trying to get eyes on it.

MIREYA [ON RADIO]:
Directly behind the tree.

RONNY [ON RADIO]:
I'm going to move in.

Whatever it was, I'm
not seeing it anymore.

It's gone.

Whatever was picked up
on that thermal camera

did not make a sound.

[bleep] That tree is red hot,
right there on that tree.

ZACK: Now tell me
what just happened.

This whole forest floor
is covered with these ferns

and broken sticks all over.

[footsteps]

ZACK: Rah!

Whatever it was and made that
sound does not want me here.

What is that?

NARRATOR: Russell
is now in pursuit

of a creature that aggressively
charged in his direction.

RUSSELL: I followed that thing
all the way up this point.

And it looks like, just
from this undergrowth,

it's coming up this way.

And, from what I'm
seeing, it gets steep.

It gets really steep.

RUSSELL: Hand over your head.

RUSSELL: Yeah.

All right.

[ominous music]

That looks like
a cave up there.

Just hang back.

I'm gonna go up inside here.

[heavy breathing]

Getting here on
the top, I didn't

know if I was going to corner
something into this thing

or not.

I didn't know what
I was coming into.

Dude-- man, it
smells like a skunk.

It stinks up here.

RUSSELL: Oh.

RUSSELL: It stops here.

It's just a place
where something

could actually rest up here.

This is a dead end, buddy.

There's a large void back there.

It masoned in and came back out.

There's really no space
beyond what I could see.

And there was nothing in there.

But I know I have to keep going.

I've come this far
and gotten this close.

I feel like it was just here.

[bleep] I have been tracking
this thing for hours.

I know that thing's
out here somewhere.

RONNY: Hey.

MIREYA: Hey.

What The hell is going on?

I'm still not really
sure what that was.

NARRATOR: Eight miles
from Russell's position,

primatologist Dr. Mireya Mayor
and investigator Ronny LeBlanc

have just witnessed
what appeared

to be the thermal signature of
a creature hiding behind a tree.

What happened when you walked
into the treeline then?

As soon as I stepped, you
could hear all this noise.

MIREYA: Yeah.

So I'm trying to get
over to that position.

And when I go over there,
there's nothing there.

You didn't hear a thing.

RONNY: No.

It looked so human that I
initially thought it was you,

except when I panned a
little bit further I got

the two heat
signatures-- you and then

the one behind this tree.

It was amorphous, like a blob.

And then it kept tucking
away behind the tree

and disappearing.

RONNY: The fact that it was
peeking behind the tree--

that is why they call
them tree peekers.

That's one of the behaviors
that they can kind of conceal

themselves and peek out
when you're not looking,

run to the next one.

I can tell you this.

Bears don't behave like that.

If it wasn't human, then I
have no idea what that was.

RONNY: The fact that this
thing, whatever it was,

disappeared without making
a sound has my mind racing.

How is this possible?

It doesn't make sense at
all, because that should have

made noise as it moved away.

So I don't know where the
hell that heat signature went.

Well, it looked at
least as big as you.

Wow.

The only thing
I could think of

is I lost that heat
signature because it

went behind the tree.

If whatever was there slipped
back into the tree line,

into the bush,
then, you know, it's

possible that there's a game
trail there or something

that it used as an--

Softer ground, yup.

--as an escape route.

So-- and that's why
you wouldn't hear it.

And it does look like it
opens up when I went back there,

but it's just very hard
to tell with no light.

Tomorrow morning we go back.

We go and explore that area,
see if there were any clues

left behind, and
then see if there's

a game trail that it could
have used to leave the area.

RONNY: OK.

We had a bit of
excitement tonight

Well, I got a really
strong thermal hit

at the base of a
tree, as if something

had been leaning on it.

And something literally
charged me through the--

When I got loud and put
my arms out and moved

towards what was
rushing towards us,

it stopped and just took off.

Did you get a look at it?

Didn't get close

things are getting more

aggressive, which
tells me you're

getting closer and closer
to this thing's home, Russ.

I think it went
over the ridge line.

