still pretty.

Merry Chris. His eyes were fixed on Della

with an expression she could not read. It

was not anger, nor surprise,

nor horror. Jim

darling, don't look at me that way. I

had my hair cut off and sold it because I

couldn't live through Christmas without

giving you a present.

You've cut off your hair, cut it off

and sold it.

You say you sold your

hair. Oh, now, Jim, you're

starting to scare me a little. I only did

it for you because it's Christmas.

Don't. Don't you like me just as well

without it? Of course I do.

There's nothing you could do that would

make me love you any less. It's just

that, well, open

your present and you'll see why I'm

surprised.

Why Jim There there?

It's all right. Your hair grows back

fast. You said so yourself.

You haven't opened your present yet. Why

so I haven't.

Isn't it a dandy gym? Put it on your

watch right now. I want to see how it

looks.

I don't have the watch, Dell.

I sold it to buy your

Combs. This may seem like a

story of two somewhat foolish people,

but let me tell you, their gifts

came from their hearts of all who

give and receive gifts. Such as they

are wisest everywhere,

they are the wisest.

They are the Magi.

Gosh, they give away what they love the

most just so they could give something to

each other. But at the end, they were

happy. I guess their joy really did come

from giving the gifts. That's right,

Zach. We better get started if we're

going to get all these to the shelter

before dark. I'm all set.

What about your brother?Picnic or your

banner? Those are kind of silly ideas

anyway, yeah, why does anybody need to

know who gave him this stuff? What counts

is the giving, and the two of you can

count your day well spent. The

writer George Eliot so eloquently put it.

If you sit down at set of sun and count

the acts that you have done and counting,

find oneself denying deed one

word that eased the heart of him who

heard one glance, most kind

that fell like sunshine where it went,

then you may count that day when

spent.

Yeah. There

is no measuring.

A human. It's wider

than.

You should deeper than

the dark, take away the stars

and the same sun.

The hearts defines room

to give.
