This is my worst nightmare.
I quit. I'm over it.
I'm pissed, man. I'm boiling inside.
It's obvious everyone's in it
for themselves now.
12 strangers from across Britain
are arriving in South Africa.
Stripped of all creature comforts,
they're going to be tested
in the hostile environment
of the Eastern Cape...
Push! It's cold!
..as they embark
on an unforgiving 18-day trek...
Oh, my God! My whole body hurts.
..to win a share of 300 grand
waiting at the finish line.
But standing between them
and the money...
..we've built a series of incredible
temptations... Oh, my God!
..from everyday treats
to big luxuries that will make
their journey easier.
Guys, there's hot water.
But there's a catch.
They come with the world's
highest prices.
3,000 per double bed.
It's a lot. For 3,500?
I can have 19 parties.
And every pound they spend will be
deducted from the shared prize pot.
This is absolute t*rture.
So if one person gives in
to temptation,
everyone will pay for it.
You're spending everybody's money.
I am pissed off with you all.
We live in a world where we can get
what we want the second we want it.
So can we put off
our immediate desires
for the sake of a longer term goal?
I'm not sleeping in a three grand
bed. I'm built different.
I doubt it.
Would you give in
to peer pressure...
I need something to get me
through this.
But you could do that
outside of this environment
and not spend other people's money.
..or temptation?
Welcome to the dark side.
Are we going to do this, guys?
Come on.
We're going to do it, everybody.
Come on. Yeah, all right. In. In.
CHEERING
I want to take part in this because
you're never too old to do anything.
I don't know what you could offer me
that I would give in to,
but a night with George Clooney
covered in chocolate?
That's it. I'm gone.
I'm always the underdog.
People don't see me coming,
so they always count me out.
And then when their back is turned,
I just take the crown.
I am the most competitive person
in Africa right at this moment.
I don't lose at nothing. I want to
pay for my daughter's degree,
so I don't want anybody
spending any money.
That's where we start!
That's where we get started, guys.
Once these 12 strangers
walk through the entrance,
they'll step into a world
of endurance and temptation,
an 18-day arduous journey
across some of the toughest terrain
in Africa
that will test their mental
and physical strength.
They'll come face-to-face
with the Book of Temptations
that will offer them the chance to
buy what they are craving the most.
But every temptation they take
will reduce the shared prize fund
at the end.
Someone's coming!
Taxi, please!
CHEERING
Hello, everybody! Hello!
Welcome to the Eastern Cape
in South Africa.
Ahead of you lot
is a gruelling 18-day trek.
Make it to the end and you'll win
a share of up to 300 grand.
CHEERING
And along the way,
you're going to find temptations.
Temptations that will make your life
a lot easier. Oh, my God.
But everything comes at a price.
OK?
You can buy as many temptations
as you like, but every temptation
you buy, the price of that will be
knocked off your prize fund.
So all of you
will be footing the bill
for what any one of you
splashes out on.
And if any of you can't make it
to the end of this journey,
25 grand... What?! ..will be
knocked off the prize money.
OK? Now, that's the start line.
When you make your way through
that turnstile, you're going to find
water supplies and a map. OK?
Best of luck to you all.
Get yourself through there.
CHEERING
I'm the first!
Oh, my God. Right, I'm not carrying
the water. I feel like
Dora the Explorer
with these maps, guys, God.
They've got everything they need -
camping equipment, basic food,
tents. But have they got
everything they want?
That's a different story.
So we walk across and then we get
to the forest bit over there.
We cross it to the sand dunes
and go straight to camp.
Following the map, each day the
group will be pushed to their limits
on a gruelling trek
to a camp checkpoint.
Today, they will have to confront
some of South Africa's
biggest sand dunes before
encountering their first temptation.
They can skip the journey
and take a short cut,
but it will cost them big money.
Guys, you ready? Let's go. Whoo!
We leave no man behind.
If you're struggling, let us know.
No-one's left behind.
We're in South Africa, baby.
Come on!
Obviously got to fit the stereotype
of a Greek family,
we've got fish and chip shop.
I'd like to think I'd be good
at not giving in to temptations.
I know it's a team-based thing
but I think I'm gonna excuse
anyone for giving in.
We don't really know what's
going to happen or what's beyond
those bushes, but that looks
pretty hazardous at there.
To reach the £300,000 fortune,
the group will need to carry
everything they need,
including 30 litres
of drinking water a day.
Can everyone drink water
so I can empty this thing?
The idea that 25,000 is taken
for every person that leaves
definitely ups
your individual value.
