the story of peter the peacock

[Music]

peter the peacock was terribly proud

of his lovely tail feathers which stood

out in a crowd

but alas this young peacock was shallow

and vain

he loved only himself and he made that

quite

plain peter loved to show off

to strut and to preen in the places

where folk

go to see and be seen all dressed up in

their best

they'd go out for the night and dance at

the disco

until it was light

when pete strutted in he revealed his

fan

tale all the girls swooned

he just couldn't fail one p

hen called penny dressed always in brown

she couldn't afford the posh shops in

town

but though she dressed plainly not

flashy or smart

beneath her drab clothes beat a warm

loving heart poor penny looked on

for dance after dance wishing that peter

would spare her a glance but dancing

till dawn

just isn't right it's bad for your

feathers

to shake them all night soon

peter's tail was peppered with holes

by the end of the week all he had were

ten

poor poles panicked and let out a shout

my feathers he cried they've all fallen

out

he quickly found glue in a really big

pot

and he stuck them back on each in the

right spot

he went out that night but he wasn't in

luck

for after one dance he soon came unstuck

when everyone saw they pointed and

laughed

what happened to you you really look

daft

you're no longer handsome the great king

of cool

in fact you look silly a featherless

fool peter fled home to hide

his head hung in shame until someone

outside

called out his name it was penny the

peahen

concerned at his plight she said i just

came

to make sure you're all right

pizza don't come near i look really

revolting

don't worry said penny you probably

molting

i'm sure very soon you'll grow back

every feather

and then you will be just as handsome as

ever

so for the next month pete stayed cooped

up inside with his faithful friend penny

right by his side his feathers grew back

just like penny said they looked even

better

blue yellow and red penny made for the

door

to let the hens know but peter cried

stop

i can't let you go when i lost all my

feathers

i gained something new and i'd lose them

again

if i could swap them for you though your

dress doesn't glitter

from neckline to hem you're a

beautiful person a treasure a gem

how silly i've been the famous chap

going

it's what lies inside makes a person

worth knowing

and because she had been such a genuine

friend

penny the pee him got her man in the end
