So, I'm buying these
decommissioned government vehicles...

to help reimagine them
to serve this community again,

just in a different way.

Explain how we got here.
Start at the beginning.

Yeah. Okay. The beginning.

Since I was a kid,
I've always loved to build,

whether it was forts, bikes, go-karts.
I just love to create.

As I got older, my passion for building
turned into huge vehicles.

- Oh, this is amazing! Look at this thing.
- Dude...

I got a lot of 'em.
Fire trucks, city buses, semi-trailers.

Which ones are his?

- They're all his.
- He said he bought two.

I saw really good machines
being discarded,

sold off, when I knew
they still had a lot of life.

But I knew they could serve
a higher purpose.

{\an8}I decided to reimagine, repurpose,
and renovate these vehicles.

Out here in the fields

I wanted to turn these vehicles
into something incredible.

I fight for my meals

And I wanted to do it
for communities...

Let's go.

...and for kids all over the world.

Woah.
Let's show Hawkeye how we play soccer.

Nice job.

So, I teamed up with four organizations
that help kids in need.

Based in four different communities
spread across the planet.

So, for each community,
I rebuilt an old vehicle

and gave it a new purpose

to help each organization
fulfill their mission.

We're going to change this truck
into a water filtration truck.

{\an8}A mobile dance studio.

A music studio bus.

- A mobile rec center.
- Yes!

Then I gave them the reimagined vehicles.

Yes, yes. Yes, I love that.

- I was still talking.

I also brought along

some talented and familiar friends
to help me deliver them.

To do the work,
I assembled a rockstar team of builders.

How long do we have to build
this one, Jeremy?

Yeah, we got two or three weeks
on this thing.

And finally, I needed a co-pilot
on this global journey.

And that's where Rory comes in.

Yes, it's about time.

it just feels like home to me.

And I like that it's a slower pace.

There's no rat race here
and a bunch of chaos,

and a bunch of distractions.

It's just been wonderful

to really get involved
in the community here.

What I've learned is that
there's very little that needs to be done

to make a giant difference
that anybody can do.

When it got out
that I own dozens of fire trucks,

city buses, semi-trailers,
street sweepers, and I was buying more,

my friends thought I was a bit crazy.

Welcome, I'm glad you made it.
Come and have a seat.

{\an8}So this guy came to check on me.
He had no idea what he's walking into.

There's a lot of concern
on the Avengers family chat.

Like, you know, "What is Renner doing?"

"He's got, like, 30 fire trucks
and these buses. What is he doing?"

- I'm getting a lot of phone calls.
- Renner's in the mountains. Check on him.

"Yeah, please.
He's going all off the rails."

And I probably did go off the rails.

Now, I have to fill you in a little bit...

- Okay.
- ...of what the hell I'm doing.

This is why I answered the call...

- Exactly.
- ...'cause I knew every time you call

- it's something unique.
- It's just...

What I was originally doing was buying
these decommissioned government vehicles.

And a lot of these machines were built
to service community in one way,

but that was meant to do one certain thing
to help service the community.

I hated seeing them go waste.

So, like, what I'm trying to do
is repurpose them, reimagine them,

and renovate them
to serve this community back again,

just in a different way.

This is dope.

- This is official.
- Yeah, like 14 years ago.

This is how we started our day

{\an8}in the desert.

{\an8}I guess I don't think about it.

{\an8}Every time we go out...

{\an8}it's life or death. You roll the dice.

{\an8}You recognize that, don't you?

This is amazing.

- Not even a third of what I got...

...in the lot down below.

- Yeah. Yeah.

This is one of the few fire trucks
that can also move

and spray at the same time.

It's got turrets up top and in the front,
it's got sprays in the bottom.

So, I took these fire trucks
that once put out airplane fires,

but now, I'm gonna have them spray
with these turrets

to prevent forest fires
in this community.

There's a method to the madness.

That's a lot of method.

I get why it looks crazy.

