01x03 - Episode 3

Post by bunniefuu »

This programme contains some
strong language

I'm not looking to create a star,
I'm looking to find a star.

Previously on Project Icon...

I want you guys to make the play to
be signed to my record label.

Ten unsigned artists began
their fight for one amazing prize -

the record deal of their dreams

and a performance at Radio 1's
Big Weekend.

There's only one person's going to
be signing with Jason

and that will be me.

But a voice is not enough,

and four artists have already
failed to make the cut.

# In the eye... #

That might be one of the worst songs
I ever heard.

And the pressure is rising.

Xyzelle, you do need to
watch the bits where

you are stepping on people's toes.

Last time, Okeam's performance
narrowly saved him

at the sing-off...

# I wish you the best... #

I'm shocked. That was incredible.

..sending Xyzelle and Charlie home.

I don't know what I'm going to do
now when you're not in the house.

Mate, just go and win it.

The artists have performed
on the biggest stage in the UK...

# Ah... #

Go!

..but only one can be signed.

I'm going to be real.

This is a big deal.

It's week three of the
Project Icon competition.

You can really feel
the pressure in the room right now.

We are the top six.

And one of these artists

is inching closer to a dream record
deal with Jason.

We're halfway through
the competition.

We need artists who can deliver
and show me that they

can survive in a very,
very hard global market.

The energy has shifted.
Yeah.

It's definitely become more of like,
Yeah.

We can all feel that the pressure
has definitely turned right up.

Everyone feels like pure game on.

Charlie was a distraction.

I'm not here to make friends.
I'm here to win.

Who would I like to see leave?

I think Dylan or Emelle.

One of those two.

Hello.

Here they are, the Sexy Six.

Yeah!

Was that a bit weird?
No, it's just accurate.

Okeam, how are you
feeling about being

the new front runner,

Jason's current favourite
at the moment?

It just feels now that I'm going to
have to just step my game up

and try to keep that title as long
as I can.

What's up, y'all?
Oh, wow.

Becky is on tour,

so judges Jason and Frank will be
setting the next task.

For your next challenge, we are
stepping into a studio.

Yes.

If you want to make
it in this music industry,

the first thing that you've got
to worry about is songs.

Can you create a song?

We want you to work on an existing
track that we want you to reimagine.

Right. I am buzzing to get started
with this challenge.

As you all know, we like a little
twist, so we're going to get you

to reimagine one of your fellow
Oh...

Of course.

Artists like Adele, Jay-Z,
Alicia Keys, Ed Sheeran,

they've all released cover
songs that they made their own.

Today our artists got to do
the same.

You will be put into pairs
and you will take each other's song

to rework it in the studio
with a top music producer.

Are they going to be able to
put their own spin,

their own feel, their own
style to the song?

No pressure.

You will then perform it live
back to us.

Wow.

Dylan, we're going to partner
you up with Mia

cos we feel like your styles
kind of complement each other's.

All right. I'm going to do
what I have to do

to make Mia's track my own.

Don't butcher my baby.

I'll try not to.

Okeam, you have a unique sound,
and Emelle,

you have a really good
way with your words,

so I'm excited to pair you two up.

I have a lot more experience
in the studio than Okeam does.

You sing through the whole song?

So you're taking the song
and you're just making it yours.

Nnenna, Barry, I think you
guys are both powerhouse vocalists.

We'll put you guys together to see
what you can create.

Diva!

Barry is loud, he's a lot,
but I'm also very good at what I do.

Use your time wisely,
because if your track is whack,

one of you will be dropped.

Get yourselves up.
Good luck.

The studio is where magic
is created.

I'm very excited to see
how the artists are going to do

in this environment, and if they
have a natural aptitude for it.

Hey.
Hello.

First into the Project Icon studios
is Emelle,

who will be working with producing
duo Bill and Ted.

They were behind the TikTok
sensation

and number-one hit Wellerman,
by Nathan Evan.

