Cattle rancher King usually captured criminals and spies and found lost hikers, though he did so with the use of his airplane, the Songbird.

Out of the blue of the western sky comes

Sky King. As we say

here in the West, Greet partner,

reach for Nabisco. My

partner! Reach for

Nabisco. The bright red

seal on the package end. Means

there's mighty good cookies inside, my

friend. Yep, that famous Nabisco seal is

on all your favorite cookies. Creamy

Chocolatey Oreo Cream Sandwich, Yummy Fig

Newtons, Mouth-Meltin' Lorna Doon,

Chipperoons, those great tastin' coconut

chocolate drop cookies, and many, many

others. So just remember, when it comes

to cookies... Reach for

Nabisco! Nabisco!

And now, Sky King.

You're pleased, Dr. Hazara?Yes, Joseph.

I believe you have found the ideal spot.

When I first saw this place, I thought it

would be just what you had in mind. It

is, and I'm sure it will serve our

purpose perfectly. Also, we are far

enough from town so that we will not be

bothered by prying eyes or unwanted

visitors. What about the old man who

lives in the cabin? He will cause us no

trouble. You have inquired about him, nun?

He lives alone, almost like a hermit.

Good. So much the better for us. And each

day he goes out to prospect for a new

rich gold field that he hopes will make

him rich. Like so many other stupid

Americans, he too wishes to become a

capitalist someday. Ah, but are not his

habits well suited to our plans? To the

point of perfection. No one will miss

him. When our job is done, he just

disappears. Come, Joseph, let us see

where we will be staying for the duration

of our assignment.

Well, look sure we got some company. Come

on. Come on, Goldie. This is

the planetarium. Thank you, Joseph.

Come on, Goldie. Forget that. Come on.

Come onHere comes the old man now. It's

about time. Is anyone with him?No, he is

alone. Good. It makes everything much

simpler for us. You'll take care of him.

I'll be back in Fiji now, just as soon as

I see where our company is.

Oh, hello, ma'am. My name is Charlie. I

live here, you see, and I wasn't

expecting that...

You won't bother us for a while. Tie them

up, and then you can help me set up the

instruments. Perhaps tonight the wind

currents will be right for us.

Security Office. Yes, Major Gordon. I'll

check on them immediately. Hold on, sir.

Hello, Hello Major Gordon. The expl*si*n

was in Area No. 5. Yes, sir. I'll check

on it right away. Will you bring me the

inventory list for this building?Yes,sir.

Oh, Major Gordon. Yes?Oh, hello, Mr.

Davis. Well, anybody hurt this time? No,

fortunately no one was in the building

when it went up. Well, that's something

to be thankful for. Two explosions in two

days. I don't like sending this kind of

an accident report to Washington. If it

really was an accident. You mean you

don't think it was an accident?Mr. Davis,

two explosions in as many days is a lot

of coincidence to swallow. Yes.

Major Gordon?Yes. You found it. Yes, sir.

Thank you.

Just as I thought. According to his

inventory list, no expl*sives or

combustibles of any kind was stored in

the warehouse. Well, that's right. There

were none in the building that blew up

last night. Yet both were completely

destroyed by explosions. Well, if it is

sabotaged, Major, Desert Project has to

be protected. An expl*si*n like tonight's

near one of our experimental stockpiles

would blow this thing off the face of the

earth. I realize that, sir. But I can't

understand how a b*mb or expl*sive device

could have been brought inside the

prohibited area. Oh, it's impossible.

They can't get past our security patrols.

But our alarm system is just about

foolproof. That's right. And everybody

working on this project has been

thoroughly screened as to his loyalty.

Major, it seems that you have a mystery

to solve. And the safety of the whole

desert project depends upon your coming

up with the right answer in time.

Major Gordon, this is my niece, Penny.

How do you do?My nephew, Clipper. How you

doing, Major? My ranch foreman, Jim Bell.

