This programme
contains strong language.
This is my worst nightmare.
I quit, I'm over it.
I'm pissed, man. I'm boiling inside.
It's obvious everyone's in it for
themselves now.
12 strangers from across Britain
have arrived in South Africa.
Stripped of all creature comforts,
they're gonna be tested in the
hostile environment
of the Eastern Cape.
SHOUTING: Push!
It's cold.
As they embark on a unforgiving
18-day trek...
SCREAMING: Oh, my God!
Oh! Ah! My whole body hurts. Uh!
..to win a share of 300 grand
waiting at the finish line.
But standing between them and the
money...
..we've built a series of incredible
temptations.
SCREAMING: Oh, my God!
From everyday treats
to big luxuries,
that will make their journey easier.
Guys, there's hot water. Ah!
But there's a catch.
They come with the world's highest
prices.
3,000 per double bed.
It's a lot.
For 3,500 I could have 19 parties.
And every pound they spend
will be deducted from the shared
prize pot.
This is absolute t*rture.
So, if one person gives in to
temptation,
everyone will pay for it.
You're spending everybody's money.
I am pissed off with you all.
We live in a world where we can get
what we want
the second we want it.
So,
can we put off our immediate desires
for the sake of a longer term goal?
I'm not sleeping in a three grand
bed,
I'm built different. I doubt it.
Would you give in to peer pressure?
I need something
to get me through this.
But you could do that outside of
this environment
GASPS
and not spend other people's money.
Or temptation?
Welcome to the dark side.
LAUGHING
Previously on Tempting Fortune...
OK, I want a milkshake.
Lani was first to break.
It's pissed everyone off so much.
And after a week of no hot showers,
we built them a spa.
This is the toughest thing I've ever
done.
Taken up by Lani, Jack, Michelle and
Dan,
costing the group four-and-a-half
grand.
I'm boiling inside.
Which sent the group
into meltdown.
Lani I don't know where it's gonna
stop wit you.
It's obvious everyone's in it for
themselves now.
I don't think there's anything wrong
with a bit of temptation.
CAROLYNNE: Morning Charlie,
did you sleep OK?
No. It was freezing
and everything's wet.
It's my worst nightmare.
I stink, my armpits are hairy,
my legs are hairy,
my vag*na's hairy.
I wish I could take another
temptation but the group would hate
me.
Like, right now, if there was a
roast dinner I would eat it.
It's 6am.
The 12 fortune seekers are almost
halfway through
an epic 18-day trek,
to reach whatever's left
of a £300,000 prize fund.
JACK: What's everyone missing the
most?
I'm really missing a full night's
sleep.
I'm literally over the sleep.
How am I supposed to have beauty
sleep
without any sleep?
Before embarking on today's leg of
the trek,
the group need to dry their clothes.
Even leader James, from Cheshire, is
finding conditions challenging.
It wasn't very warm last night.
I think we all need our shoes and
socks to be dry.
We all need warmth,
it's very uncomfortable.
SCREAMING
SHOUTING: What is it? Oh, my God!
What is it? That is enormous. That
was on my sleeping bag.
It was on my sleeping bag. What is
it?
GASPING
Yeah, baby.
JACK: That is the biggest spider
I've ever seen.
I told you there's gonna be loads of
spiders here and snakes.
I'm not normally someone who gets
particularly homesick or anything,
but this...it's accumulative.
The food on it's own would be
difficult.
The lack of home comforts alone
would be difficult.
The trekking on its own would be
really hard
and so all of those together just
make it this, like,
melting pot of...
..like, sh*t.
Sleeping out in the wild can take
its toll
and they'll certainly be sleep
deprived.
Which means
their guard's gonna drop
and, who knows,
maybe a loosening of the
purse strings.
So far, big spender Lani's been
tempted the most
and splurged an extra £500
on a makeup kit from the spa.
Me with my luxury item.
That is priceless.
I look like a wild mammoth
without the tweezer.
No matter what happens in life to
you,
it's important to look good.
What if you have a really bad injury
and you die?
It's important that people's last
memory of you
is that you were looking good.
So as leader of the group
the only thing that really bothers
me is when
a person takes a personal temptation
when everyone else is struggling.
A makeup kit,
a spa,
is superficial.
Somebody took my food,
cos my food was way up here.
The team, we're really not a whole
at the moment.
A divide is starting to happen.
When I took the temptation at the
spa,
like, James and Luke and Charlie
they just looked at me like I was
just dirt, pretty much.
If there's other temptations down
the road,
I'm unsure if I could actually take
them
in fear of
the group really starting to, like,
dislike me.
