04x02 - In Kyra's Pocket / Sandbox / Yee Ping's Appendix

it had been

a dress-up kind of day katie learned

that

tying a big red scarf around your head

didn't really mean it would stay on

and orbee found out that a mustache can

make you sneeze

and they both discover that walking on

high heels

can be very wobbly

teddy called kira all through the

morning to see if she wanted to come

over and play

but kira had been off at an appointment

with her mom and couldn't

at lunch time as two rather interesting

looking astronauts sat down at the table

two sips space suit through their straws

there was a knock on the door katie and

orbee tripped over their air hoses and

goggles

laughing all the way and finally arrived

at the door

when katie opened the door kyra stood

there she was a little surprised to see

orbee

dressed up and katie with big goggles on

but when she realized it was her two

friends

she smiled and said bye

katie noticed she seemed a bit quiet but

orbee tooted through his air tube and

everybody laughed in kira came

she hung up her jacket there was a big

bulge in one of her pockets

but katie and orbee were so eager to

finish their lunch and get to a game of

astronauts

that they didn't even ask what it was

kyra attached it to make sure it was

still there and then ran down the hall

to the kitchen after katie and orbee

[Music]

once they'd eaten the soup and jiggly

dessert the three friends went upstairs

to play astronauts a little longer

kira didn't really feel like dressing up

too much

katie asked if anything was wrong but

kira smiled one of her

brilliant smiles and said no she did

want to play but she didn't feel like

dressing up

orbeez showed kyra the cardboard box

spacecraft and kira climbed in

they flew around the room a few times

and orbee raised his helmet and burbled

to his friends at

being an astronaut was pretty hot

business maybe it was a good time to

play something else katie giggled that

orbian

kira squinted across the room to see

what he was doing but missed it

they decided it would be fun to play

office and katie was the boss and kira

was the other boss and

orbee was the person taking notes and

making all kinds of calls

orbee was really funny when he was

pretending to be on the phone

everybody laughed

kyra still didn't laugh as much as he

should have

and katie wondered why her friend wasn't

very happy

after a little while kyra said she had

to go downstairs for a minute

and she hurried out of the room katie

and orbee looked at each other

and then orbee told her he had to make a

call

and that made katie laugh again

it was only a minute or two before kyra

came back up again

or he thought maybe she had to ask mom

something and

didn't think much of it tooted

that he had taken as many calls as he

could stand and now he was thinking that

a game of really cool people on a park

bench would be fun

costume flew and finally kira broke into

a smile and they were all dressed up

orbee had a funky looking hat on

katie wore a spectacular necklace and

jacket

kyra put on a pair of overalls that were

really neat

orbee held his hand up high and told

them to wait a second

they were just not quite cool enough

katie and kira looked at each other they

had no idea what orbee was thinking

and just as they were wondering if he

would ever come back he

popped back into the room with a pair of

plate glances on

he looked seriously very cool in them

and katie loved them she wanted to be

cool too when she started for her

costume box

where there was another pair but then

she stopped

because she realized that she only had

one pair

and that would leave kira with none kira

asked orbee

if he really thought the glasses were

cool and orbee gave

a big grin tipped his head she could

tell that he really did

she could also see that although the

glasses were big

orbee looked terrific

she told katie to get her pair of

glasses and with a swish of the

baggy bottoms of the overalls she

hurried down the stairs again

[Music]

orbee peaked as she went down the stairs

and then gave katie uh i have no idea

what she's up to

look katie was just pulling her orange

and rhinestone glasses out of their case

when kira walked back into the room and

when they looked

both katie and orbee stopped in surprise

there on kyra's face fitting absolutely

perfectly and looking cooler

than the other pairs was a bright pink

pair of glasses

only cures were real

katie and orbee couldn't believe that

kyra was so lucky

and they looked at her face from all

different angles kira giggled

and tried hard to stay still while they

examined her shiny rims

both katie and orbee wanted a pair and

they raced down the stairs to ask mom

kira followed behind them

when mom admired kyra's glasses she

beamed

mom explained that kira had found out

from the eye doctor

that she needed to wear glasses to see

clearly

orbee looked right into kyra's face and

examined her eyes

her eyes didn't look like they were sick

or broken

mom explained that they need help and

the glasses were doing that

katie told kyra she was so lucky i have

to wear something so cool

kyra smiled at her friends she was so

glad that they liked her bright pink

glasses

because she had cried when she found out

that she had to wear them

orbee couldn't believe it kara said that

she didn't want kids to call her names

and tease her about having four eyes and

all

katie just shook her head she told kira

that all

anyone could possibly say was that you

look

really cool kira touched her glasses

she was beginning to really like having

to wear them and she was

really beginning to like seeing her two

great friends

so clearly for the first time

it wasn't long before everybody knew

kyra had glasses

and the whole neighborhood thought she

was cool

[Music]

katie was glad her eyes were working

well but if she ever had to wear glasses

she hoped she'd look as cool as kira

and you know if your eyes ever need help

and you have to wear glasses to see

better

i bet you'll look as cool as kira

i just know you will

did you know

[Music]