And produced Through The Night,
by our own Becky Hill.

So, whose track are we doing today?
Erm, you're doing my track.

And we're reworking it with you,
Yeah, yeah. Amazing

I guess we'll have a little blast
So excited.

Country singer Emelle will be trying
to put her stamp on Okeam's R&B

signature track, Stay Loving Me,

that he performed in week one.

# The vibrations moving back
and forth in your mind... #

My song is about being vulnerable,

just wanting somebody
to just love you.

How are you hearing this song?

I actually see like a massive
opportunity for country

Yeah?

Like, proper, old-school,
hoedown-type country

but with like a big beat
Cool.

I kind of want to get rid of the
R&B.

No, that's all right.
Do your thing.

I want country to be mainstream and
be cool, because it should be, like.

There's a stigma around it
for no reason.

Country's literally just, you know,
three chords and the truth,

and isn't that what everyone wants?

I think we want to have a little
more like, dun-dun, bwah, wah-wah.

Oh, my God!

Yeah.

The song's very chilled,
very relaxing,

but she's taking it into a different
direction.

# I know what you want

# I can tell by the way you look at
me.

Go on.

Come on. Have some of that!

Taylor Swift.

She was a country artist,

but, boy, did she have incredible
commercial appeal.

And I want to see if Emelle can
combine that country feel

with mainstream appeal.

I'm Barry.
So, we are working on...

My version of Nnenna's song.
Yes, yes, yes.

And do you have any ideas for what
you want to...?

I've got quite a few ideas,
OK.

So, my music kind of stems from
Mm-hm.

So I want to do, like, glam pop,
Yeah.

Yep.

A lot of energy,
a lot of kind of punchiness.

I love when an artist
comes in with ideas.

But, at the same time, it is
a collaborative process,

so it's just managing that.

Tre Jean-Marie achieved a Brit
nomination for writing and producing

the million-selling track Lighter
by Nathan Dawe, featuring KSI.

Now he gets to
work his magic with Barry,

reimagining Nnenna's soul track,
Take Me For Who I Am.

Yeah.

# When I was a little girl... #

My song is basically just a song
to own your insecurities,

just to embrace them.

I think the tempo could be
OK.

Like an anthem-type thing.
Yeah.

Especially cos it's saying,
like, take me for what I am.

And, obviously, being a q*eer man,
you have to take me as I am.

Barry, he knows exactly
what he wants.

He has a vision,
and he's quite clear.

But there's an element of, you know,
being quite protective

and, you know, precious over your
children, your babies, your songs.

# Didn't know myself
Had to rewrite the... #

Oh, I like that.
# Rewrite the thought, doh.

# Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun.
I am a genius.

Being confident within the studio
is a great trick to have,

but there's a very fine line
between confidence and arrogance.

You're a brand-new artist, you have
never done a hit in your life,

so it's OK to take
a bit of a backseat,

or at least allow
the producer to be heard.

He is the experienced
one in the room.

# Cos I stand in my flaws...

I think that, after the...

Eight bars, that's
OK.

If somebody were to say
that Barry was overbearing,

I would completely get it.

# Dun, dun, dun, duh-duh, dun.
As I am...

However, I love Barry.
I think he's great.

He was focused
and straight to the point.

And I think, here,
we have one-bar break.

# Didn't know myself, duh-duh,
duh-duh, dun...#

OK.

It's quite a daunting thing, to
walk into a room full of people that

you've never met before and to lay
your soul bare and write a song.

I think, if you don't,
then the song suffers for it.

So I have more of like a dance vibe.

Dance music is kind of what
we do mainly,

so I think you're in good hands.

# Hot in it, a la carte in it

# Rocking it, dropping it... #

Goldfingers made their mark
on their smash hit

Hot In It by Tiesto
and Charli XCX.

