Escaping Ohio (2023)

Post by bunniefuu »

[Sam] In fifth grade,

my class had to do a project

on the most important people

from Ohio.

But I decided to do my project

not on one person,

but on what

connected all of them.

I realized then and there,

they weren't successful

because they were from Ohio,

they were successful

because they got the hell out.

["Good Day Cafe"

by For Lack of a Term plays]

[indistinct lyrics]

For the first time

in a long time

I feel so alive

Gotta remember

to close my eyes

I put my headphones in

and let the music play

As I make my escape

I've got memories to make

This was never

going to last

Hey, can you tell JJ

Mom needs him in ten?

Copy.

[Sam] Yep, that's me, Sam Posey.

Born and raised

in a small town in Akron, Ohio.

There's not much to report yet,

because my story

has barely started.

Everywhere, so many things

And so many places...

Oh, co-- come on,

I was so close!

[chuckles] No, you weren't.

Well,

I'm closer than usual.

-Your mom wants you down in ten.

-What for?

I don't know, maybe your party?

[cassette clicking

and rewinding]

[Sam] This is JJ

He's kind of a doofus,

but he's my doofus.

We go as far back

as I can remember.

I don't think we ever had

that moment

when we became best friends.

We've just always been

JJ and Sam.

We spend pretty much

every day together,

finding anything to keep us

from dying of boredom.

You're doing great.

Have you started timing me yet?

You don't even have a watch on!

[Sam]

He even took a job at Swensons

just to keep me entertained.

Did you see how fast that was?

You want friends with speed,

I'm just saying.

[Sam] I think that may be

what defines

our friendship, actually.

He saves me

from the misery of growing up

in a town with nothing to do.

[cassette rewinding

and clicking]

Why can't people just

send checks in the mail

and skip all the hugs

and small talk?

You know how much

I love your family parties.

Ah, well, lucky for you,

my creepy Uncle Dave

won't be here today.

You know,

I actually think I prefer him

over your Aunt Kathy.

What? She's a saint!

With big checks.

Well, she always asks

if we're dating,

and when I tell her no,

for the hundredth time,

she still acts surprised

and then demands to know

who I'm seeing.

Damn, Aunt Kathy,

you girl has more going on

than her love life.

She probably just doesn't know

what else to talk about.

You should open your gift now.

Gift?

Like I wasn't going to

get you anything.

It's in my bag.

It ain't a big old check.

-Do you remember?

-Are you kidding?

Those were the good old days.

No worry

about the future or what's next.

All that mattered was

how much candy

we could shove in a pillowcase.

Yeah, and how hard

you could knee Johnny Mannebusen

in the nuts

if he tried to steal it.

as*h*le deserved it.

Stealing candy

from some skinny little dweeb.

Hey, okay,

I was not that skinny.

You were

just a really muscular kid.

So you accept the dweeb part?

Oh, yeah, no, I'm still a dweeb.

Dweeb for life.

You know...

[Sam]

Even though JJ and I only live

ten blocks away from

each other,

we grew up a little different.

He's got the white

picket fence,

the PTA mom,

the model sister

and a successful dad

who's already mapped out

his entire future.

Yeah, I'm going to be

studying business,

and, uh, then I'm going to be

working part-time

in the Akron office.

Yep, and after graduation,

he's going to become a VP

and in due time

take over for me.

[Jerry] Well, sh*t, boy.

Sounds like I need to

start bothering you about a job

instead of my brother-in-law.

Speaking of which,

I got a little idea

I've been cooking up.

I think

it's going to blow your mind.

[Frank] Jerry,

nobody cares about your ideas.

[Jerry] Oh, come on now, Frank.

It's different

than the other one.

Oh, such a beautiful young girl.

You should have a boyfriend.

[Sam] See, what did I say?

["Good + Ready"

by Detention plays]

No escape

from how I'm feeling

I'm staring holes

[Sam]

That's our friend Courtney,

the popular girl

I thought I'd hate

-but couldn't help but love.

-All right.

[Sam]

And our other friend Taylor.

She's the one person

who sees Ohio like I do.

She wants to leave so bad,

she joined the Air Force.

What's happening over there?

She's trying to make me jealous.

She's convinced I'm going to

cheat while I'm away.

I don't think she understands

how the military works.

You're doing long distance?

-Of course.

-That never works.

I mean, you two have

a healthy relationship.

[Jerry] Hey, there's Samantha.

How's your folks doing?

[laughs] Doing good, thanks.

That's good to hear.

They're always in our prayers.

Thank you.

So, now, where are y'all headed?

[Sam]

Ugh, the dreaded question.

I never know how to answer,

but I mean,

why should I have to?

I've spent

my whole life in school,

just graduated, and I haven't

even had the chance

to figure out who I really am.

All I know is my

life will start

when I finally get out of here.

Speaking of...

I just applied

to this writing internship

in California.

JJ says it's a long shot,

but I applied anyways

because it might just be

my ticket out.

Well, except for this

other thing.

Your scholarship.

Scholarship?

Yeah, she got a STEM scholarship

to Akron U.

-Full ride.

-Oh, that's fantastic!

[Sam] It is, but it might

just keep me here forever.

[Sam exclaims]

-How are you so bad at this?

-I don't know.

-Here, let me.

-No, I can do it.

You don't have to be perfect

all the time.

Okay, shut up.

I have plenty

of other weaknesses

besides roasting marshmallows.

Yeah, like letting people

do things for you?

Fine.

-Thank you.

-It's my pleasure.

Hey, guys, we're heading over

to Meg's party. You coming?

Lame.

All right, here you go.

This is gonna be the best thing

you're ever gonna have

every time you go camping.

You're thinking a me, my lady.

-All right, give me that.

-A lady must never grab.

Well, good thing I ain't a lady.

All right.

You win this one.

Well, you just have to show

the marshmallow

a little love and care.

Is that so?

Here, let me

put it in your language.

You have to rotate the sphere

45 degrees on the y-axis.

-No, that's not right?

-[Sam chuckles]

I thought that was right. No?

Okay, so this is why

I almost failed math.

No, you almost failed math

because you were asleep

half the time.

Okay, well, it's not my fault

that that class

is at the same time

as my scheduled nap.

So you're gonna schedule

your college classes around this

scheduled block of napping?

Uh, hell yeah.

That's the best part

of college, right?

And then when I'm VP,

I'm gonna put a futon

in my office

and I'm gonna keep

that time blocked off.

Nap time.