lots of monkeys have really long arms

such long arms help them to swing from

tree to tree

in their jungle homes

they also come in handy when bananas are

just

out of reach

[Music]

it had been a day of waiting or be

discovered that

even if you looked out the window 25

times the truck from the hardware store

doesn't come any faster

katie found out that even if you draw 10

pictures it doesn't mean the truck will

be there when you finish

and they both learned that putting all

your sandbox

toys on the floor in the living room

still wasn't helping

dad had just bought them a brand new

sandbox it was bigger than the one they

used to have

and was made of a brightly colored

plastic it was going to be great

orbee burgled that he was going to make

the absolute biggest sand castle in the

whole wide world

and katie told him she was going to dig

a tunnel and make a lake with roads all

around it

orbee burbled to all his friends and

told them

that they were invited over to see the

new sandbox when it came

so when the truck from the hardware

store finally drove down the street

you can only imagine how fast they shot

out the front door

[Music]

katie and orbeez stood way back and

peered into the truck to see their

sandbox

the man looked at a piece of paper and

climbed right up on the truck

and the man told them he'd found it and

he rolled the sandbox to the edge of the

truck

dad moved over to help him

[Music]

and they both lifted it down

[Music]

it was big orbee couldn't help but

imagine his

huge sand castle in it and katie

imagined her tunnel and lake

and they looked at each other and jumped

up and down

the truck driver and dad hauled the

sandbox around to the back of the house

with katie and orbee

dancing and cartwheeling beside them

yi ping and andy popped around into the

backyard

they were carrying their sand toys both

katie and orbee beamed as he ping and

andy

looked at the size of the new sandbox it

was going to be

great

dad took the man's hand and walked

around to the front of the house with

him

in two seconds the four friends were

lying inside the sandbox and stretching

to see if

any of them could reach from one side to

the other but i have to tell you

it was so big nobody could

brynn and phoebe were carrying their

sand toys too

and when they looked in the backyard

orbee popped his head up and they raced

over

dad came around with a very heavy

wheelbarrow

it had two big bags of sand piled in it

and after several trips back and forth

to the sandbox

dumping sand and getting more the

sandbox

was finally full katie and orbee raced

to get their toys in the living room

while their friends

jumped into the sandbox

[Applause]

as katie and orbee raced out the back

door

orbee stopped dad was pouring a cold

drink in the kitchen and it looked like

a really good idea

orbeez stopped for a quick glass of

juice

and hurried on his way

everybody was in the sandbox digging and

laughing and having a good time

dakota was there with his sand toys too

orbee burbled that he was coming and to

make room

when orbee got to the sandbox and was

ready to

jump in there was no room left

the sandbox was big but not big enough

for all those friends

and orbee

[Music]

orbee looked at the sandbox and suddenly

felt sad

he'd waited all morning for it to be

ready and now that it was here

there was no room for him katie called

that she'd saved him a place

and that was nice and all but there sure

wasn't enough room to build the biggest

sand castle

in the whole wide world

orbee dragged his sand toys over to dad

who is now sitting on a lawn chair he

told dad that

he really didn't feel like playing in

the sandbox anymore

dad reminded him that he had invited

everybody and

and or he nodded that he had he looked

at the sandbox

dad smiled and said there would be

plenty of time to build the biggest sand

castle in the world

but right now it looked like orbee was

having

the biggest sandbox party in the world

orbee pricked up at this

when he looked over at his friends it

sort of did look like a sandbox party

said waiting was one of the hardest

things to do

but while his friends were here he might

just have to wait

and build his castle at a time when they

were not around

i think orbee agreed with dad but at

that moment katie came over and asked

was coming she told him the sandbox was

fun maybe a little crowded but

he should come and try it

orbee looked at katie and then back at

dad

dad smiled and orbee smiled back and he

gave dad a big smooch

and grabbed katie's hand

at the sandbox everybody was busy doing

their own thing

but by this time no one could really

make anything

bryn got annoyed at dakota for sticking

his elbow on her nose

and yi ping almost cried and andy

stepped on her mountain

the sandbox was big but maybe not big

enough for

all the friends to build different

things in orbee looked at katie

[Music]

verbal that he had an excellent idea the

friends all stopped what they were doing

and leaned in to listen

he told them of his great big castle

idea

and how he wondered if they all wanted

to help

together they could make a fantastic

castle

no one said anything for a moment and

then they thought about it

and then there was a huge hoopla as they

jumped into

castle building when they were all

finished

orbee was thrilled and so were his

friends katie was very proud of him

because he had made a great plan

that was good for everyone

and dad was proud of him because he had

taken something that wasn't going very

well

and turned it into something amazing

and do you know that to this very day

orbee sandbox party

were the biggest sand castle in the

world was built

is one of the neighborhood's favorite

days to remember

and if you had been there i know

you'd remember it too

did you know did you know did you know

did you know

when you go roller skating it's very

important to wear

all your padding you'll need a helmet

knee and elbow pads and wrist guards

if you're not a very good skater

you might want padding in other places

too

[Music]