Today, it's 18-year-old busker Mia
and her version of Dylan's

indie-pop song Heaven Now.

# And now I'm praying to another
God... #

This track means
a great deal to me

because it reminds me that
I can be resilient, and if there's

something you want to do with
your life, it's always worth it.

# And now I'm praying to another
God... #

I'm wanting to make it
definitely more female.

Yeah, you want to show off
your range and stuff, yeah.

You kind of have to be
pretty ruthless

and do what you need to do with
the original to make it sound

different, but the goal is to make
it sound better, of course.

# I found nirvana in my hands
on your body

# And if it's sinning, I'm a sinner
So what?

# We're in heaven now,
heaven now... #

Anything that pops out to you?

Yeah, I really like that, actually.

Mia kind of said yes to everything.

We would like her to come with
a bit more ideas,

be a bit more critical
to our suggestions.

Just like hearing
a few of the chords that you've got,

I'm really like liking the style.

To cut through, Mia
just needs to be more herself

and find what's inside of her
that she needs to say,

sort of a personal thing
coming from Mia.

And when we find the tempo, we can
start looking at the chords

and then you lead us.

I'll do my best.
You lead us. All right.

It's quite intimidating,
working with new producers,

and it overwhelms me quite a bit.

# And in a midnight shiver

# Your religion feels
so damn right... #

Great. Can we try to go from that
verse just into the first line

So we
Mm-hm.

# Yeah, now I'm praying
to another God... #

Just needs a bit more clarity.

Just over-pronounce it a bit more.
OK.

It's not just making her
mark in the studio

that Mia is having difficulty with.

Let's drop that in and get it a bit
clearer, just the second line.

This one here.

# Soft apple lips tempt mine... #

Yeah.

Dylan puts a lot of words close
together

using like Ss and Ts
and stuff.

When I was younger,
I really struggled to talk to people

because of my lisp, and it really
knocked my confidence a lot.

As Barry, Mia and Emelle
lay down their tracks...

OK.

..Nnenna, Dylan
and Okeam are in the holding area.

If there's anything I'm worried
about, it's learning the lyrics.

Learning the
lyrics, you know what I'm saying?

Same, same. And then performing
it as well. What about you, Nnenna?

It's just kind of being
assertive in the studio,

and knowing what you want.

And, having just watched Barry,
it's like, ooh!

I want to do the same sort of thing,
just know exactly what it is I want.

Usually, studio sessions are quite,
not relaxed but, you know,

it's a nice environment.

But there's a bit more
pressure here.

Barry's track is about his nan
who has passed away,

and so I feel like I have
to be really, really focused

with this and just don't be afraid,
you know, to speak to

my producer and just let him know,
like, we need to win this task.

Time for a swap, and for Nnenna to
work on Barry's track with Tre.

Right, let's play Barry's track
and see what you think.

# So be higher than the sky

# And deeper than the ocean

# So take a bunch of yellow
roses from me.. #

My signature song is called
Yellow Roses.

It's a song I wrote when I was 16,
after my nan passed away.

# Filled with colour
and they were just blue. #

I actually want to make it
Great.

I'm quite a soulful kind of girl,

but kind of maybe like an Afro kind
Mm-hm.

Obviously, that's kind of like the
in, commercial sort of thing,

do you know what I mean?

I will admit that it was scary,

the idea of taking something that's
mine and giving it to someone else.

Let's look at key first.

Let's start with two tones.
Yeah.

My musical experience
kind of started very, very young.

I was in choirs at school.

I sang in Trafalgar Square
when I was like 17.

And most recently I had an amazing
opportunity to play

two nights at the Jazz Cafe.

I'm at the point in my life,
at 25,

where I just feel like
no-one does what I do.

I know now is my time.

OK, and see
You can lead.

Let me know, let me know
I hear you, all right.

# Take a bunch of yellow roses from
me... #

Nnenna's sound is more
what I would hear on radio.

Yeah.