Cracks are starting to appear
and the group division could get
even bigger
if anyone indulges in what we've got
to offer 'em
in our vending machine.
Conveniently hidden beside their
camp
and fully stocked with sugar
and the flavour they've been starved
of for the last eight days.
All that stands between them and
their desires
is the simple push of a button.
No-one should have to wake up to
this after getting 30 minutes sleep.
Literally.
Mm.
The rice and beans, it's just so
bad,
it's not fit for anyone.
The first to discover the vending
machine
are Jack and Dan.
What?
LAUGHING
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God. 100 for a Sprite?
Full fat Coke, oh!
Oh, my God, I really, really want
some chocolate, to be honest.
Like, the chocolate bars,
I think we could share these.
Uh, this is a hard one.
Do you think people would be
mad if we... Yeah, I think they've
probably got some, like, resentment
towards us
for taking the spa.
It's hard not to feel peer pressure
when you're in a group of, you know,
12 people.
When you do take a temptation, as I
did the other day,
they took it as if I had robbed
them.
Chocolate would be for everyone.
Maybe they would be like, "Oh, we
really needed that today, cos it's
gonna be hard."
Ah, um...
I'm inclined to think we should take
the chocolate.
Should we do it?
Um...
Yeah.
£400 would buy 280 bars back home.
What have we done? What have we
done?
We have had a temptation.
There was a vending machine.
We have decided to get you
something,
to share... Yeah, we got chocolate
for the group.
..and it's some chocolate for all of
us. Are you serious? Oh, my
goodness.
How much was it?
400. 400 and it's shareable.
JAMES: 400 for a chocolate bar?
Can we gobble it up now?
Enjoy everyone.
Mm.
Charlie, do you want one?
If we eat that does that mean we've,
I've had a temptation?
No, we didn't take it.
James?
How many do we get, one?
Make it, make it last.
It's a ridiculous purchase.
I would not have done it
cos it makes no sense.
It's an illogical amount of money
for a tiny piece of chocolate this
big.
It wasn't worth 400.
Did you take? It was given to me so
imma eat it.
See, bro, I can't do that, man. It's
one little piece. We've got ten more
days to go.
One little piece, gone. Yeah.
The act of buying that chocolate
was such a morale boost,
but I think James sees it as letting
the side down.
You don't need chocolate.
But he took it and ate it.
He has gone down so much in my
estimation.
Although leader James
is keen to start today's trek to the
next checkpoint
the group are delaying
as they attempt to dry their damp
clothes.
SCREAMING
My underwear, I burnt it!
Look, they're crispy and they've
broken.
Great.
Oh, sh*t.
Hang on this is really bad.
CAROLYNNE: What's the matter?
My foot can't fit in it.
Like, it's... What?
Was yours by the fire? Yeah.
That's really bad.
SIGHING
We came back last night with all wet
clothes, wet boots
and these were close to the fire
and the inside of the boot has gone
really tight.
I can get my foot in it but I
definitely can't walk in it,
cos it's gonna injure my toes
straight away.
Oh, God.
I don't know what to do.
I knew straight away that I couldn't
complete the journey
and I'd have to go home and
that, the thought of that, was
absolutely devastating.
I couldn't imagine not seeing this
through to the end.
If Dee leaves it'll cost the group
25 grand.
She can buy new boots,
but it's not just our temptations
that come at the world's highest
prices.
And the cost of replacement kit will
be deducted
from the group's total prize fund.
The boots were 2 grand.
Charlie has a problem with any money
being spent
and so does James
It really has influenced the
group a lot.
Think we've all had enough.
Guys,
I've got new boots.
They cost 2 grand.
NERVOUS LAUGHTER
It's worth it to have you with us.
Thank you. Absolutely. It's what I
had to do.
It's fine. JAMES: Because she put
them by the fire.
They look cute. It's well worth it.
Boots too close to the fire
cost us 2 grand.
She was irresponsible
and it's things like that that are
annoying, not just to me
but to the entire group.
Guys, guys, listen up.
From now on we've gotta take care of
our sh*t.
When Dee took her shoes I feel like
James
was a bit upset because he doesn't
want us to spend money.
He wants to appear like he's an
angel
but really, inside, he holds his
resentment
for how, you know, silly we are.
Now Dee's fully equipped,
today's challenge -
climbing 340ft above sea level
through dense bush,
followed by a freezing river wade.
All while carrying their 22lb packs
on their backs.
Here we go again.
Yo, you've gotta army crawl it
underneath.
GRUNTING
Take your packs off everyone.
DEE: Um, Charlie, it would be
helpful if you could help us through
with the packs.