Got it all figured out, huh?

Oh, I'm living

the good life, Sam.

You already joined

the dark side, man.

Adulthood.

And the best part

of your day is sleep.

[scoffs] I'm no adult.

I don't know.

I think you lost your edge.

-I resent that.

-Then again,

you would have had

to have it in the first place.

Oh, okay. That's it.

-You're getting the wet willy.

-No, no, no!

-Okay, no!

-Literally.

[Sam] Okay, stop!

Are you sure they're partying

in the basement?

Oh, why? Are you scared?

-No.

-[mockingly] No.

["Don't Wanna Grow Up"

by Space Camp plays]

Welcome to the other side

I said, oh...

You go that way, I go this way,

then we throw them.

No, no, no, just go.

No, no, no, you go this way,

I go this way--

-Okay.

-Just go, go, go.

Welcome to the other side

I don't wanna grow up

I don't wanna grow up

See-- whoa!

Wait, wait, wait, wait.

This is my favorite house!

Sam, what are you doing?

-Sam.

-Shh, shh, shh.

Sam, what are you doing?

[JJ] Whoa.

[Sam laughs] Yeah.

So this guy

that had grown up here,

he'd gone off to New York City

to study architecture,

and in the 1950s,

he had come back to build this.

The town hated it

because it stood out

from the rest

of the neighborhood.

It didn't match

their cookie-cutter colonials.

So they forced him

to build this fence around it,

and now no one sees it.

You want a ride home?

You've been drinking.

That's not what I meant.

[both laughing]

[Sam]

Keep your eyes on the road!

-Right here, driver.

-My lady.

-Good night.

-Night, sweetie.

[Sam] I thought you quit.

-Huh?

-[Sam chuckles]

How was the party?

Uh, your typical

suburban party.

Hey.

I got a call

from Dan Sullivan

saying that you TP'd his house.

Well, what else do you expect me

to do in this boring town?

I don't know.

Not destroy property?

It's toilet paper.

Aren't you guys a little old

to be doing that kind of stuff?

Are you too

old to be playing guitar?

[scoffs] No.

Well, there you have it.

[mockingly]

"Well, there you have it."

[chuckles]

-[guitar strumming]

-Sounds good.

Thank you.

["Dollar Slice"

by Bloomsday plays]

Morning routine

Eggs over easy

Just how you like me

'Cause you're always

running

What were you dreamin'

You were kicking

and whisper screaming

While you were sleeping

["Sam" by Pandamic plays]

I was thinking back

to the last time

I've seen you

We were talking about

All the sh*t

that we've been through

What you never told me,

just to make me feel good

-[Rick groans]

-[Sam] Oh, sorry, boss,

but you're out.

I swear, I've been hitting

40 for 40

whenever you're not here.

Doesn't look like it,

but whatever helps you

sleep at night.

You know, the way

that you've been hitting,

you could play for Akron's

softball team next season.

You'd be a shoo-in.

Yeah, I don't know

about all that, Dad.

I'm just saying,

you have a lot of talent.

But, you know, far be it for me

to tell you where to use it.

-Well, thank you.

-[Rick] Mm-hmm.

Now, don't spend the rest

of your shift practicing,

because I don't think

it's going to help too much.

-[mock laughs] Funny.

-[Sam chuckles]

Skate on home, you little sh*t.

[laughs]

["California" by Suzi Moon plays

over speakers]

I wanna be up there

on the big screen

I'm gonna burn

as bright as the golden sun

'Cause all the kids

are singin'

La, la, la, la

Let's go to California

La, la, la

It's gonna be so great...

My doctor told me this test

was going to cost about $300,

so I don't understand

how I have a bill for $4,000.

No, no, no, no, I don--

I can't be on hold.

I-- I cannot be

on hold for another hour.

I'm sorry, sir.

Sorry.

Lost track of time,

just was out skating.

I wondered what smelled.

What, you're not going to

punch me?

Huh?

Everything good?

Yeah, yeah, all good.

Just family stuff.

It's fine. Let's go.

Okay.

[engine whirring]

All right, I'll put

that order in for you.

Can you turn

your headlights off?

I could do, like,

a light haunting.

[girl] Hot in.

Right? Like,

"Whoa, a chair moved.

Maybe it was me, I don't know.

Oh, no, a broom fell over."

Light haunting.

It's like Casper's,

like, kind of friendly cousin.

[chuckling]

How would you know, though,

if it's, like,

a light haunting or--

[JJ] Hey, good evening,

welcome to Swensons.

What can I get you?

Two Galley Boys

for two galley gals,

coming right up.

Or if you're just going crazy.

What? What do you mean?

That's the fun of it.

No, I feel like

I'd hate that more.

You wouldn't be able

to talk to anyone about it.

They wouldn't believe you.

Of course

they would believe you.

No, they wouldn't.

They'd be like,

"Oh, where's the proof?"

Or, "You're probably just

making it up for attention."

Attention. Oh.

-Hey, hey, hey.

-[Courtney] Hi.

[Taylor] What's going on?

Oh, same old sh*t.

Gonna be a change

for you, though, huh?

A month out now?

Yeah, almost.

We're throwing

Taylor a going-away party,

so you better be there.

-Um...

-[Taylor] Oh, come on.

-For me?

-[Sam chuckles]

Fine.

Hey, did you ever hear about

that internship?

-Well...

-[Taylor] Oh, hell yeah, girl.

That's what I'm talking about.

Wait, what internship?

Uh, I applied to this internship

thing in Santa Barbara.

Oh, my God. That's amazing.

I didn't think

I was actually gonna get it.

Oh, shut up. It's you.

Of course you would.

Wait, so does that mean

you're taking it?

Oh, I haven't even thought

that far ahead yet.

Um, I have until the end

of summer to decide, so--

[gasps] Oh, my God. Wait.

You would be

the cutest little surfer babe.

Oh, my gosh.

There we go with Courtney.

With your bikini.

Oh, my God. That'd be so cute.

-Well, hey there, cowgirl.

-[Courtney] Howdy.

Not everyone

in Texas is a cowboy, JJ.

Hey, the one

guy I met from Texas was,

so in my book, they all are.

You do realize how

messed up that sounds, right?

Very.

Well, to his point, though,

the only girl I know

from California was blonde,

so you'll fit right in.

-What?

-She got the internship.

Yeah, she did.

You applied?

Just-- just to see

what would happen.

[Taylor] Oh, did you not...

No.