I think it just means
that we're going to have to take
better care of each other
because we're very, very valuable.
I just think, like, the money can go
down rapid. It's hard, isn't it?
Cos people are going to take...
And I don't want to be a d*ck,
but I will be a d*ck
if someone wants to be an a*s.
Three weeks from now, we're going to
laugh our a*s off. I'm like,
oh, my God, ain't we so rich?
THEY LAUGH
So I might look all glam
on the outside
but, you know, inside here
and inside there,
I'm strong as an ox.
Being on this experience, if someone
has got, like, a weak willpower,
I'm going to tell them about it.
Like, "You're weak."
So yous are from America, yeah?
Yeah, I grew up in Michigan,
lived in Florida. Have you
been to the UK, then? Yeah, yeah.
I've been in the UK
the last 20 some years.
Such a range of individuals, like,
you don't know who's going to crack.
I don't know if I'm going to crack.
You don't know how we're going
to cope with each other, who's the
chief? So we'll see how it goes.
There's inevitably bound to be
clashes of personalities
and different energies bouncing
around and flying around.
A lot of big egos here.
Who do you think's the strongest?
I reckon...James.
I think James, yeah.
But I think at the end
we'll be a cohesive group.
Oh, I'm incredibly impulsive.
I'm awful.
The amount of times
I've booked flights when I'm...
I've had a couple of drinks,
I've booked flights and got on
the same day with no plan at all.
I don't have willpower, but if I am
able to overcome my own urges
and other people are giving in,
then I'm going to feel very let down
What if our weaknesses is a person?
The weakness to the group.
Yeah, I know what you're saying.
Do you know what I'd Like? A slushy.
I'm not good, I'm not going to lie.
She's struggling.
She's having a bad time.
I'm... I'm tired of walking.
Come on. We gotta keep up.
Don't give up now. Come on.
What you missing? My phone.
Aren't you going to miss chocolate?
In 18 days' time, I'm going to stuff
this face so full of chocolate
it's going to be dribbling!
Oh, she's really struggling.
I think it was just that first shock
of coming in and suddenly realising
that she can't have all her bits.
She's of the age where she's
surgically attached to her phone.
I just hope she makes it through.
The pack is a big mix.
We got the inexperienced,
we got the experienced.
As of right now,
everything seems cool.
Hopefully it'll stay that way.
Don't freak out. But?
Look at these dunes up ahead.
You seeing this, brother?
Up ahead, one of the steepest
sand dunes in the Eastern Cape,
as high as a 12-storey building.
Loaded up with their kit,
they'll need to use every muscle
in their body
to wrestle against
the deep sliding sand.
Oh, my God, look at this.
The closer I get to it,
it's pretty steep, bro.
It's an illusion. Is it?
I think it'll be when we're there.
I dunno, though. I think there's
an elevator at the bottom anyway.
Guys, this is like an uphill climb.
Yeah, I'm trying to figure out
how we're going to get
everybody up here. Yeah, I know.
That's just unreal.
Like, I'm looking at it
and I'm like,
how are we all supposed to do this?
Let's give it a go.
I'm going to use this as a wedge.
HE LAUGHS
Yeah, OK, now feel it.
Take your time. Don't k*ll yourself.
I think you're going to burn
all your energy. Don't embarrass me.
I need a helicopter! ASAP!
It's so steep.
I thought we would just be doing
walking. I did not expect that.
Ready? Come on,
just push it, push it.
If I look fabulous, I am fabulous.
It's like you're running
on the spot.
You're not actually moving anywhere.
Don't you dare give in.
Come on. Come on.
Whoa. We're almost there.
Someone get me a limo!
I'm ready for my first temptation.
HE LAUGHS
Yes! Come on!
Whoo!
I'm going to be honest with you.
That was one of the biggest
challenges I've done.
Ah! Yes. Yeah!
It's your world, girl.
Thank you.
Come on, baby.
I'm just gonna pretend
I was sunbathing.
I was a bit freaked out
cos of how steep it is,
but I just thought, mate,
gotta crawl like a cat, ain't ya?
15 minutes after James and Charlie
reach the summit...
Push. That's it, push.
..Lani and Carolynne are just
one third of the way up.
Left. Right. Don't look at the top.
Just keep going. It's so far away!
Come on.
We need help here, please, guys.
I've never met people
that are so kind of..."uncapable".
Are we going to get a temptation?
And is Lani going to crumble?
We might need to go down
and help Lani. Come on.
Yeah. Come on. Remember, she leaves,
that's 25 K gone.
See, look, these guys
have come down.
I promise you,
you got this, you know.