Yo, you can just commando crawl with
them in front,
it's not that hard, you know, but I
will help. All right.
For the weaker people it is but OK,
you're all right.
I'm such a b*tch, ain't I?
Not at all.
You want me to go in there and pull
it out?
How many more times shall I ask him?
SHOUTING: Yes please, Charlie.
Look, it's not that hard.
Not for you, Charlie.
It would be for me, Charlie, I
couldn't do that at the moment.
GRUNTING
I hate this trek.
It's really prickly.
They keep stabbing me. Oh!
It's only just started.
What a nightmare.
SCREAMING
f*ck off!
What are you?
Get off me!
ATTEMPTED CRYING
LUKE: Got that incline now, boys.
It's gonna test some people on this
trek...
Yeah. ..cos it's testing me.
CHARLIE: Yes, sir!
Oh, good God.
f*ck' hell, it don't stop.
Just have a bit of a rest.
SHOUTING: James.
Hang on!
Wait up.
They're not... Hey!
They've gone, f*ck 'em.
When James is the leader,
he's a leader that I don't take
seriously.
He's just a man that goes on ahead,
doesn't carry water and doesn't look
after the group.
I don't respect him as a leader.
JAMES: All right, hold up.
CHARLIE: All right, listen, I wanna
say something now.
The reason why I didn't go down,
f*ck' help Dee there,
cos she didn't attempt it.
Exactly. Right, go on your f*cking
knees and try it first
before getting me to go on my knees
and come back. LUKE: Yeah, f*ck it.
You can't spend 2 grand and then...
And then be dishin'.
..and then be bitching at us. No,
no, no.
I genuinely do feel they'd be f*cked
without us, you know.
It's becoming, like, an excuse now
can the stronger ones help the
weaker ones?
And it's becoming a bit annoying.
I'm not gonna have her, you know,
lecturing the boys.
You just burnt your boots, mate.
You ain't did nothing,
you hardly do anything.
You know what I mean and then... You
don't carry the water,
you don't, you don't cook.
You don't do anything.
Our mood I think at the moment is
quite demoralised.
It's full on - "Come on guys, we've
gotta keep going
"we're never gonna give in to a
temptation."
We can't go through all of this
and not treat ourselves.
It's gonna be so bizarre when we get
home,
just walk to the toilet, walk to the
living room and sit down.
All the comforts, like, everything.
Having spent eight days cut off from
civilisation
will the group have the willpower to
resist
our next temptation.
Deep in the African bush
we've built a living room
full of their favourite home
comforts.
SIGHING
Oh, my God.
There must be easier ways to make
money in life than
f*cking k*ll yourself in South
Africa.
Uh!
The fortune seekers are making their
way to their sixth camp,
on a gruelling 18-day hike...
Oh, God!
..to win whatever's left
of their £300,000 fortune.
I'm not enjoying this one at the
moment.
I think this is my hardest day.
I'm really missing a comfortable
chair.
Every time they spend
the shared prize pot goes down
and if anyone leaves
it'll cost them 25 grand
for a flight home.
So hungry, mate.
Stomach's beatboxing.
I'm starvin'.
We live in a world where we can get
what we want
whenever we want it.
So will our fortune seekers resist
their desires,
for the sake of a long-term goal?
Hey boys? Sup? Kings.
Yes. I do apologise, I just said
boys.
Kings. Kings, the three kings.
The three kings are unbreakable.
It's getting to the point now where
I get a slight
masochistic pleasure at... Mm.
..being confronted with these
temptations
and then having the willpower,
the strength within myself
to make that decision for me, for
the kings,
you know, we're here to ascend, not
to descend,
so we're gonna keep rising.
Without us the group would struggle.
ALL SHOUTING: Beast boys!
BARKING AND HOWLING
Having walked in 30 degree heat,
they now face an ice-cold 2 degree
river.
So, how will this extreme change in
temperature
affect their willpower?
We all in? Yeah, you've just gotta
do it one small step at a time.
Oh!
TREWLEY: Wow, I just need to
breathe. You all right? I'm fine.
GASPING
MICHELLE:You got this.
Just take your time, babe.
SQUEALING
We're doing it, it's all good.
SCREAMING AND LAUGHING
JAMES: It's getting a little deep.
Yay!
GASPING AND MOANING
It's cold.
It's cold.
SQUEALING
Sugar! Oh!
Oh, we're getting out now. Oh.
JAMES: We're out right here, guys.
Yes.
Thank you.
All right.
Oh, that was terrible.
I'm so cold
in places where cold shouldn't
reach.