I-- I don't even know

what I'm gonna do yet.

Um, you know what?

I should put your order in.

-Uh, same as usual, right?

-[Courtney] Uh, yeah.

Wait, sorry. I just figured...

Sam.

Hey, why didn't you tell me?

Can we do this later?

-Sam, just--

-Hot in.

Hot out.

Yeah, why didn't you

just even tell me?

I mean, I-- I-- why didn't you

tell me you applied?

I'm supportive.

Just didn't think

it was a big deal, okay?

What, not a big deal

that my best friend's gonna

move to the other

side of the country?

JJ, I haven't even thought

about tomorrow,

let alone

that far in the future.

Yeah, this doesn't explain

why you wouldn't--

-Just later, okay?

-Sam.

[car horn blares]

[crickets chirping]

Can't believe

we're gonna have to start

paying for Galley Boys soon.

It sucks.

So, um...

California?

I was gonna tell you eventually.

Well, why didn't you, then?

Because of this.

Because you just--

you don't get it.

[chuckles] What don't I get?

Well, you could never understand

why anyone

would want to leave Ohio.

Well, yeah,

Ohio's the best state ever.

-Why would anyone want to--

-[Sam scoffs]

Well, it is.

Well, thanks

for proving my point.

Okay, well,

then explain it to me.

No, because you don't get it.

Okay, fine.

-Tell me, or else.

-JJ, come on.

Tell me, or else.

Sam, tell me, tell me,

tell me, Sam, tell me!

-Come on.

-Fine, okay, just...

I don't see myself

ending up here.

And I feel like

if I don't escape now,

I'll just end up stuck in

the same cycle

as everyone else.

Like with this STEM scholarship,

all I ever hear is how great

of an opportunity it is,

how I'll graduate debt-free

and make a good living,

but I'll still be in Ohio.

I don't get it.

I mean,

what's so bad about that?

Sorry, what was that?

You don't get it?

Oh, shut up. I mean, I--

Why are you complaining

about a good living?

I'm not complaining.

It's just-- it's safe.

It makes sense.

And that's so bad?

I just don't feel like

we were put on this earth

to just settle.

I mean, there's

a whole world out there.

Why does everyone here act like

they don't have

the choice to leave?

I don't know. We're--

Maybe they already found

what they were looking for here,

and-- and they don't have to

search the whole world

-just to find it.

-But

how do they know

if they haven't even tried?

I mean, the thought

doesn't even cross their minds.

Because it's comfortable here.

It's easy.

And they're too damn afraid

to do something different.

I feel like

that's a little unfair.

I'd say it's pretty accurate.

Okay, well, fine, then.

Uh, how about you feed

that high horse you're up on?

I just...

I just-- I don't want to

end up like that.

I want to be able

to look back at my life

and know that

I lived it to the fullest.

I mean, we have

our whole lives ahead of us.

Why the hell

wouldn't we ask for everything?

Well, you can have

everything here.

Maybe we just have different

definitions of everything.

Or maybe you can't see

the beauty around you

because you take it for granted.

Sorry, I don't appreciate

the corn.

I'm serious.

Maybe if you stopped

hating on Ohio for a second,

you'd see what I see.

All right,

I'm gonna say something,

but you gotta

promise not to get mad.

-What?

-Promise.

-No.

-[scoffs] It's...

it's just...

as long as I've known you,

it's like you're searching

for happiness

like it's somewhere else.

I-- I don't know.

Running off to California.

I mean, maybe

you'll find it, but...

I don't think it's the state

that's the problem.

Why did you become so wise?

-I said don't get mad.

-I'm not mad.

And I didn't promise, so...

I just--

I think it's more than that.

Yeah, okay, like,

maybe I'll think

I'll be happier there,

but not because

I'm unhappy here.

Because I'm not grateful

or whatever it is you're saying,

but just because...

because... [chuckles nervously]

I don't know.

I just think that you can find

what you're looking for

right here.

-That's all.

-I don't know.

It's been 18 years

and I haven't found sh*t.

What if I prove it to you?

What?

What if I show you

why Ohio is so great?

JJ, I've seen it.

-I'm good.

-No, no, no.

I don't think you have.

Just hear me out.

If-- if you don't--

if you can't appreciate

what you have here,

then how do you know that

California is gonna be

any better

and you're gonna

appreciate that?

-Because--

-No, no, no.

Just hang on a second. Just...

give me one day, all right?

And-- and then if you still

wanna leave after that,

then I'll shut up

about it forever.

Seriously?

Yeah. I promise.

Okay. Deal.

Let's go.

No, wait. Hang on a second.

You wanna do this right now?

Yeah, let's see what you got,

because I'm sure

it's a whole lot of nothing.

No, no, no, no.

If we only have

one shot at this,

then I'm gonna need

at least the night to plan it.

Fine. I guess that's fair.

Plus, you should

probably shower.

You're gonna start smelling

a little bit, you know?

Oh, I know you're getting old

because that was some weak sh*t.

-Weak, weak, weak, weak.

-Because it's a fry.

-Weak, weak, Sam.

-Like yours is any better.

Uh, it's a little bit better.

["Cleveland"

by Dive Bombs plays]

Leave me fiendin'

in this small town

Or keep me in Cleveland

In your arms now

So, are you ready for JJ

and Sam's big Ohio adventure?

Okay, you cannot call it that.

But I already wrote it down.

-You made a list?

-Hey, hey.

This is for my eyes only.

That looks long.

Well, it's just because

Ohio has so much to offer.

Yeah, okay.

All right,

you can't be negative today.

I just state facts.

Yeah, that's what

negative people say.

Are you really not gonna tell me

what's on it?

No, but what I can tell you

is that it starts right here.

The Lamppost?

But we always come here.

Exactly.

That's why it's so special.

So, have we been

to all of these places?

Uh, some, yeah.

How long is this gonna take?

Are you in a rush?

-No.

-Okay.

Well, then,

just sit back, relax,

and allow me to show you

the hidden beauty in Ohio.

One, two, three, four!

["Honey" by Coastal Club plays]

A long drive

to my parent's house

Uh, oh,

maybe we can go that way?

I'll pick you up

from your caffeine drought

I got a feeling

that you're coming around

I got a feeling,

I got a feeling

We'll take a stop

to get an ice-cold Coke

I started laughing

at the words you spoke

I kind of like you

and your stupid jokes

-O-H?

-[girl] I-O.

I kind of like you,

but love is a chore

And through it all,

I want more

Take it slow...

