-[all] True story…

-[Frank] …of seven strangers…
-[Trishelle] …picked to live in a casino…

[Alton] …work together
and have their lives taped…

[Brynn] …to find out what happens…

[Steven] …when people stop
being polite…

[Irulan] …and start getting real.

[all] The Real World: Las Vegas.

-[Arissa] Baby, yeah!
-[all laughing]

[upbeat music playing]

[John] What a dump.

John is my best friend from back home.

-Oh, the pleasure wipes?
-[both laugh]

What is a pleasure wipe?
Whatever it is, I want one.

[Steven] I've known John
for about five years, we're really close.

-You only get 25, though.
-He's g*y.

[tense music playing]

[Steven] It irritates me
that Alton's h*m*.

He doesn't like g*y people.

He thinks it's, like,
really, really wrong.

-[chuckles] The hell you doing here?
-[John] What the hell?

[Steven] I think that meeting John
will be the best thing

for Alton because he'll see g*y people
for what they are, which is just people,

and being g*y or straight

has really little to do
with your personality.

[Steven] This looks familiar?

I absolutely think
Trishelle has feelings for Steven.

[John] So, it's not all about sex, huh?

No, honestly I would like
to meet somebody who I could date.

[Steven] Trishelle is searching
for a guy in Vegas.

I am not gonna be
Trishelle's guy in Vegas.

I will be the guy that Trishelle
hooks up with occasionally in Vegas.

[Steven] There aren't very many girls
hotter than Trishelle.

It takes away my drive
to go out and get another girl.

I come home every night
and I see you guys…

Every time they're-- Trishelle's like,
"I just want to hang out with you."

And the next thing you know,

and Trishelle hang out,

and it makes me feel
like they're evolving into something.

But Steven talks to me all the time
about how he doesn't have feelings for her

and he just wants to sleep with her.

[indistinct chatter]

You know, I'm not saying, like,
"Get away from me. You're g*y."

I'm just not used to it.

I think John was already cool.

When you told me
that he was g*y, I was like,

-"Are you serious?"
-Yeah.

[Alton] He's g*y? Like, whoa.

'Cause I thought he was just,
like, hella [bleep] cool. I didn't even--

-He is hella [bleep] cool.
-[Alton] Yeah, he is,

but I've never been in that situation.
It's-- To me, it's just really weird.

It's like, yo, is he gonna, like,
is he-- He's bigger than I am.

Is he gonna try to, like,
you know, rush me in the bathroom

-[Steven] g*y men are not animals.

I know that.
I'm not saying they're animals.

But I just know that,
hey, there's crazy people

from all around the world.

Like you said, there's crazy people
from all different areas.

[Irulan] But in the same way that, like,

men who are g*y
are not attracted to all men.

And it's not like,
"I'm g*y, I'm gonna rush you, like…"

[Alton] There is a certain fear,
like, lack of knowledge that I have,

'cause I don't put myself around that.
I don't know. It's just not my thing.

[Irulan] And you got to know
being a Black man

in this country,
you do not want to be judged by,

-you know…
-[Steven] Exactly.

-[Alton] By my skin?
-…superficial [bleep].

[Alton] But the thing is, I am,
regardless-- The fact is--

-[Steven] I know!
-But it's not right.

[Alton] And it doesn't make it right.

You know what happens when you eliminate
a whole group of people based on,

like, their sexual preference?

You miss out on
a lot of really great people.

I mean, John is my best friend.
He is my best friend, and he's g*y.

If I was put in a situation
where I was around g*y people,

if I had one g*y friend,

then it probably would be
in my realm of possibility.

Right now when I-- When it does come
into my head that a person's g*y,

it kind of trips me out.

[tense music playing]

Alton really doesn't have
a lot of experience

being around g*y people.

And I don't think
that he's a prejudiced person

or a hateful person.

He just hasn't had that experience.

[Irulan] Steven and I were having
a g*y talk with Alton yesterday.

-[Brynn] Really?
-[Irulan] Yeah.

[Irulan] I was kind of glad
that you weren't there.

-[Brynn] What do you mean?
-Brynn's dad is g*y.

When people make comments, g*y comments,

any kind of comments
that are degrading to another person,

I don't handle it very well.

I can come off
as a big b*tch right then and there.

[tense music playing]

[Brynn] The thing that we need
to talk about

is how you feel about g*y people.

What did Steven call it?

-Mm-hmm, scared of g*y people.
-[Alton] Scared of-- Yeah.

I'm just scared of that whole culture, yo.

Honestly, when I came out here,

I didn't know whether to say
that I hated them,

but I hated the thought of them.

[Brynn] The thought of them?

That was exactly how I'd say it.

I hated the thought of them.

Them people that aren't human,
that aren't like me.

If it is a case of something
that has happened to Alton

when he was younger
why he is h*m*, I would understand.

But if it's just
because he just is not comfortable,

like, I don't agree with that.

I was six years old,
walking over to my grandma's house,

and I see an old man sitting there.
He's standing there by hisself.

When I was younger, I almost got molested.

He ends up grabbing me
by the back of my neck,

and, like, he puts me down
to the ground and stuff

and then rips my pants
and, you know, all that--

And I just start screaming.

I ended up getting away
before he really, you know,

but, you know,
he kicks my a*s and stuff.

It's not easy, you know, opening up.