I get why.

- It sounds a little crazy.
- That's how I know I'm on the right path.

I thought you were up here
playing bumper cars.

I mean, the street sweeper
is a bit extreme,

but everything else I'm with...

everything else I'm with.

- But the street sweeper... Yeah, I know.
- The street sweeper, I don't know.

- I think that was you just, you know,

- you were reaching.

I keep vehicles close to home,
ready to be reimagined, repurposed,

and renovated to serve communities
in a new way.

Yeah, I know. There's a lot of them.

I needed one for an incredible program
right here in my backyard.

Big Brothers and Big Sisters
of Northern Nevada.

The communities they serve are spread out,
and they need places to meet up.

So we built a mobile recreation center.

This was a very ambitious build,

but I knew the perfect vehicle
to start with,

a Ford F-650 Shuttle Bus.

You recognize it?
You've probably ridden in one.

All right.
Let's start at the beginning of the build.

- A-ha!

- Oh, God! Dammit!

It did.

{\an8}One thing about Rory.
He's very sensitive about his hair.

But his relentless enthusiasm...

- Wow.
- ...is great for the team.

Jeremy is intertwined
in the Reno community

far more than I probably even understand.

My kids love coming here.
There's great people.

And I think the people
are what make the place special.

Hey, Cor, get a little wash going there.

What do you think, buddy?

{\an8}If Rory is the team cheerleader,
Corey is the team doctor.

He oversees the health of my fleet.

There's over 200 vehicles,
so it's a huge job.

The guy's a magician with engines.

I'm a heavy-equipment mechanic.

I've been a part of this project
for two years collecting all the vehicles.

So, I've seen a lot of it come together
from the very beginning.

Since I got hooked up with Jeremy,
I've been doing all kinds of stuff.

When something goes really wrong,
I'm the guy to call.

Pretty solid, Bender.

It's not too bad. All right, this'll work.

Yeah.

{\an8}That's Bender.
He's got the toughest job here.

When he's stressed, he grabs that goatee.
Look out for that.

But if anyone can build my crazy ideas,
he can.

He's the best there is.

Jeremy is super-creative person,
which I enjoy.

But, yeah, I kind of thought he was crazy.

But the more I thought about it,
the more excited I got about it.

You know what it means to me.
So, let's have some fun and get it done.

I'm gonna be totally useless in this demo.

But as long as I look good doing it,

And, Rory,
be careful with the tools, please.

It'll take me about an hour
to get one seat out,

so just bear with me.

I don't know how to work the ratchet.

I tried and I screwed it up so badly,
they threw me under the bus and said,

"You're there for the heavy lifting."

These are heavier than they look,

This is not what I signed up for.

That didn't make as big a noise
as I was hoping.

Rory is a very nice and charming man,

but he's kind of a bull in a China shop.

That's Roxy.

She's a military veteran
turned metal fabricator.

So, you can say
she has a certain set of skills.

{\an8}I'm a welder fabricator,

{\an8}figuring out problems
is something I think I'm strong at,

and I get to go build cool things
for people.

It's really that easy and simple.

It's pretty random.
But I was just thinking,

we're taking apart a bus with Hawkeye.

Yeah, my face.

It has seen where a bunch of butts
have been in life.

{\an8}I am a metal fabricator by trade.
I've been doing it for about 21 years.

In the grand scheme of things,

I love what I do
more than the money it makes me.

There's that passion that's carried me
through all these years.

- This is superhero stuff right here.
- This is so super sanitary.

I know he's not gonna do it.

you're wondering what goes in
a mobile recreation center.

I know it sounds like a playground
on wheels,

but it's much more interesting than that.

The idea came to life when we met up with
Big Brothers Big Sisters

of Northern Nevada
right in my own backyard.

I'm seriously... I'm frozen.

Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
It just went down my back!

Hulk, smash!

Seriously.

Oh! What about the movie star?

The Avenger guy?