You know you can't get better

ice cream than here.

You know they have

like 14 locations

in California, right?

No, this is the best one.

-By far.

-This location?

This location is the best one.

The best one in the world.

But we've got a ways to go,

you're wide-eyed and...

Best in the world.

I know you're dying

to get outside, darlin'

Sam! What's going on?

What are you doing?

Cheese.

I got a fever

that I cannot shake

Hey, hey

The thought of you

and the interstate

I've got a fever

that just won't go away

Hey, hey

I got a fever,

I got a fever

A long drive to paradise

See? We got a beach right here.

But I want it all, love,

don't you?

-This is a lake.

-You're negative.

Facts.

I've learned

to love you, honey

But we've got a ways to go

You're wide-eyed

And inside I know

you're dying

to get outside, darlin'

I've learned

to love you, honey

And you've got

a way with me

You're wide-eyed and alive

So full of life,

I'm mesmerized by your love

Give me, give me your love,

by your love

Give me, give me your love,

by your love

Give me your love

By your love, by, by, by,

by your love

[crickets chirping]

Okay, I'm gonna say something,

but you have to promise

not to hold it against me.

Ooh, I don't think

I can do that.

I had a lot of fun today.

Samantha, are you saying

that you-- you enjoyed Ohio?

JJ, I said you can't--

Hey, do you hear that,

everybody?

Samantha Posey had fun in Ohio!

I take it back, jerk.

Hey, hey, just you wait.

For the rest of the summer,

we're going to go

to the best spots

that this state has to offer.

Every day, a new spot.

Every one.

You are hopelessly devoted

to Ohio.

Yeah, I mean, I love it here.

I don't know, it's just...

I-- I can't explain it.

It's everything.

It's the-- it's the life

and the beauty and...

I don't know, it's so much more

than that, too.

It's the...

the moments

that Ohio has to offer

and the-- the memories

that you create,

the people you share it with.

I mean, it's like...

it's like this.

You know, sitting

in the bed of my truck,

the fresh air, under the stars.

My favorite person

in the whole wide world.

[Sam chuckles]

I never thought of it like that.

You're my favorite person.

[chuckles]

[both chuckle]

I love you, Sam.

I love you, too.

[both chuckle]

Who's the boy?

What do you mean?

Who's the boy?

JJ.

-Really?

-Yeah.

That's great.

Oh, he is just the sweetest.

He really is.

I'm happy for both of you.

Just say

what you want to say, Mom.

Sorry, sorry,

sorry I said anything.

I just...

I figured you were always

just friends for a reason.

Well, you're the one

who says friends make

the best lovers, so...

-Lovers? Uh...

-No, no, that's not--

that's not what I meant.

Um...

-Never mind.

-Wait, wait, wait.

Whatever happened

to that thing in California,

the internship?

-I got it.

-Wait, what?

-Yeah.

-You never told me.

-I'm sorry.

-No, no, that's amazing.

Oh.

My baby's going to be

all the way on the other side

of the country.

Oh, well, I have until the end

of summer to decide, so...

So you're rethinking it.

I wonder why.

Better take that pill

like clockwork.

Mom.

How do you think Cousin Carrie

got pregnant at Burning Man?

Oh, my God.

Yeah, oh, no,

just don't think about it.

[phone buzzing]

["Waiting for You"

by Allister plays]

If I could tell

you one thing,

then I'd tell you everything

I'd probably say that

you've been on my mind

So, technically,

this is our first date, right?

Wait, are you saying

the Valentine's Day dance

wasn't a date?

-In eighth grade?

-Yeah.

-No.

-What?

Come on, you knew

I was crushing on Freddie.

Okay, can we please not talk

about your past lovers?

Not lovers.

He got expelled for burning down

the boys' bathroom.

Okay, fine, then crushes.

On what I'm now aware

is our first date.

I'm so sorry.

However,

can I make it up to you?

Why did it take so long, though,

for us to get here?

I don't know, maybe because

you were crushing

on guys like Freddie.

Okay, like, you can talk?

Jenna?

-Okay, that's not fair.

-Jenna!

-She was nice!

-Nice to you.

She was just jealous of you.

What?

Yeah, I mean,

she-- she hated that you always,

you know, came over.

Why did you never tell me that?

Well, because I told her that

if she made me choose...

you'd win.

I don't know, I guess...

I just never wanted to ruin us.

You know?

Me too.

["Too Young to Burn"

by Sonny & The Sunsets plays]

When I was just a kid,

they said

Kid, don't you cry

I am older now I say

It's all right

Anyone coming?

Every tear rolling down

is a lesson learned...

sh*t.

Come on, you're up.

How do you do it, Sam?

Are you too young to burn?

Too young

Too young to burn

[inaudible conversation]

You got a little--

a little something there.

Oh, where?

-Right there?

-Yeah, right there.

-Right there?

-Yeah, right there.

Can you get it off of me?

Oh, thank you.

-Did I get it?

-Uh, I don't think so.

I don't think so.

Sorry.

Too young to burn

Too young, too young

[muffled chatter]

Hey! I got it!

Too young, too young

Oh, God!

Too young to burn

[inaudible conversation]

Too young, too young

This remaining section

is supporting

Triplett Boulevard,

and if they were to remove it,

uh, the whole road

could collapse.

All right.

This is pretty cool. [chuckles]

See?

I told you

Ohio's full of beauty.

I'm just happy that

the most beautiful part

of Ohio isn't leaving.

[Sam chuckles]

Oh, my God!

-Joseph Jeffrey!

-Oh, come on!

-Full names? Really?

-Yes!

-Yes, Joseph Jeffrey!

-Oh, all right.

All right, Samantha.

[man] Yes, yes,

the Smith Building

on main campus.

Thanks for choosing Akron U.

Sorry about that.

Now, Samantha.

Or, can I call you Sam?

-Sam's cool.

-Cool?

Cool, cool. Sam.

Okay, um...

so, Sam, I noticed

you haven't declared

a major yet.

And it's all good.

It's all good.

But it is imperative

you do so pretty soon.

Just cause, um,

Just to make sure you get into

the courses you need.

They tend to fill up fast.

Well, I was just thinking

I could take some gen ed courses

for a while while I decide

what I want to do.

Mm-hmm. Okay.

Um, well,

do you know at least what branch

you're most interested in?

Um, I was thinking

probably science.

Science! Okay, okay.

And what careers within

that field do you have in mind?

Um...

marine biology could be cool.