SHE GROANS AND GRUNTS
That's it.
There we go. Trust me. It's never
ending! No, no, but when
you're up there, you'll know
it's ending and you can chill.
Lani! Lani! Lani!
That's it, there we go.
CHEERING
They're cheering for you.
That's it. That's it. There we go.
Yeah, one last push.
Yes! Come on.
CHEERING
I'm so proud of you.
So proud of you.
It was f*cking hard. I hated it.
I'm lazy and I don't, like...
I drive everywhere.
Literally, like, even
to the corner shop. In my head,
I'm like, oh, my God, is it going
to get even worse than that? Like,
it was such a struggle, like,
literally almost impossible.
Time to face their first temptation.
Across the next 18 days,
our group will be tempted with
easier ways to do their routes.
But as we know,
everything comes at a price.
Oh, we got a temptation up there.
Temptation!
To take a short cut
to their first campsite,
it'll cost three grand each.
The Book of Temptations. Whoo!
Come on.
We're going to grow to hate
this book, I think.
"Welcome to the easy route.
The route ahead runs through a field
"of arduous and quad-burning
sand dunes.
"So why not avoid all that pain
and help yourself to the easy route?
"Jump on the back of one of the
quad bikes and you and your bag
"will be whisked away
to your next campsite."
"It's up to each of you to decide
whether you want to take it.
"The price is on display."
It's 3,000. Three grand.
Oh, yeah, no. Three grand, f*ck off.
We ain't doing that.
Hey, everybody happy
about keep going?
No-one one's taking the easy route?
No-one's going the easy...
We all want to go home with a bunch
of money, right? ALL: Yes! Let's go!
How are you feeling, Lani, are you
all right? Well, no-one asked me.
I feel you guys should ask people.
Don't assume for me, like, do you
know what I mean? Do your thing.
No-one's assuming. We're just
saying, let's do this together.
No, you guys all said
no-one's taking it, like you never
asked me. It's an individual choice.
We ain't gotta. They've asked us.
We ain't gotta. No, you said "we".
You guys said "we". Lani, do you
wanna take it? Yeah, but...
No, but I'm just saying, don't...
Please don't assume for me. OK.
But if you want to, then go. I would
just rather you asked. Well, I think
she can just go the other way,
if she wants to go the other way...
I'm not going, no, no, no,
I'm not going, but...
What Lani is saying,
we all need to be asked
individually.
Lani was definitely tempted
to take the quad bikes,
but I ain't spending three grand
out of my money
to go get a f*cking lift. Now way.
Let's try to make this
easy as possible.
Everyone's pushing me to the side,
I don't matter,
and if they continue to do that,
I'm going to get frustrated and then
I'm going to become a brat and I'm
going to spend all the money.
12 strangers are on a backbreaking
18-day trek across South Africa
to claim a share of 300 grand.
We've only given them basic supplies
but along their journey
they're going to be confronted
with temptations we've designed
to make their trip a little easier.
But every pound they spend
on indulgence
will come off their prize money.
Argh! Keep going.
If we take, like, a run.
Babe, do I look like I f*cking run?
Five hours in and the 300 grand
prize fund remains intact,
as everyone resisted
the short cut temptation.
So now they have to endure
miles of sand dunes.
Listen, that was the hardest
bit right there. Yeah.
Everything else is downhill.
Look at that.
We need your, like, inspirational
American accent. Let's get it.
Let's just go that way.
I've been a leader
since I was five years old.
No matter what the thing you got me
doing, I want to be a leader.
If I'm playing basketball,
I want to be the leader.
Well, no-one's quitting.
I'll make sure of that.
Come on, keep hiking.
It can't be too much further.
He said it's going to get easier.
It's not going to get easier.
There's more hills.
The quad bike would have been nice.
I keep thinking the sand dunes
have ended
and then there's just another one
and another one and another one.
But I'm hoping soon we'll be
somewhere near the camp.
If you want me to go faster,
just slap my arse. Oh, my God.
Wow. There it is, baby.
Oh, my goodness! We're home.
f*ck' 'ell.
Finally the group arrive
at the back to basics camp
with bog standard facilities.
Yep.
They'll have to do
a number two in a bucket.
But there's another option
which is way more appealing.
LAUGHTER
There's another temptation.
And it's a temptation
that will be available
at every campsite.
It's eight grand. Winnebago!
No. Anybody for the Winnebago?
No. It's just not my weakness.
I have my weakness.
And that's not it?
It isn't. What is it?
Lip gloss. Lip gloss.
Right, listen, someone
start the fire...
Right. Who's got the tent stuff?
