We went on a family picnic last weekend,

and saw lots of people
using plastic plates.

But since it's bad for the planet,

I'll make Earth-friendly plates
out of something like… grass?

No. Feathers?

Uh-uh. Ooh, I know! Banana leaves.

They're strong and natural.

That idea is bananas, and I love bananas.

I also love fashion,

but the industry makes tons of waste.

So, for my project,

I'm gonna take old clothes,
and transform 'em into brand-new ones.

Very eco-chic, Rosie.

I think I'll design a really neat garden
the whole neighborhood can use.

-[Ada] Wow!
-Cool!

Growing food locally helps the community,

and it's good for the Earth
'cause it cuts down on emissions.

Missions? Like super top-secret ones?

Oh, Iggy, are you a spy?

[laughs] No. "Emissions."

Pollution that humans make
from stuff like cars and factories.

-Or trucks that carry food long ways.
-[coughing] Ew.

-We don't like emissions.
-But we do love fresh fruits and veggies.

Pineapples are my favorite,
especially on a sunny day, like today.

Wait! Sun! I know what to make.

I'll hook my DJ equipment up
to solar panels.

That'll get the crowd hyped
and protect the planet.

The sun doesn't
send any emissions into the air.

That's all clean energy, all the time.

Guess we know what we're
making for Earth Fest.

that we finally defeat Lord Meanbottom,

Yep. We travelled back 30 years.

That's like when Mom and Dad were kids.

Also looks like there were
way more trees and plants in the past.

of other lizards, though.

We don't have many lizards
at the park in the future--

The past was a blast,
and had more lizards and birds and stuff,

but I really gotta go,

since Mom and Dad were kids.

They can be pretty random.

Is it 'cause it used to be
covered by water?

The park used to have more pollinators,
like bees and butterflies. Right?

I don't see many birds either.

That's not a symphony,
it's a solo, as in so lonely.

There used to be
so many lizards back in the day,

but now I only see one.

There's just not as many bugs
and animals in the park anymore

'cause of climate change.

What does weather have to do with lizards?

Weather and climate are different things.

Weather is a specific event,
like a hot day or storm,

that happens over a short period of time.

Like how it's warm and sunny today,
or how it thunderstormed last week.

[shudders] It was so loud.

And climate is the average weather
over longer periods of time.

Like how
the North Pole's climate is chilly,

while the Sahara Desert's climate
is hot and dry.

Now the whole Earth's climate is
changing 'cause of things humans do,

like making tons of emissions.

Yeah, it's making the whole Earth
hotter than usual.

But why is a hot Earth a bad thing?

I love summer.

Well, this is a dream. [chuckles]
So, yeah, we're friends now.

So, what's going on?

We wanna know why it's bad
climate change is making the Earth hotter.

Oh, I can answer that.

Taking care of the Earth
is important to me.

I'm a water protector
for the Ojibwe people.

-[all] Cool.
-Come on, let's walk and talk. Whoa!

-[all shriek]
-[laughing]

I mean, scoot and talk, I guess.
Dreams are the best.

Okay, so to understand why it's bad

that climate change is
making the world hotter,

think of the atmosphere like
a blanket made up of all kinds of gases.

Having a bit of a blanket is good.
It stops the Earth from being too cold.

But when we burn stuff like coal
and gas, called fossil fuels,

we send too many emissions
into the atmosphere.

That makes the blanket thick.

That's changing weather
all over the world.

[Ada] It's making glaciers melt,

and the sea levels
are getting a lot higher.

[Rosie] And even causing
really scary storms in some places. Right?

Yep. And it's making
droughts worse in other places.

That's when it doesn't rain enough,
so rivers and lakes dry up.

[gasps] Like how the creek doesn't
have as much water as it used to.

But I still don't get
how it affects lizards.

Well, climate change
affects a lot of things on Earth,

-like rivers, birds, bees--
-And lizards.

Makes sense. They need sun and shade
to make themselves warmer or colder,

since their bodies
can't do that on their own.

And if it's too toasty,
lizards get super hot and can't cool down.

Oh, man. So, what's gonna
happen to all the lizards?

-And Earth? And us?
-Do you wanna tell him, Ada? Or should I?

Maybe it's better if we show him.

-Come on, Arthur.
-Whoa!

Whoa! [shrieks]

Yep. Or at least what it might look like
when we're my Glam-Ma's age.

'cause of all the dust.

There's no trees, no animals, no nothing!

All dried up.

insane in the mainframe.

There's not enough water
or plants for them to survive.

-Not a lot of people live on Earth now.

since the Earth isn't
a good home for us anymore.

Poor Earth. She used to be so beautiful.

-I miss her.

Space can't be a bad place to live, right?
It's like, uh, we're all astronauts now.

I guess.
I can't really live anywhere else.

This isn't a dream, it's a nightmare.

from getting worse.

Which means,
a beautiful future is still possible.
