[thwack]
[whoosh]
[Tristan] All of you, just leave me alone.
What? What did you just say?
You've got a lot of nerve, pal!
You don't waltz in here as a newbie
and then talk down to the rest of us,
just 'cause you got lucky
and won the Camelot Cup.
You show some damn respect!
What makes you think you're special?
It's not about the individual.
It's about team spirit.
There's no room here at Camelot
for someone like you, man.
You only care about yourself.
- [boy 1] Go play somewhere else, buddy!
- [girl] Selfish jerk!
[boy 2] Maybe the coach wanted you here,
but we sure as hell don't.
- [chatter continues]
- This is really ugly.
[laughs] You want me
to put a stop to it, love?
Let Tristan deal with it.
He's brought this on himself.
Know your place!
You go around
like you're the top of the heap.
You haven't proven anything yet!
Aren't the golfers at this academy
the very best
of the world's junior players?
[gasps] That's no excuse
for your lousy attitude, mate!
[gasps]
- [groans]
- [Tristan] You're not listening.
- [groans]
- Answer me this.
Has a single one of you ever defeated me?
- [Ice scoffs]
- [all grumbling]
He's got a point there.
[Tristan] In golf,
we only compete against ourselves.
Spare me your childish sentiments.
- [boy 2] That b*stard.
- [girl] He still doesn't get it.
[Ryan grunts]
- [grumbles]
- [Jason] Hold it right there, Ryan.
Coach Jason.
Now listen up.
Here's how we'll put an end
to this dispute.
You will all play a round.
If Tristan wins by five strokes or more,
he may practice on his own.
But... if he can't win by that margin,
Tristan will follow the group's
practice regimen without exception.
- Yes, sir.
- A five handicap?
That's super insulting, Coach.
- [students chatter]
- My decision is final.
- [Ryan grunts]
- [boy 1] I can't believe it.
[girl] That's crazy.
[tense music plays]
Here are the results
for the top five finishers
of today's round.
- Ryan and Ice, four under par...
- [Ice grumbles]
...tied for fifth.
Sfida, fourth, at five under par.
Guangling and Daysun,
six under par, tied for second.
[Daysun huffs]
- [Jason] And in first place, Tristan...
- [Ryan grunting]
...12 under par.
Now that's settled,
I'm going to practice on my own.
Out of my way.
[Ryan grumbling]
Don't bother me anymore.
[music fades out]
[descending squeak]
RISING IMPACT
EPISODE 25: TO THE TOP
Did I really just see that?
Tristan never hits the ball out of bounds.
- [Tristan] What... did I just do?
- [tense music plays]
Why am I holding my driver?
On this 16th hole,
I usually tee it off with a long iron,
then lie up with the second shot
in front of the pond
and aim for a chip-in birdie.
But here I am...
[dramatic sting]
[dramatic sting]
...unconsciously holding my driver.
Why? Why would I go for an eagle
instead of my usual birdie?
Great shot, Lancelot.
You went with the driver,
even after Tristan hit it
out of bounds with his!
[Lancelot] I'm just going to
keep on playing aggressively
until I've destroyed
your armor completely.
[tense music continues]
[Tristan] I did it again.
[music pulsing]
THE 16TH HOLE
"LADY OF THE LAKE"
TRISTAN - LANCELOT - KATE
It's 150 yards to the cup.
Chipping it in from here
would be quite difficult.
- If I miss, I'll be left with a long putt.
- [thwack]
It'll be smarter
to lay up in front of the pond
and chip it in from there.
[grunts]
[water lapping gently]
Ahh. I thought it was gonna roll off.
I used some backspin to slow it down.
[Tristan] What's going on here?
Who are these guys anyway?
[foreboding music plays]
[grunts]
Why won't they just leave me alone?
Why don't they just get out of my way?
Get in there!
[Lancelot] Don't go in!
[skidding]
[Tristan] It happened again.
My body is still moving on its own,
overriding all my thoughts and intentions.
[Kate] Nice birdie, Lancelot!
A 15-yard putt,
and it's no sweat at all for you, is it?
[music intensifies]
[Tristan] Why did I sh**t for the green
instead of laying up like I usually do?
No time for that.
I have to sink this putt first.
It's right on the line.
[Lancelot] So close.
Oh, wow!
[glass shards tinkling]
[Lancelot] Your armor is coming off.
[heavy splash]
[Lancelot] Now it's your turn
to doubt yourself.
[Kate] Oh, wow. You're in the pond.
[Tristan] What am I doing?
[water lapping gently]
What's going on with me?
Why won't these people stop pestering me?
Why can't they just leave me alone?
Don't bother me anymore.
[Jason] Tristan, what you said is true.
In golf, we compete against ourselves.
But don't forget
that it's still a competition
against others as well.
It's inevitable that, someday,
you'll encounter someone
who's as good as you or better.
When that happens,
your ability as a golfer will be tested.
The same way that you appeared
in front of these students,
one day, a superior player
shall appear right in front of you.