That was fun, hey?

- Those are chickadees?
- Yes.

Put it on his hair.

Yeah.

I'm trying not to...

- That was unbelievable!
- That was a'ight.

I don't even know how to do this anymore.

how you feel about your mentor.

- Good.

- Safe.

How did you guide your family
when you were growing up?

I was just blessed with love.

I always had love in my life,
in my family.

That's... I feel like should be normal.
Right?

And that's what I love about this...
Your mentors

and the Big Brothers Big Sisters,
is 'cause they fill in the gaps of, like,

to create that as normalcy for you guys.

And by the way, you deserve it.

So what has the Big Brothers Big Sisters
been meaning to you in your life?

It's actually been pretty good.
It's like someone you can vent to. Like...

- Yeah.
- It's good to have, like,

- someone to talk to about some stuff.
- Yeah.

- Helped me build confidence in school.
- Yeah.

I kind of see my Big Brother
as a father figure

'cause we don't have a father figure
at our house.

- Right.
- My mom, she says, like,

- what she couldn't do, he's taught me.
- Yeah.

So I really look up to him
as an inspiration.

That's pretty awesome.

Say, if Rory wants to be a Big Brother...

We're asking that you hang out once a week
for a minimum of an hour a week.

But that's it. An hour a week.
That's all it takes.

- Does an hour of video games count?

- Yeah. Right?
- Oh, I'm in!

- I'll do five hours a week. No problem.
- Oh, God.

Yeah. And it's the stuff you do,
you just bring a kid with you.

- Yeah.
- The kids that we're serving

faced a ton of challenges.

{\an8}When you have a community member
like Jeremy Renner...

step up and pay attention
to something like this,

and want to hear our story,
and want to get involved...

it makes you really appreciate them.

- Yeah.
- Graduation rate for the kids we serve

- was a hundred percent last year.
- Wow.

- Hundred percent.
- Unbelievable.

{\an8}We focus on serving families that
are from disadvantaged circumstances.

That are struggling
with issues of poverty.

We know that our kids have the opportunity
to do great things in life.

And so, we're there to support that

and give them chances
that otherwise they wouldn't have.

So what are some of the needs
of the organization?

A constant challenge
is meeting the kids where they're at.

Yeah.

A lot of the kids are forced
to move to outlying areas

just because the cost of living

- has gotten so high.
- Right. Right.

Just transportation to be able
to meet and greet

and stuff is a big deal.

It's something
that people take for granted.

- Yeah. I got some ideas.
- Yeah.

Yeah. Totally. Does he ever?

- My brain's turning right now.
- Yeah.

I got some ideas.

Look at all this junk food
you have in my car.

- I have bird seed in my hair...
- What the...

...and scratches on the other side
of my face from getting that

- the ice block chucked at... I got...
- That kid smoked you.

- Oh, man.
- Those weren't snowballs,

- those were chunks of glaciers.
- No, no, no.

- That was a boulder.
- Seriously.

- Yeah. And by the way...
- I can...

- ...I've never had more fun...
- I know.

- ...in a very long time.
- Those kids were amazing.

Oh, yeah.
My mind's been racing since...

on this vehicle.

But I got some really, really great ideas,
I'm pretty inspired

with what to do with one of these buses.

That experience kickstarted my ideas.

I wanted Big Brothers and Big Sisters
to have a meeting spot

that could come to them...

with things that kids love.

Like sports, arts, and technology.

I'm not sure how we'll fit that all
into one vehicle.

But we're gonna try.

Hi. So, we just had a wonderful,
wonderful, wonderful experience

with Big Brothers Big Sisters.

We had a little snowshoeing excursion...

...which was physically challenging
for both of us.

It was exhausting.

The biggest issue
with Big Brothers Big Sisters

in succeeding even more
is having outreach for bigger areas

in greater Northern Nevada.

But let's let our imagination
be our only limitation here.

And then maybe Bender can give us a...