I mean, I like the ocean.

Girl, you in Ohio.

There's not a whole lot of

options for a job like that.

Right.

Look, Sam, I don't mean

to put pressure on you.

I really don't.

I know that it's a big decision.

[clicks tongue]

So I suggest you spend

the next few weeks...

thinking about what it is

you really want for your life.

How about we meet again

before the school year starts?

And you can let me know

what you choose.

Hey, cutie. How'd it go?

-Uh...

-What's up?

I don't know, he just...

he wants me to declare a major,

and I wasn't ready

for all of that.

Wait, I thought you already did.

Aren't you doing, like, science?

[scoffs] You know, there's like

a million different options

within science.

Well, yeah, but I thought

you could just, like,

you know,

do some science for a while,

and then, you know,

get specific about it later.

Well, I thought that,

too, but...

-But what?

-Nothing.

Let's just go inside.

All right, well,

I have a hypothesis

that you need some French fries.

[muffled chatter]

-Hey.

-Hey!

Hey, where's Stacy?

-Oh, we had a fight.

-About what?

Well, what do you think?

'Cause I'm leaving.

French fries for the lady.

[gasps] Ooh, babe,

I want French fries.

I love it when

we first get back together.

'Cause he'll do whatever I say.

Oh, is that why you break up

with him so many times?

I can either confirm nor deny.

[laughs] Oh, Courtney.

Okay, this is grosser than when

you guys used to dig for worms.

Okay, we weren't digging

for worms.

Yeah, we were digging

for treasure.

There just happened to be

worms on the way down.

[Courtney gags]

Do we need to have a PDA talk?

Okay, all right, General.

Uh, we'll be good soldiers,

and behave.

[laughs] Okay, chill.

Like, let me get through basic

before you just start

throwing around titles.

Aye-aye, Captain Crunch.

-Private?

-"Captain Crunch."

Oh, Go-- I hate you.

Okay?

Did Robbie get lost

or something?

The French fries were, like,

right there?

Ugh, he's such a sloth boy.

Courtney,

you can't call him that.

Okay, okay. You know what?

I love him, and I asked him

for this act of service,

and he was gracious enough

to do it,

even though I was highly capable

of doing it myself. [sighs]

What?

Okay, come talk to me

after you've been dating

for five years.

Well, aren't you supposed

to reset after a breakup?

Well, you know,

you just subtract

the months, so...

Guys, the rules

are very ambiguous, okay?

All that matters is we always

find each other in the end.

Well, metaphorically, anyway.

I'm gonna go find him. Yeah.

Oh, uh, do you want to still

play skee-ball before we go?

Wait, wait, go? I just got here.

JJ has a big adventure

planned tomorrow.

Oh, my God. Come on, guys.

By the way,

it's my favorite one

on the list.

-Yeah?

-Yeah.

[Taylor] Um, PDA.

-[both] Sorry.

-[Sam laughs]

So, it was meant to be part

of a subdivision in the 1920s,

but when

the market crashed in '29,

they lost their funding

and it was completely abandoned,

so the streets

that were supposed to connect

the bridge on either side,

they were never built.

The bridge to nowhere.

I feel like there's

a good metaphor for Ohio

-in there somewhere.

-Oh, shush.

You know this is cool.

You just don't want to admit it.

["Infinitely Ordinary"

by The Wrecks plays]

I think

I could get used to this

I think

I could get used to this life

I think

I could get used to this

It's infinitely ordinary...

All right. Off to a good start.

Lightning Encounters. We do it.

Boom.

B-C-D-E-F-G-H-I-J-K-L-M-N...

No, but you're close.

...O-P-Q-R-S-T-U

-So close.

-I know.

It's like this far away.

Ugh.

I can't believe Nick

still comes to these parties.

It's like,

go do something with your life.

I thought he went

to play football

in North Carolina or something.

Yeah, but he said he was getting

benched too much or something.

Personally,

I think he just hated

not being the big shot for once.

So, here he is

at an underage party.

He's still just as hot, though.

I mean, maybe if Robbie

and I weren't back together.

[both chuckle]

So, you and JJ?

-Pretty serious, huh?

-[Sam chuckles]

Ah, you know,

I had the biggest crush

on him freshman year.

[chuckles] Yeah, we knew.

[laughs] Oh, my God, what?

It was kind of obvious.

Okay, well,

what I was going to say is

that I knew

it would never work out

because he was

too dumb to notice

he was in love with you.

[chuckles] Yeah.

Well, I'm really glad

to see you two found your way.

-Me too.

-[Courtney chuckles]

So, what's next?

What do you mean?

Like, should I start shopping

for a wedding gift

or a housewarming gift?

-What?

-[Courtney scoffs]

I mean, y'all are

obviously meant to be.

But we just graduated.

Yeah, but, like, why wait?

You got a good one.

I'm just not in any rush.

Hmm. I get that.

Yeah, like, get

your degree first, find a job.

Honestly, that's probably what

Robbie and I are going to do.

We wanted to have it next year,

but the kind of wedding I want?

Better wait till after college.

You have all that planned out?

Girl, I've had the sh*t planned

since I could write.

Oh, come on.

You've never planned

your wedding as a kid?

Okay, well, yeah,

but because that's what

they taught us to care about.

What, so you think

you're too cool

for a wedding now?

No, it's just--

you can see the bullshit

that was ingrained into us.

Bullshit?

Well, the fact that we were six

talking about our weddings.

I mean, nobody asked JJ

what type of tux

he wanted to wear

or how many kids he wanted.

That mash game

that literally had us planning

every single detail

of our adult life.

That's what

we used to do as fun.

Life isn't meant to be

all figured out.

I mean, seriously, all I hear

from the adults in this town is

how much they miss being a kid,

but then, like,

they don't even let us do that.

It's like, "Hey,

have fun while you're at it,

but also know

what you want to be,

where you want to live,

I mean, who you're gonna marry,

I guess

start saving for a retirement."

Sam, Sam, Sam. Okay, I get it.

It's just all f*cking bullshit.

All right, um,

so what's next?

What are you gonna do?

What do you mean?

With JJ?

I mean, is this

like a summer fling or...

is it more than that?

I-- I just assumed

that you weren't going

to California, but...

are you still thinking about it?

I just haven't

really made a choice yet.

-[Robbie] Oh!

-[JJ laughs]

What does JJ

think about all that?

[Robbie] Well,

hey there, pretty lady.

Hello.