LANI GRUNTS
I want my own tent.
That's what I want, that's what I
could be tempted with.
I wanna go home and tell my mum and
dad all I had was rice and beans.
I didn't take nothing.
It was the same people every time
that did it.
Yo, bro, I ain't f*cking folding,
you know.
f*ck this sh*t. I know you're not.
I'm never gonna complain about my
nine to five.
I could be in an office, like,
tapping away on a keyboard.
With a stupid little coffee.
Just four walls is what I want,
like, not being surrounded by nature
constantly.
They've been missing their home
comforts for more than a week now.
Those cosy Friday nights in,
in front of the telly with a
takeaway,
all but a distant memory.
Or are they?
We've built a lovely British living
room in the wilds of South Africa.
The book of temptations will offer
an evening to recharge
with snacks,
pizza delivery,
hot drinks
and they can watch their favourite
TV shows.
Uh! Oh, my God, it's a whole house.
Shut up!
Oh, my God!
Oh, my God. That's f*cking amazing.
Oh, that's beautiful. It's a home!
Shall we go in? Let's take our shoes
off.
Maybe shoes and socks, cos we're
wet.
Let's go in.
Oh, my God.
Oh, wow. Oh, my God.
Oh, my goodness.
Look, there's pictures.
It's me! It's my family.
It's me and my friends.
There's coffee. Uh!
Cookies. They've got coffee.
Oh, and pizza, oh!
The book of temptations.
The Living Room.
Inside the Living Room a host of
home comforts await you.
Watch your favourite TV show with a
bowl of popcorn
and for dinner order yourself in a
delicious takeaway pizza.
An evening of the Living Room
Experience
is 1,500 per person.
Oh, my God.
That's so much money. I know.
Oh, my God.
Oh! This is absolute t*rture, you
know.
This is absolute t*rture. The pizza
menu as well,
gimme a four cheese. I'd absolutely
love a pizza.
With James and co yet to arrive,
will the lead group succumb to a
night
of home comforts?
These pictures from home is what is,
like, getting me.
You can see it as encouragement to
continue or, like, I just miss
people.
I miss people and I should have a
pizza and watch some TV. Yeah.
I think I'd pay a grand just for the
pizza but I just can't...
I'm gonna go with no.
Dan?
Yeah, it's gonna have to be a no,
isn't it?
Luke, James and Charlie
have indirectly
applied pressure to the group.
Their spokesman is Charlie.
Charlie gets all mad and angry and
puffs his chest
and makes peer pressure in the group
not to take temptations.
DEE: No.
LANI: No, no, no. CAROLYNNE: No.
Let's go, ladies.
CAROLYNNE: Bye-bye nice pillow.
And now we have to set up our
stupid tent.
God, what a load of shite. Yeah,
that's a tease, isn't it?
I feel absolutely God awful now.
We are getting
more hungry, more tired,
more, kind of, like annoyed at each
other
and so right now some home comforts
would be beautiful.
But I just know how the group
would react.
It's just depressing, isn't it,
really?
Yeah.
It's just all there and, like,
everything I'm craving right now.
I definitely have a fear of
taking another temptation because I
don't wanna piss anybody off.
This is just, this is so sh*t.
OK, let's get a fire going guys.
It's just like this same routine
again...
It's the convenience. ..like get the
campfire, make, you know.
Yeah. Stink.
The fruit smelled so good, you guys.
Uh, this is so sh*t.
Oh, my God. Hi, Guys.
Take a look. What a bizarre, surreal
experience.
With the first six fortune seekers
having declined,
the rest of the group now face the
temptation.
TREWLEY: Oh, my God.
That is so sweet.
Hello?
Oh, my God.
Oh, wow. Wow.
Maoam's they're my favourite.
That's your daughter? Yeah.
JAMES: She's just graduated, just
got her Masters.
That was a proud, proud moment.
My daughter is my world.
She told me coming in
to use her as motivation
and whenever I struggle,
you know, she would be here with me
to help me carry on.
1,500 per person.
So, we'd enjoy the evening
and then we'd have to go back
outside to the cold tent.
Yeah, it's crazy.
Look, there's even cookies in the
jar.
SIGHING
JAMES: Get away from them cookies.
Oh, my actual God, Jaffa Cakes.
Jack, do you reckon anyone else is
gonna take the house?
Absolutely not.
I don't think they'll even waiver,
they're the strong ones.
They're weirdos, they're boring.
Or that.
I'm so angry.
I'm starving, I'm hungry.
There's sweets in there.
JAMES: It's beautiful, it looks
amazing,
but I'm gonna get it in 7-8 days. I
think it's a no from me.