Once Nnenna gains a bit more
confidence, she will be a star.

That's the only thing that's
lacking for me at the moment.

So, Nnenna, she knows her market,
and that's good business,

but I'd be interested to see how it
comes off during this performance.

I'm not the best musician when it
comes to theory and everything,

No, don't worry.
Don't worry about that.

In studio one,
Jason's current front runner, Okeam,

is settling in with Bill and Ted.

Do you want to hear it
a couple of times

to start familiarising yourself with
Yeah.

The R and B singer has been
set the task to make his mark on

Emelle's country track,
Collateral Damage.

# It's a game you're always
gonna lose

# And I'm just collateral damage. #

This song was written as therapy for
me, really. I wrote it so that

I could put it on my headphones and
listen to it every time I felt sad.

# You are always gonna lose. #

Keep me in the mind frame of I was
right to kind of let go.

I've got a few ideas for this one.
Yeah?

Yeah. I'm thinking more like dark
That's cool.

With influences of maybe Motown.

I'm from Birmingham.
The area that I grew up was Newtown.

It wasn't the best of areas.

I feel like music has helped me
stay away from the drama

and find my happy place.

My long-term vision is to make

timeless music that impacts
the culture.

I just want to know that
I've made my mark.

What do you think key wise,
do you want to try and come down?

OK.

# Collateral damage. #

Yeah, that's it, yeah, that's fine,
yeah.

This challenge, it's an opportunity
for all of the artists to

flex their creative muscles.

It really speaks to the true
singer/songwriter talent

that we are looking for in this
competition.

If they can't properly convey what
they are trying to do with

the producers, guess what?

You are going to be
singing for your a*s.

# Nothing at all. #

Cool.

Thank you. I haven't made something
like this before,

but I'm, I'm slowly learning.

I know I am a bit quiet
but I'm just taking everything in.

Yeah, that's all good.
I'm just taking everything in.

It takes a while for me to process
things.

Before this whole competition, I've
only been in the studio a few times.

A couple of years ago.

It is a lot to deal with. With every
song there should be moments.

It's just about finding the moment.

My kind of gut feeling would be work
more around getting some

cooler melodies which would
represent you.

That would kind of give more
Of course. Yeah.

Hearing Okeam speaking to the
producers, it is

clear that he doesn't really know
the studio very well.

If Okeam does like, ruin the tune,

at the end of the day it makes me
look better.

It's a competition still, isn't it?

# ..nothing at all... #

Ah.

Need to work on the last part.

# ..even on the outside won't get it

# Can't break me, I won't let it. #

This is going. Striked out. Sorry.

Sorry. It's out.

Indie boy Dylan has big plans
for Mia's dance track Over You.

# Over you, if you did just
what you say

# You'd still be in my head

# You just have to accept
that I'm over you. #

Yes!

Which went down a storm in the first
challenge with Becky Hill.

I love dance music and that already
sounds pretty good to go.

Yeah, the bass is going, man.

I'm sorry.

This challenge is about how
I interpret the track and how

I want it to sound so she's just
got to sit there and understand.

The sound I'm going for is kind
of like indie pop dance

so they've got a flat bass.

Yeah.

Symbols to give it that live feel.
Just something trashy.

That sounds really interesting.
Yeah?

Let's do that.

Dylan came in today with a lot of
ideas and different directions

and I think we had to put on a hat
of organising his vision.

# ..think we're starting over

# So you can tell your friends that

# When I'm in your head, you know...
Oh, f*ck it.

Can you drop me in at the chorus?

We'll drop in there, yeah.
I got the lyric wrong.

I feel like they really get my
vision. I'm speeding it up.

I'm putting in some heavy guitars
and most importantly,

I'm adding a big hook.

# If you did just what you said

# You'd still be in my head
but you de... #

I think Dylan has done a good job.

He wasn't scared
of you know, chopping it up

and making it his own and I think
the judges will see that.

