[Thunder crashing]

[Wind howling]

[Roaring]

[Thunder crashing]

[Shrill laughing]

[Zapping]

[Sign buzzing]

[Flickering]

Dad?

Where's Erin?

I need those cans of soup

for tomorrow.

She's gone down to the cellar

to fetch them.

But knowing that daughter of

yours, she's cooking up

something else.

[Clattering]

Mom!

Help, Mom, help!

Erin, are you all right?

[Gasping]

[Laughing]

Gotcha!

[Sighing]

[Chuckling]

You know, I'm getting a

little fed up with these jokes.

Aww, come on, Mom.

Where's your sense of humour?

Grandpa thought it was funny.

Look, I like to laugh as much

as anybody else.

But this isn't funny.

You go too far.

Haven't you ever heard the story

of the boy who cried "Wolf"?

Not in the last day or two.

It was just a joke, Mom.

I'll see you at home.

[Sighing]

Oh, I thought everyone had gone.

Sorry to alarm you.

I was just passing through and

thought I'd stop in.

I'm sorry you had to hear

all that.

One of these days, those pranks

of hers are going to come back

to haunt her.

Exactly what I was thinking.

[Crickets chirping]

[Owl hooting]

What's her problem?

I'm just trying to have a

little fun.

It's not like there's anything

else to do out here, in the

middle of nowhere.

[Crickets chirping]

Grandpa ought to be heading

home soon.

Maybe I'll have some fun

with him.

[Crickets chirping]

Since Erin isn't willing to

take the high road and tame

these cry-wolf pranks of hers,

she leaves me no choice but to

give this story a turn for

the worst.

[Laughing]

This is just great.

It's almost nightfall.

And I'm lost, wonderful.

[Beeping]

Oh, no, it's them.

What am I going to say?

[Beeping]

Ben Arnold here.

Oh, I was just about to

contact you.

I'm making wonderful progress.

Yes, I've found a small town

that fits perfectly into

your plans.

Yes, of course, I won't

disappoint you.

[Beeping]

Some progress.

I haven't seen a town for days.

This is the biggest deal of

my life.

And I can't even find the

main road.

A town, a town, I got to find a

town, a village, anything.

Whoa!

[Tires screeching]

[Chuckling]

I'm miles from civilization

and I almost run over a

kid's bike.

Help!

Someone help!

[Panting]

[Laughing]

Gotcha.

Oh, I'm sorry.

I thought you were

my grandfather.

I was just playing a

little joke.

That's your idea of a joke?

You scared me half to death.

I could have gone off the road,

hit a tree.

You know, I have half a mind to

press charges.

I said I was sorry.

Yeah, well, sorry isn't

good enough.

What's your name?

Where do you live?

My name is Erin, Erin Dionne.

I live in Deep Woods.

"Deep Woods"?

Is that a town?

Yes, sir, right down there.

"Deep Woods"?

It's not on the map.

No, it's too small.

It's barely a town, really.

After the mine closed,

there's only about 30 or

You... You really didn't mean

that, about the charges,

did you?

No.

I'll let it go this time.

But one of these days,

you're really going to

need help.

And guess what?

No one will believe me.

Bingo.

I couldn't have said it

better myself.

Unfortunately for Erin, that day

has come.

As you can see, I've invited a

few of my grossest friends to

pay a visit to this out of the

way hamlet in order to teach

young Erin a lesson she'll

never forget.

[Laughing]

Hi, guys.

How's business?

Let's just say we've had

better days.

But things might be

looking up.

You didn't have to get all

dressed up just for me.

I've got a meeting in a

few minutes.

Can you fill in for me?

Aww, Mom!

Sorry, but as Mayor, I have

to juggle two jobs.

I got a call this morning from a

representative of a

mining company.

He has a proposal for the town

that might turn things around

for us.

Here he is now.

Mr. Arnold, it's nice to

meet you.

Come in.

[Door closing]

I'd like you to meet my

father Ed and my daughter.

Erin, nice to see you again.

You two have met?

We sure have.

