04x13 - Sticky Fingers / The Train Museum / Babysitting Megan

it had been a lazy morning so far

katie discovered that ladybugs move a

lot faster when they fly

orbee learned that an acorn takes a long

time to get buried in the ground

and they both figured out that toads

loved to hide in the flower garden

it was laundry day one of kitty and

orbeez favorites because

they could play a game of sheet shadows

as the sheets hung on the line and

flapped in the breeze you had to jump on

the shadows and out in the sunlight

it was going to be great except that

when mum picked up the box of laundry

detergent

the box was almost empty it was clear

mom and katie and orbee would have to

walk up to mr singh's store and buy more

detergent

katie and orbee love to go see what

interesting things mr singh had in his

store

they decided to skip all the way there

which

wasn't easy and they were laughing and

out of breath when they walked through

the door

mr singh was glad to see them and said

good morning

while mom went to find the detergent

katie look at the bubble blowing kits

and the skipping ropes that were on the

shelves

orbee walked around the store looking at

everything from birthday cards to wax

paper

[Music]

katie was remembering all the huge

wobbly

wet bubbles she and orbee made at the

cottage

and orbee was wondering how grownups

knew what all the boxes and packages

were for

mom found the detergent and went up to

mr singh at the cash register

orbee stood beside mom at the counter he

loved the jingle of the cash register

as he was listening for it he discovered

to his delight that he was standing

nose to rapper with a whole row of

yummy chocolate bars there were

lots of them chocolate bars with

nuts chocolate stuffed with caramel

solid chocolate bars

orbee licked his lips and as he looked

he forgot about the jingle at the cash

register and started to think

about how really good a chocolate bar

would be

especially one with caramel in it he was

so caught up in his thought that he just

reached out and took one as the cash

register jingled

when mom got her change back and said

goodbye

orbee was still staring at the delicious

chocolate bar

mom said let's go he looked up and then

scooted after mom and katie out the door

[Music]

at home in the backyard mom hung up wet

sheets and katie practiced staying on

the sheet shadows

orbee fingered his wonderful chocolate

bar now usually

orbee shared everything with katie but

this looks so good

that he forgot about sharing and thought

about

eating in a second the wrapper was off

but orbeez smile

disappeared when he saw a runny mess of

chocolate

and golden goo ooze out of a wrapper and

all over his hand

the day was so warm the chocolate bar

had completely melted

orbee gave a sad toot this wasn't a

yummy taste treat this was a mess

and he wasn't very happy about it

[Music]