How do you do?Major Gordon, security

officer over at Desert Project.

Protecting our government's secrets in

these days is a mighty important job. It

certainly is. And it's a w*r of wits we

can't afford to lose. That's the reason

I'm here, Sky. I need your help. Those

explosions at the project?Yes. Then they

weren't accidents like the papers said.

No, we have definite proof it was

sabotage. And perhaps you'd better tell

me the story from the beginning, Major.

Won't you sit down?Thank you. And you

will help? You can count on me. Us.

You don't think you're gonna leave Penny

and Clipper and me out of this, do you?

Well, frankly, I can use all the help I

can get. When was the first attempt at

sabotage, Major? Two nights ago when one

of the office buildings blew up, and then

last night when one of the warehouses

went up. You think someone working on the

project could be responsible?No, from

what we've learned so far, I don't think

we're dealing with a traitor within the

project. I don't understand. How are the

bombs... How are the bombs brought inside

the prohibited area?Well, we didn't have

the answer to that until this morning.

And then only after my men spent the

entire night sifting through the rubble

of last night's expl*si*n.

And they found these.

It looks and feels like rubberized cloth.

The kind weather balloons are made of.

And black so that the balloon will be

invisible within the air at night. You

mean balloons are bringing the bombs into

the desert project?That sounds

fantastic. Not so fantastic when you

remember that during World w*r II, the

enemy released balloons carrying

incendiary bombs from their island bases

in the Pacific. The wind currents brought

them in over our West Coast states. Yeah,

I read about those. Some of those

balloons traveled as far as 1,700 miles

before they came down and exploded. From

those bits of cloth, we've been able to

compute the balloon to be about four feet

in diameter. Since we did find parts of

the balloon,We reasoned that a timing

mechanism must allow the gas in them to

escape, dropping mechanism,

balloon, and b*mb to do their damage. By

the pink-toed prophets, them balloons

have got to be stopped. That's right, Mr.

Bell. We've been comparatively lucky so

far, and the damage done. But if the

balloons continue, I don't know how long

our luck will hold out. Do you have any

idea where the balloons are coming from,

Major?Yes and no. Mr.

Sky. This chart indicates the wind

currents of Prevail Over Desert project

the last two nights. They seem to be

identical both nights. They were, Sky.

Well, the way these wind drift lines are

drawn, the balloons could be coming from

anywhere within 200 square miles. That's

why I came to see you, Sky. You know this

terrain. That's a lot of ground to cover.

It'd take days and maybe a week to cover

it all. I think a week's a conservative

estimate, Jim, to cover this area

thoroughly. That's just it, Sky. We

don't have a week or even a day. I'm

sorry, I don't understand.

The weather officer at Luke Air Force

Base forecasts the wind currents, the

direction and drift of the wind currents

for tonight. As you can see, they're

exactly the same as the last two nights,

which means in all probability there will

be another sabotage attempt on Desert

Project tonight. Something has to be

done. Well, of course something has to be

done. You don't think Sky and the Major

are gonna sit and watch the desert

project be blown up, do you?Ohh Clipper,

you know what I mean. Easy, easy. How are

we gonna stop somebody from setting up

more balloons when we don't know where

they're coming from?

There is a way, Jim. At

least we'll stand a fighting chance of

stopping those balloons before they reach

the project and do their damage. By the

pink-told prophet, Sky, you tell us what

you want us to do and we'll do it. I can

promise you the complete cooperation of

every government agency. What's your

idea, Sky?

Here's what I think we'll have to do.

You sure are living, ain't you?Every time

you hear a noise, you gotta go for your

g*ns. Shut up!

Just to ease your mind, there's only

Joseph returning from town.

Well, what did you learn? They spoke of

the expl*si*n, but that it did no real

damage. Only a warehouse was destroyed.