Ash, how you feeling babes?
Nah, it's amazing, but
I can have home comforts when I'm at
home.
Well, what do you want?
I've been wanting this all day.
Like, I'm just being real.
I don't know, I'd...I don't know.
Give me some popcorn,
give me some Maoams, give me some
cookies,
give me something exciting, I'm over
it.
Oh, I'm so pissed.
You know, when I look at my brother
in that picture, I hear him speak
and he says to me, "Stay strong."
I don't know, I don't know.
Like, I'm with yous but I'm just
being real, I don't know.
So far almost everyone has rejected
a comfy night in
with a telly and a takeaway.
Trewley is the last to decide.
If she gives in and takes the night
on the sofa,
then the whole group will pay for
her decision
and their shared prize pot
would lose £1,500.
Oh, my God.
My greedy self
really, really, really, really wants
pizza
and a nice comfy sofa
but
imma step out as well.
I just really, really wanted it.
But no, like, let's all have f*cking
sh*t kidney beans and some rice
for the 20th day in a row.
I just wanna look at the sweets.
Yo, man, I've gotta get out of here
before I change my mind.
The experiment is good.
Oh, what have we just...
and then, then reality just sinks
in, what the f...
Fuming.
There are a few people in the group
who I figured would
take such a temptation,
but as tough as it is
we can prevail.
I think it will just make us
stronger.
They almost got me with the Maoams,
mate.
Ha, they know your weakness.
I feel like there's a lot of
stereotypes when it comes to
Essex girls, I probably fit that,
you know,
when they say about teeth, lips,
blonde hair. Quote.
SHE LAUGHS
But I'm more than just a pretty face
and I'm here to prove that.
I am a gypsy from the travelling
community on my father's side.
Loyalty is the most important thing
to me.
If you've got my back, I've
definitely got yours.
100%.
All I've actually wanted is ice
cream and Maoams.
It's like getting into a bloody
coffin,
then another day is done.
Thank God for that, it was pretty
brutal.
It's another day towards a proper
bed
and going home.
Today the camp mates must advance
to their seventh camp.
Another step closer
to whatever they'll have left
of their £300,000 shared prize pot.
How's people feeling about
temptations?
Cos I'm not gonna lie, yesterday I
felt weak,
tired and kind of drained.
And if there was a hot bath in there
I think it would have been quite
easy for me to crack.
If that had been a house with...
Oh, boy. ..a bathroom, a bed,
I would have got it. Really? Cos I
needed it.
DAN: The days are getting harder,
we're getting more tired...
WHISPERING: He talks himself into
it.
..it's only gonna get more and more
likely that people are gonna take
them, right?
JAMES: It feels like the further in
the more you guys want to take them
but for me the further in, the least
I wanna take 'em.
Why would I do everything I've done
just to now give in?
And if you give in,
you're gonna give in later in life,
when sh*t gets hard. I don't think
so.
I don't know if I agree with that. I
don't agree with that at all. OK,
that was, that's my opinion.
I don't see it as, like, giving in
because actually this is really
hard... Yeah.
..and actually... It's still giving
in bro,
you're still giving in if you take
the temptation.
No, you're not giving in to a
temptation... You are.
..you're giving yourself permission
to, to enjoy that particular moment
in circumstances that are tough.
I think you're giving yourself
permission to fail.
You just talk...we talked, nana!
Sometimes, James, you're very
forceful with us and that's great
when we need...
I'm not forceful at all. I am never
ever... James, why don't you let me
finish?
Because you say things...I'm not
forceful.
I don't intimidate anybody.
I feel like James decided, by
himself,
what was best for the group is that
we wouldn't take any temptations
and that we would all go home with
as much money as we can.
But I believe experiences are more
important.
Just because, like,
you can have all the money in the
world but, like, still not be
fulfilled.
Charlie, when you're saying, like,
"This is giving in,
"this is failure, this is weakness,"
that's not helpful.
Every time you take a temptation it
makes me feel stronger.
When I hear the word quit, I just
think you quit, you're giving in.
ASHTON: Yeah, but I think you're
kind of projecting that onto
everyone else. Yeah.
I'm not, we're, we're discussing.
You do whatever you need to get
through, but
you're pushing that onto everyone
else, weakness, failure...
So, everyone can persecute me about
not wanting to quit. No, I'm not,
nobody's...not persecuting you.
You're saying I'm forcing it on
everyone. Who's persecuting you?
Cool, let's have a great day guys,
team spirit.
I feel like Charlie is James'
puppet.
James doesn't wanna look like the
bad guy,
so Charlie's his voice.
