scrubbing graffiti off of mushrooms

I need another pair of hands.

Oh, yes, quite so.

Listen, I was wondering,

may I ask your advice?

Yes. My advice is don't sit there.
It's covered with wet paint.

Oh, yes.

About this graffiti problem,

it just so happens
I may know who's responsible.

Really? Well, I'd like to give him
a piece of my mind.

Yes, but I also believe
I know why the vandal defaces things.

I think he feels that
nobody pays attention to him,

so he paints graffiti
in order to be noticed.

In a way, I feel sorry for him.

You feel sorry for him?

What about the people
whose property he's defaced?

I think you should listen to this story.

Once there was an old oak tree,

which was the favorite stop for
woodpeckers flying south for the winter.

The tree was nothing fancy,

just a place
to take a load off your wings,

chirp with friends
and get some good grubs.

Then, one day,

a woodpecker named Bill
decided to carve his name in the tree...

so his buddies would know he'd been there.

Bill's buddies picked up on the idea...

And soon, every woodpecker
who passed through left his mark.

After a while, the old tree
was more pecked than wood.

Until finally, it simply fell over.

The woodpeckers' thoughtless vandalism

had destroyed their favorite tree!

When the woodpeckers
realized what they'd done,

they tried to think of
another place to go instead.

But they couldn't come up with anything.

In fact, you might say...

they were stumped.

So you see,

when you leave your mark
in a way that destroys property,

everyone loses.

I see what you mean.

Well, perhaps it's time
someone said so to the vandal.

-Thank you, Caterpillar.
-Mm-hm.

Mr. Walrus, what's wrong?
You seem a little down in the dumps.

Yes, indeed I am.

I'm feeling so sad and lonely.

Lonely?

Well, isn't Pinniped here?

No. In fact, I don't think

you'll be seeing much of
my invisible friend anymore.

You see...

I discovered who was
scrawling graffiti everywhere.

I'm afraid...

it was Pinniped.

I can't believe it.

That's terrible!

That's what I told him.

But he said he was doing it

because he felt as if
no one cared about him.

I think he even suspects
that some people don't believe in him.

So the graffiti was just to get attention?

Precisely. But he went too far!

I told him, "I can't be friends

with someone who doesn't
respect my other friends' property."

Well, after that,
things went from bad to worse

and, finally, he stomped off.

I'm sorry, Mr. Walrus.

It must be tough
to lose such a close friend.

Yes, it is.

But I still have friends like you.

Until he changes his ways,

Pinniped won't have any friends at all.

As if I didn't have enough to deal with.
What with waxy buildup on the furniture

and unsightly water spots on the dishes,

and now the palace is covered with-- Ah!

Graffiti?

Your Majesty...

Your Majesty, come quickly!

Oh, good grief! What's the big emergency?

Can't you see I'm drying my hair?

[gasps] Hey!

How did you clean it so quickly?

I didn't, Your Majesty!

Someone has cleaned it up for me.

Say, is that a new look for you,
Your Majesty?

-What?
-Because I like it.

Oh, stop that!

The only new look around here
is my clean courtyard.

It's the same all over Wonderland.

When we got up this morning,
all the graffiti was gone.

Even Mr. Hatter's statue
has been cleaned up.

My great-great-grandhatter
has never looked better.

At least, as good as he can,
considering he's carved out of stone.

Who did this good deed?

Actually, I can explain.

Or rather, Pinniped can.

Pinniped.

Yeah. Well, that about says it all,
doesn't it?

Uh, sure, but something so important
is worth repeating.

Out loud, preferably.

Sorry. Pinniped tends to mumble
whenever he gets nervous.

[laughing]

He simply wants to apologize
for being the graffiti vandal.

And he promises never to do it again.

In fact, he spent all night
cleaning up the mess he made.

Pinniped was the vandal.

That explains why we
couldn't catch him. We couldn't...

see him.

Yes! But he left clues.

All those words that were in the graffiti,

"Ned, nine, din, den, ten, dip in,"

had something in common.

Besides bad penmanship?

Yes! Follow me.

All the words use the letters:

P, I, N, E, D,

which are the letters in Pinniped's name.

[gasping]

Oh, very clever!

But, uh, one question still remains:

Yes, what kind of soap did he use?

Oh, no. No.

Question is, why did he do it?

Oh, to get attention!

He said that sometimes
he feels no one knows he's around.

He feels... invisible.

He is invisible.

Well, be that as it may,

he now realizes there are
better ways to get attention

than defacing property.

I'll say. Personally, I recommend this.