Ew, you smell

like beer. [laughs]

Hey, did you know

that Robbie's family has

a big-a*s house in Put-in-Bay?

We should go there for, uh,

Christmas in July next summer.

They're pretty hardcore

on IDs up there.

Okay, well then, in three years.

I mean,

it's not that far, right?

Okay, that's fine.

[indistinct shouting]

[JJ chuckles]

[somber music playing]

[door clicks open]

Hey, do you have a sec?

Sure, yeah, of course.

How do you know

what will make you happy?

Oh, you don't.

You just make a choice.

How do you do that?

Is this about JJ?

I just...

I wish there wasn't

all this pressure to know.

I mean, I just--

I don't know. [laughs]

Hmm.

-I love him.

-[Renee chuckles]

I think I always have.

I mean, maybe it is smart

to get my degree here.

It's basically free college

and, you know,

it's only four years.

California's not going anywhere.

That's true.

Then there's you.

I know, I know,

you don't want me to worry,

but I-- I can't help it.

[chuckles]

Sweetie, it's okay.

You come

from a long line of warriors.

[Sam laughs]

You can love me from California.

You can love me

from the-- the-- the-- the moon.

It doesn't matter where you are.

But what would

really piss me off

if I thought that you weren't

going after what you want

because of me or dad...

or anyone.

You know, when I first knew

you were going to leave me...

you were three years old

and you threw

a 90 minute tantrum

because I wouldn't

let you drive the Camry.

-[Sam laughs]

-Uh-huh. [laughs]

God, I had never met

a more independent person,

let alone a toddler.

You wouldn't let me do

anything for you.

It was always, "No, my do.

My do."

Totally freaked your dad out.

But I remember thinking,

"I do not have to worry

about this girl.

It is the world

that's going to have to worry

because no one is going

to make her do anything

that she doesn't want to do."

[Sam chuckles]

I know that right now,

everything feels

so huge and life changing.

But if there's one thing

that I'm certain of...

you're going to find your way.

Oh.

[both sighing]

Did you smoke?

Okay, can I be the mom

for five minutes?

-Okay. Good.

-[laughs] Fine.

Being the mom. Thank you.

[crickets chirping]

[engine humming]

Sam, I am so sorry.

I was just finishing

things for tonight

and I-- I completely

lost track of time.

Time management

has never been your strong suit.

Yeah, that's me.

Come on, adventure awaits.

Did you really just say that?

Well, I mean, yeah, it does.

It is. I don't know.

Shut up.

-So where are we going?

-It's kind of a surprise.

Is that so?

Yeah, but, uh, in order

to keep it a surprise,

you're going

to have to wear this.

Seriously?

Well, yeah,

I know it's kind of weird,

but, you know,

trust me, if you don't wear it,

it's going

to completely ruin it.

This better be

one hell of a surprise.

[JJ laughs]

-How do I look?

-Oh, never better. [chuckles]

Hey, I promise,

you're going to love it.

Okay, just a few more steps.

We're almost there.

-Can I take this thing off yet?

-No, you can't.

No, yeah, just be

a little patient, all right?

All right. Are you ready?

-Mm-hmm.

-You sure you're ready?

-Yes.

-Okay, okay.

Three, two, one.

Wait, what--

what are we doing here?

Well, I know

how much you love this place,

so I thought I'd look into it.

And apparently

the guy that owns it

is, like,

some super wealthy rich dude

who bought it for tax purposes,

and he's barely ever here.

And funny enough, my, uh--

my dad's company

manages the property.

You want to see inside?

Yes.

[Sam chuckles]

Wow.

[JJ] Oh, oh, hang on, hang on.

You've got to see this place.

Come on, come on.

Swenson's?

I couldn't think

of a more romantic place.

So this is why you were late?

Poor time management skills.

To a hell of a surprise.

["Era of Apocalypse"

by Sea Elephant playing]

I never thought

we'd have to run

Responsible

for some and none

Anxious

'till it all unravels

[both laughing]

I have one question.

Am I a better dancer

than Freddie?

-Jesus Christ.

-Look, it's a serious question.

I love you.

I love you, too.

To disappear

Now who said

it's gotta be easy

And who said

it's gonna be hard

So take the path

of least resistance

And then see who you are

Thank you.

For tonight.

-You really liked it?

-[Sam chuckles]

[JJ chuckles]

Who knows?

Maybe one day

I could get the guy to sell it.

You think he would?

I mean, he doesn't seem

that attached to it.

And I can be very convincing.

As you know.

[JJ chuckles]

I mean, God,

don't you ever feel like

everything we do

and everything we've

been taught

is just to service the future?

Yeah, I know,

it's like, it's all

preparation.

Right, but what are we

preparing ourselves for?

Death.

-[Tony] Life of the party.

-[Mike] It's true.

I'm going to make some popcorn.

Do you want anything to drink?

Uh, yeah.

Whatever you've got is good.

[Cynthia] ...die anyway,

shouldn't we be

enjoying ourselves now?

You know, I'd like to quit

thinking of the present,

like right now, as

some minor...

Oh, hey,

you want me to pause it?

[Sam] Yeah, sure.

[microwave beeping]

Guess who your dad

just got off the phone with.

-Who?

-His old frat brother, Steve.

Uh, I don't think

you've met him.

He is hilarious.

So they are out

near Santa Barbara

and their daughter is in NYU.

They have a room for you.

You know,

until you get a side job,

get on your feet.

It's really nice of them.

Okay.

-What's going on?

-Nothing.

-That's really great.

-Sam, put down the pop.

Look at me, please.

You haven't told him yet,

have you?

I just--

I haven't made a decision yet.

Wait, what?

Isn't the deadline,

I don't know, right now?

Soon. Yeah.

[Renee] And you do know

that not making a decision,

well, that's--

that's still making a decision.

Right? You know that.

I know. I'm going to.

Okay, I know that you don't

want to hurt his feelings,

but if he's your best friend,

he should want

what's best for you, right?

Just why do I have

to decide all of this now?

Because if you keep kicking

things down the road in life,

it just gets worse, trust me.

I'm sorry, I don't mean

to burst your bubble,

but I know you.

And I think you've already

made your decision.

[popcorn popping]

[microwave beeping]

[Sam sighs]

I know

you want to stay

in this moment...

and that's okay.

You should be enjoying yourself.

You deserve it.

But it's my job

to make sure

you're thinking about future you

so that she gets

the life that she deserves.

-Oh, sh*t, I forgot the drinks.