It's very sad to watch.
I really think sometimes he just
need to think
before he speaks.
I would say the group is starting to
divide, I think there is a clear
split between
people that've taken temptations or
would take temptations
and the people that are, "No
temptations, I'm gonna get through
without."
As the cracks begin to show,
the group have never been more
divided.
So, to see how peer pressure
affects our camp mates,
we're gonna split them apart.
All right, so we got two different
groups.
They'll be separated into those who
haven't spent so far -
James' group.
Tahira,
Ashton,
Luke,
Trewley.
And those who have spent -
Michelle, Lani,
Jack, Dan and Dee,
who are now in Carolynne's group.
The people that are more likely to
give into a temptation
are in this group.
Dee, just come here for a second and
look at this.
When others in the group give into
the temptation
it really is a slap into the face to
the other 11,
who are struggling just as much.
We're all going through the same
journey.
Stay strong in that group, I know
you're not gonna be able to stop
everything.
You know what I mean? Yeah.
But, it's gonna be you two who
are gonna have to, kind of, stop the
nonsense.
You get me? Yeah. Do your best,
yeah?
All right, let's go, Team A.
This is the f*cking alpha team right
here,
this is the beast team. Yeah.
This is the alpha wolf team.
The experiment has split us.
The other six, who are very
temptable
especially when they are all
together,
they can justify each other's
temptations.
Hopefully they'll be strong for the
group.
During the split each group will
endure the same challenges
but depart at different times
to keep them separate, to see how
peer pressure
has been influencing their
decisions.
What did James want? Oh, to keep
everybody strong and make sure
no-one cracks.
WHISPERING: Oh, for God's sake. I
know.
I need to respect my leader to
follow them
or else I'm gonna be like, mm.
That's when I quit jobs. I quite
jobs like that if I don't respect
my leader
and I've done that a lot.
As soon as you get to a temptation,
we're gonna ask each other, like,
do you want this? Yeah.
And no-one's gonna be, like,
"Stay strong, stay strong," as soon
as you'd, like... There's no peer
pressure.
There's more acceptance in this
group, you know.
It's not a cult.Yeah.
LANI LAUGHS
I call what he's doing more of a
dictatorship.
Yeah. It is a dictatorship. He's
dictating to us
what we should and we shouldn't do.
B Team is the best.
I bet the first team are sh1tting
themselves. Yeah.
DAN: We're about to blow your
f*cking money.
LAUGHING
To get to their seventh camp
both groups will need to climb
500ft,
through punishing thorny
undergrowth.
They don't know it yet,
but they'll be staying in different
camps.
I'm feeling quite good actually.
I feel more positive,
upbeat
and I've got my besties with me.
Yeah! So, yeah.
It's the girls and the gays.
Girls and the gays.
GRUNTING
SHOUTING: f*ck!
You OK? Yep.
Put my knee right on a f*cking
big-a*s thorn.
It's like spears on these things.
SHOUTING: f*ck!
Not that one, that one ain't coming.
DAN: Into the shrubbery we go.
Spiky, scratchy and gnarly.
JACK:Are they our nicknames?Yep.
Yeah.
LAUGHING
LANI GROANS
Thank you, nana.
Argh! Yay!
We're helping each other,
which is something when the wolf
boys go ahead,
they forget about us.
I don't think the wolf pack is
having as much fun as us.
TREWLEY: Ugh, sorry.
I've got no energy and my legs are
killin'.
If it was easy we wouldn't get
nothing from it, guys.
It's hard, the heat's blazing down
and knowing at any point that you
could just
take a temptation.
It's what makes it...
..evil.
Top of the hill.
We did it! Yeah. B Team!
Yay!
Yay, team!
Yay! Well done, Lani.
Don't you think this day feels
better?
I feel lighter. I love today.
I'm really enjoying it.
I'm really enjoying everybody's
company
and it, yeah, I really love today.
Yeah.
I love it so much.
I just hope, like, it stays like
this until the end.
After a gruelling hike,
Carolynne's group are first to
arrive in their camp.
Guys, it's camp, but no-one's here.
Really?
There's wood.
And one pot?One pot.
GASPING
Oh, my God.
DEE:We're separate.
DEE LAUGHS
Oh, my God.
The new groups will be separated
for two whole days
and face identical temptations.
JAMES: I see the camp, guys.
TREWLEY: Home, sweet home.
Why is there only one?
One pot?
There's one pot and there's less
seats.
TAHIRA GASPS
We're camping separately.
We've been split up.
LANI: Wait! We have our own camp?
It's just us. Yay!