Can I use that, please?
I kinda thought I was going to
have my own tent. I'm not gonna lie.
For me, this is a downside,
that I have to sleep with people.
And I understand it's gonna be cold,
but it's a bit weird
because at the end of the day,
we just met.
Ow! We are like a bunch of idiots
that don't know what we're doing.
All of us.
We're all, like,
chasing our own tails
and we're not getting anywhere.
It's already started
to get dark now.
It's got cold.
We need to get cracking.
Oh!
Oh, sh*t.
Day one, we've ripped the tent.
Have you shat in a bucket before?
I will now, I guess, right?
But we're all washing in
the bucket, yeah?
We can't get them mixed up
with our poop buckets.
I would literally die.
I'm just washing my underwear.
LAUGHTER
It smells like pee!
Give them a sniff...
I mean, they smell better.
See? You just gotta...
Beautiful, lock it up.
Yeah, cool.
That'll do, yeah?
After the six-mile trek and both
temptations of the day resisted,
the group can get to know each other
ahead of their first night
in the African wilderness.
I'm curious about, man,
what is your motivation
for doing this?
I've been widowed twice.
Aw... Can you imagine that?
First, when I was 25
and I was seven months pregnant.
Second, when I was 43 and my husband
died of a massive heart attack.
I'm sorry. But I still got up,
I still dusted myself down
and I still said,
"There's life out there,
so go out and bloody live it."
That's very inspirational. And
that's what I want you all to do.
So that's my motivation!
Very inspirational.
Live life.You look at Nana...
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
You look at this 65-year-old woman
who is out here
carrying two water
bottles up a hill...
Up a hill!
It shows so much strength, you know,
and that strength, everyone sees it.
I do appreciate everybody
not taking the temptations.
Yeah. Yeah.
For whatever that's worth, guys.
Well done. Well done.
Oi, a quick one.
Who do we all think,
yeah, is going to crack first?
If I really, really
need something...
..you know, I can't promise.
Just to come in with the attitude,
"I'm just going to take stuff,"
you're already telling yourself
that you don't have any willpower.
I think everyone
did great today, man.
Seriously, everybody. Yeah.
It came to a point where
everybody struggled.
Yeah. Even me.
If we all help each other,
we're all going home with
a lotta money. Yeah.
That's what I want
for all you guys, man.
I think we're going to
leave you, James,
to continue being
our faithful leader. Yeah...
Leader!
Leader! Solved. Yay!
Give it up, woo!
Give it up!
If anybody gets up in the night,
stick a log on that. Leave a gap for
me because I'm between you two.
Ooh-hoo!
Mwah! Mwah! Love you.
I feel like a f*cking ugly
butterfly trapped in a cocoon.
This tent is sh*t.
LANI SCREAMS
Sorry. There's a bug.
It really came in,
it came in my face.
It's worse than I ever imagined.
Sleeping on the floor isn't great
and it's cold and there's wind.
And you're in a tight space.
It's really bad.
You could do it maximum
for maybe one, two, three nights.
I actually slept
quite well, considering.
Well, I'm glad f*cking
one of us did.
Sorry. Someone in our tent
breathes like...
Like those snakes, I imagine.
Someone kept going like... "Pfft."
I was like, "Snake. It's a snake!"
Someone was snoring, I was like,
"It's a f*cking bear!"
LAUGHTER
I slept awfully.
I slept really, really badly.
Maybe 25 minutes in total.
I, I'm, like, craving a
warm coffee so much.
Right now, I mean,
a coffee for, like,
an amount of money,
I would easily take.
I'm knackered.
Oh, God.
I feel like I'm in prison.
Prisoner 624, open up!
Their rations for this 18-day trek
is solely rice and beans.
A daily intake of
just 1,000 calories each.
That's less than half
they eat at home.
I don't think I could eat this.
RETCHES
THEY LAUGH
Urgh.
So bad.
Hm.
LAUGHS
Urgh.
RETCHES
It's gritty.
MUFFLED: No, I can't.
COUGHS
SPITS
I can't eat that gruel.
I can't eat that gruel.
I wouldn't even feed that
to a gutter rat.
JAMES: How are we feeling about
the next day ahead?
As long as it's not a sand dune,
I'm happy.
Guys, this is our plan.
For today's challenge,
they'll need all their energy.
Six miles through unforgiving sand
and dense bush to
their next campsite.
And on their journey,
we're going to challenge them
to the first temptation of the day.
The chance to get their morning fix.
So what's everyone missing?
Coffee!