Your daughter pulled quite a gag

on me last night.

I thought he was Grandpa.

Erin, you didn't!

Mayor, it's okay, really.

And if anyone should apologize,

it should be me.

I was pretty blunt with you

last night.

And I'm sorry.

This proposal is very important

to my clients.

Then why don't we step into

my office?

As Mayor, I have a lot of pull

around here.

Phew.

Put this on.

I need a hand with the

grease traps.

[Groaning]

Maybe Mom's right.

Maybe I do go too far sometimes.

I mean, that dumb joke could

have cost the whole town

this deal.

[Rumbling]

What the... What is this?

An earthquake?

Oh, man!

What is that?

Mom, Grandpa!

You won't believe what I

just saw!

There were these things,

these... these creatures like

aliens, only animals, up on

the mountain.

They had this huge ship,

I guess.

It came right out of the ground.

You won't believe it!

You can say that again.

You don't believe me?

Not this time.

We've fallen for enough of your

jokes to know better.

But this isn't a joke.

It's for real.

I saw them.

Come to think of it, I have

heard stories about strange

critters around these parts.

You see?

But never ran into any

of them.

Please, Dad,

don't encourage her.

Come out and see for yourself

if you don't believe me.

They're just up the main road.

Uh-uh, at the corner of Main

and Gotcha, right?

Mom, please, listen to me.

No, you listen, young lady.

You've got to stop

this nonsense.

The whole town is turning out

for Ben Arnold's

proposal tonight.

And I don't want you doing

anything that might have him

thinking twice about getting

involved with this town.

[Phone ringing]

But, Mom...

No buts.

Bev, it's for you.

I'm not joking this time.

I really saw them.

I hate to say "I told"

you so."

Look, I don't want to

alarm anyone.

But I saw what I saw.

Something is out there.

I believe you.

You do?

Well, I'm not one to buy into

all these stories about aliens

or bigfoot.

But I believe you saw something.

Let's go take a look.

Okay, come on.

I'll show you.

The ship came up right

over there.

It left a huge hole.

Erin, this was a

mining community.

The whole area's riddled

with tunnels.

It's probably just a cave-in.

Then how do you explain that?

Well, now this

changes everything.

I know.

Come on.

I can't wait to show this

to Mom.

I'm afraid I can't let you

do that.

My clients wouldn't like it.

What?

[Rumbling]

[Grunting]

Hey, don't go.

They want to meet you.

Ah!

Let go of me!

Let go!

These are the people you're

working for, the ones that

you're representing?

[Speaking alien language]

You have served us well,

human.

This village is suitable for

our needs.

It is remote and unprotected.

It will adequately replenish our

food stores.

"Food"?

What are they talking about?

What food?

We, like you, have developed

an appetite for the flesh of

lesser beings.

Oh no!

You can't!

How can you do this?

Easy.

This is the deal of a lifetime.

They made me an offer I couldn't

pass up.

Oh yeah, they're real.

And there's more when I complete

this deal, a truckload of gold

and precious stones.

All they needed me to do is to

provide the town and get

everyone in one place.

When your mom kicks off that

town meeting tonight, I'll have

done both.

The gathering is about

to commence.

You are the first.

No!

No!

Nighty-night.

No!

[Screeching]

Ooh!

[Screeching]

[Groaning]

[Panting]

Ah!

[Panting]

I wouldn't worry about her.

No one will believe her.

Is that a risk you are

willing to take?

Our remote scouts are in place,

as they have been for these

last days.

Our existence cannot be reported

to anyone, for our sake,

and yours.

She must be silenced.

Mom!

Grandpa!

God, oh no, I've got to

warn them!

BEV:Hello?

Mom, it's me!

I have to talk to you!

Can it wait?

I was just heading out the door

for the town meeting.

No!

Ben Arnold is selling us out.

The meeting is a trap.

I can't believe that on the

most important night of our

lives, you'd pull this:

another of your

ridiculous pranks.

Mom, it isn't a prank.

It's real.

Please believe me.

I'll speak to you later,

young lady.

