[Kellner] A mystery weapon
they can point anywhere in the world

that can k*ll 100,000 people
without warning.

[Scorpia]
This weapon is called Invisible Sword.

Hello?

We need to see Mrs. Rothman.

Maybe when she's finished with Consanto
she will see you.

Consanto.

[Kyra]
It's a ship.

[Tom]
Pretty strong on the old security.

[Julia]
Alan wants it to look Kovacic.

[Alan]
Where are we?

[Mrs. Jones] An empty office
just outside Hackney Downs.

The British government
does not negotiate with t*rrorists.

There's a note.

Don't touch it!

Agent down.

[Kyra]
Alex, you are quick and brave,

but none of that matters against
a nerve toxin or a virus,

or whatever it is.

[door closes]

I have a message for you.

Everything you want to know about Scorpia,
about your past,

is waiting for you.

[line ringing]

Come on. Come on.

He's not answering, Tom.
He's not answering!

-Kyra, we've got to go.
-He could be drowning down there!

Any minute this place
will be crawling with police.

And we can't be here when they arrive.

Come on, Kyra! Come on!

[theme song playing]

Where are we?

Welcome to Malagosto.

Why did you k*ll Kovacic?

You'd paid him off.

So, whatever you wanted from him,
you already got it.

That looks like you made a deal with him,
and then, k*lled him anyway.

What did he make for you?

Look, I only came with you

because you said you'd tell me
what I wanted to know.

If you're gonna just ignore me,
you might as well just take me back.

You said I'd get answers.

That's for Mrs. Rothman to decide.

You sleep here.

Where's Julia Rothman?

Mrs. Rothman will see you
when she chooses.

Not before.

[Alex sighs]

Tom, they're bringing out bodies.

It's okay. Just stay calm.
It's fine. It's gonna be okay.

-It's not okay. It's not fine.
-Come on, Kyra!

You just have to trust him, okay?
We have to.

[phone ringing]

It's Alex!

Alex, are you okay?

Kyra? Can you hear me?

Yeah. We can hear you.
Are you okay?

Yeah, yeah. I'm fine. I'm okay.

What happened?
We saw the ship blow up.

We thought you were inside.

[Alex's voice breaking up on phone]

Mate, you're breaking up.

[Alex's voice breaking up on phone]

[Kyra] Alex, we can't hear you.
You're breaking up.

Where are you?

[Alex] I'm in a place called-- [distorted]

It's a military... from the... mine.

[Kyra] There's something wrong
with the signal.

[Tom] Alex, tell us where you are.
We're coming to get you!

Do you want me to k*ll them?

Not yet.

[computer error sound]

No. No.

No, no, no, no, no, no!

[beeping]

I thought this place
was supposed to be secure.

-How did they access your computers?
-They didn't.

When the USB drive was intercepted,

your forensic team
checked the file structure,

the data integrity,
every detail of the software.

But they assumed the drive
was just a drive.

It's not. It's a custom job.

This was hidden in a tiny,
separate registry in a dedicated EPROM.

That's like a secret compartment.
All it does is present this message,

and a link to an untraceable
encrypted server.

Why?

It's an open channel.

It means, they don't just want to
send messages. They want a conversation.

Sorry, I thought that was obvious.

[Smithers]
I've isolated this computer

and its I/O feed
from our systems entirely.

Go ahead.

[Scorpia]
You broke faith.

Identify yourself.

We are Scorpia.

Our instructions were clear.
You broke faith.

We made a mistake.

And we lost an agent because of it.

I'd ask you not to escalate the situation.

They can't escalate the situation.
Because they're bluffing.

[Scorpia]
You don't believe the threat is real?

Honestly? No. Why should I?

Tell us more about
this mysterious weapon of yours

and perhaps you'll convince me.

[Julia]
We will tell you nothing.

[Scorpia] We will show you. Today
at 1 p.m. We will deploy Invisible Sword.

There's no need for that.

[Scorpia] The target will be
the British Reserve Football Team.

There is no need for that.
We do believe you.

[Julia]
Every member of the team will die.

And there is nothing you can do
to prevent it.

These are the consequences
of which you were warned.

That was unnecessary.

And avoidable.

If we don't show our resolve
to these people, we look weak.

We are weak. We know nothing.
We have no intel.

This was our chance
to keep them talking,

see what we could learn,
you've closed that down.

I'll brief Downing Street.
I suggest you find a solution quickly.

Where are the reserve team
right now?

A stadium in Wales.
On the pitch, warming up for a friendly.

And what time does the match end?

One p.m.