mom was just pinning the last cheetah up

when orbee with chocolate-covered hands

appeared at her side

he told her his chocolate bar had melted

and he'd gotten it all over him mom said

if he'd stand still for two seconds till

she got this last sheet hung up

she'd get a washcloth and clean them up

katie stopped shadow hopping and asked

orbee

where he'd got the chocolate bar when

mom heard orbee burble at the store

mom stopped what she was doing and

turned to orbee

she asked if he got the chocolate bar at

mr singh store today

and orbee nodded mom didn't say anything

but the look on her face told orbee

that something was wrong

as mom cleaned orbee's hand off and put

the chocolatey mess in the plastic bag

she pointed out that she didn't buy a

chocolate bar

or orbee looked at her and katie looked

at him

mom explained it whether he meant to or

not he took something from the store

without paying for it

and that was stealing orbeez eyes

snapped

wide open and he actually gasped

stealing he had stolen something

he didn't mean to or he felt absolutely

awful it was just that the chocolate bar

looks so good

he'd picked it up and when they left he

still had it with him

mom knew that orbee never intended to

steal it but

it was mr sings and they would have to

take it back and explain

or be quickly tilted that they should go

right away

he didn't want mr singh to think he had

done something bad on purpose

mama asked orbee to get his piggy bank

because

he would need to pay for the chocolate

bar orbee got his piggy bank and grabbed

the gooey mess and

headed for the door

when they arrived back at the store mr

singh smiled and said hello again but he

could tell from their faces that

something was wrong

orbee walked slowly to the counter and

put the melted chocolate bar on the

counter

he burbled that he was sorry

he didn't mean to steal mr singh looked

at the melted goo

orbee told him it had looked so good he

just picked it up

he tried not to cry he felt so bad and

he verbally that

he wouldn't ever do it again

mr singh looked at the melted mess and

then at orbeez

and he told orbee that it was important

not to take things that weren't yours

in a store everything belongs to the

owner

until you've paid the money for it and

made it your own

orbeez sniffed and looked at katie

mr singh told orbee that he could tell

that he had learned a difficult lesson

today

he looked at orbeez piggy bank and told

orbee the price

mom helped orbee cut out his pennies and

when he had enough

he gave them to mr singh mr singh told

him that the chocolate bar was now his

orbee didn't want it anymore it had made

him feel so bad

he asked mr singh to throw it out mr

singh opened up the cash register and it

jingled

orbee smiled and thanked mr singh

on the way home katie took his hand

and said they hadn't had a game of sheet

shadows yet mom smiled at him and

in a flash they ran down the sidewalk to

their house

orbee felt much better so

the next time you're in a store remember

everything there belongs to the owner

until it's paid for

i just know that you will

[Music]

ladybugs are very clever little insects

they're helpful in the garden keeping

other insects away so that flowers can

grow

some people think that they're good luck

charms

if one lands on you it's a special treat

i don't know if being covered in them is

extra lucky though

[Music]

it had been a day of getting ready

katie discovered that even though you

think you left your shoes in your closet

they could be in the front hole

[Music]

orbee found out that even though you

want to eat your breakfast quickly

sometimes it goes down slowly

and they both learn that when you want

to shake your change out of the piggy

bank

all the little coins come out first

orbee was very excited today they were

going to the train museum

katie i have to say really wanted to go

to the dinosaur museum so she was

a bit disappointed every time orbee

tooted that it would be fun

katie felt a whole lot like it wouldn't

as they got out of the car the museum

they saw

a huge locomotive that's another word

for train

the train wheel was so big orbee came up

less than halfway on them he did a spin

of joy

katie looked at that huge wheeling and

she didn't feel too excited about it

as they headed toward the door of the

museum mom reminded her

it had been orbee's turn to choose

katie sighed trains were boring

[Music]

once they got inside the huge building

even katie had to smile

the trains were towering above them

there were red yellow and green old ones

and

shiny silver new ones the first train

was long

they had to look a way down to see the

red caboose at the very end

the caboose was a car at the end of the

train

orbee knew the conductors used to swing

their lanterns from the back of the

caboose

so the station master could tell the end

of a train had passed the station

conductors were the people who worked on

the train

katie was thinking trains were only fun

if you were taking a trip on them

when a man popped out of a door on the

side of the train and said

all aboard

[Music]

orbee looked around nobody looked like a

board to him

dad and mom leapt to action dad took

katie's hand and reached for orbit they

all raced for the steps

on the train where the conductor was

waving

although in a silly way katie was trying

not to have fun at the train museum

she she giggled

especially when the conductor asked

where their luggage was

dad helped katie climb up the great big

steps and into the train

orbee he was so excited he did a

backflip which made the conductor laugh

he told the family that they would just

have to pretend to put their suitcases

on the shelves

and they all did dad and orbee

pretended to have a huge heavy trunk

even the conductor and katie helped them

with it

then he showed them a little tiny

washroom it was so small

that you had to close the door to move

around inside

the conductor asked them to please take

their seats

there were rows and rows of seats for

the passengers

and they found one place with four seats

facing each other and sat down

the conductor told them he'd need to see

their tickets

dad handed everybody one of the tickets

that he'd bought

to enter the museum the conductor

punched a hole through each ticket

and gave it back dorby

orbee peaked through the hole in his

ticket

as the conductor put away his hole punch

he asked if they would like to see the

sleeping cars

[Music]