"...Well, maybe we can't do that."

All right. This one's for my hometown.

I'm so excited.

We're building a full-on
mobile recreation center

with activities inside and outside.

Inside, I want three areas,

a lounge in the front,
and then a tech center in the middle.

I'd love to pack with TVs, gaming,
a computer, and a 3D printer.

And in the back, we need a private office
for tutoring and counseling.

Outside is even better.

There's a covered area with tables
and chairs for arts and crafts,

a soccer goal on the side,

and a basketball hoop on the back.

And I want this thing to be strong enough
so even Rory can dunk.

And most importantly,
all this gear has to pack up

for trips to different communities.

All right, so Corey, you know,
what do you think?

You're the one that knows and manages
all the chaos

I've created in the yard
with the 200 vehicles.

Yeah, I think this one
will work very well.

It's 2008 F-650, plenty of room.

I think it's got 200-some thousand miles,
still got a lot of life.

The body is much more like an RV already.

- To add an awning on and stuff like that.
- Right, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

This could also be, like,
where they take people, go, and recruit.

- How many lives is it going to change?
- Yep.

And who knows what
that one life that you change

could be the next president United States.

Bender, as the head of the build on this,
what are you thinking?

I think it's a great canvas.

- We have a nice common area in the front.
- Correct.

Just some seating, hang out,

chat, talk, play video games,
whatever that is.

Some of the concerns would be, you know,
power generation.

- What we're going to use for power.
- Right,

'cause this... This doesn't have...
This is like a shuttle bus

- for an airport most likely...
- Yeah. No, no power.

So coming up with a generator,
then because it's built like an RV,

that means we've got a lot of fiberglass
on this thing, it's not metal

- or aluminum like a normal bus. So...
- Right.

...the fiberglass roof is...
Concerns me a little bit.

The fiberglass back of that bus
might be a little flimsy.

I think it could be done.

But to try to check all the boxes
it should...

I'd have to get in it,
and kick some walls down, and see what...

Yeah, okay, well,
let's get you in it as soon as possible,

but 'cause we need this yesterday, okay?

- What's the timeline?
- The spring's about to kick in.

And I think the kids should have this
for warm weather.

Hopefully, I can give you
everything that you asked for...

We'll rush as fast
as we can, but do it safely.

And then we can get real creative. Bender.

There was a big list of boxes
that needed to be checked on this bus.

I wasn't sure how this was gonna work.

With a project like this,
there is no blueprint.

It's all just taking
that creative thought

and trying to make it reality.

When we're on the shop,

I came up with some drawings,
I sketched them out last night.

After we talked
about what you wanted to do.

AK, you can lead this up
to get the back of this thing done.

I know your skills
with all kinds of things.

Merri, from the back side,

there's gonna be some
pretty heavy fab in there.

I think that's going to play
to your strengths.

- Absolutely.
- There's going to be

some challenges. The whole back
of this thing is fiberglass.

- Yeah.
- So, I think that's why, like, AK,

Ski, and Roxane are gonna be a good team
to try to figure this thing out.

We're gonna have to have
a superstructure back there,

gonna need some real skill on that one.

I was tasked with trying to figure out
how to put an adjustable basketball goal

on the back of the bus.

{\an8}When I came to join this team,
they said they needed a fabricator

that solves unusual problems.
Roger that, I'm there.

I feel like my training in the military

has helped me to become someone
that they can depend on

to help them figure it out,
solve problems

and keep moving forward.

We can tack-weld this together.

And drill all of it at one time.

- Yeah.
- In the drill press.

First off, the basketball goal,
we're talking 30, 40 pounds.

Okay, look,
AK is a great metal fabricator.

It's a basketball hoop.
Goal is for soccer.

Okay, let's get back at it.

Now, the back of the bus,

the entire shell of this bus
is made out of fiberglass,

and it's not strong enough
to support that weight.