CHEERING AND SCREAMING
That's amazing.
DAN: Guys, we are gonna miss them.
CHEERING CONTINUES
Oh, wow, wow. I'm sure it'll work
out.
We've got the cook.
Yeah.
We've got the cook but they're
probably buying a f*cking
three-course meal anyway.
We're gonna get back and it's gonna
be like, "There's £16 left in the
kitty."
LAUGHING
Let's blow all 300k.
LAUGHING
Bad camp!
Stay strong guys. Bring on the
temptations.
Guys, let's get on with the food.
OK.
In the back of their mind, they'll
know we're not spending.
I just hope they don't take
advantage of us
potentially being the team which
doesn't take temptations.
So they can double up? Yeah.
In the other camp as a big group,
particularly around the temptations,
there's always this kind of,
like, pressure and this, like,
fear, almost of taking it for fear
of everyone's reaction.
Oh, my God there's a temptation.
SCREAMING
What is it? Bottle of fizz for 400
or bottle of beer for 200.
Neither group has had alcohol for
eight days.
First to decide if they want to take
the booze
is Carolynne's group.
Do we wanna do it?
Oh, wait, all right, hold on.
Well, yeah, we're not, we're not
gonna do this. Yeah. Um...
Are we gonna do it?
So what do we think the other team
is doing?
I spoke to Dee and Michelle before I
left.
Individually and I told 'em
I need you to be strong for the
group
and they assured me they were gonna
do everything in their power
not to take any temptations.
It's all I can do. Everything, the
rest is on them.
Let's do the thumbs.
SHRIEKING
We're gonna be in so much trouble.
What we gonna have?
I think the rose, personally. I
love rose. Yeah, rose?
SHOUTING: We want the bottle of
wine!
How much is a beer? 200?
If you want it...
Do it. ..have it. You deserve it.
You deserve it. Let's go.
SHRIEKING CONTINUES
To failure, giving in...
And being weak. ..and being weak,
yeah.
CHEERING
Guys and girls. Gays and girls.
After nine days without alcohol,
Carolynne's group have taken the
first temptation offered
since they were split into two
teams.
Spending £600 on booze.
How much was that? Who cares. It's
400 a bottle.
Who cares. 400 a bottle? That's a
bargain, mate.
LANI: Bargain!
James's group have so far resisted
all temptations,
in order to preserve as much money
in the prize pot
as possible.
Listen,
we're warriors, yeah?
We're warriors, my people are
warriors.
We don't give in that easy.
We're built different, yeah?
No matter how low we were today we
kept fighting,
that's what warriors do.
We keep fighting.
No matter whether they are willing
to sacrifice for us,
we're willing to sacrifice for them,
because we're f*cking warriors and
it's within us.
All of us. Yeah..
You know failure never tasted so
good.
I literally think so, cheers.
Oh, that's so bloody good.
Oh, my God.
This is the best glass of wine I've
ever had.
I know. They're gonna be sat there
and James will be over the fire
like...
LAUGHING
Next, James' group is faced with
the same temptation.
What's that?
Is that champagne?
Oh, my God.
Oh, no. This is definitely my
weakness.
Wait, wait, there's different
bottles.
Oh, no.
Bottle of wine or fizz for 400.
To be fair that's actually better
value than the bar of chocolate the
lads bought.
LAUGHING
Rose, we've got rose.
LUKE: To be honest, it doesn't
appeal to me at all.
Well speak for yourself.
I know you want it, I want it mate.
I f*cking really want it, yeah.
Just think they're at a hotel right
now, dancing and drinking.
I just literally wanna have a pretty
glass in my hand
and pretend I'm normal. I'm too
tired tonight.
I'm tired. Yeah, I gotta go to bed.
It appeals to me but it doesn't
appeal to me enough for this to be
the hill that I die on.
Politely have to decline.
Tonight.
Thank you, but no thank you. Maybe
tomorrow.
Right come on. Yeah. Thanks for
nothing.
LAUGHING AND SHRIEKING
Look at her. Naughty little minx.
I'm gonna say this - we deserve
this.
Yeah. Because this has been so hard.
So hard.
They definitely didn't take the wine
from the other camp if they got
offered it. Of course they wouldn't.
LANI: They're the boring camp, I
feel sorry for them, what a sh*t
life.
LAUGHING
DEE:What a sh*t life!
DAN: What a sh*t life!
Imagine you go home with nothing
and you starved yourself.
At least you've got your memories
now, I've got this. Yeah.
I know this amazing.
On my death bed I'm gonna be like
that...
SHE LAUGHS
THEY ALL LAUGH
I got pissed in the forest. Yeah.