I've got to go.

No, Mom!

Don't go!

GRANDPA:She's gone, kiddo.

Grandpa, you've got to

stop her.

I'm telling the truth.

You really upset her this

time, Erin.

What's going on?

Erin?

Erin?

[Whirring]

No!

Oh, no, they're watching me!

They know I'm here!

Erin, who's watching you?

If you're listening,

you Benedict Arnold, I'm not

going to let you do this.

I'll stop you!

GRANDPA:Erin?

Erin, are you all right?

Grandpa, can't talk

right now.

But promise me one thing.

Whatever you do, don't go to

that meeting.

[Dial tone humming]

Erin?

Erin?

The meeting is going to start

in a few minutes.

I've got to stop them.

I'm the only chance this town

has got.

[Gasping]

But how?

I'm trapped.

[Panting]

No!

Go away!

Please stop!

It's over.

They're gone?

One, two, three on you.

[Speaking alien language]

No!

Please go away!

Go away!

Die, you infernal critters!

Ganging up on me, huh?

Well, that just don't wash.

[Electric fizzling]

Oh, thank you, Grandpa.

My pleasure, kiddo.

Now do you think you can tell me

what is going on around here?

I'll explain everything on

the way.

Come on.

[Electric fizzling]

Looks like the whole town

is here.

Hurry, let's get them out

of there.

It's too late, Grandpa.

Look!

They're already here.

Please, you can't!

Don't let them do this!

Sorry, kid.

But you've only got yourself to

blame for this.

If it wasn't for that prank you

pulled, I never would have

stumbled on this burg.

I know.

It's my fault.

I'm sorry, Grandpa, so sorry.

What kind of a man are you?

Why, if I was 20 years younger,

I'd...

Save it, gramps.

You and those things make

quite a team.

You're both heartless animals.

Hey, I've got no allegiance

to them.

I'm in this for myself.

In fact, after I'm through here,

I'm putting in a call to a

friend of mine in

the government.

They pay a pretty penny for info

leading to the capture of our

unwanted guests.

Interesting.

But could you repeat that

for me?

And this time, speak into

the microphone.

Oh, no!

The human has deceived us!

Abort the gathering!

Abort!

Looks like the deal is off.

Your clients are leaving.

And if I were you, I'd do

the same.

No!

Oh, no!

[Car door closing]

[Tires screeching]

Man, oh, man, that was close.

Maybe it's best if we don't

tell them.

Or maybe I should tell them.

They wouldn't believe me in a

million years.

We waited for over an hour.

But Ben didn't show up.

He checked out of the motel too.

Sounds to me like he was in a

big hurry to leave town.

Thank goodness we didn't get

involved in any deal he had

to offer.

You were right about him, Erin.

He couldn't be trusted.

Oh yeah, big time.

Now what's all this stuff

about creatures out to get us?

Ancient history, Mom.

Believe me, I pulled my last

cry-wolf prank.

Good for you.

Well, I'm off for

another meeting.

I've got to head up the mountain

with one of the geologists.

Those cave-ins Erin found

look promising.

My guess is those critters

turned up a lot of new veins in

their travels.

You may have saved the town

twice in the same week.

Hey, it's the least I

could do.

It's just a shame Ben got away.

A guy like that doesn't deserve

to breathe free air.

[Tires spinning]

Perfect, just perfect.

I could have been halfway across

the country by now.

Oh, uhh, I was, uhh... I was

going to call you.

Look, if I were you, I'd get out

of here.

I, uhh... I've already informed

the government about you.

They're on their way.

Let them come.

When they arrive, we will

already be gone, and so

will you.

What are you going to do

to me?

That has yet to

be determined.

No!

Get away!

Get back!

Help!

Somebody, please help!

Now there's a familiar cry.

It sounds just like the boy who

cried "Wolf".

He and Erin, and now poor

Ben Arnold, have learned that

when they really need help,

no one will come running.

[Laughing]

Well, that's our delicious story

for today, crypt kiddies.

Until next time, creep out of

trouble because I'll be

watching.
