prodigy, five-time grammy winner,

and widely regarded as one of
the best voices of all time.

These four current grammy nominees
are back to continuthe phenomenon

that took America by storm.

What makes "The Voice" unique is that our backs are turned,

so the talent is based
solely on how they sound.

All I'm gonna do is listen.

It's a gut feeling that you just have
when you hear something that you love.

For the first time in my life, I'm going
to be judged strictly on my voice.

I want something that just
totally blows me away,

and I want to be chosen by it.

"The voice,"

unlike other reality shows, is a
perfect show for a real artist

because all the coaches are
on the charts right now.

I really do think I can
help you win this thing.

I really do.

I've been through so much in my own
career that it's my responsibility

to kind of give back.

You're the type of person that I
have been sitting here waiting for.

Last year recharged me and made me excited
about music again, because we found

the best of the best out there.

This season, we hit the road,
finding the best artists to

invite to the blind auditions.

And I had the pleasure
of personally surprising

some of them with an invitation.

Here's how it works.

during the blind auditions, to make it onto a team,

a coach must push a button.

Their chair turns around, and the
artist joins that coach's team.

But if more than one coach hits their
button, the power to choose shifts.

You have the power to choose.

Now it's up to the artist to decide which
coach they'd most like to work with.

Man, this is tough.

And the coaches must convince them...
Come on!

...that they're the best
person for the job.

I would give you all
my time and attention.

They'll use every trick they've got.

I've been doing this
since I was 4 years old.

Yeah, but I won last year.

I'm already irritated because I know
Adam is gonna say over and over again,

This year, we're upping the ante.

It's 12 as opposed to 8.

And now that the show's become a huge success...
The talent level

one artist who will win it all --

kind of lukewarm to it.

so I think my voice is different

for any of them to turn.

This is my dream, and it's in front of

dream of having a successful marriage

and career in the industry.

But being a musician, I
couldn't really provide the

lifestyle that the wife wanted.

And when she left, I was
an instant single dad.

We ended up homeless because I
just didn't have anywhere to go,

and that's how I pretty much
ended up sleeping in my car

with my daughter on my chest.

That was the toughest time of my life.

My brother moved in town,
stayed with him for a year.

I got on my feet, and I make my living
now by singing at churches and weddings

and wherever I'm needed.

all the others is that we begin with

the highest level of talent.

I was a background vocalist for Alicia
keys, and I've been able to open up

for her all around the world.

I just got done working with green
day on their "American idiot" show

on Broadway.

Whether they're touring
with grammy-winning artists

or gracing the Broadway stage,
the singers we've invited are

already a cut above the rest.

Our next artist, Chris mann, is ready to
put his years of training to the test.

I started studying classical
music when I was 15.

And then I decided to
make a life out of it.

I moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to major
in opera at Vanderbilt university.

I would love to win "The Voice"

for my mom.

Last year, mom had been diagnosed
with pancreatic cancer.

It was terrifying.

That's the same cancer that
took Steve jobs' life.

And I tried to pack it up to go
home, but she would not hear it.

It was almost like she's at home fighting
for her health and for her life,

and she wanted me to stay
and fight for my dream.

The last year has been rough.

Chris has been understandably very
upset, but Chris has an amazingly

beautiful singing voice, and
it's an amazing opportunity.

And as a parent, we want all of those
things to happen for our children.

I know that I have to sing
like I've never sung before.

And the song I'm singing is not easy,
and I've definitely thought about that.

But this is what I've been waiting for.

I just hope I can grab
onto that opportunity.

When I was 14, I auditioned for
"the Mickey mouse club" in Detroit,

and I got it.

To this day, people still come up
to me and say, "I used to watch you

on 'the Mickey mouse club.'"

it means so much.

So, you've been onstage
with Christina before.

I have.

As a mouseketeer on "the
Mickey mouse club,"

I got a chance to perform with Christina,
Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake.

If your old pal Christina turns her
chair around, would she recognize you

from back in the day?

I don't know if she
would know his voice.

But she would know his look.

I might sound familiar, but I don't
think she'd be like, "oh, my God.

I know who that is."

After "the Mickey mouse club" was canceled,
a good handful of kids obviously

went on to pursue pop stardom.

I decided to kind of jump in the truck
and take my guitar and started playing

smaller clubs.

And, you know, after a while,
you sort of reach a ceiling,

and always kind of in search
of that next big break.