Then you'll have to try again tonight if

the wind currents are right. There were

rumors that sabotage is suspected. Let

them suspect what they like. It takes

more than suspicions to find us. By then

there's a project that will be a thing of

the past. Has the old man been giving you

any trouble?Bound as he is, he can only

talk. That's something the people in your

country are afraid to do. Shut up.

Joseph. I think we should dispose

of him now as I told you before we might

need him to explain our presence here

should the authorities come snooping

around asking questions but if he should

escape it is your responsibility to see

that he doesn't I still think that we the

party didn't assign you to this job to

think you were told to follow my orders

do you understand yeah

good then we will speak of it no more now

we have work to do to prepare for tonight

Careful of the doorway there. You take

care of your end, I'll take care of mine.

Okay, set her down.

That town-founded radar is heavier than

a yearling calf. There

we go.

Yeah, but if Sky's plan for the night

works, it's gonna be worth its weight in

gold. This is the last of it, Clipper.

Thank you, Penny. What's that contraction

we carried out here? What's it for?

Well, it's a squirter. A what?

Squirter. Now, that's a slang name for

the radar antenna or scanner. Well,

why didn't you say so in the first place?

What's it for?You mean, you don't know

what it's for?I haven't the slightest

idea. Should we tell him?Sure.

Tell him. Well, you see,

Jim, it's like this. When the wave or

beam hits an object, it bounces right

back here as an echo, get it?

No. Now wait a minute, Clipper.

Just give it to me sort of Texas-like.

You know, slow and easy.

Okay, Jim. It's like this. The

radar waves, or radio beam, is sent out

from here. When the beam hits a

mountain or an airplane or any solid

object, it bounces off whatever it's hit

and returns right back here to the

scanner. As an echo. Well, then the

echo is converted inside the radar set to

a PIP, or a series of PIPs, which then

appear on the elevation scope. It's

really all quite simple. Yeah. And here

you see, this is the asthma scope. Okay,

I believe you. I believe you. But if you

ask me, it's just like television. It

can't work. But it does.

Yes?Yes, Joseph. My previous calculations

were quite correct. Again tonight, the

wind currents will be blowing directly

over desert project. Good. With luck

then, our job here will be done tonight.

No one will be devised that as how it was

accomplished. I shall start to prepare

the balloon. Good.

Testing one, two, three. One, two,

three. Can you read me, clipper?Over.

Read you loud and clear. Repeat. You're

coming in loud and clear, Sky. Over.

Roger, Clipper. Receiving you fine here.

Come on back the hangar. Over and out.

Roger. Wilco, Sky. Out.

I think we have everything, Major Gordon.

I'm certain we have. Oh, Major, how does

it look?Perfect, Sky. They've done a fine

job. I said they even thought of an extra

battery to power the radar, he said. It's

all set, Sky. Ohh Clipper, Major Gordon

was just complimenting you on the way you

set up this radar clip. Thanks, Major,

but Jim here did most heavy work. Penny

and I just twisted a couple of wires

together. Well, then you all did fine

jobs. Thank you. It's getting late.

You've got quite a few miles to go to get

into position. Right, Sky, and we can't

afford to be late. This contour map shows

a rise here. From this vantage point, you

should be able to scanthe surrounding

terrain. I know where that is, Sky. Good.

You should be able to make it in about

two hours. As soon as it gets dark, I'll

fly over and we can establish contact.

We'll be ready, Sky. Well, don't worry

about us. You just take care of yourself,

Sky. I'll do the best I can. Now you

better get rolling. I'll close up the

back.

Yeah, this is the spot that Sky meant all

right. Well, we don't have much time to

get set up before it starts getting dark,

so let's get at it. All right, Major,

let's get going, Penny.

Hand me the cable clipper. There you are,

Penny. Thank you. Say, Major, this

high-voltage rectifier is a little loose

here. Let me have a look. Would you check

the scanning screen?Right. I wish I knew

what they was talking about. It's

a beautiful night, no clouds, almost no

moon, and a brisk wind.