-Uh, it's-- it's okay.

-No, uh, I'll just go get them.

-Seriously, it's fine.

[man] ...this car needs

is some good ol' worthwhile

visceral experience.

Remember to eat

a green thing every day...

and have lots of calcium.

It's very important

for young mothers

to have lots of calcium.

[dramatic music playing]

[Sam] So, the last adventure

on the list, huh?

That was it.

So, what do we do next?

Sam, why are you

still lying to me?

What are you talking about?

I know that you're still

thinking about leaving.

I thought

you denied that internship.

But, you know, now I realize

that we never talked about it,

so maybe that's on me.

-JJ, I'm so sorry.

-But you-- I just...

We've been best friends

for over ten years

and we have never

kept secrets from each other

and you've kept this

from me twice now.

And, look...

I'm not mad...

because I-- I-- you know, I get

that you've been

going through a lot, but...

Yeah, no, actually,

I don't-- I don't get it.

I don't get it.

Why didn't you just tell me?

I wanted to.

I just--

I just didn't know how or what.

I mean, I haven't made a choice.

Why wouldn't you just tell me

that you're still deciding?

How am I supposed

to tell you that?

I didn't want to hurt you

and we were just--

we were having so much fun.

Fun? Was this just fun for you?

No. No, I love this.

-I do, but--

-But what?

You just--

you don't see both sides.

You just keep trying

to convince me to stay.

What?

Do-- do you not want to stay?

I-- I-- I don't know.

[scoffs]

All right, well,

then what do you want, Sam?

-I'm trying to figure that out.

-What is there to figure out?

Either you want this

or you don't.

-It's not that easy.

-It is for me.

Because I want you.

I want a life here with you.

And that is a very easy

decision for me to make

-because I love you, Sam.

-I love you.

It's hard for me to believe when

you don't even want to stay.

It's not that I don't want that.

Then what is it?

Because clearly, whatever it is

that we've been doing here

is very different

than what I thought it was.

-That's not true.

-Just-- Okay, are...

are you going or not?

I-- I don't know.

[scoffs] Well, you should.

You need to make a choice

because I would really

love it for you to know

because my entire life

is set up here

and I want you

to be a part of that life.

But if you're not going to be,

well, then--

well, that changes things.

And so--

so if you're leaving, just--

I just don't know.

What don't you know, Sam?

What is it? Is it...

Is it something I'm doing?

Is it me?

No, you've been great.

It's not just about you.

You made this place

better for me

and I thought that

I made it better for you, too.

But if you-- if you don't want

to be here, then fine.

Of course you want to be here.

I mean, you have

your whole life figured out.

Okay, maybe I didn't

grow up like you

and I don't have

all my life set up,

but that doesn't mean I'm not

thinking about my future.

Okay, so I don't know

exactly what I want,

but that doesn't mean

it doesn't matter.

I never said it didn't.

You know,

relationships don't work

if only one person

is making sacrifices.

What are you talking about?

You never once offered

to go to California with me.

Did it even cross your mind?

-It's different.

-No, it's not.

Okay, look, Sam.

My family is here.

My career. My whole future.

Yeah. Your future.

What do-- what do you--

what do you mean?

Because you've lived here

your whole life.

You can have a future here.

I can,

but not the one that I want.

I mean, if I don't go out there

and find it for myself,

I'm only ever going to be

who I am in this town

when I know

I can be so much more.

So that's it, then?

You made your choice?

We're done? [Sam sobs]

I don't...

Why do we have

to decide this now, okay?

I mean, I wouldn't have to go

for a few more weeks.

Because I can't pretend

like everything is okay

and that we're moving

in a direction that we're not.

Isn't that more of a reason

to make every second count?

Sam, I'm...

I'm sorry. I just, uh...

-But I--

-JJ.

JJ, please.

If you--

if you decide to stay,

just let me know.

[somber music playing]

[sobs]

["Was I Right?"

By The Rosies playing]

How'd you like

to do the honors?

Well, I'll do my best.

[both laughing]

[sighs]

I'm sleeping, I'm down

I'm dreaming

that I came to talk to you

Yeah, I came to talk to you

And now I'm seeing

That in believing

Yeah, it's all

that I can do

Yeah, it's all

that I can do

Oh

I wanna know

Was it the right

thing to do

Was it

the wrong thing for you

Drive slow

I'll let it go

But I wouldn't let you

I wouldn't let you, oh

Was it the right

thing to do

Or the wrong thing

to say, babe

[laughs] All right,

nice going, slugger.

That's how you do it.

Look at that,

it's like a whole new you.

See, your old man

still knows a few things.

Yeah, a few.

[laughs] Smartass.

No, but seriously.

When things start

moving too fast,

you take a step back...

[inhales deeply] ...breathe,

and do whatever

the hell you wanna do.

-[both chuckling]

-I guess.

So what do you wanna do?

California?

Yeah?

But everyone

just keeps telling me that--

Don't worry about

what everyone keeps telling you.

You could spend your whole life

doing what everyone else

tells you to do

and still end up

working in a batting cage.

Hey, I like the batting cage.

[laughs] Me too, kid.

I just don't want you

to look back on your life

and waste time thinking,

"What if I had done

things differently?"

You know?

And if that

takes you to California,

well then so be it.

Grabbing life by the ba*ls.

[laughs] You know?

And that doesn't mean

it's gonna be easy.

But we weren't put

on this earth to settle.

[Sam chuckles]

-What?

-Nothing.

I was just

thinking the same thing.

Your mom and I are

really proud of you,

whatever you decide to do.

Just don't half-a*s it.

-Thanks, Dad.

-You're welcome.

So you ready to get your butt

kicked by this old man?

I've been working on my swing.

I think I got you this time.

Oh, yeah?

Let's see what you got.

-Okay.

-[both laughing]

[keyboard clacking]

[chuckles]

[phone ringing]

[automatic voice] At the tone

please record your message.

[phone beeping]

Hey.

Um, I just wanted

to let you know

I officially

accepted the internship.

It feels right.

I'd really like to see you

before I leave, though.

I miss you.

Like, a lot.

You know, I've actually

been thinking about it,

and Ohio is

not so bad after all.

[chuckles]

I can't believe I'm saying that.

I guess

it just took the right person

to get me to see it.

Um, you know, I actually--

I found some more

of our mix CDs,

and I don't know

why we ever put those away.

Our taste in music was so good.