I'm actually going
to try to pick up

on that trail first
thing tomorrow

morning and see what I can find.

occurrence on the property

of the command center.

intelligent these creatures are

and what they're capable of?

NARRATOR: Ronny and
Mireya are returning

to the swath of
clear cut, where they

spotted a mysterious
creature the night before.

Last night there
was definitely

a heat signature that I was
looking at very close to Ronny.

Ronny then quickly
went in to see what it

was and couldn't see anything.

Before we investigated that
spot, we set up trail cams.

So today we're going to
check those trail cams,

but then also to
see if we can find

any game trails that might give
us clues as to what that was.

All right, let's
check this one out.

Nothing on this one.

Let's head down this game trail.

RONNY: Right here.

So--

So you were sitting there.

Yup.

I was right in front of that.

So when I walked over here,
it did seem to open up a bit.

Now that we can see
this in the daylight--

Yeah, and there
is a trail here.

Yeah.

Whatever I saw was just near
the end of this tree line.

But this game trail
seems to go on and on.

Yeah.

You can see, you know, there's
a lot of movement here.

Look at that.

Definitely a trail.

If you didn't hear
anything, really the--

the only area that something
can move in and not

make a lot of sound is using--
- Is this.

- --this trail.
- Absolutely.

And, you know, and if
this trail keeps on going,

I feel like it's going
right up to that mountain.

And it's going to continue
going up this way.

Even though we're
coming up empty,

there is a vast
amount of area for us

to investigate and check out.

This goes straight
up into the hills.

And to capture
this thing, we have

to position ourselves
to be at the right place

at the right time.

Right now, that appears to be
at the top of this mountain.

Looks like that's
where we're headed.

RUSSELL: There's been a
little bit of traffic here,

you can tell.

NARRATOR: Now, nine miles from
Ronny and Mireya's position,

Russell has returned
to the location

where he spotted a
strange heat signature

on the trunk of a tree.

Soon after, he
believes he was charged

by a large unidentified animal.

So if you look out
here ahead of me,

it looks like something
has passed through here.

You can see it pushed
the top layer of moss

and rotted vegetation
off, and pushed it down

and made a pretty
big flat impression.

I want to have a close look
around that tree and the area

around it, if we can find a
clue of what kind of animal

that was.

Right through here is where
we came through last night.

You can see our own disturbances
in this dirt right here.

If you'll stay on where
we walked through,

I'm gonna look for
tracks over here.

So the thermal hit that
we got would be right out

there in front of us somewhere.

Find that same tree.

Smells gamey through here.

It stinks.

Look at this
impression right here.

This stuff has
been pressed down.

It's literally not up as flat.

I wonder if that was the
thermal we got, was something

stood in front of here.

I think that thermal
was right in here.

Does that make sense?

So here's my guess.

Something was standing here.

And when we came
up on it, it left.

And either it was close
enough to the tree

or leaning on the
tree that it would

have left heat on that tree.

I mean, that's a good
foot over top of my head.

Bear doesn't stand on all
fours with his back that high.

Everything points
to something having

been up against that tree.

a hair sample attached to
the tree where he spotted

a mysterious thermal signature.

It might be the proof that I've
been seeking my whole life,

and I'm willing to bet that's
what rushed across the brush

at us last night.

Last night I tracked whatever
it was the charged me,

and it brought me off this
path into this overhang.

And the trail went cold.

I believe it went
around the overhang.

Today I'm going to follow
that exact same trajectory.

I need to stay on this trail.

I believe the reason it charged
me is because I got too close.

That's where I want
to stay, is close.

Nothing that big moves around
without leaving tracks.

NARRATOR: After tracking
the animal for six hours,

Russell has hiked
past the rocky outcrop

and arrived at the
mountaintop directly above.

There's a break.

Something came right
straight through here.

See how that's all bent out?

Looks like an
old logging trail.

Let's follow this
along a little ways,

see if it opens up up here.

This thing just
plunges straight down.

And that's-- that's some
seriously steep terrain.

RUSSELL: Can you actually
see that from here?

It's a lake.

That's awesome.

I want to make my
way down there.

