The NCAA and Tennessee athletics

are squaring off because of NIL.

[reporter 2] Breaking right now,

a federal judge blocked the NCAA's

NIL's recruiting policy

after a lawsuit

by the states of Tennessee and Virginia.

Effective immediately,

the NCAA must stop

enforcing its interim NIL policy.

[man] What this will do

is allow the schools

to do what they're already doing,

but now they can do it in the open.

It also may allow them

to get rid of the middlemen.

You may not necessarily

need collectives anymore.

If we're just admitting

that this is the schools

giving players money to come play sports,

why can't the schools

just do it themselves?

[reporter 3] It's possible other states

could follow

Tennessee and Virginia's lawsuit,

especially states

where collegiate athletics

are a big part of the state's identity.

If we amend this, it will become

a new Senate bill, right?

[woman] Yeah.

[Jacobs] Now that this Tennessee

and Virginia injunction has come out,

it's created this frustration for us,

because Tennessee and Virginia

technically have an advantage

because their collectives

can be meeting with recruits.

Financial workshops

so we're changing that

- and adding the services language.

And our coaches are frustrated.

They're hearing that said school

paid X amount of money

and why don't why can't we do that?

Marie Claire and I are sitting

in a corner rewriting the state law.

universities couldn't attract talent

with direct pay in money,

as it was ill*gal.

And now we're about to take a big stride

into the next step.

So this document right here,

I took the existing Senate bill 250,

and as we were going through it,

I tried to strike things

that we wanted to strike and change.

It's very confusing.

I think our coaches are frustrated.

Tennessee and Virginia

now has a recruiting advantage,

which ultimately then

can become a competitive advantage.

You got the likelihood that 48 states

are now going to come forward

and say the injunction that passed

in Tennessee, in Virginia

we want the same thing.

What does it look like

if we do have to pay athletes?

What are these things going to look like?

Do you want legal in on this meeting,

or just do us and the AG's office?

[Zinn] When necessary, they can

come to the table on that with us.

I think it's going to change

a lot about college athletics.

is a huge component of gymnastics

and you've had to balance

quite a busy schedule in your life,

voted to unionize, right?

and different things.

I hope and pray that doesn't change

the fabric of college athletics

in relationship to how the fan supports it

and is involved with it.

[Worsham] The system was skewed one way

unfavorably toward student athletes.

But if we go so hard the other way

and it's a purely financial decision,

we're going to lose so much connection,

so many memories

that I think are vital to American sport.

[Jacobs] A year or two ago,

things were so chaotic

because NIL was chaotic.

Now we're looking at the chaos

of a revenue share.

This is at another level.

History is going to change

in the next year.

But the love of the game

and the money game,

I do believe they can coexist.