Loved that. I didn't want to stop
but let's just go back and do that

again because that was perfect.
OK. Cool.

I want to get that energy you
have right now. OK.

It was really heartbreaking
leaving the studio today

because I left on the note of
Dylan saying, "Right,

"we're taking this out, nope,
not having that, changing this.

I went, "But that's my baby and
you don't like it."

He's like, "No, it's not my style.

"Works for you but it doesn't
work for what I want to do."

I think the judges are going to be
looking for someone who knows

what they want. This is the
Yeah.

I think you've failed
at your job to reimagine

if they don't say that it's better
than the original.

Yeah.

Are you OK?

What's up?

I'm having doubts now about
whether my song was good enough.

You're upset because you don't know
if you'll be strong enough
Yeah.

# I'm a daydreamer. #

It's performance day at Icon
Studios.

This competition is intense,

the challenges are really
testing our limits.

What's up, guys?

Time for the artists to sing
their newly-arranged tracks.

This is not just about what you guys
created in the studio yesterday.

It's equally important that
what you did translates

to your performance today.

They have to be able to perform it,

they have to remember the words
and they better smash it.

Nnenna, let's go.

There's always
a possibility of being dropped.

You know, this is a game face,
inside I'm sh1tting myself.

I'm gonna be real.

Barry's track was a piano ballad,

but I wanted to take it to soulful
Afro house sort of route.

Yeah.

My song Yellow Roses means
the absolute world to me.

It's about my late nan.

The only thing that concerns me
is that Nnenna does it justice.

# I'm so glad I had those moments

# You told me so much and now
it's all gone

# I'm lost without your love

# I wish we'd start over

# You'd call me the lover

# But now it's the end for us
so take a bunch

# Of yellow roses for me

# And a kiss so you're not lonely

# There's a vibe just for you

# So take a bunch of yellow roses. #

Well done.

Oh, girl, you got this.

Thank you.

Oh, bubba.

Oh, bubba.

Come here. I told you.

You got this.
That felt good, didn't it?

The reason I was so emotional,

I was just proud of myself,
like I proper sang.

And I think it was just at that
moment I was just like, you know,

you've got to stop doubting
yourself, girl. Do you know what I
mean?

I loved the production.
I loved the vibe.

For our label, we want music that is
going to be commercially successful.

I think it's really important to
choose music that you

feel like a large
amount of people will like.

I'm thinking about that. Thinking
Beautiful.

I think she did a great job with it,
I'm very happy with the work.

It's a very meaningful
song for Barry but I don't,

I don't think it was
anything special.

All right, Barry, you're up.

The song that I created is so me,
all over.

It's glam rock fantasy, it's
loud, it's boisterous.

I'm just hoping that Jason
and Frank see what I'm trying to do

and they understand it.

So Nnenna's song was a beautiful R&B
soul jazz infused guitar moment

and I scrapped all of it and I
said I'm going to up the tempo

and give it some rock.

All right, well, let's get it,
Thank you.

# When I was a little boy

# They told me
I had to be something I weren't

# You can't play with girls' toys
or wear dresses

# And sing the songs you want

# Am I strong enough?

# I think I'm strong enough

# I don't care what they say
because I'll do it my way

# And I'll stand here proud as I am

# As I am so take me for who I am

# As I am, take me for who I am

# As I am

# Take me for who I am. #

Oh! Barry, that was so good.

Thank you.

I thought that the songwriting
quality was really good as well.

I thought it was a pretty good job.
Thank you.

I definitely didn't recognise
the song at all.

I can totally see who
you are as an artist.

This is the first week
I have actually felt like me

in this competition.

I don't feel like I had any
negatives from the judges,

which was quite a nice surprise.

You know what Frank is like, he just
kind of said, "I felt the emotion."

So I was just like, "Oh, cheers,
mate, all right, thanks."

Barry has done a good job
of my signature track.