And always perfect for our purpose.

The wind still blows strong and steady

over our objective. No, it has shifted

slightly. This change in direction. Will

it make a difference?Unfortunately, yes.

If we released a balloon now, the wind

currents wouldn't carry it within miles

of desert project. Is there anything we

can do?Yes, wait. It is

possible the wind will shift again before

the night is over. But all we can do now

is watch and wait.

Is that what you call scamming? That's

right, Jim. Anything that gets in the way

of this beam will show up as a pip on the

radar scope. I'm picking up

something.

Clipper, move the scanner more to the

left. There, hold it. It's

moving too fast to be anything but an

airplane.

I hear it now. It could be sky. I'll see

if it is.

Flying Crown Station Wagon calling Sky

King. Flying Crown Station Wagon

calling Sky King. Would you read me?

Over. Sky King to Flying

Crown Station Wagon. Read you loud and

clear, Penny. Is everything set up?Over.

Roger, Sky. Major Gordon's tracking you

on the radar scope right now. Over.

And you haven't picked up anything

suspicious yet. Over?No, nothing

yet, Skye. I'm starting my search pattern

now, and I'll see what I can pick up.

Over and out. Roger. Over and

out.

Dr. Hazara, the wind has shifted.

Yes, yes, the direction is just right. In

another couple hours it will be light. I

know, I knowJoseph, inflate the balloon

while I calculate the time setting. Yeah.

Would

you like some more coffee, Clipper? No,

thanks, Betty. You picking up anything,

Major? Not a thing, Clipper. Maybe they

ain't gonna send up a balloon tonight.

Maybe we've missed it. Sky

King calling station wagon. Sky King

calling station wagon. Over.

Station wagon to Sky King. Go

ahead, Sky. Just checking, Penny.

Picked up anything suspicious yet?Over.

No, nothing yet, Sky. Over.

Nothing to report up here either. ohh

Tell Major Gordon I'm running low on gas.

In a few minutes, I'll have to head back

to the base to refuel. Over. Roger,

Sky. We're going out.

There. It's done. The time

mechanism is set. And the gas in the

balloon will be released over the very

center of the desert project. Good. And

the b*mb will do the rest. Release it.

Sky King calling station wagon, over.

Station wagon to Sky King. Go ahead, Sky.

I'm running out of gas, Penny.

I'm going to head back to the base to

refuel, over. I'll tell

Major Gordon, Sky, over. I'm picking up

something. Move the scanner more to the

right. Sky, Major Gordon's picked up

something on the scope. Over. Tracking

on a course of north by northeast,

altitude 200 feet, approximate speed 11

miles per hour. well Only a balloon will

be flying that low and that slow.

Sky, Major Gordon's picked up the ball.

Course north by northeast at 200 feet.

Course north by northeast

at 200 feet at about 11

miles per hour. Not in, Sky?Roger,

Penny. I'm going after it. But, Sky,

you're nearly out of gas. You were going

back to refuel. I'm going to have a try

at the balloon first. Wish me luck,

Penny. Over and out.

I picked up the balloon on my radar

screen I'm tracking what can a

plane be doing over this area it's

prohibited some stupid American is

probably off his course you think it is

no more than that certainly and tomorrow

they will be blaming him for what we have

done tonight

Clipper yes major let the actuator arm

and come down here sure I'll do a little

investigating what do you got in mind

major they might try to release another

balloon maybe I can stop them do you know

where the balloon came fromfrom the

time-lapse of the reflected beam I think

the one we picked up on radar was

released within a mile of here ohh good

I'll go with you major me too well you

ain't gonna leave me behind sorry clipper

but someone has to stay behind and work

the radar that leaves you out and you

penny have to keep radio contact with sky

well that leaves me and in as much as I

don't know anything about working these

gadgets ain't no reason for me to stay

behind I'm pretty good with my fist even

if I do say so myself why ain't nobody

laid hand on me and well I can't remember

whenAll right, Jim, we'll see what we can

find together. I'd like to get my hands

on them saboteurs. I'll teach them a

thing or two about the good old American

custom of self-defense. Well, what are we

waiting for?Okay, Jim, let's go.