Two and a half hours.
Planning and extraction. Go.

[distant clang]

[sound in distance]

[woman in distance]
Ha!

Ha!

Hi.

[in French] Good morning.
I don't think we've met.

Sorry?

[in English]
Oh, you're English. What a shame.

I was hoping I could practice
my French on you.

What is this place?

A Cold w*r listening post.
Decommissioned now of course.

Well, partly decommissioned.

I'm Syl.

Alex. Did they bring you here too?

Are you trapped?

Or are you one of them?

One of whom?

I think you know.

If you only think,
then it's not my job to tell you.

Mrs. Rothman will see you now.

What if he's trapped somewhere?

Kyra, we need to find him.

What do you think I'm trying to do?

Yeah? How?

I figure any lab as private as Consanto
is going to have CCTV security.

And that would be
run off its own servers, right?

Yeah? I mean, sure, that's how I'd do it.

So, I found the servers.
If we could see the footage,

we could see exactly
what happened to Alex.

But it is seriously firewalled.
I'm getting nowhere.

Woah.
Kyra, you need to see this.

Um, Dr. Kovacic.
The, uh, scientist diamond guy.

Looks like he died.

This could actually help us.

Kovacic was in charge.
But he didn't live on the boat, he--

He has an apartment here in Valletta.

Want to bet that he has a computer there
that's linked to the lab systems?

Sorry, are you suggesting
that we break into a dead man's house?

Not like he's going to be there.

Okay, no. No, no.
Kyra, I think it's time we call Jack.

And tell her what?
Alex is gone, and we don't know where?

No, I'm just saying--

That we're out of our depth?

Yes! Yes, obviously!
Don't you think? Just a little bit?

Alex needs our help.
And we are right here.

Jack's in London, there's nothing
she can do except worry.

But let me get at Kovacic's computer

and maybe we can find out
what actually happened to him.

And then we call Jack, okay?

[Smithers]
The stadium seats about 30,000,

but it's not the biggest match
in the world.

Midweek friendly, about 2,000 spectators.

Contained area.

Chemical attack, a nerve agent,
or just a b*mb.

That would put the crowd
more at risk than the players.

Do you think they care?

There's something
about the threat that was so specific.

You're assuming they're telling us
the truth.

Call it an educated guess.

I've got a helicopter standing by
to take us there.

Local plainclothes are inbound.

If we need to evacuate,
there's protocol for that.

Why warn us? Why say one p.m.,
give us time to react?

I know. I don't like that either.

The match has just kicked off.

Well, Scorpia said they'd show us.

We have players and supporters
all in a goldfish bowl.

We need to change that.

[Julia]
Good morning, Alex.

Mrs. Rothman.

Julia, please. You make me sound so old.

You can leave us, Nile.

Have a seat.

So, why are you here, Alex?

You tell me. You're the one
who had me brought here.

[Julia]
But that's not entirely true, is it?

You've been looking for us
for a long time now.

Searching us out.

You've traveled thousands of miles
to be here.

So, the truth now. Why?

To finish you.

To put an end to Scorpia.

Is that really
what you've been telling yourself?

You're here because you don't understand,

and you wish you did.

You're here because there are parts
of the puzzle that are missing,

and you can't find them.

You're here because you want answers.

It's extraordinary.

What?

You look so much like your father.

What do you know about my father?

Everything.

I don't believe you.

[Julia] You should.
Because your father was one of us.

Under 90 minutes.

-[Jones] We have a plan for extraction.
-Let's have it.

Well, tactically speaking,
the location is bad for us.

The stadium itself is a contained target,
and the main road out

runs for nearly a mile
before we can start electing a route.

There are smaller roads that we can use.

We break up the team,

Suddenly one target becomes many,
like a starburst.

-Good.
-No.

Put them in cars and
scatter them in all different directions

so they can be picked off one by one?

We could airlift them.

It's faster, but it increases
the target spectrum

to include surface-to-air missiles
and those could come from anywhere.

No.

You have a better idea?

[Kellner]
Very much so.

There's a military base
southwest of the stadium.

If you could bring that up, please.

That's what we use.

We bring in the army,

we secure the road,
close down the airspace,

and we take the team
straight back there to the base.

Within minutes they'll have
an infantry battalion

standing guard over them.

And I'd like to see
a t*rror1st group deal with that.

How do you get them there?

An armored bus.

Bulletproof glass,
IED shielding underneath,

hardened against RPGs
and m*ssile attacks.

Short of a tank,
it's the safest vehicle on the planet.

You're also putting
all of our eggs into one basket.