I'm glad that he is able to
connect with the lyrics.

I think, as a writer, that is
kind of all you want.

Nnenna and Barry have done
a fantastic

job of interpreting each other's
songs.

Mia.

It's your turn.

Go on, Mia.

I'm feeling really nervous
about my performance.

This is actually the most
nervous I have been

so far about the challenges.

Dylan has a lot of lyrics close
together in his song and

I have quite a bit of a lisp so it
is hard to get round all the lyrics.

I like an S, what can I say?

I'm excited.

This song is all about being
resilient so let's see

if Mia can top my version.

# You made the liquor hit quicker

# Soft apple lips tempt mine

# And in a midnight shiver

# Your rhythm feels so damn right

# I worship your body and soul

# Salvation is locked in your love

# Every time I hear you I say

# Now I'm praying to another God

# I found nirvana in
your hands on my body... #

Wait, I'm really sorry,
can I start again?

Sorry.

So, so what exactly happened?

I messed up the lyrics
and it kind of caught me off a bit.

We didn't know that you messed
up the lyrics though.

I know, I just wanted to get into a
bit more and show you

the performance and if I wasn't
like in the right, doing it right...

Just remember the show must always
go on, just remember that.

To hear Mia stumble on my track was
a bit heartbreaking to be honest.

You sound really great. You sound
great.

I could see it on her face
that she was nervous.

This is a competition
and we obviously have to take

that into account, but we'll give
you another chance, yeah.

Yep.

# And now I'm praying to another god

# I found nirvana in my hands
on your body

# And if it's sinning,
I'm a sinner, so what?

# We're in heaven now, heaven now

# Heaven now, heaven now

# Heaven now, heaven now

# We're in heaven now, heaven now

# Heaven now, heaven now

# We're in heaven now, heaven now

# We're in heaven, we're
in heaven now. #

Thank you.

It sounded like a really
complete song.

I could hear that in a rave,
being re-mixed in with Afterglow.

It was a song that I think could
Good job. Good job.

But we have to take into
consideration the false start.

I just wish you hadn't stopped
but, it is what it is.

I do think there's a chance
that I'm in the bottom two just

because simply I stopped and it is
something they can nit-pick at.

But I really don't want to be out
today.

Next up is Dylan.
Thank you.

I'm feeling fairly confident going
into this because I feel like

I've made a song that I am proud
of so I hope that they like it.

Thank you.

# Oh, do you miss
the taste of my lips on your tongue

# On your thighs, on your skin,
on your hips?

# You took my love for granted

# So this is the end, ooh

# Don't think it's all over

# You can tell your friends

# When you're in your bed

# You know I'm in your head

# And you'll just have to accept
that I'm over you

# Yeah, I'm over you

# Na na na, na na na, na na na

# Na na na na na

# Still be in my head

# You did just what you said

# Yeah, yeah

# I'm all over you. #

Wow! You can hear you running
Thanks.

I thought it was really,
really good, Dylan.

You had everything in there,
Thank you.

I felt like the verse melody could
have been a little stronger.

OK.

Vocally,
it could have been a lot better.

Good, not a great performance.
Cool.

Wow! We are split on this, right?

I had mixed reviews from the judges.

Becky was totally into it,
which was wicked.

Frank mentioned that the
vocal might not have

been as strong as he would
have hoped.

Okeam, showtime.

Thank you.

The only thing that's going
through my head is hoping

that I remember the lyrics
because I know that it's probably

one of my biggest
downfalls as an artist.

My song has my personality
stamped all over it.

If Okeam can do better,
I'd like to see him try.

He's been in the sing-off twice.
I do think he's going to struggle.

# Sometimes I just wonder

# Do you think much, much about me?

# Cos you treated me like
I was just nothing

# I wish I could be something

# Something at all

# Something at all

# Keep your head up, vision blurry

# I can't look up at night

# Collateral damage

# Collateral damage

# Weeping and you're running

# And you're fighting

# You were always gonna lose. #

I have got to be honest,
Okeam, it wasn't

my favourite vocal
performance from you.

