Sorry, Dinah.

These cans will be gone tomorrow.

Pinniped has been reading
this book on Wonderland plants.

Your invisible friend likes books.

Oh, he loves them.

However, you can see
his lips move when he reads.

Now, let's see.

Oh! Here it is.

This plant is called
the Prickly Spotted Wonderweed.

Say, I think I've seen this plant before.

Didn't it used to grow in that field

where they built the Wonderland Mall?

Right. And in the valley
where the Wonderland Waterslide is now!

Listen!

"The Prickly Spotted Wonderweed
once grew in a few very special places,

but since they've all been destroyed,

the plant is now believed to be...

extinct."

-[gasping]
-Oh.

[sniffs]

Actually, it's completely odorless.

Not "stink."

"Extinct." It means
something isn't around anymore.

Like the dinosaur.

When a plant or animal becomes extinct,

none of them is left.

Then the book is wrong!

There is still one special place
where this plant can grow:

Right here.

-Right!
-Yeah!

That is, until we pave over it
to build the queen's new tennis court.

[groaning]

Wait! Maybe the queen
will move her tennis court.

After all, she's a reasonable woman.

The queen? Reasonable?

Pinniped and I will talk to her.

But, Your Majesty,

it's the very last
Prickly Spotted Wonderweed in Wonderland.

If you put your tennis court over it,

its kind will be extinct! Gone forever!

So what? It's a weed.

Weeds should be extinct. They take away
from the beauty of good plants.

Like my precious roses.

But it's not the same kind of common weed

that pops up in your rose garden.

It's a very rare plant.
A plant we almost never see.

If you don't change your mind,
no one will ever see one again.

Why is that bad? Is it beautiful?

No, it's not beautiful
in the classic sense.

Does it get pretty flowers?
Or tasty fruit?

Or grow tall enough
to sit under on a hot day?

No, not really.

-Then it's history.
-Oh!

It could be good for something
we don't even know about yet.

And even if it's not,
is it fair to just plow it under?

Hey!

Life's not fair.

And it's about time

Greetings, Walrus!

Pinniped.

Why so down in the dumps?

Haven't you heard?

The queens plans to build a tennis court

over the Prickly Spotted Wonderweed.

Is that a rare plant?

Oh, yes, indeed.

It's so rare it's the only one left.
Once it's gone,

Prickly Spotted Wonderweeds
will be extinct.

[gasps] Extinct!

Oh, that would be a shame.

Yes. But what's a walrus
and his invisible friend to do?

The queen has decided.

It's certainly not our job
to question her.

Don't you agree, Pinniped?

Hm. I think the two of you
should think again.

Listen to this story.

This is a tale of three lucky dogs

who lived in a beautiful doghouse.

The dogs spent the dog days of summer
lounging around the lawn.

Fore!

And playing fetch...

and generally living a dog's life.

But as time passed,

the doghouse started having problems.

First, the roof sprang a leak.

"Somebody should fix that," the dogs said.

But nobody thought "somebody" meant them.

Next, they broke the windows.

"Somebody ought to replace those,"
the dogs said.

But, again, nobody
would be that "somebody."

Then, termites moved into the walls.

"Somebody should get rid of those bugs,"
the dogs all said.

But, as usual,

since each dog thought "somebody"
meant "somebody else,"

none of them so much as
lifted a paw to help.

Then, finally...

Bye!

The dogs realized that
if nobody will be somebody,

everybody loses.

So do you see my point?

Oh, quite so!

Excellent story!

Well, we just hope we're not too late
to tell it to the others.

-Thank you, sir.
-You're most welcome.

Oh. Come, Pinniped!

-I can't cut it down.
-Well, I can't cut it down.

-Well, I can't cut it down.
-Okay.

Then we'll have to do it together.

Wait! Stop.

Cease and desist!

Oh! It's all clear to me now.

First, the roof leaks.
Then the windows break.

Then the termites.

Don't you see? It's the same situation!

We can't let it happen.

Did he say something about termites?

No, that was just part of the story. But--

I see. You've been talking
to the Caterpillar, haven't you?

Yes. And what we realized was

that somebody has to stand up
for this little plant.

And that "somebody" is us.

Fine. As long as "us" is you and Pinniped.

I don't want her getting angrier
than she already is.

Oh, no. "Us" can't be just two or three.

When I say someone must save this plant,

I mean everybody in Wonderland.

Everybody?

Well, they always say
there's strength in numbers.

And it is true that this little plant

doesn't stand a chance
unless somebody stands up for it.

You might even say
the plant needs us to root for it!
