today on Zoom do you like puppets well

today I'm going to show you how to make

one you want to put about three layers

of paper maé all over your balloon feel

gooey I'm going to make a c marionette

last year I discovered that I can make

Marinette when things just lying around

morning welcome to zoom you know the

best games are usually the ones that you

make yourself like this first game we're

going to play called the scoop game

it's called a scoop game because you

play it with these homemade Scoops the

directions were sent in by Stephanie R

of Central City

Nebraska before you play you have to

make the Scoops to make the Scoops just

cut the bottoms off one gallon milk

jug you and a partner play catch using

the Scoops with a small Bean bagger ball

ready KY

mhm each time you or your partner catch

is the bean bag take a step back good

luck see how far apart you can get

without dropping the bean bag ready do

you want to

start okay ready hold on okay this will

time like both of you catch it don't

take a step right here just take a step

anything unless you know it's edible not

to give up on things you can't do not to

call people names because it would be

is math you shouldn't take things

way they look the most important thing

zoomo hello Zoomers do you like puppets

well today I'm going to show you how to

make one and then I'll started my own

puppet

show we'll get back to you

later I'm going to show the Zoomers how

to make puppets out of a balloon and

half a toilet paper

tube okay you'll also need some

newspaper strips flour and some water

for your paper mâché paints to decorate

your puppet once it's dried and some

fabric yarn and pipe cleaners to

decorate and to make the body of your

puppet here okay the first thing you

want to do is blow up your balloon and

tape the toilet paper tube to the bottom

of it like this with masking

tape now if you want to make any of the

features like the ears or the nose you

can crumple up some newspaper or cut

them out of

cardboard you want to tape them to your

balloon using masking

tape okay now you want to take 1 and 1/2

cups of flour

and 1 and 1/2 cup of water for your

paste for your

papier-mâché mix it up until it looks

like pancake

batter okay I think that's good maybe

use just a little oops just a little bit

more

water okay that's

perfect okay okay now you want

to dip a newspaper

strip into the

papier-mâché feels

gooey and you want to squeeze off some

extra mixture any extra

mixture

slimy then you want to lay it over your

balloon just like this make sure you

flatten it out

so there's no air underneath it

and there's no

bumps just like

that yeah you want to make sure your

newspaper strips slightly overlap each

other this is very gooey but

fun okay they should just overlap a

little

bit

perfect you want to put about three

layers of papier-mâché all over your

balloon and you might want to add some

extra layers with the balloon me the

toilet paper tube so you can make that

stronger let it dry for a few days oops

and when it's dry it'll turn white like

this

one then you want to pop your balloon

with a sharp

pencil and so so there's room for your

fingers yours might be already popped

mine

was now it's time to decorate you can

decorate it anywhere you want on this

one you can see that I painted his

face and I made some glasses out of pipe

cleaners and I made a body and wings out

of a piece of fabric and a coat

hanger then I attached a rod to his wing

so it will

move now your puppet's ready to perform

later I'll show you how to make a puppet

theater and the Zoomers will put on a

puppet show in today's Zoom

to me this is material to make my

favorite kind of art

project Mar an my name is Christine I'm

9 years old and I'm from smna Georgia

for a hand puppet you put your hand

inside his mouth to make his mouth move

but for a marionette it's like a hand

puppet on strings and just by moving the

strings we can make our whole body

move this is the first Marette I ever

got when I was 6 years old the thing

that's so fun about them is I can make

them dance and I like trying to make

them look like real people when they

move every time I go on vacation I try

to collect a marionette but last year I

discovered that I can make marionettes

and things just lying around the

house things like paper towel rolls and

egg cartons and Soup cans ideas for my

marionet can come from just about

anywhere I'm going to make a c

but to make it into a marionette I took

these sticks used for string paint at

the paint store and glued them together

like this then I punched holes in the

head the body and the feet and then a

string through it up to the pain sticks

and then you have a Marette that's ready

to

perform introducing pristin's

ooh hey Zoomers do you think you can

defy gravity well Erica R of Brooklyn

New York wants us to try she wants us to

see if we can carry a ball on a pitcher

but the trick is the pitcher has to be

upside down like

this it's best to use a plastic picture

for this challenge okay how are we going

to do this I don't know obious if you

put it in and just tip it upside down

it's going to fall over I know fall out

there

whoops so there has to be a way we can

keep it up

into this is hard cuz there no like

little thing that can like hook on it or

something what if we ran really fast

no that's not yeah that would

work you know like a hula hoop kind of

when like okay say I was moving it if

you keep spinning it'll stay on you

you'll stay in it well I just thought of

a really cool idea this picture is a

hula hoop and this is like me or you and

so it could be like this it could start

you could start going like

that like a hola and then after it

really starts to to twirl we can whoops

tip it upside down we can we can go like