It was pitchy,
the majority of the performance.

I didn't love the rendition either,
I didn't think it was like

a strong song that could
compete on the charts today.

Yeah, the re-imagination didn't
work.

Singing wise it was off.
Let's just leave it there.

My whole performance was a shitshow.

I didn't feel like I was performing
a song that I was confident in.

Emelle, tell me what you
thought of Okeam's re-imagination.

You got my favourite words wrong.
Again?!

I'm so sorry.

I can't lie and say that he didn't
forget my words because he did.

You know, he's forgotten
the lyrics two weeks in a row.

That is pretty basic in terms
of being a musician.

It was a little bit sneaky.

But I just now know how to move.
Know what I'm saying?

Like, not everybody is your friend.

Next up is Emelle.

I'm a bit nervous of this
performance but I feel

like I've improved the song so,
I don't know what more they want.

Emelle, it's showtime.

# I know what you want

# I can tell by the way you look

# At me

# The way I feel for you

# You got me running and running
in circles screaming out your name

# I bet you like it
when I touch you like that

# Just like a record, you can
bring it right back

# Let's get it popping
with a bottle and get drunk

# Cos, baby, you're getting to me!

# Stay loving me

# Let your love take over

# Yeah. #

I almost want that song
for my own album.

Emelle,
that was the performance of the day.

You did such a good job with what
Okeam already had.

And to make it your own,
kudos to you, a very good job.

Oh, my God, thank you so much.

I am so happy like,
I feel like this is my week.

Okeam, what's your thoughts, man?

It reminds me of a song
that you could use in like a TV

advertisement for fried chicken.

This is his songwriting.

Fried chicken? I thought I was
giving swag,

but he obviously thinks I'm giving
fast food, do you know what I mean?

# I know you wanna go to the moon

# But if you don't go,
you'll never... #

Now, Jason, Frank and Becky must
decide who will be singing to

save their a*s.

For sure.

Emelle absolutely smashed
it out the park.

She crushed it.
I also like Barry.

I thought Barry did a great job.
Yeah, Barry was too.

For sure.

Dylan's performance, I thought
it was a low light for him.

I thought he did a very bad job.

So, it's slowly
edging down to the stardom front.

Okeam,
he just keeps letting us down.

This is the third time thus far that
he's forgotten the lyrics.

You would think after
getting to the bottom,

he would never forget
the lines again.

I think Mia had one of the top
two or three songs today.

But, I mean, you can't stop in
the middle of a performance.

If I was a paying customer,
I would want my money back.

What's up, guys?

This challenge was really
important to me

because I want the consummate
artist.

We feel the person that nailed
this the best...

..was Emelle.

Thank you so much.

You epitomised what a songmaker is

and I felt like you came in
and made your mark.

I'm not going to stop smiling now,
thank you.

One of you though,
didn't rise up to the challenge.

Okeam,

you forgot your lyrics again
and your performance was pitchy.

I can forgive one
but I can't forgive both.

You are the first artist that is
in danger of being dropped.

I felt like Emelle might be
throwing me underneath the bus.

Mia, what happened?

I let everything get to my head.

The song sounded pretty good
but because you stopped,

you're in danger of being dropped.

I understand the judges' decision
and why they picked me

to be in the bottom two.

Me and Okeam are very close

so it feels like we've gone from
friends to enemies right now.

It's time to sing to save your a*s.

Okeam and Mia must now sing
a cover of their choice to try

and keep their place
in the competition.

For one of them, their dreams
of being signed to Jason's

label will be over and they will be
going home.

This is not
the end of the road just yet.

But unfortunately, one of you still
has to be dropped from Project Icon.

Mia, you're up first.
Okeam, you can be seated.

