man's best friend the domesticated

canine we are going to be looking at

hunting dogs working dog water dogs

retrievers and specially trained dog

like seeing-eye dogs and drug sniffing

dog

okay kids but before we explore the

world of dogs how about a preview of

have we have to a black lab named spot

and a collie named Tristan spot a real

Tristan's old and sweet that's them it

sounds like you really love them I love

Hollies they are so beautiful maybe

that's what I should get they are

wonderful pets but they do take a lot of

time we have to brush Tristan every day

hi Chris maybe you can help I'm trying

to pick out a dog that should get what a

happy problem first so many really great

dogs to choose from

I haven't overachiever that's him he's a

wonderful pet what makes him so great

well they're very smart

they're used for seeing-eye dogs and

love kids they're so affectionate and

kiss you all the time they sound great

they are the retrievers are hunting dogs

so they love to run long distances so if

you get one make sure you have the time

to take them on a good long walk every

did you ever wonder why firemen and dumb

Mason's hang out together I sure did

why is that Dalmatians used to be stable

dogs and they get along wonderfully with

horses back in the Middle Ages when

people got around in horse and carriages

the Dalmatians used to run alongside the

horses and when there was a fire and the

water wagon would have to get through

the crowded streets the Dalmatians would

run ahead and cheered away so there's a

durable spotted dogs or little heroes oh

sweet

I wonder if you can help me I'm trying

to side with dog to get well I've got a

beagle named Buddy and a German Shepherd

named rusty there are such great dogs I

recommend that you get two yeah if you

get two they can play with each other

which is good because they won't get

forward yeah but you still have doubled

the work looking after them I'd

recommend an Australian Cattle Dog

that's what I have

they are very independent oh dear there

are so many choices cue now we're off to

the farm where a good friend John Jacob

I've got a door Sheldon puppy

what's a Sheltie they look like

miniature colleagues they're really cute

I didn't know if I should get a puppy or

a grown dog

well puppies aren't readily cute but you

have to train them and that's a lot of

work

yeah they chew everything and you have

to teach them to walk on a leash nicely

and the house break them and teach them

of commands I've been really recommend

then if you get a puppy you go to

obedience class for a couple of bucks to

really train your dog it's worth it mr.

good morning Clint and good morning I'm

going speaker hey are all dogs trainable

yes most of them are yeah which dogs are

good for kids to have as pets well that

depends on a lot of factors you've got

to look at the size of your house the

size of your yard who's gonna walk the

dog who's gonna take the dog to the vet

who's gonna take care of him who's gonna

feed him there's a lot of things to

consider

it's a pound a good place to get pets

some of the pounds are yes very good

places because there's a lot of unwanted

dogs can kids train their own dog yes

with proper supervision yes can you show

us something that kids can train their

dogs to do I think the first thing you

might maybe want to try and teach the

dog is a sit because from there you can

go elsewhere

so I'll put her in a stand Emma stand

yeah that's good so I don't even have to

say that to her she'll watch me probably

and this is how you would do it with

your dog Emma good that was a signal and

then I gave the reward to immediately do

you teach your dogs even fancier tricks

yes I do but they're actually behaviors

they're not tricks it's a really

specific behavior and I'll show you one

Emma and I'd give him a sit Q sit very

Beasley let's say he's got to lay down

in a film and and put his head down I

would go down down good and if he's

if in a film he was hurt and he had to

get somewhere this is how I would do it

or not too little it's hair short or

medium it's playful and it's good with

kids but you don't have to take it on

long walks or runs and it's very smart I

knew kids that don't for you an American

mixed breed and there's a big selection

available right now at the pound a mutt

and one that needs a home what a perfect

idea