Oh, yeah. If they said,
"Here's a cup of coffee for 100,"
right now, I might
actually take that
cos that's only a little dent...
I wouldn't let you.
I know, sweetheart.
But think about at home...
..if somebody was like, this coffee
is going to be 100, you'd be like,
"No, thanks." I miss my coffee.
I have to say, I'm a bit unsettled.
Unsettled.
All right, guys, we're moving out.
OK! Moving on out!
Let's go.
You're going fast.
Sorry. Sorry.
LAUGHTER
I'm not doing them f*cking steps!
Just minutes after leaving camp,
the group stumble
across something us Brits
spend £5 billion on every year.
Oh, my God, it's a coffee van!
After a night's
broken sleep in the wild...
Oh, my God, a coffee's only 200.
..can they resist?
Man, you can get 200 coffees
back home for that.
It feels like these are mirages
in the middle of these sand dunes.
It's madness.
Can I just smell it, brother?
Is that all right?
I want a coffee. No.
No, Carolynne, no.
I'm just smelling it, all right?
I'm just making sure it's fresh!
That's my weakness.
I love coffee.
Everything's dripping inside.
It's like...
MAKES SQUELCHING NOISES
And the body's going,
"Coming, coming, coffee."
Thank you. Thank you.
Everybody, thumbs up or thumbs down?
I'm happy to skip.
Please can we go, so I can
get away from the pastries?
Everybody happy?
No. Yeah. Everybody happy?
Everybody, you good?
All right, let's keep it moving.
I think as a leader, my main task
is to help them understand
about the temptations, that
they don't actually need them.
I'm proud of myself.
I gave up.
The smell of that coffee was just...
Gosh, if I could have nicked a bean
and just spent my time sucking
it along, I would have done.
You could take the temptations
and have a great time here.
Then it just kills the pie.
Yeah, man. It's extremely selfish.
Come on, sweetie.
You're doing brilliant.
Come on.
It would be nicer if I had,
like, some of my stuff.
What sort of stuff
are you missing already?
My phone, my lip gloss.
Your phone, you can live without.
Even, like, deodorant.
I don't want to smell.
We're all gonna be in the same boat.
I know, but I don't like it.
I don't go hiking,
I don't go camping.
And, like,
they've taken all my stuff away.
I just feel like everyone's
on a different wavelength to me.
Everyone's talking about teamwork
and, like, I don't
care about teamwork.
If I want something,
why shouldn't I have it?
Lani, who's been kind of,
like, the slower one...
I feel like there's a bad energy
aiming towards her.
Having to spend a lot of time
comforting her and keeping
with her at the back and stuff.
And there's a lot of people
that are just complaining
all the time about her.
I don't want to climb that.
You lot go.
I'll catch up. I'm gonna pee.
Whoo!
People always think that I'm very
lazy and also really ditzy,
which isn't actually true
cops I got, like, six
A's on my A-levels,
but I don't mind people
thinking that I'm ditzy
cos I love playing
the underdog role.
Don't leave anyone behind.
The quicker we move,
the quicker we can get there.
Bloody hell. How do you expect
me to get that up there?
Oh!
Oh, my God.
THEY GRUNT
THEY BREATHE HEAVILY
We got people way back there.
We gotta wait.
CAROLYNNE GRUNTS
I want to go down and help them.
I just, I don't have the energy
because I wouldn't make it.
PANTS
36 hours in,
having resisted everything,
the £300,000 remains intact.
But with their rations
providing only 1,000 calories a day,
we've designed their
toughest temptation yet.
In the next valley, we've built
an all-American diner,
serving all the fast food
they could ever want.
It's a treat
I definitely couldn't resist.
Well, if I hadn't
already eaten today.
THUNDER RUMBLES
RAIN PATTERS
This is a disaster.
If I have to eat that
rice and beans again...
Absolutely foul.
I literally want to cry at
the thought of eating that tonight.
And it just tastes like horse shite.
Do you know what I'd do
for a Yorkshire pudding?
I don't wanna know what
you'd do for a Yorkshire pudding.
Yeah. You don't wanna know, darling.
THUNDER RUMBLES LOUDER
Whoa!
Oh, my God, guys. Look at this!
All of a sudden,
I'm on this surreal journey.
I'm in South Africa, in the wild,
and then all of a sudden,
you see a diner.
Oh, it's a mirage.
Oh... Coffee... Thank God.
THEY LAUGH
Back at home, almost half of us
eight fast food
at least once a week.
What is that?
GASPING
A diner.Yeah.
Shut up! Oh, my God.
What can I get you?
No. No. What can I get you?