On target. Here it goes.

Mist. Machine g*n fire. I

know, I heard it. But it was directly

overhead. You think they have found out?

Perhaps. close the door, Joseph. Do we

leave immediately?Shall I start packing

the equipment? No, we cannot go until we

have accomplished our assignment. You are

right. The party would not understand our

failure.

But what are we to do?You have enough

hydrogen left to inflate another balloon?

Yes, enough for several. Good. Then we

will give them more than one tiger to

sh**t at. Joseph, prepare another balloon

immediately while I set the time

mechanism. And this time, Joseph,

we will not fail.

Should be enough left for one more pass.

You thought nobody'd find out about your

little scheme, didn't you?Shut up.

Listen, we Americans know more about your

kind, what you're trying to do than you

think. Shut up. What's the matter?

You're afraid of hearing the truth, or

you're afraid to admit to yourselves that

you're licked before you start? Are you

afraid of what your bosses back home are

gonna do to you when they find out it's

your favorite?I said shut up. You don't

like to hear people telling the truth, do

you?Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut

up! Leave him alone. But he was...

You've got work to do that's more

important than satisfying your temper.

Now get that balloon ready.

On target and tracking, have her zeroed

in. Wish me luck, Penny, it's now or

never. Out.

Look, Clipper, he's hit it, it's falling.

Station wagon to Sky King, station wagon

to Sky King. Sky, you've hit it, you've

hit it. It's going down. Over.

So am I, Clipper.

Maybe if I can lean out the mixture

enough, I can make it back to the base.

Over and out.

That's about where I figured the balloon

we picked up on the radar scope was

released from. That's old Charlie's

place. Who's he?Well, I guess you'd call

him a prospector. He does odd jobs around

here at the ranches so he can save up

enough money to do a couple of months of

prospecting. He wouldn't be me. Oh, no,

not Charlie, no. But

it does seem stranger to be up this late

unless there were some special reason.

Come on, let's give a look, Jim. Don't

let him see us. I'm right with you. I'm

ready for the b*mb. It's in the other

room. I get it.

Not active yet. Fix me another harness

for the broom.

We found our saboteur. Yeah, and it ain't

Charlie. Thunder and lightning.

It looks like he's getting another broom

ready. We'll see that it's never

released. Come on, John. Keep

your hands where I can see them. See

what's back there. Ohh

It's old Charlie. Take a look back there

first.

There's no one in there. I'll have you

untied in just a giffy. Oh, how

about you? We'll get you right down to a

doctor. Oh, don't worry about me. I'll

be all right. Look out, Major!

Stay where you are.

You know, that's the best piece of pie I

ever ate, Miss Penny. Well, you sure you

won't have some more? There's plenty left.

No No no no no no no more. I had plenty

now. You're You're spoiling me, you know

that?Ohh Yes, you are. Sure is gonna be

tough on me. I have to go back eating my

own cooking. Well, you

know, Charlie, you're always a welcome

guest here. Oh, would you like? You sure

are, Charlie. The only time Penny ever

takes time to fix anything special is

when company's coming. Now, Clipper, you

don't look to me as if you were wasting

away from lack of food. Well, I don't

know. And the way you eat, Clipper King,

somebody has to see that you don't get

too fat.

Well, Sky, I don't know how I can ever

properly thank you for what you've done.

If it weren't for you, Jim, I wouldn't be

here now. Shucks, Major. I got thanks

enough when I seen them saboteurs put in

jail. That isn't the only thing Jim got

last night. Now, see here, young man.

The door did that. the door?

Sky, Clipper, and Penny may now be seen

regularly on TV in a new series of

adventure films. Be sure to watch for

them.