If you ever find such a golfer,
bring them to me.
[water lapping gently]
Well, don't just stand there.
Are you gonna take the penalty
and hit another ball or what?
[Lancelot] What a disappointing
turn of events.
Kate's right. You need to hurry it up.
Gawain might hit into us again.
All right.
Huh?
[Tristan] Now I get what it means
to compete against others.
[gasps softly]
[intriguing music plays]
And I like it.
[dramatic rock music plays]
[Lancelot] His swing is smooth again.
[Tristan] Dad...
I'll never go back on my promise.
But this time... it's going to be different.
- [Kate murmurs nervously]
- [gasps]
Competing with the likes of you
has only made me
want to win more than ever.
Thank you for that.
So consider my triple bogey
on this hole as a handicap.
[Lancelot exhales sharply]
And I thought
I'd peeled off this guy's armor.
[scoffs] Not at all.
- What is he, indestructible?
- [music rises, fades out]
[Gawain gasps]
[breathing heavily]
- [gasps] Oh no!
- Whoa. Are you feeling woozy again?
- [both pant]
- I'll be all right.
Only a few more holes to go now.
Yeah, but that won't matter
if you're dead!
With a head injury like that,
you oughta be in a hospital,
and you know it!
- I can't quit when I'm this close.
- [gasps]
- I'm here. Can you stand? [grunts]
- [Gawain groans]
[Charles straining, grunts]
Man, you are stubborn.
We'll help you get there. Okay?
Sorry for slowing you down, guys.
[groans]
No problem, dude.
Reminds me of my caddying days.
I didn't like him at first,
but this kid is pretty cool.
[Percival] I've never met
anyone like him before.
[Gawain breathing heavily, grunting]
[Arthur] Yes, the Avalon course
at Camelot Academy.
We need you to send an ambulance here
as soon as possible.
It's urgent.
[resonant ping]
[Kate grunts] It's... it's unbelievable.
He's completely regained his confidence.
[Lancelot] I must admit,
Tristan's mental discipline
is off the charts.
He just birdied the 17th hole
as if those painful mistakes on the 16th
had no effect on him at all.
Now he's 12 under, and I'm four under.
We've reached the end,
and I'm not going to be able to catch him.
Hey, Tristan, I'm glad I got the chance
to compete against you.
It was well worth coming to the UK.
You're too nice, bub.
This game isn't quite over yet.
[Lancelot] That's true.
THE 18TH HOLE
"MERLINS SPRING"
[Yumiko] So what was your final score,
Platalissa?
[Platalissa] Tell me yours first.
[whines] I finished two over par!
Boo!
Which means I lost
to that annoying punk chick!
She is just the worst!
[Platalissa] And I lost to my sister.
She was right about me after all.
[squeals giddily]
All right! Here comes Lancelot's group!
The unbeatable Tristan.
I wonder if he can beat his score
from last year.
Huh.
I see them at the tee,
but it doesn't look like any of them
are even getting ready to hit.
[tense music plays]
[Lancelot] What are you waiting for?
[Gawain] Thanks, you guys,
but that's good enough.
I can walk from here on my own.
[Percival] A-Are you sure?
I really don't think you should.
At least let me carry your bag for you.
No, thank you.
[Charles grunts, grumbles]
[suspenseful music plays]
I can't afford to let anyone think
I needed help to finish this.
Gawain, everybody knows.
You've done all of this on your own.
And now,
I'm going up against the best of the best.
I'll win this game.
So... it all comes down
to the final hole, doesn't it?
[Tristan] What's your score now?
Eleven under.
E... Eleven under par?
You were two over after the first nine.
You've done a lot of catching up quickly.
We saw it with our own eyes
and it was hard to believe.
He just scored another albatross
a minute ago on the 17th.
[Tristan] Incredible.
He's improved his score by 13 strokes
in only eight holes.
What's your score now, Tristan?
I'm at 12 under.
I see. Your score actually got worse.
[music fades out]
[glove crunching]
Make sure he doesn't fall, Percival.
Hmm? Oh. Right.
- I don't need any help!
- [gasps]
I can stand on my own two feet!
[Tristan] Fine. Have it your way.
[tense music plays]
But I'm still the one
who's going to win this game.
A driver?
But the 18th hole's a par five.
So what's the matter with that?
Nothing, in theory, but Tristan never
uses his driver on par five holes.
He always uses irons,
to make sure he can birdie
with that k*ller chip shot of his.
Why's he doing this?
[Gawain grumbles]
[Tristan] I always birdie this final hole.
And that means I'll finish at... 13 under.
But if he makes eagle,
we'll be tied at 13 under.
And if, by some miracle,
he makes a hole-in-one, I'll...
[roaring whoosh]
He hit it a ton!
But is he going to clear the pond?
[Percival] He not only cleared it,
he hit it 300 yards!
Now there's no way I can lose this.
[snickers] Well, just look at you now.
And here I thought
you were only a true ace with your iron.