This. I want a burger.
f*cking diner up in the middle
of nowhere?
Argh!
You never know
what's around the next corner.
And it looked so real.
How did they bring this here?!
I'm just taking it in.
Oh, she's f*cking deciding now.
We can't have none. This is mental.
LAUGHTER
SQUEALING
Mine! Oh, my God, a burger! No!
That looks sick.
Oh, my God! No!
Aw, I can smell the onions, bro.
A Juicy Beef Burger is 1,000
and an Oh, So Succulent Veggie
Burger is 1,000. This is mental.
Fries, 500, and shakes,
vanilla and chocolate, 500.
THEY GASP
Juicy Beef Burger Patty...
Oh, my God! That smells so good.
Ah...uh...
I want a milkshake.
I know, mate. I know.
JAMES: Snowball effect. One person
does it, then everybody does it.
And then we've lost half the money.
OK, I want a milkshake!
TENSE SYNTH MUSIC BUILDS
THUNDER RUMBLES
RAIN PATTERS
The group are now 48 hours
into a gruelling trek.
They've resisted all the temptations
we've put in their way,
but that could be about to change.
OK, I want a milkshake!
If Lani drinks the milkshake,
that will be £500
of the group's prize money gone.
Are you sure you want it?
Yeah. Can I have vanilla?
The money you're spending
is not your money.
It's everybody's money
you're spending.
I don't feel myself.
I feel really down
and I need a pick-me-up.
And it's better this
than me leaving.
That's 500 real, real, real bits of
money. Everybody's money.
I know, but it's my decision.
Life's more important than money.
You do realise if you do
this now, you cannot quit?
I'm not going to quit.
She spent 500, like, straightaway,
out of everyone's money.
Like, what the f*ck?
Listen, energies are
reciprocated, yeah?
If you f*ck with someone,
they'll f*ck with you back.
Let me enjoy my milkshake!
I might as well not have it.
Why am I trying for people
who don't care about me
and don't like me and
make it obvious?
Why am I... Who said so?
That's how I feel!
That's how I feel!
I just feel like people should have
at least spoken to me
and got to know me
and maybe understood what I wanted
from the experience,
rather than assuming for me.
You lot have milkshakes.
I don't care.
No, but if we all do it,
then the money will just...
I... If we are doing this,
that's 20 grand.
f*ck it. It's just money, isn't it?
I'm less excited for
the next few days now.
And I have no idea how much money
we're gonna end up taking home -
if any.
We've all said no
because we've thought,
"Right, no."
We're cold, we're hungry.
But you've come in and you've
thought, "Right, diner, that."
Yeah, but what's wrong with that?
If I want a temptation,
I'm supposed to take it.
It's pissed everyone off so much.
And you can tell
the tension's there.
I'm not weak.
No, you cracked, though.
I didn't crack. You cracked.
I want people to be nicer to me.
But now they're not, though.
I don't mind, babe!
I actually think
this could be a little blackmail.
"Well, you weren't nice to me,
so I'm going to buy it," but I'm not
going to pay into that game.
Would you say it's worth
half a grand?
Nah, I don't think so.
LAUGHTER
I don't think so.
I feel like now the floodgates
are opened and...
..it's...
Niagara Falls is on the horizon.
I don't see it getting any better.
I can only see it getting worse.
I feel like the group has decided
from the start because I'm slow,
that I'm the weak one.
So I just thought, "If you guys
are going to treat me
like I'm the weak one
and that I'm inferior,
then I'm going to be a b*tch."
The group are now 72 hours
into a trek to win a fortune.
If any of them leave,
one flight home to the UK
will cost the group
£25,000 of their prize fund.
Can I ask you a question? Mm-hmm?
What made you take
this challenge on, then?
I mean, just because,
like, I think I can do it.
I can just, I'll just do it in my
own way and my own pace,
d'you know what I mean? Yeah.
All of us, probably, except you,
has come into this going, "We are
not going to give in to temptation."
Yeah. Wish we had
that attitude. Really?
All I want you to do is
take that one moment,
that one moment of thinking...
..do I need it or do I want it?
Yeah, deffo.
All right?
Mm-hmm. And if you want it and you
really need it, you go for it, girl.
All right?
I won't go, I won't take everything.
Of course you won't. I feel like
everyone's scared I'm gonna...
No, you won't. You won't.
The whole milkshake situation...
Erm...
I am very much of the opinion that
we all just need to talk about it,
clear the air so we can move on.
The thing is it doesn't
feel like real money
because it's just up in the air.
One thing you've gotta remember,
temptations only last for
a certain amount of seconds.