[Alton] Back to the g*y people thing…

I'd stand in line
my whole high school career,

just to let you know
how far that stressed, like,

'cause I couldn't handle
having people behind me.

I could not be
in a public bathroom and not, like,

freak out and be like,

"Yo, who's this guy walking in,
who's this guy bigger than me?"

You know what I mean? It freaked me out.

I feel the potential to be threatened
is definitely prevalent with g*y men.

Though they may be g*y,
they like other men,

doesn't mean they're not men
and they're still strong as a man.

If you were r*ped
by three Black guys, you'd probably

be scared when you see a group
of Black guys coming up to you.

[tense music playing]

[Brynn] I mean, I was actually r*ped once.

No way.

And it just so happened
to be somebody of a different background.

-I'm sorry, man.
-And I'm not r*cist against anybody.

That doesn't make me hate
anyone any more than anyone else.

[mid-tempo music playing]

[Alton] Hearing other people
going through a similar situation

definitely pulled things out of me
that I haven't

expressed in many, many years.

With me at least,
a lot of negative reinforcement, you know?

That's gonna be with me
for the rest of my life, like…

I'm trying to have a conversation
with these sorority girls.

I'm just, like, starved for conversation
with people who isn't a roommate.

with a roommate,

a boyfriend-girlfriend type relationship.

-You think she has feelings for you?

I actually met a girl
that I was gonna actually go out

on a date with, and now it's like,
no, there's no dice, no dice.

[Frank] So, wouldn't you say
the best thing is just to cut it off

[Steven] Us messing around
was the worst idea in the whole world.

[Trishelle] It's fine.

I didn't say
that we shouldn't do this before

because I thought
that we could both, like, handle this.

-that I can't?

I'm just saying
we shouldn't mess around anymore.

We should just be friends, okay?

[Trishelle] I'm a very prideful person,

and I'm not about wanting
to make myself look stupid.

The moment I see myself about to get hurt,
I will totally pull back.

[Steven] I was just talking
to those girls.

Honestly, I had no intentions
of hooking up.

[Trishelle] So because of that,
we can't hook up anymore.

I think you're a wonderful girl.

Trishelle and Steven baffle me.
It's pretty silly in this day and age

to put yourself
in a position where you're sleeping

with somebody without a condom.

Does she have birth control,

Tonight we have to promote
for Steve Madden at the Ghostbar.

We are having some shoes on display
and setting up this little boutique.

[indistinct chatter]

This guy starts talking to Steven,
pours us both glasses of wine.

[man] Oh, yeah?

We're laughing and stuff,
but then all of a sudden out of nowhere…

Grabbed on my ba*ls right now.

…he goes and he grabs my crotch.

-Do I hit him?
-[Steven] Walk away, dude. Go on.

Alton turns to me and says,
"He just grabbed my [bleep]."

And I was like, "Let's just walk away
from this, so nothing stupid happens."

I wanted to knock him out right now.

I don't think all g*y men would do that.
I just feel completely violated.

Steven wants to try to talk me down,

but I don't feel like talking.

-Stay away from them.
-Hey, no, he grabbed my…

I'm just gonna just…

I would expect Alton to,

That's pretty impressive that he did that.

[John] You've never known a g*y guy
or had g*y friends?

I've had one experience
in somebody that cast me in a play,

but he died of A*DS, you know?

So it wasn't like I was able to…
[clears throat]

…build a rapport with him
or have a real conversation with him.

[John] That didn't make you empathetic?

[Alton] I have to say
I was more afraid than sad.

My brother was m*rder*d,
and I was afraid from his--

From my experience with that,
you know, just things being,

you know,
quickly "tooken" out of your life.

And this, if anything,
was just more reaffirmation.

I wasn't able to,
you know, logically put it into place,

like, maybe more afraid
to get close to somebody

than lose that person, if anything.

-[John] Afraid of, like--

-[Alton] Or loss. Not even death. 'Cause--

-Or liking someone and losing him.
-[Alton] Exactly.

I love John. He's… he's a cool person.

For me to take the time
even just to listen to him at this point,

it's definitely helping me open up.

I've had experiences with me, you know,

being damn near close
to being molested by, you know…

-[John] Really?
-Oh, yeah.

I mean, but again, that's just a part

of me shaping--
It didn't have nothing to do

with somebody being g*y, just sick people.

I'm so glad that,
you know, I sat here and talked

because I thought you were a h*m*

You only fear what you don't know,

and I tend to be around people
that are just like me.

Coming to Vegas, I've just seen
so many different kinds of people.

where I just accept people

for what they are.

that you guys got pregnant.

while you guys were up here,

and, like, it was crazy.
It was, like, all crazy. It was so weird.

I mean, you were like,
and then it got all weird and, like--

-[Trishelle] You can tell me.
-You were, like,

two months pregnant in the house,
and you were just like,

"God, now I'm pregnant
and you ruined my life,"

-and all this weird stuff.
-[Trishelle chuckles]

-I was like, "Whoa."
-[Trishelle laughs]

She's having unprotected sex
with him all the time.

We're here for four months.

A baby's here forever.
Like, seriously, it's not a good deal.

[Trishelle]

I don't feel that I'm pregnant.
I think I know my body well enough.

But as each day comes
and I don't start my period,

I'm getting more and more worried.