So, when we pulled
the interior panels out,

we found out
that we were gonna have to reinforce

the entire back of this bus.

- AK, I got these pieces for you.
- Sweet, sweet, sweet.

- Perfect.
- Right there.

- Yep.
- The shuttle bus

seemed pretty ambitious.

But the first time that anyone told me
that it was going to be a project

that was gonna be helping people,
I was super excited about that.

Come to find out it was for kids
and I even got more excited

because I was in group homes
when I was a kid.

So, being able to give back to kids
who are in need or who have passions,

it's great. I can help fuel that
with my building.

That's all I need at the end of the day.
So, I'm just happy to be here.

When we make this...

we're gonna make it adjustable.

- When we put it on the side...

the whole soccer net will fold down,
and we put it up when we're driving,

so, we don't have to take it down
off the wall.

We can just leave it there.

who built something

and have it fall apart. Just saying.

it's gotta teach 'em somehow.

I grew up in my dad's garage.

{\an8}We rebuilt transmissions,
rear ends, and now I'm a welder.

I weld for a company
in Southern California.

But out of high school,

I had no idea
what I was gonna do with my life.

I actually went to school
for hairdressing.

I worked at a salon for like six weeks.
And that was the end of that.

All right, now let's see if they lineup.

fabricate a soccer net

that folds up off the side of the bus
for the kids to play soccer with.

One thing I love most about welding
and fabricating

is the ability to create
almost anything I need.

I've always liked cars, building things,

and making stuff different
than anybody else,

and I didn't always have the money
to pay for it.

So it was cheaper if I learned
to do it myself.

Perfect.

When you give a kid continuity,
consistency, that just builds confidence.

I mean, we're having a kick-a*s fun time
doing this regardless.

- There's such a deep purpose behind it.

Kids need mentors.

Without a helping hand,
they're alone and adrift.

Pushed this way and that way
by whatever's around.

But with the right role models,
anything's possible.

This build is designed
to give these relationships

a place to thrive. To help kids succeed.

we didn't know if it was actually
gonna work unless we actually tried it.

But I think the final test

what her future looks like.

my own company with that.

- You have a real focus and directive.

I didn't find
what I just wanted to do in my life

until I was, like, in college,
fumbling around.

I got accepted to Berkeley,
I got accepted to some really good schools

- but we didn't have a lot of money.

And so, no one could afford
to get me to there.

So my dad just said
to go to the junior college,

take these classes or transfers.

Take whatever else you want,
but go fail, Son.

- "Go fail."
- And what that did,

- is freed me to go try in anything.
- In anything, yeah.

I just kind of threw a dart
at the dartboard,

then there's classes, like,
"I'll take a piano class,

- "a speech class," I took a...
- Yeah, yeah.

...acting class. I was like, ah,
I knew nothing about acting.

- Yeah.
- And I just took that.

I'm thinking I just had the courage.
There was no pressure.

- Yeah.
- My dad relieved me of my own pressure,

or his pressure, or anybody's, right?

So it really, really set me on a journey
to explore and try things.

Yeah, 'cause you end up realizing
what you actually like.

Yeah, then I found, you know, acting,

and that kind of worked out all right,
you know?

Imagine the possibilities,
what you can do.

The biggest drama of the shuttle bus

for sure is the amount of work
that has to go in.

It was gutted,
so there was so much to remove,

so much to put in.

You wind it up, and we'll push.

My biggest issue now is we've got TVs,


How are you going to power this thing?

The most feasible thing
I would say at the moment, for time,

is a diesel generator.

You know, we deleted
the HVAC system on this thing.

So we have a lot of real estate
underneath it.

- A diesel generator, yeah.
- 'Cause this diesel, we tap...

tap right into the line.

We can plumb it directly
into the diesel tank,

so that when they fill the bus up,
it's done.

The issue is availability.
Like, can we even find a generator?

Yeah, on short notice.

'cause I got an idea.

If you come back with some bicycles