ALL: Cheers! To the next temptation.
ALL: To the next temptation!
CHEERING
Feeling a lot of emotions right now.
It don't seem that long, but
when you're eating, sleeping
with other people that ain't your
family,
it's just, you just miss everything
you have at home.
It's the end of their first day
apart
and both groups are about to face
their final,
heart-wrenching temptation.
No-one has had contact with their
nearest and dearest for nine days.
So we're about to offer both camps
the opportunity
to take a call from home.
But
international call rates apply.
Obviously.
First to face the call
is Trewley.
What the f*ck is that, is that a
chair?
What's going on?
God!
HE SQUEAKS
I was so scared.
TREWLEY SIGHS
The book of temptations.
Oh, I hope this isn't what I think
it is.
Your mum.
SHE GASPS
Your friend Natasha is available
right now.
Your mum, Caroline.
Your friend, Archie.
CRYING
Your mum, Tina, is available.
If you'd like to pick up the phone
for a chat.
Calls are charged at 100 a minute.
Oh, my God.
SIGHING
Ah, I don't know.
Oh, I can't, I can't do it.
I really wanna speak to my best
friend.
All I wanna do is talk to her as
well.
I miss her so bad.
Yeah, I'm not gonna do it.
I can't.
She wouldn't want me to. She
wouldn't want me to pick up.
I can't do that, I can't do that, I
can't do that.
Here she comes.
The temptation was
that my mum was on the phone.
ALL: Oh!
It's £100 a minute.
A minute?
And I said no.
Oh, mate.
Oh, Trew.
So, horrible.
I feel so bad.
Oh, I just wish I'd picked the phone
up.
All I've been doing is just crying
about me mum
and just then I could've just had
the reassurance I needed
or even give her the reassurance she
needed
and I shut it down.
I don't think it's always wrong to
give into temptation
and sometimes being weak
is also strength.
But I guess I didn't listen to my
own advice.
If yous wanna call home,
yous can right now.
No, I don't wanna. No, I don't want
to.
You all right, Ash?
You miss your baby?
The family's always gonna be the
hardest one,
but the beautiful thing about the
family is
they're gonna be there.
That's right. They're gonna be there
when you're back.
It's all right.
The possibility of speaking to my
son or my husband
is just, like, a little
overwhelming.
This is definitely that hardest one,
for sure.
We're your surrogate family for this
time.
Believe that and I mean that.
DAN SIGHS
Oh, my God.
Um...
Do you think the other group's been
offered that?
If they have been offered it,
I don't feel like they're gonna take
it.
OK, um...
100 a minute is not that long,
yeah, f*ck...
Hello?
That's priceless, she's got my
child, so
I'm gonna pick up the phone.
Hello?
OVER PHONE: Hello, sugar t*ts!
Oh, my God.
Archie?
OVER PHONE: Dan? Hi. How are you?
Oh, my God. How's it going?
This is ridiculous!
Are you OK? I'm all right, is Annie
with you?
Yes, everything's fine,
she's doing unreal. Tell her I love
her
and thank you so much for looking
after her.
Yeah, um, I should go because it's
probably costing
an, an incredible amount of money.
Yeah, it's costing you too much
money. Yeah.
But, tell me what's new?
Carry on doing what you're doing,
Jodi, don't give up.
All right. Thank you ever so much
for everyone for looking after my
little spawn.
Love ya. Love ya. See ya later sugar
t*ts.
Bye. Bye.
Woo!
If they have taken it,
what will be what will be.
They've spent and been tempted again
and we have remained un-tempted.
Exactly brother.
We are still one group, all in,
yeah?
And that's why I wanna have faith
and belief that they will make the
decisions
for everyone's benefit, not just
for their own benefit.
Is that faith or is that delusion?
Well, we'll find out, won't we?
LAUGHING
Being separated from the group has
meant that I'm,
I'm just, right now I'm like, "Well,
f*ck it."
I'm just gonna take anything.
Is it not gonna be difficult
when you reunite with the other team
and they find out?
Yeah, I don't care anymore.
I know we've gotta remain positive,
but I just can't help but think the
biggest battle is coming in these
next few days.
What's that?
Next time on Tempting Fortune...
SCREAMING
Oh, my God!
CHEERING
One half of the group goes on a
massive spending spree...
LANI: Nana, twerk!
SCREAMING
..and all hell breaks loose
when we bring 'em back together.
GASPING
CHARLIE: It's your smug little faces
that I don't like.
I need something to get me through
this.
You just spent 10 grand of the
f*cking money.
I turned down a call from my child.
