awesome looks like magic huh well this

trick is really easy to do at home Cassy

be of bplan Iowa sent us the

instructions all you need is some liquid

soap the kind you wash your dishes with

some pepper and a bowl of water oh yeah

and if you're going to do it more than

once then use a clean bowl of water okay

first sprinkle some pepper into the boat

of

water sprinkle sprinkle

sprinkle

now put a little bit of liquid soap on

your finger just a little bit like a

drop

careful there about maybe a little less

than this now lightly touch the top of

the water now Watch What Happens

cool well here's the science scoop

there's a force between the water

particles that holds the surface

together almost like skin this force is

called surface tension the water

particles pull on each other and the

pepper in all

directions but the so particles makes

this Force weaker on this side and so

the water pulls on the pepper to the

other side if it's true that the soap is

what makes the pepper PE move then

nothing should happen if I touch the

water with no soap on my finger let's

try

ever since I was really young horses

have been my passion and riding cool as

a dream come true I feel like I have a

special connection with

him one of the things that I like to do

to keep him relaxed and sing to him

actually I like to sing to him just

about all the time

hold on I'm getting cool ready for a

horse show tomorrow I'll be competing

with other riders in a bunch of

different events I want cool to look

beautiful so I'm going to give him a

bath I think he likes to be washed in

the summer because it cools them off

after I've

read and I use this regular shampoo that

humans would

yeah I braid his tail so that it won't

get dust in it and it won't get tangled

and so that it'll look pretty

tomorrow all right big boy we have a a

big show today and I know that you do

real well

because I enjoy riding with other kids

we're judged on our form and style and

how well we keep our horses under

control can your horses

please we're cancering our hor right now

which is faster than a trot but slower

than a

Gallop when I'm approaching a jump I

need to keep my head up in order to keep

my

balance if I don't I might fall

off for

Andrea although I like to repat my

favorite thing about riding is just

spending time with my cool

Laura F of Flushing New York asked us to

use these eight strips of cardboard to

do lots of different puzzles our longest

strip is 8 in long and all the other

strips are 1 in smaller than the next so

we have a seven a six a five a four a

three a two and a 1 in strip for our

first challenge we'll have to all eight

of our strips to make two equal rows all

right so using all of the strips that we

have we have to make two equal rows yep

so that means each row would look like a

long rectangle right yeah all right so

how going to do this

um well we can use math to figure out

how many strips should be need throw oh

yeah when I just add the number of all

the inches together so we know exactly

how many inches we have in all the stret

all right so 7 + 8 is 15 + 5 is 20 + 10

6 and four that's 30 then 2 + 1 is 3 + 2

is 6 so we have 36 36 could we can cut

that in half right 18 + 18 is 3 yeah

since 8 + 7 is 15 we can make 18 but you

the 15 + 3 15 + 3 is 18 now these should

add up to 18 yeah let's + 4 is 10 15 16

17 18 so it works yeah so if we have

just like that's two that's two equal

rows yep so figure that one out let's

see if we can do it with three equal

rows three equal rows yeah three equal

rows using every one of the strips okay

I'm just going to mix around the

different pieces right now just see if

find

get something while trying to mix them

around these two are equal yeah they are

they're all 12 it's for SW yeah let's do

this try you did a buzz the first I was

just mixing around that that's that's

awesome 8 + 4 = 12 12 7 + 5 12 6 + 3 9 +

challenges yeah we have one more

challenge using all eight strips we have

to make a

staircase what that is yeah staircase

what that is all the strips I use this

hand you have to make it make all the

strips look like

this wow yeah but we have to follow a

certain pattern though you have to use

each each little strip each step step it

has to be one less inch than the one

below it so let's just say I'll make one

here let's say if this

was 13 in this this would have to be 12

this one would have to be 11 want to try

to do it sure want to try to do your

idea of 13 12 and 11 I don't think we'll

be able to do that well 13 + 13

equal oh no yeah 26 I don't think we I

don't think that would be the exact yeah

equals figure it out

so how are we going to do this let's

just try to put the eight on the bottom

row because it's the biggest and the

bottom row has to be the biggest all

right okay so we have an eight but what

if we

did maybe we can do

1098 yeah but would that use all well

we'll just have to figure out try it up

10 press 10 and then no it won't work it

won't hold them all six this is nine

that's n and this would be eight but no

we don't we don't have enough we can't

do that what if we

added what if we did 8 + 5 and that that

would be equals 13 13 13 so now we have

to make one that equals 12 so 7 8 9 10

is this eight 8 + 4 is 12 okay so now

it's six

+ three is 9 10 11 we did it we a good

job Eric that's exactly what you did up

here 11 12 oh my God this that's it's so

cool I didn't even realize I know you

would just guess yeah you can see as the

padding goes up 13 12 12 is 1 less than

13 then we have 12 to 11 11 is 1 less

than 12 oh cool good job

Cil the magic marker written and

Missouri Juan was a boy in the third

grade at Jefferson School everybody

expected Juan to be really great in

science because everyone else in his

family was good in science Juan's father

was a science teacher at the middle

school his mother worked at a lab in

town

his brother and sister always won first

place at the science fair but one was

terrible at science one day Juan's

teacher Mrs Rooney assigned him to draw

a tiger's habitat Juan knew nothing

about tigers and he didn't have any idea

how to start one was walking home from

school that day wondering what he was

going to do he didn't want to disappoint

his family suddenly he spotted a magic

marker although he didn't know it it was

really a magic marker that night at home

he started to do his homework and

something magical started to happen it

was as if the marker had a mind of its

own it seemed to be drawing all by

itself he drew a tiger in an African

rainforest he drew trees and other

plants in that habitat it usually took

him hours to do his work but he did it

in no time at all the next day at school

Juan still had to do the report to go

with his drawing he picked up the magic

marker and waited nothing happened one

accidentally dropped the marker and

Richard stepped on it it broke into

little tiny

bits get your pencil out and start

writing said Mrs Rooney so Juan got out

his pencil and started he was surprised

that he could remember things that he

had read yesterday in class he finished

at the end of the day the next day Mrs

Rooney gave out the scores oh boy Juan

thought when he got his score it was an

a 100% he didn't need the marker he did

it all by himself that night he showed

his family his score they were very

happy and proud of him the