If you don't have water, you're
not going to survive out here.

So you got plenty
to eat, and look how

thick the trees are around it.

You've got seclusion.

I mean, look at this
old growth timber

right next to the water's edge.

That's not bad.

And the vegetation there is
certainly going to be thick.

Lots to eat right through there.

Everything around this like
screams Bigfoot habitat.

It's very, very steep cliffs
all the way down to the water.

It's secluded.

It's certainly going to
be a water source for all

the game around the area.

Whatever it was that
charged me last night,

I'd bet anything this
is where it resides.

This is his home base.

I need to find a--

a nice clean place to
drop down off this hill.

Can you see how steep this is?

If I just drop this rock--

There's no way I'm
going to walk down that.

I need-- That thing
is still traveling.

Yeah.

This is-- this is too
aggressive of a pitch for us.

hike down the steep cliff,

Russell has arrived
at the dense forest

just outside the hidden lake.

He believes this is a likely
habitat for the creature

that he's been tracking.

getting more and more

bear side down here, too.

The closer we get to that water,
the more sign the wildlife

we're getting.

Look at all that hair.

That's a lot of hair.

Those are long hairs.

Look at this big cluster.

That's the nicest
find I've ever had.

As far as hair goes, I've
never had samples like this.

These are just like those
other samples we found

earlier, but a bit longer.

They're not bear, not elk,
definitely not a cougar.

Zack, we're at the open.

I know we're at the lake.

It's just down this way.

Let's see what we can see.

I want to look down at
this tree line right here.

This is that old growth timber.

I cannot see through these
trees with my thermal.

There's no way I could
quietly get down there,

and I don't want to make
myself known right now.

We need to find a
solution to be able to see

through these trees.

I've been tracking

for the last several
days, and it's brought me

to this incredible
basin with a really

nice lake at the bottom of it.

That's incredible.

This is the perfect spot.

It's like a funnel.

Everything has just
literally pulled you

and drawn you into the center.

Do you think that that's
where the Bigfoot are living?

Yes.

This lake is exactly
where we need to be.

I'm a few hundred
yards away from it,

but there's this incredible
thick wall of trees and growth

that forbid me to see
into that water area.

I can use my thermals, but it's
not the right tool for the job.

I need to be able
to find a way to be

able to see this lake without
giving my position away.

If that thing is here, I
don't want to announce myself.

Seeing as how we've learned how
much these thermal cameras help

in tracking these creatures
down and you want to explore

that valley, I think I might
have a piece of tech that's

really going to help you out.

any warm body with what we

RUSSELL: That's an incredible
piece of equipment right there.

IVAN: This will be up in the
air as long as you need it.

Once you want it

This thing is pretty quiet.

still tell that there's

through the surrounding forest

towards the lake, hoping
to drive the creature out

onto the banks, where
Russell can observe

it with the tethered drone.

Right now I'm looking for
anything that puts out a heat

trace that would be
moving on the screen

anywhere near or around
this water source.

I got Ronny and
Mireya on their way

on the outside of this
lake, on both sides.

They've actually separated.

They both are equipped
with thermal imaging

to monitor any of the
areas I can't see.

There's a lot of obstacles.

You could easily
twist an ankle, so I

have to watch where I step.

The hardest part
is that I can't

see even inches in front of me.

on the other side of that lake.

something on this side, too.

further towards the tree line

and get away from that
water a little bit more.

are you still getting sounds?

something to my left.

I heard it again, and
it's moving very quietly.

I'm getting the impression that
it's trying to stay hidden.

possible that whatever it is

is tracking you.

Back further out of that

I see movement.

MIREYA: It looks like--

Whatever that is, it is
walking across the forest.

It's huge.

This is the biggest heat
signature I've ever seen,

and now there's another
one to the left.

This thing is huge.

creatures walking over there.

directly across from me.

They're walking
across the forest,

and it almost looks
like they're poking

their heads around a tree
looking in my direction.

of a canopy right now.

I'm unable to see
you from the sky.

outside of my tent just now.

It sounded like
something was sort

of making its way through the