katie and orbee were out of their seats

in no time katie i have to say he was

starting to have a whole lot of fun at

the train museum

the sleeping car had a long narrow

passageway

and a lot of doors the conductor

explained

passengers slept here if they were

taking a very long trip

they peeked into one of the little rooms

and saw a bed pulled down from the wall

mom told them sleeping on the train was

wonderful

the clickety clack of the rails and the

motion of the train kind of

rocked you to sleep with the chuckle the

conductor invited them to see the

caboose

orbeez zapped right in behind him he

knew the weight of the caboose

he hurried right through it to the

little platform at the back

orbee was outside he pretended to wave a

lantern at the station master

katie pretended to wave goodbye to

people

they were about to climb down when the

conductor mentioned that perhaps they

had missed the best part

kitty wondered what that was and he said

the engine in seconds they were climbing

up to see

the engine there were hundreds of

buttons and a

huge break in the window

when katie and orbee looked out of the

window they realized

they were up very high the engineer

could see a long way

dad loved it but he really wanted to

show orbee and katie

the old steam engine the conductor

pointed to the very

next train the family thanked the

conductor for a great trip

and jumped down orbee and dad raced

around to the engine and climbed

up it wasn't quite as big but

it was high mom and katie hurried behind

them

it wasn't a whole lot of room in the

engine dad pointed out that the trains

nowadays run on power but

in the old days they ran on manpower

katie and orbee looked at each other

they weren't sure what that meant

dad rolled up his sleeves he told him it

was very hot in the engine room

he picked up a shovel and opened a

little door and he told him

a man had to stoke the fire that created

the steam

the steam made the engine go and made

the wheels turn which made

the train move forward

he pretended to shovel the coal in

through the little door

somebody else had to drive the train he

plunked katie into the chair

it was high up and there was a long rope

with a handle on it

it was attached to the whistle that told

people the train was coming

katie pretended to blow the whistle as

orbee pretended to

stoke the fires

mom and dad pretended they could feel

the train moving

dad fell off to one side and asked katie

to watch how she took the corners

and that made everybody laugh

they looked at all kinds of trains that

day katie

ended up having a terrific time

they even ate lunch in a restaurant that

was an old train car

and a waiter dressed like the conductor

served them

at the end of the day the whole family

agreed that they'd like to visit the

train museum again

and i just know if you get a chance to

visit a train museum

you'll have a great time too just like

katie and orbee

did you know

did you know water conservation is very

important

that means taking care of our water

supply by not polluting our lakes

rivers and streams and not wasting water

one way to conserve water is to turn off

the tap when you're finished with it

i said turn off the tap when you're

finished

[Music]

it had been an

afternoon of hunting katie found out

that even if you don't play with baby

toys anymore

there sure are a lot around orbee

learned the stacking three rings in the

pool

wasn't that exciting anymore and they

both discovered that some things are

fine for children

but are too small for babies

katie and orbee packed up an entire bag

of toys for megan

they were going over to help mom babysit

jenny and greg were going out to a big

party

and the sitter they'd planned to use had

the flu and was unable to help jenny out

mom thought katie and orbee would enjoy

babysitting and i have to tell you

they were we're very excited

katie dug out her favorite baby book and

obi brought some games in case megan was

old enough to play with them now

when they rang the doorbell it seemed

like hours before jenny opened it up and

invited them in

the friends and mom sat in the living

room while they waited for megan

there were all kinds of baby things

around there was a

bottle sitting on the coffee table nice

and warm and ready for the baby

there was a brightly colored rattle and

a stuffed frog hug

that looked really silly orbee made one

of his faces and tried to look just like

katie laughed

it wasn't long before greg brought megan

down

orbee could hear her giggling all the

way down the stairs

her dad was making some funny noises and

funny faces at her

greg and jenny kissed megan goodbye and

went out the door

[Music]