You've just lost an agent,

so naturally,
you're second-guessing everything.

You are giving Scorpia a single target.
You are making it easier for them.

This is a military operation now.
We expect full cooperation.

I want you both there.

[Kyra]
Okay, this is the street.

[Tom]
What number is it?

[Kyra]
Uh, 84B.

Yes. This is it.

Now, how do we get in?

What's Maltese for "pizza"?

"Pizza."

[ringing]

[operator answers]

Pizza.

[lock buzzes]

[Kyra whispers]
Yes!

[knock on door]

Starting to understand the two divorces.

So, uh, do you have to guess
his password or something?

No.

Well, how does it work, then?

Slowly, if you keep talking.

Okay.

[helicopter flying]

I don't like the approach. We're exposed.

I know. But they're exposed in there too.

We've got 28 minutes.

[reporter] He was an officer
in the elite Parachute Regiment.

A decorated veteran
of Iraq and Afghanistan.

But today John Rider
was sentenced to two years in prison

for manslaughter.

I thought he was a pretty decent guy.
Been in the army and all that.

But, uh, that night he'd had
too much to drink,

got into a fight.

[reporter]
Was he armed?

[man]
No, he didn't need to be.

Couple of punches and that was it.
The other bloke didn't stand a chance.

[Julia] The other man started it.
But your father k*lled him.

The judge was lenient
on account of his w*r record,

but he was still ruined.
He was dishonorably discharged.

Stripped of his rank, his medals.

I've never seen this.

Ian never said anything.

Well, your uncle worked
for the Department, so...

You can understand
why they would keep it from you.

None of his friends supported him.
And the army turned its back.

Even your uncle walked away.

And I think that was
what hit John the hardest.

His own brother.

So, he came to you?

We went to him.
We believed in him.

We recognized his skills.

He became a very close friend of mine.

He was the best agent we ever had.

We're not your enemies, Alex.
We never have been.

I've got the lab CCTV files.
Everything from the past three days.

Okay, show me.

Maybe they got damaged in the expl*si*n?

No, these were corrupted
before the expl*si*n.

And this wasn't Alex.

-[siren in distance]
-Someone else wiped the feed?

Kyra, I think a neighbour
called the police on us. We gotta go.

Now! Now!

Come on! Move!

Go, go, go! Go! Go!

[siren]

Tom! This way!

See? Told you we can do spy stuff too!

[siren wailing]

Twenty minutes.

Copy. The bus is here.

Road is closed and swept.
Unit commander says they're ready.

Stewards are prepped and standing by.

Get them out of there.

So, my father was a k*ller?

He was a k*ller before he joined us, Alex.

But he k*lled for you?

Yes. That's why we paid him.

You could have faked this.

The footage, the file.
All of this could be lies.

What would be the point?
Why would I bother lying to you?

Because that's what Scorpia does.

No. That's what the Department does.

They knew all of this, the whole time.
And they just used you.

To save lives! What does Scorpia do?

We want change.

I didn't want to have to show you these.

They may be painful for you.

But you'll recognize his handwriting,
I think.

Your father wrote to me many times.

To say thank you for what we did for him.

And to say how he felt about me...

What's going on? Wait. What's going on?

You're kidding me!

-2-1.
-We gotta get back in goal!

-Oh, my days.
-What do we do if he doesn't?

-Who's this guy? Who's that?
-What's up?

What's going on?
What's happening?

Hey, what's happening?
Who are you?

My name's Mrs. Jones, Security Services.

We have a situation
and I need you to cooperate.

-What's that?
-We'll explain later.

Leave all your belongings here
and come with me now.

Move out. Now! Quickly.

Come on. Let's move. Go. Quick.

Quickly.

Eleven minutes.

You should take the car behind.

I thought this was as safe as a tank?

I'm done underestimating Scorpia.
Take the car.

We have a short drive
through the countryside

and then we'll explain what's going on.

Let's move.

Control, Unit One, we're mobile.

Unit One, Control. Copy that. Good luck.

Don't be ashamed of him, Alex.

John never changed who he was.
He only changed the people he worked for.

Why did you bring me here?

You know why. I want you to join Scorpia.

And why would I do that?

Because you know the world
isn't about black and white.

Things don't work that way.

All we really have
are the people we trust.

And we trust you, Alex.
We want you.

Now, I have to make some calls, so...

Take some time. Think about it.

This could be your home.

It's good progress. Not far now.

[Crawley]
Area looks clear.

What about over head?

Satellite's clear. Airspace is clear.

We have good visual.
No heat signatures on the ground.

Nothing.

They chose extraction?

