As you know,
today is the bicentenary
of the Battle of Malory Bay,
Where my ancestor, Sir Charles,
fought to keep this area safe for
future generations.
To talk about this, I'd like to
invite our head of lower school,
Darrell Rivers, to speak.
Erm, ah...
Although it happened 200 years
ago, he, erm...
Ah...
Erm, sorry, sorry, I had a brilliant
speech all planned, but...
...well, my notes are rather more
muddy than what I was counting on.
[AUDIENCE LAUGHS]
But I can tell you what the
overall spirit of what
I was going to say was, at least.
These past four years of my life
have been the
most special time for me.
Coming to Malory Towers has given me
the most wonderful friends.
And having my sister here this year
has made it even more special.
And I think family is
what the school is really about.
Miss Grayling's ancestor Sir
Charles fought to protect this land
and, well, 200 years later,
his family is still making the
very most of it.
And I suppose the real spirit of the
school is that it makes us
all part of a family.
And I think that's so very important
because, well, without family,
life would be so very hard and,
erm...
...no-one deserves that.
So, although it happened
the battle of Malory Bay and all the
things that Sir Charles fought for
still live on through
his family today. Thank you.