Tell us, what have you decided to
sing for us today?

My song is called All For You
by Cian Ducrot.

I want to show off my voice
and I feel like you haven't seen

my tone yet or what I usually sing
when I'm out busking on the streets.

OK, Mia,

it's showtime.

# Is it too late?

# Forgive me

# Did you mean what you said?

# Are you angry?

# Lost more than a friend,
now I'm on my knees

# And I don't know why I'm
praying tonight

# But if you can hear me

# Tell me that you hear me

# And I should have called

# And I should have tried

# And I should have walked
you home every night

# But now I'm just a little too late

# To be what you needed

# But I hope that he is

# I hope that he calls

# I hope that he tries

# I hope that he walks you
home every night. #

Thank you.

OK, all right, Mia.

Thank you.

I think this one is going
to be very difficult to decide.

I felt a bit more comfortable after
I did that but I'm still

a bit nervous about it,
I really don't want to be out today.

Okeam.

Come on up, bro.

So what have you decided
to sing for us?

I'm going to sing Marvin Gaye,
Let's Get It On.

OK.

Marvin Gaye has always been a huge
inspiration for me

and I feel like it shows my range.

All right. Well, let's get it.

# I've been really trying, baby...

He's singing the sexiest
song on this planet.

# Trying to hold back this feeling,
oh!

# Let's get it on

# Ooh wah

# Let's get it on

# Sugar

# Let's get it on, whoa whoa

# There's nothing wrong with me

# Loving you, oh baby

# Love, love, love, love

# And giving yourself to me
can never be wrong

# If the love is true, oh, baby

# Let's get it on!

# Oh, bah-boo, let's get it on

# Yeah

# Yeah, let's get it on

# Ooh

# Let's get it on. #

Mia's like less
experienced than I am.

I'm going to feel bad
if I do send her home.

Thanks for those
performances, both of you.

But unfortunately, when you get back
up here, one of you will be dropped.

Come on in, guys.

That was one of my favourite
performances by Okeam.

Whenever he is singing someone
else's song,

that's when he's shining.

He's never shining
singing his own stuff.

Okeam continually lets us down,
he makes mistakes.

But he knows when he gets onto that
stage, when he's in the bottom two,

that he can go and pull that out and
we're all like, "Whoa!"

Do you think you may be
dropped tonight?

I don't think I would
but I-I'd love to stay.

Mia is 18, we all say that she
still needs to grow.

I think she needs to catch up
with the others in terms

of her confidence
and with her performance.

Do you think you might be dropped?

I have a gut feeling that
I might be dropped.

After all of that, who goes home?
Who goes home?

They're ready for us.

Deliberations over, it's time for
Mia and Okeam to face the music.

Two amazing performances, but
unfortunately, one person has to go.

Okeam, I told you before I didn't
want to see you

in the bottom two again.

Mm-hm.

Mia, today, you let your
insecurities get the better of you.

We have decided who will be dropped.

Okeam,

you have been dropped
from Project Icon.

Thank you so much for the
Thank you, Okeam.

Appreciate you, Okeam, you've been
a bright light on our show.

You can take your mic
and head on home.

All right, man.
See you later.

I have no regrets. I feel like this
is just only the beginning for me.

I just can't wait to go back home
and put Birmingham on the map.

Hopefully, I done it proud.

Come here.

I'm so motivated to keep going,
I've had so many people doubt me

with my music.
I kind of want to prove them wrong.

Now Okeam has gone, only five
artists remain in Project Icon.

But only one will win the record
deal of a lifetime.

Next time, the artists
swap the studio for the set.

We want you to create an
iconic music video.

Tensions in the group begin
to surface.

We'll let the penguin dancers
get their make-up done.

There are some people that
have coasted.

Who coasted?

I didn't realise it was
the Barry Show.

And one won't make the cut.

Someone needs to be dropped from
Project Icon.

And that person is...