Armored convoy.

[chuckles] How predictable.

You have something else for me, Nile?

The Department are with them.

Perfect.

And it's happening. Now.

[heart beating slowly]

[Jones]
Control, Unit One, we're under attack!

Stop the vehicle!

[Jones]
They're dead. They're all dead.

[Blunt]
Nobody else?

[Jones] No one else.
Just the team. Just like they said.

You still think they're bluffing?

This-- This isn't possible.

This is Scorpia. They don't bluff.
They don't play games.

I want options.

We gave you options.
You overruled them.

Now 11 more people are dead.
I expect you'll want to inform the PM.

Well, this is a new low.

Just keep quiet. Tell them nothing.

I forget you're used to getting arrested
in foreign countries, right?

How's your, uh, "soup injury"?
Is it still--

Don't you start.
Had enough of that from Alex.

I was only asking 'cause, you know...

No. I don't know.

'Cause he likes you.
Because he really cares about you.

In the same way that...

you care about him.

Someone wishes to talk to you.

Your phone kept ringing and ringing,

and my sergeant
made the mistake of answering.

So, now, you have a lawyer.

Thank you, officer.

Would you like some privacy
to discuss this?

That won't be necessary.
My clients won't be staying long.

Your clients are under arrest
for breaking and entering.

Did anyone actually see them breaking in?

It's my understanding
that they were arrested on the street.

And I suppose that
when my clients were arrested,

they were read their rights in English,
according to Article 355AC

of the Laws of Criminal Procedure
for the Republic of Malta?

Yeah. No one actually read us our rights.

Is that true?

What were you two doing
at the home of Dr. Kovacic?

Uh, we were worried about our friend.

What friend?

He didn't come home last night.

And a couple of days ago
we saw him talking to Dr. Kovacic.

Creepy guy.

Then we saw his name on the news,
so we went to his apartment.

We weren't trying to steal anything.
We were just trying to find our friend.

You two wait here.

Jack. That was-- Ooh.

What-- How about you tell me
what the hell is going on?

We're working on it. He's okay.
He called us this morning.

Yeah. It was a bad line,
but he said he was good.

You don't know where he is?

That's it.
I'm getting on a plane, right now.

Don't do that.

Why not?

Because we're on it.

You're in a police station.

Not for much longer, thanks to you.

By the time you've bought a ticket,
queued at the airport, boarded a plane,

we could have found him already.
We're right here.

This is our responsibility.
Let us do what we can.

I want updates.

Every hour, on the hour.

Find Alex.

Where's Kellner?

Whitehall.

Covering her back.

[Crawley] Ah, um--
We're fast-tracking the autopsies,

there were no marks, no blisters,
no signs of any chemical attacks.

No burns. Nothing.

Anyone can k*ll a bus full of people.

But to be this selective...

You should be dead.

But you're not. Nor are the soldiers.

We're gonna need more time.

[Julia]
This could be your home.

I want you to join Scorpia.
You're a lot like your father.

And he was a Scorpia agent.

[grunting]

You're not a prisoner.
The road's right there.

If you walk along it in two miles,

there's a bus stop
that'll take you back to Valletta.

But before you go, there is one last thing
I think you need to know.

What?

Do you know how your father died?

Plane crash.

Is that what they told you?

What I'm about to show you is classified.

Only senior Scorpia agents
have seen this.

What is this?

An exchange of hostages.

We'd kidnapped
a senior British civil servant.

We did it to put pressure
on the UK government.

Except, three weeks before our operation,
Alan Blunt set a trap

and I'm ashamed to say
we walked right into it.

Your father was captured
by the Department.

We assumed we'd never see him again.

That he'd end up
in some faraway place,

tortured for everything
he knew about us.

That's him.

That's your father.

They made us an offer.
Blunt made us an offer.

Exchange of prisoners.

We give them the man we'd kidnapped.

They give us back your father.

We agreed. Of course we agreed.
He was one of us.

This...

won't be easy for you to watch.

Show me.

It was a sn*per.

They used your father
to get what they wanted,

and once they had no more use for him,
they shot him in the back.

They m*rder*d him, on that bridge.
You were six months old.

I'm sorry.

Do you still think I'm lying?

Do you think I faked the video,
invented it all?

Do you still want to walk away?

What do you want?

This thing you're planning...

Yes?

Is it gonna end the Department?

Yes.

I'll help.

I need more than that, Alex.

I'll join Scorpia.

Thank you.

We're gonna train you, Alex.
Make you the best.

Starting right now.
I want you to meet your tutor.

Hello, Alex.

[theme music playing]