- [swish]
- [thwack]
- [swish]
- [thwack]
[music ends]
- [groans softly]
- Do you need to sit for a sec?
[weakly] No, I'm all right.
[Tristan] I can't beat this Gawain
with my usual approach.
I'm going to have to take a gamble.
So just watch me,
Dad.
[Lancelot] Tristan's got 160 yards to go.
That's a difficult distance for him.
No choice but to go for the birdie here.
- No way.
- Hmm?
If I know Tristan,
he'll try to chip it in for an eagle.
[snickers]
- [Tristan] This is a battle...
- [tense music plays]
...against you,
and against myself.
[huffs]
- [Kate murmurs nervously]
- He's taken off his glove.
That's a very strategic move.
It'll help him more directly feel
the grip and weight of the club.
And that can possibly improve
his sense of direction
and the accuracy of the distance.
[thunderous rumbling]
[menacing undertone drones]
[dramatic music plays]
[Bilford gasps]
I can feel my heartbeat, I'm so nervous.
My word! The tension's so thick,
you could cut it with a knife.
I can't remember a finish
as dramatic as this.
I think he's trying for the eagle!
Eagle?
There's no way he can pull that off.
He's still more than 160 yards
away from the pin!
- That may be...
- Huh?
...but tell me, have you ever seen Tristan
get that look in his eye?
[music building]
[Tristan] I'm going to
chip this straight in. I can feel it.
Inside of 120 yards,
Tristan's historical success rate
at chipping is 96%.
Within 130 yards, it's 53%.
One hundred forty yards, 22%.
And within 150 yards, it's down to 7%.
Statistically, it should be impossible
for him to eagle this hole.
[Jason] Do it, Tristan.
[music swells]
[stirring music plays]
[whispers] Go in.
Go in.
Go in!
Way too long.
It's not over
until the ball stops rolling.
[skidding]
[music crescendoes, fades out]
- [ping]
- [clatter echoes]
Fourteen under par.
It's the very definition of misfortune
to have been born
in the same era as this man.
How can he be so much better
than the rest of us?
An amazing display.
Tristan has improved
beyond all expectations.
Incredible.
I wouldn't have believed it
if I hadn't just witnessed it.
[chuckles softly]
- [groans]
- Oh.
- [Aria] Well done. You should be so proud.
- [all chatter admiringly]
It looks like you finally found someone
to force you to challenge yourself.
I did.
You were fantastic, Lancelot!
- [Kate] I think something's wrong.
- Huh?
[Kate] I keep waving to tell them
the green's clear, but no one's answering.
[Tristan grunts]
- I hope it's not Gawain.
- What do you mean? Did something happen?
He has a nasty head wound.
- Oh no!
- [sighs] Mm.
Looked like his forehead
was bleeding quite a lot,
but he wouldn't quit the game.
[Aria] Hmm.
Ugh! Why didn't anyone tell me?
- Gawain, what do we do? Talk to us!
- [Gawain groans]
[Charles] This is bad! We need help!
[groaning in agony]
Jason, call an ambulance immediately!
Understood.
Haven't the two of you boys been out there
on the course with him all this time?
Why didn't you do something,
or at least call for help?
His eyes were telling me,
"I won't quit playing until the end."
[Lancelot] I saw the same thing.
[breath trembles]
[gasps] This is bad.
[Aria panting]
[Yumiko] Are you going to him?
Wait! I'm coming with you!
[Aria] I just hope we're not too late.
[Gawain groaning]
- [grunts, groaning]
- [Charles murmurs anxiously]
[Percival sobbing] Oh, Gawain.
Don't try to stand up! Stay down! Yeah?
You should just stay down
until help gets here, oka... Argh!
[groans]
[Gawain, shakily]
I have no intention... of losing.
[groaning]
I'm gonna make... a hole-in-one!
[Liebel] Your chip shot on that last hole
was amazing, Quester.
Thanks, but it sure was nerve-racking.
I wish Gawain could've seen it.
He would've liked that shot.
[Quester sighs] Mm.
- [Percival] Please stop, Gawain!
- Huh?
- [Liebel gasps]
- Sounds like someone's in trouble.
[Liebel grunts]
[Charles] Come here, you guys!
You gotta stop him from trying to hit!
[suspenseful tinkling music plays]
[gasps]
What the hell?
- Gawain, stop!
- [pants]
Gawain!
[music builds]
[Aria and Yumiko panting]
[Quester and Liebel panting]
[straining]
- [groans]
- [ethereal hum]
[hum intensifies]
[resonant clang]
[blasting]
[music swells]
[pinging]
[Gawain, wearily] Oh, please,
give me a little bit longer.
Let me see this, please.
[grunts, straining] Let me see... my ball...
go... in the cup.
[suspenseful music continues]
[clang echoes]
[Gawain groans dazedly] I...
[breathes shakily]
- I just wanna know... did it...
- [soundscape fades out]
Did it... Did it go in?
[rising whoosh]
[dramatic music plays]
[music fades]
[music crescendoes]