it had been a great day for playing in

the park

katie discovered that if you go down the

slide face-first

you'd better have your hands ready on

your land

orbee discovered that the monkey bars

were a great place to hang by your toes

and wave your new flag

[Music]

and they both discovered that when yi

ping isn't feeling too well

she doesn't like to run and play much

yi ping had been sick and although she

was feeling better she wasn't really

playing the way she usually did

katie asked if maybe she wanted to go

home and

it was at that moment that yi ping just

burst

right into tears and told katie her

tummy really really hurt

orbee flipped off the monkey bars and

shot down the sidewalk to get e ping's

bum

katie sat her down on the park bench and

gave her a big hug

the hug didn't help the pain in yi

ping's tummy much

but it sure made her feel better to know

that katie was right there

in about a minute and a half y-ping's

mom drove up in the car with orbee

pointing at the park bench

her mom ran across the grass with a

blanket and in a moment

she wrapped yi ping up and was hurrying

back toward the car

as she settled yeeping on the seat she

explained to the two worried friends

that she was taking eeping straight to

the doctor

[Applause]

they shouldn't worry she was going to be

fine

katie and orbee smiled and waved

nervously at her as she drove away but

they were still worried about her

[Music]

when they told mom all that had happened

mum said how very proud she was of them

for helping yi ping

they'd done a wonderful job

[Music]

later that afternoon the phone rang and

it was yi ping's mother

she told mum that yi ping had gone to

the hospital to have her appendix taken

out

once off the phone mom explained that

the important part was that yi ping was

fine and although she was sick and a

little sore

it was now her job to get better

with that mom slapped the table and told

katie and orbee

that it was now their job to help her do

that

[Music]

katie and orbee looked at each other how

could they do that when yi yeeping was

in the hospital and they weren't home

mom told them that it was fun to receive

things from friends when you were in the

hospital

[Music]

mom called the florist and had some

flowers sent to eping's room

katie drew a great big get well card

orbee wrapped up a grand puzzle they

thought eeping would like

the friends chose three of their

favorite books for yeeping to look at

well she was getting better and mom made

some modeling dough for her to play with

by the time they were finished they had

quite a big box of things for yeeping to

do at the hospital

that night mom delivered it

yi ping was so happy to get something

from her friends

and loved what they had sent

[Music]

the next day katie and orbee were

allowed to go and visit yping at the

hospital

a hospital sound is scary to katie and

she wasn't too sure what to expect

i have to tell you when she got there

she was

very surprised so was arby

as they walked down the hall toward yi

ping's room a little boy with a big

bandage on his head

roared down the hall beside them on a

tricycle

he waved and smiled and kitty looked at

mom

she wasn't even allowed to ride her bike

in the house let alone a hospital

then a lady pushing a cart full of bed

toys and books

came by and told katie and orbee that

she was glad they were visiting today

when they walked into the playroom yi

ping shrieked with joy at scene

and she grabbed what they call her iv

pole and rolled it toward them

she gave them both a big hug

but katie and orbee were a little upset

at seeing the tube from the pole

go right into the back of yi ping's hand

when katie asked eeping said it didn't

hurt her at all and

it helped her stomach calm down and get

better

they were both happy to hear that at

that moment the play lady came

in and explained that they were about to

start the puppet show

katie and orbee couldn't believe that

they even had puppet shows at the

hospital

[Music]

everyone including guests were invited

to sit down and watch

as the puppets were making everybody

laugh a nurse all in pink

came in and checked yeeping's iv pool

he attached a new bag to it and took

away the old one

yi ping didn't even watch her and she

was having so much fun with the puppet

show

when the show was over yi ping and her

friends went back to her room

yi ping had a huge bed with a little

stool to step on to get on it and the

back of the bed moved up and down

e-ping also had a tray that rolled on

wheels and

slid right across her bed it was for

having meals and playing on

in the windows hill were the flowers mom

and katie and orbee had sent they were

very

beautiful yiping had drawn pictures and

put them right up on the wall

katie's card sat on the bedside table

[Music]

katie and orbee like jeeping's room and

just then the doctor and e-ping's mom

stepped in and said that

they had some really good news

everybody listened she told yi ping

that the iv tube was coming out if

everything was okay

and she would go home tomorrow the three

friends cheered

the hospital was a great place for

getting better but there was

no place like home

[Music]

was swinging on the monkey bars again

and everybody was happy to have her back

e ping showed katie and orbee that she

was now a member of the

scar belly club and although she would

never like to be sick again she showed

her scar

proudly yi ping's parents told katie and

orbee that they may have saved her life

by being so smart about getting help

[Music]

katie and orbee were very glad to have

been of help when ye ping was sick

and if one day you or someone you love

should need to go to the hospital

you'll know that it can be a friendly

place and the people there will help you

get better

i know you'll appreciate all of their

help