Think about our first temptations.
We're not even thinking
about it now.
LANI: No, I'm different, guys.
Obviously, I know some of you
might get to the end
without taking anything,
but from the beginning
I knew I would take
one or two, minimum.
Me personally,
I don't have to have 25.
I'm OK with taking 15.
If you all had a treat,
I wouldn't be mad at you.
I'm just telling you
what I'm going to do.
What's to stop
everybody else from doing it?
And now that 500 turns into 5,000.
This game is about avoiding
them temptations.
I don't think so. I don't think
this game's about that.
It's an experiment.
Experiment about what?
The temptation at the end is money.
So you lot care about taking
the money home.
Making somebody be
uncomfortable who doesn't want to
because you want money
is also selfish.
Her rationale is
quite understandable.
She doesn't need the 25 K,
she wants the full experience,
so she'd be happy to take 20.
So that gives you 5,000 to spend.
So that's got into my mindset now.
Got to be a team player, together.
But she ain't a team player.
If it's a democracy and
we have to vote,
you have to go with
the majority vote.
But what did I vote?
If you voted no and
we all voted yeah, to avoid it...
I don't have to.
..you've gotta go with it.
You can't force me.
I ain't forcing you.
Coming to the experiment
to take temptations.
What are the temptations?
Home comforts.
Why don't you just stay
at home, then,
and enjoy your home
comforts from home?
Charlie's barking up the wrong tree.
I'm the type of person,
when someone's being mean to me,
I just become a total b*tch.
Guys, pick up a water!
Yeah, I'm grabbing one.
The team tackle their first
physical ordeal of the day -
a steep four-mile
trek to their next camp.
This is quite tough.
GRUNTS
Definitely not the route
you'd choose to take.
Ah!
Ah!
I think we'll camp at the top.
How much longer, guys?
Er, too long?
LANI GROANS
I don't enjoy struggling.
I'd rather take the easy route,
even, like,
if I wanted to lose weight,
I'd rather get lipo
than go to the gym.
That's just how I am.
A few days into their trek,
their feet are aching
and they're hot and sticky.
They've almost forgotten
what a hot shower
and a clean pair of underpants
feels like.
I know I have.
I can't, I don't feel like
waiting anymore.
I will be honest.
I don't feel like waiting.
The team have now split into three,
with James, Charlie, Trelwey
and Michelle steaming ahead.
Well, guys, it f*cking
pisses me off.
We're f*cking...
D'you know what I mean?
Yeah. Like, what the f*ck?
What'd I just sign up for?
That's bullshit. Yeah, I know.
Trailing 500 metres behind,
Carolynne, Lani, Jack and Dan
have stopped for a break.
I came into this...
And I told my family this.
"..there's no way they can
tempt me with anything."
You know, I'm 65,
there's nothing they can
tempt me with
because I know in 18 days
I can have it.
But I'm now changing
towards Lani's stance.
If something comes along
that just enhances
this experience...
..I will take it.
I feel like if you can have a
good time, have a little treat,
but still take something home,
I think it's a win-win.
Everyone's come into this
experiment for different things.
For example, like, I really
want to test myself. Yeah.
We're all trying to get through.
And as time has gone on,
I've learned this is a once
in a lifetime opportunity
and it's always been my dream
to do a safari.
So right now I would
snap your arm off for it.
Well, out here,
their wish is our command.
And their willpower's
about to be tested again...
..by a luxury safari lodge package.
But, as we know,
these temptations don't come cheap.
Aw... Lodge getaway.
Shut up.
Take a friend for free.
This is epic.
Wow.
LAUGHS
How much was it, 4,000?
4,000. Why?
Just wondering.
Private chef serving
delicious dinner and breakfast.
Just remember, yeah,
after one good night,
we're going to have
another 13 nights...
Then you're going to come back
to the camp and everybody hates you.
Looks like we're all
snuggling tightly in the tent.
That did look quite tempting,
to be fair.
Who's with Lani's group?
That's what I want to know.
Oh, sh*t.
Oh, my God, guys.
CAROLYNNE SQUEALS
Oh, for God's sake.
Oh, my God.
Queen size beds with private chef.
Far-reaching ocean views.
Take a friend for free.
I seriously am looking at that.
It's always been
my dream to do a safari.
That, to me, is
well worth the money.
Well worth it.
Day three of the
fortune hunters' journey
and for some,
the safari lodge package
is proving hard to resist.
I mean, look at it.
I couldn't pay for that.
I want to go...
They're getting more and more
tempting, aren't they?
If you said take a friend,
so that's two grand each.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Two grand each.