katie was almost bursting with

excitement she so

badly wanted to hold megan orbee went

straight for his game

he wanted to teach megan how to play

them

mom asked katie to sit way back on the

couch and she put pillows on either side

of katie

then knelt on the floor in front of her

she placed megan in katie's arms katie

giggled and megan giggled too

megan thought it was fun to sit with

katie

orbee dangled a little fat fish on the

string

whenever you touched the fish it made a

tinkling sound

orbeez showed megan how to do it and

when the fish tinkled

megan kicked her feet and waved her hand

mom told orbee that megan wanted to play

too

she asked him to move it a bit closer

and when he did

megan swung her hand at it and she

shrieked with the light as the fish

tinkle

and then she kicked and waved her hands

again orbee had taught her a little game

and megan loved it

katie wanted to read the book she'd

brought and mom took megan out of her

arm so she could fetch it

mom sat back on the couch and asked

orbee

if he'd like to give megan her bottle

while katie read the book

orbee went to hand it to the baby but

megan was looking at the book

katie was opening up her feet started

kicking again and katie laughed

she was pretty sure megan was going to

like the book too

the book was a special book that you

could touch and feel

katie told megan the story

megan reached out to pat a little cat on

the next page

and she pulled a loop the loop made a

happy face come out and katie and megan

giggled together

katie tried to turn it to the next page

but megan wanted to go back

megan liked happy faces and mom giggled

because when

katie was a little baby she also had

like the happy face

best mom said both she and katie were

terribly clever

to find a little loop and pull it

it's not always easy for a little baby

to get their hands to go where they want

them to go

orbee could tell that because megan

would look at the loop and then wave her

hand around a bit

until she got her hand to go to the

right place or be verbal to megan that

she was doing a good job when orbeez

spoke megan turned to the sound of his

verbal

it shrieked with joy and kicked her feet

mom thought megan must love the color

pink but i think it was the sound of the

burbling that megan liked first

orbee was bringing the bottle up again

when megan waved her tiny hand in front

of her face

and grabbed a hold of his long nose mom

told orbee to be careful and not let

megan hurt him

[Music]

megan was still trying to learn how to

use her muscles and she might pinch too

hard

but strangely enough megan was very

gentle

and then an amazing thing happened and

everybody was shocked

[Music]

megan burbled right back at orbee

no one could believe it or be burbled a

little differently to be sure but i have

to tell you

megan made the very same sound

[Music]

katie jumped up and clapped her hands

for megan orbee chuckled

being careful not to scare her katie and

orbee couldn't wait to tell

jenny and greg that megan actually

talked

megan let go of orbee's nose and gave it

a gentle smack

orbee pretended to fall over

megan shrieked with laughter again mom

was pretty sure that megan was going to

love being silly and

chuckled that she was starting very

early

well now megan was ready for her bottle

and she did try to help orbee halt

meanwhile

katie laid ba*ls and noisemakers and

rings and all kinds of

old baby things on the coffee table

megan tried to suck and look at the same

time but

it didn't work very well

mom took the bottle from orbee and he

went to help katie

just as they were finished mom whispered

to them that

meghan had fallen asleep

she tiptoed up the stairs and softly

placed her in her crib

she covered her as the two friends

watched

downstairs again katie and orbee were

disappointed that megan was asleep

mom said she'd let katie and orbee stay

up until megan woke up again

they could play with her some more and

this was a great idea except for one

thing

katie and orbee waited and waited but

megan just kept sleeping

and do you know when megan finally woke

up in the night

katie and orbee were sound asleep on the

couch

they were dreaming of all the fun things

that they could do with macon

and i'd better tell you that they did

all of them

on another day and i hope you'll play

games

and teach things to some of the little

babies you know

if you do you will be an amazing teacher

just like katie and orbee
