wonderful huh and we have a special

guest Jim Clark who's one of Shamu's

trainers from SeaWorld and he'll be

talking to us about how intelligent

marine mammals are well children you're

off to a good start but you know I think

I would like you to find a way to

incorporate some interesting facts into

marine world for you little guys that

means a world of oceans for example

we'll be looking at marine mammals in

other words dolphins and whales and some

of the other fishes in the sea so let's

to present question time with Jim

Clark i'm thrilled to be sitting here

with one of SeaWorld's k*ller whale

trainers Jim Clark good morning Jim good

morning Janet how are you good and you

good thank you well first of all is it

difficult to teach a whale new tricks

well no but actually the term tricks is

not what we we call them tricks are

something you might see in a magic show

but the k*ller whales and dolphins do

something that we call behaviors now a

behavior is a natural activity or

something that you would see them do

normally out in the wild for example

when a whale jumps up and lands on its

side we call that a breach sometimes

they'll slap their pecs on the water or

their tail flukes well those are all

behaviors and we put them under some

kind of queue so that we can ask them to

do that at one specific time do you

reward them for doing this we certainly

do each time the k*ller whale does a

behavior correctly they get a reward

naturally they like to eat fish so we'll

use fish sometimes but sometimes they

like a nice rub down on the back or

scratching their their tummies or even

us acting crazy and kind of stupid they

like us to do that so we use those

things as rewards how much does Shamu

eat a day the largest k*ller whale we

have probably eats about 250 to 300 lb

every day wow how big is she going to

get well a large bull k*ller whale can

weigh about 13,000 lbs and reach a

length of between 25 to 30 feet is it

true that you actually ride shampoo yes

it is in fact that's what I enjoy about

my job i get to swim at the k*ller

whales every day were you scared the

first time that you did it yeah you you

really are uh because the k*ller whales

are so big but as you get to know them

you become more comfortable with them i

heard that whales like to watch videos

is this true well where you heard that

is the show that we're doing now is

called Shamu New Visions and that

includes a large basic a TV screen

that's on stage as part of our set what

does Shamu like to watch the best well

probably the favorite video we have

there for the whales is a birth video uh

we have a very successful breeding

program with our k*ller whales and as

part of the show we show one of those

births actually happening and it's the

the k*ller whale the female that is in

the show right right there and she likes

to watch the birth of her baby how many

whales has um SeaWorld bred we have 11

baby k*ller whale k*ller whales in all

our SeaWorld parks and that includes

grandbaby Shamu the very first one

that's a second generation k*ller whale

that's very interesting well thank you

Jim thank you Janet did you know that

one day the Kids song kids went to a sea

life park and had the most marvelous

time here's the video that we made that

octopus can I see a shark do a seaion or

a k*ller whale that can jump and

twirl i love the water world

first to the last look at all the fishes

in the deep blue sea some are so tiny

some are bigger than me i like to watch

them as they float and fly almost seems

like they're up in the sky see an