Right now, that's something
I would never be able to pay for.
Ooh, there'll be some thunder.
Whilst Carolynne deliberates,
the two leading groups
have arrived at their next camp.
Do you know if anybody took
the temptation in the other...
We didn't, so...
Not sure. You don't know?
No, we haven't... OK.
My main concern is Lani,
who I think will be tempted
to take this temptation.
And she's trying to recruit people.
But unfortunately,
everyone looks up to me.
If I can get everyone to kind of
think about everybody else
and not just themselves,
it would be a lot easier
to pass up these temptations.
What I'm feeling
a bit worried about...
Where's the rest of them?
I really hope that
they didn't take the temptation.
I think I'd be fuming, to be honest.
Here they are! My babies!
Here we go.
One...
..two...three...
Woo! Oh, my God. Shut up.
Where's Lani?
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
Where's Lani?
Come on, Lani.
Coming, coming coming!
Coming, coming, coming!
Guys, guys! Yay!
Woo! Yes! Mad. Mad, mad, mad
CHEERING
WHOOPING
SCATTERED APPLAUSE
I will take a treat, but not now.
I would never get back in the tent
again if I slept in a bed.
I never would.
I am gassed to see them.
Woo!
Shantay, you stay!
Obviously I'm happy
that no-one took the temptation.
But, you know, that is teamwork.
What did you all think about that
night in that safari luxury lodge?
So no-one was tempted?
Yeah, no, obviously,
it'd be an amazing experience.
Yeah, but no. I just couldn't come
back to the camp after that night.
Yeah, me either. We said that. But I
know Nana really, really wanted it.
I'm going to tell you now
that if that comes up again,
I will be taking it.
I didn't take it today
for the simple reason is
coming back to sleep in this tent
after being in a bed...
..it would've broken me.
I don't think you were taking that.
You wouldn't take 4,000.
You wouldn't do that to us. I would.
Let me be absolutely honest.
That experience there
I couldn't buy.
I'll never get
to South Africa again.
You could say that
about anything, then.
I know, James.
James, and I appreciate that.
And I appreciate that you want
us all to get through
not spending any money.
But I'm going to be
absolutely honest with you...
That's a plug game, man. ..that I
want an experience while I'm here.
Isn't this an experience?
But that is something
I couldn't buy.
I think a lot of them are
in the wrong mindset
for why they're here
because it's not a case of going,
"Oh, you mustn't take anything."
This is an experience.
Every temptation we had
is a once in a lifetime temptation.
You're never going to get a
f*cking milkshake in a bar
in the middle of f*cking nowhere.
You will never
get that experience again.
I think we need to remember as well
at home that would not cost you
and your friend £4,000
to come to South Africa
and stay one night in there.
Do you understand what I'm saying?
You could buy a week's
safari with the winnings.
D'you know what I mean? Actually
go for a week to a safari...
But it doesn't work like that.
You see, you don't understand.
My dream is to be on a safari
and this is the closest
I've come to it.
My life is a lot shorter
than all of yours.
I want that experience
because I really can't buy it.
Money isn't everything.
I understand that people are like,
it's our money it's our money.
You can't be forceful
with your opinions.
We have to meet.
It doesn't have to be in the middle,
but it can at least be, like, 80/20.
Some people in the group
don't give a damn
how much they're going home with,
as long as they can
kind of have fun.
It's just a selfish
kind of decision.
I don't like that
and I don't respect it.
Lots of people in the group
obviously are saying
they don't wanna take anything,
which is fine.
But then what that becomes
is peer pressure for everyone
to not take anything.
It's going to start
a snowball effect.
We make our own choices,
but these choices
do affect the rest of the team.
I feel like people might crack.
So what are we doing, then?
Let's just blow it all.
Let's just blow it all, then?
Yeah, but we're not gonna blow it
all. No, we can't, James.
Let's do it. James, stop that!
We're not blowing it all!
If I said, "OK, guys,
I won't take it" and everybody else,
I'll go away and I'll think
all I've done
is given in to you all... Exactly.
..because you want to go away
with the maximum money. Yep.
Oh, my God.
Next time on Tempting Fortune...
Whoa. You OK?
He's being eaten by a hippo.
Listen! I am
getting pissed off with you all.
Oh, Jesus Christ.
As the group divides,
will they put themselves first
and take a secret temptation?
Hot chocolate. Do I want it?
Do I want it?
GASPING
Oh, man!
Do you want or need it?
I want it. I'm pissed as f*ck, man.
I'm boiling inside.
What the f*ck?
The walk of shame.
