as a result of our inquiries

following the incidents yesterday.

say the man

shot dead on

the London underground yesterday,

was not connected to the hunt

for Thursday's bombers.

Scotland Yard identified him

as Jean Charles de Menezes,

a 27-year-old Brazilian.

Police said the man's death was a tragedy,

but in a statement, said he had emerged

from a house under surveillance

and his behaviour was suspicious.

[Paddick] Okay,

new statement just released

and they're still using the clothing

and behaviour line.

This is making a bad, sorry,

this is making a horrible situation

even worse.

And we can't keep doing this.

We can't keep being the same old Met,

we need transparency.

Didn't he vault the ticket barrier

and run away?

but if he's innocent, why mention it?

It's like we're saying, "Sorry we k*lled

you, but it was sort of your own fault."

this was not a Kratos operation

that the suspect was a suicide b*mber,

they should challenge him

and react as the situation develops.

how and why that happened.

This is Jean Charles de Menezes

entering Stockwell Tube Station

at 10:00 a.m.

He collects a Metro newspaper

and heads towards the barriers.

He uses his Oyster card,

and walks towards the escalators,

down to the train.

You might be thinking,

"Haven't I read stuff about Mr. Menezes

wearing bulky clothing and vaulting

a ticket barrier?"

If we forward the tape a few minutes,

we can see that the man wearing

bulky clothing and vaulting the barrier

is, in fact, a firearms officer.

Members of the public simply mistook him

for the suspect.

So, why haven't the Met corrected this?

Why are they still saying

that his clothing was suspicious

when he is clearly just wearing

a jean jacket?

That's a question for them, I'm afraid.

This is the view from inside the carriage

after the sh**ting.

It's, er

It's pretty harrowing.

[reporter] The tragic sh**ting by

the police of an innocent man

has not derailed out efforts

to track down and arrest the four men

suspected of attempting to carry out

t*rror1st bombings in London on July 21st.

in connection with this manhunt,

but the police are appealing

to the public

for help in establishing the whereabouts

of these men.

using his brother's passport.

He took the train to Paris,

but from there,

we believe he headed for Rome

Jean Charles never did anything wrong.

He had nothing to hide.

to what they have done.

They have shown that they are incapable
