It's pretty far away,
it's a remote spot,
but I know that it is barely
even been touched at all
by suction dredges.
And our last trip out...

There's this little voice
in my head that says that
there's this treasure
out there I haven't found yet.

to successful mining.
Today we'll be talking about,
an excavation barge.
Pound for pound,
probably the best way
to refine gold
out of the ocean.
So, first-off, excavator.
So, I don't know anything
about the excavator.
So, the excavator barge idea
is very simple.
You take scoops of dirt
from the ocean,
you run in your wash plant
and you catch it
with a sluice box.
There's a lot of advantages
when you have
the excavation barge.
Advantage number one,
you don't have to get wet
all day long,
spend your day on your knees,
flipping over rocks.
The machine does
all the work yourself.
Advantage number two,
you can get material
that suction dredging
just can't get.
As a suction miner,
we're just getting
the loose material on top,
you know, the, the easy stuff.
The excavation barge,
rips right through
that clay layer
down to the second clay layer
and gets gold
from thousands of years ago.
One, scoop of that bucket,
is more than
my little six-inch dredge
can do in an hour.
[bell dinging]
okay, we'll cut this *bleep*
'cause I'm now looking like
a *bleep* idiot
at getting on here.
So, here we are in the c*ck
of the excavator.
It feels like you're in
a videogame already.
A 15 year old kid can do this.