I mean, do you remember when--

[phone beeping]

[sighs]

[chuckles]

["Winding Road"

by Bonnie Somerville playing]

And I can see

California sun in your hair

[Sam] For the past year,

all anyone can talk about is

what's next,

what's your plan,

make a choice.

And now that I have, I realize

no answer will be good enough.

I don't know

if writing is what I want to do

for the rest of my life,

but it's what I want right now,

and that's good enough for me.

It's a long way home

[Renee] Okay,

I'm thinking all the apps.

I'm thinking potato skins.

I'm thinking

spinach artichoke dip.

Sam.

Still nothing?

Um, how about just one...

drink to celebrate?

Really? Okay.

What I should really do

is teach her

how to roll a big fat joint.

Well, wha-- it's-- it's legal

where she's going.

Just ignore your father, please.

I need to make sure my daughter

knows how to party, okay?

We need to be

getting calls from the police,

not lame parents telling us

that she TP'd their house.

-No one schools you, Dad.

-[Rick] Damn straight.

-[laughs] Don't feed his ego.

-[Sam chuckles]

-Let's give it to her now.

-What?

I thought we were gonna wait

till the pancake.

Uh, okay,

what are we talking about?

Your mom and I want

to give you something.

We know

we haven't always been able

to give you the life

that we wanted to.

-But we wanted--

-Hey, stop, Dad.

No, no, it's true.

We wanted more for you.

Trips to Disney,

the picket fence, your own car.

I didn't need all that.

Well, we know

that it won't get you

very far in California,

but hopefully...

it'll get you a start.

-How did you even get--

-Don't worry about it.

[Sam] Uh...

okay, no, no,

seriously, I'll be fine.

I've saved up money

from Swenson's and--

[Renee] Sam.

You're taking it.

Thank you.

-We're so proud of you.

-Okay, Mom, come on.

So about that drink,

I'm thinking whiskey.

[laughs] Yes. That's my girl.

Oh. I'm also thinking whiskey.

[laughs] Yes. That's my girl.

Okay, gross, come on,

guys, we're in public.

-What, a kiss?

-[Sam] Yes.

-That's PG.

-Too far, still.

Okay, well, guess what?

Your parents have been rated R.

-[Sam] Okay, no.

-Yeah. That's how you got here.

[Sam] No,

you guys don't do that, no.

Cheer up, buttercup.

Is it because

Sam is leaving tomorrow?

Well, go tell her goodbye.

Isn't that what you want to do?

No, it's--

it's too late for all that.

No, it's not.

She leaves tomorrow.

Look.

If there's anything I've learned

from my 11 breakups with Robbie,

it's that things aren't always

as complicated as we make it.

Okay, so just, you know,

go say you're sorry.

Ooh, you know, this actually

reminds me of freshman year.

[grunts] I kept

on breaking up with Robbie

because he kept on lying to me

about the stupidest things,

like he'd say he was showering

when he was actually napping,

and I'd be like,

"What the hell?"

And then I realized he was lying

because he was afraid

of how I would react.

I don't think my reactions

are crazy or anything,

-but it's like--

-Wait, Courtney.

Right. Um, look.

All I'm trying to say is,

have you ever thought about

why Sam felt like

she couldn't tell you?

I'm not saying

that she's in the right, but...

there must have been a reason

why she felt like

she had to hide it.

[Robbie] Babe! The pomeranian!

Oh, coming, babe! [chuckles]q

Look, that's just my two cents.

Take it or leave it.

But either cheer up or...

go do something about it.

[heartfelt music playing]

There's still time.

Wanna stop and say goodbye?

["Ohio"

by Damien Jurado playing]

Out from my window

"How far is Ohio?"

She laughed

and pointed out east

She said, "I grew up there

with my dear mother

And I haven't seen her

since 13

See you sometime

See you sometime

Mm

See you sometime

[engine humming]

-I can get it.

-Hey, hey, hey!

Letting me be the mom,

I'm not going to save

for the last time.

-Thank you.

-Come on.

Let me park and walk you in.

I got it.

You're right, I'm probably

going to be pretty embarrassing.

[Sam laughs] Yeah.

[Sam sighs]

[Sam breathing heavily]

How do I know

this is the right choice?

Do I feel really scared?

Yeah.

Then it's the right choice.

Oh, sh*t,

where did I put my ticket?

Oh, God.

-Never mind, I got it, I got it.

-Okay.

Well...

I'll text you when I get in?

Yeah.

sh*t, I've been rehearsing this

for 18 years and now I...

Don't text, just call me, okay?

Oh, I will.

[Renee sniffles]

[Renee sighs]

[somber music playing]

[chuckles]

Well, I guess this is it.

I've imagined this day

for as long as I can remember.

But it was never like this.

[announcer over PA] Now boarding

flight 1468 to Santa Barbara.

[JJ] Sam!

[joyful music playing]

How did you get in?

I-- I-- I bought

a ticket to Cincinnati.

[both laughing]

I stopped by your house

to say goodbye.

I heard, I-- I--

I was out getting this.

I'm sorry it's not wrapped.

I had to go all the way

to Columbus just to find it.

Apparently

I'm not the only Ohioan

who doesn't care

about California.

-I'm sorry.

-I'm sorry.

-No, no, really, I-- I am--

-It's okay, I-- I know.

[announcer over PA]

Final boarding flight 1468.

That's me.

Of course it is.

California has no idea

what's coming.

[Sam chuckles]

And Ohio doesn't know

how lucky they have it.

O-H?

I-O.

I always thought

my story would start

once I got out of this place.

But Ohio has given me so much.

Love, friendship, adventure,

and a life full of memories.

But I guess

every great chapter has to end

for the next one to begin.

Man...

I can't wait

to see what happens next.

[indistinct lyrics]

[indistinct lyrics]

[indistinct lyrics]

For the first time

in a long time

I feel so alive

Gotta emember

to close my eyes

I put my headphones in,

let the music playing

As I make my escape

[indistinct lyrics]

I've got memories to make

I know that it's too late

[indistinct lyrics]

[indistinct lyrics]

[indistinct lyrics]

[indistinct lyrics]

Escape

[indistinct lyrics]

I've got memories

I'm here to there

to everywhere

So many faces,

so many places

Escape

I'm not ready to go back

My escape

[indistinct lyrics]

I've got memories

I'm here to there

to everywhere

[indistinct lyrics]

[indistinct lyrics]

I'm not ready to go back

I'm not ready to go back

Don't make me go back

[heartfelt music playing]