this and it will still be swirling you

just have to keep going like this and

you can walk

around let's try it

okay wa I was doing it for a

second you really have to get it going

though like really spin it you

did how you

watch oh my gosh it works okay first I

have to do good job that was a good idea

job we thought it was pretty hard to get

the ball to stay in this pitchure but we

found that it worked really well with

this wide piture watch the

this the wide pitcher is easier than the

narrow pitcher because when I swirl it

the ball gets trapped in this wide space

and it's harder for it to fall out try

hey Caroline I have a challenge for you

see this index card M I've almost cut it

into three pieces see how the cuts only

go up to here I bet that you can't pull

on both sides of this index card and

make the middle part fall to the ground

that's easy I bet I can do

that

oh jeez that wasn't easy that was like

that's just

weird this was sent into us by Jake G of

Somerville Massachusetts and it works

this way for two reasons first it's

almost impossible for me to make two

cuts exactly even so the side Caroline

pulls on first will rip first and second

it's almost impossible for Caroline to

pull equally on both ends so the side

that she pulls on first or the one that

she pulls on with more Force but we're

at first here try it again all

right oh this is so weird Okay one two

three I don't understand why oh that's

so weird I wonder what would happen if

we used a different Siz piece of paper

let's try it out I think that the middle

piece will be heavier and pull down on

the sides and so when we rip off the two

sides it'll the middle piece will fall

right

down cut right

boat there it's almost right on the edge

but it's so weird because you try so

hard and it doesn't

work there we

go it looks easy but it's it's really

like impossible ready one two

cool I'll cut up one more

I'll leave the cuts bigger this time

it's kind of weird because I'm a lefty

and that time I what time did I pull

off think you pulled off oh yeah I

pulled off the or I might have yeah you

held it that way I held it this

way well I and I pulled off the right

side and you would have saw it that it

it I would have pulled off the left side

I use the left side TR it again okay

something different about the big sheet

of paper that makes it easier to pull

the ends off than the index card test it

out and send your discoveries to

show if you want to have a puppet show

at home all you need is a box have an

adult help you cut two flaps out of one

of the sides of a cardboard box then cut

another flap in the bottom so you can

stick your puppet through if you want

you can make a theater out of a table

and cut some scenery out of cardboard

like we did come on let's

today's Zoom puppet Playhouse today I'm

going to tell you a tale from long ago

come come hear the story of Stone

Soup once there was a Fox who was very

very hungry he trudged through the

forest with his

stomach growling I'm so hungry I'd do

almost anything for a decent meal

tonight

anything but the fox wasn't from this

forest and didn't know where to find the

best food so he set off through the

woods determined to beg or borrow his

meal but little did he know that the

animals in this Forest were very

distrustful of strangers well hello my

big and strong friend surely you have

some extra food for a tired old Fox like

me uh not I I have too many bear cups to

feed and he ambled past without looking

back so the fox kept on and soon met a

rabbit why hello my fur little friend

surely you have some extra your carrots

hiding behind those long ears of yours

uh not I I lost all of my carrots along

the way and she quickly hopped away the

fox was getting very frustrated but kept

on soon before long he met a group of

animals who were deep in conversation

did you hear about the butterflies and

the squirrel No happen surely one of

them would have some food why hello my

Forest

Friends surely one of you have some

extra food for a tired old

soul who is he I don't know I've never

seen him before just say no okay not us

we haven't even had our lunch today

sorry the fox was getting no closer to

dinner so he quickly came up with a Sly

plan well since nobody has any food I

got I'll just have to make my uh Stone

Soup Stone Soup how do you make that s

soup is that possible well of course it

is all I need is a pot some stones and

some water plus a fire to cook over this

will be a sight to see I'll fly over the

forest and get our friends to bring

everything you need M I'll go and the

blue jay flew

away and before the fox knew it the

animals had set up a pot to boil and

gathered a pile of stones the fox put

the stones into the pox and began to

stir this is

perfect though you know it would only be

a little bit better if maybe we had some

fish but I know no one here has any fish

right oh I can help there be right

back here you go oh thank you you're

welcome and of course to make it even

just a little tastier we could add some

carrots but again nobody has any carrots

handy do they well I think I can find a

few

somewhere here you go yippe wow thank

you but of course in order to be fed for

a king this soup would need need some

onions maybe some cabbage and maybe a

bit of

mushrooms we can help I'll get the onion

I'll get the mushrooms I'll get the

cage here go here you go thanks wow done

now everyone can have a

taste and the Animals gathered around to

try the delicious

soup see this is delicious and so the

animals

ate and

laugh and ate some

more it was a beast they would not soon

forget we will

not from that day forward they shared

willingly to all the strangers that came

to their Forest land after all if they

ran out of food they could always make

some St St
