06x02 - The Fairground / Gray Day / Hearts!

[Music]

it had been a day of planning

katie learned that if you go to a big

place and you're a child

it's best to bring something with your

name address and phone number on it

or be found out that you need to bring a

raincoat

in the car in case of the weather

changes

and they both discovered that it was

really hard to sleep the night before

an adventure

the family was going to the local fair

and i have to tell you

there was great excitement in the air

for katie and orbee the car ride was

full of

giggles and anticipation

at the fairground it was hot and sunny

and there were children

everywhere katie and orbee could barely

take it all in there were so many

wonderful things to see and do

[Music]

just then they heard gales of laughter

tumbling out of the funhouse

kitty grabbed orbee's arm and in the

pink flash they were off

mom and dad hurried behind them at the

fun house the ticketman asked to see

their admission wristbands

they both felt pretty important showing

them inside the first thing they saw was

a wall of

funny-shaped mirrors when you stood in

front of them

they made you look warped and lumpy and

all kinds of strange ways

[Music]

orbee did a handstand in front of one

and he looked like

an upside down bullfrog with a huge

belly

and katie stood at another and her head

looked longer than the rest of her body

when orbee moved in his eyes became

three feet tall

there were a lot of tees and chuckles

from the friends

and then they came to a room with a

moving floor

when katie stepped on it wobbled one way

and another she really had to

sway back and forth to keep from falling

behind her orbee tooted and honked

it was a very wild and wobbly walk

in the next room they had to find their

way through a maze

kitty and orbee bumped into each other

several times it was hard to find the

way out

but finally they did on the other side

of the maze was the giant tumbling

barrel

katie was afraid to walk through because

it just kept turning

orbee thought it looked like fun and

went first

he stepped in and it started to roll him

up on the side

and he turned and he ran down he was

like a hamster on a treadmill

katie laughed and then he stuck himself

to the side of the barrel

and went up and around and around again

[Music]

the funhouse man helped a very dizzy

orbee get up the other side

katie ran through and managed to do it

without rolling

when dad went through he spread his arms

and his legs apart and

held onto the walls of the barrel when

it went around

he stayed in that position and looked

like he was doing a cartwheel

katie and orbeez squeal clapped orbee

couldn't wait until he was tall enough

to do that

mom came through the same way katie did

quickly

and laughing all the way

now back out on the fairground katie and

orbee climbed aboard the teacup ride

mom and dad were too big to go so they

just watched

when the teacups started to move they

spun slowly at first

and went around and around but as they

got faster

katie began to slide over to orbee and

soon they were

squished together orbee

made some funny faces that looked like

he was being squished to a pancake

and katie couldn't stop laughing and

next katie spotted a spaceship ride

that she thought orbee might like the

ride operator told them to hold on tight

when he buckled them in

katy and orbee wiggled with delight well

spaceship lurched forward up

up up went round then it sort of

floated and came down again katie and

obi felt like they were flying through

space there were

stars hanging all around the ride

it was fabulous fun

when they got off dad suggested they try

something other than a ride

two in a row was enough for now as dad

pointed to an exhibit tent

orbee spied the game's area and headed

that way

mom explained that the games were hard

to win

katie wanted to try too though and so

dad sighed he said

they would play three games after that

win or lose

they would stop no one was to feel bad

if they didn't win

katie and orbee nodded excitedly

well at the first two games they had no

luck at all

games were difficult the third one was a

ball toss

as they walked up to it katie saw a

little

pink polka dotted poodle prize

she just loved it it reminded her of

orbeez

orbee on the other hand pointed to a

zany striped hat prize he liked

katie was first she had three ba*ls and

she aimed the first one

tried hard to get it in the basket she

really wanted to win the poodle the ball

didn't even go near the basket

the second one bounced off the edge of

the basket

the last ball hit the back wall and

rolled away and katie looked at the

polka dotted poodle and she was very

disappointed

orbee stepped up to take his turn he

asked mom to

hold him upside down but you can imagine

how surprised the game man was

he was even more surprised when the ball

went

in katie clapped madly

a few people stopped to watch orbee take

his second throw

and they all cheered when that ball went

in

and for the third toss dad pretended to

do

a drum roll on the counter and the ball

went in katie jumped up and

down and even the game man was smiling

as he rang a bell to

announce a winner katie was very proud

orbee thought for a moment and then he

chose

the pink poodle well you can imagine

katie's delight when she turned around

there was orbee holding out the pink

poodle for her

and katie smiled with glee but then she

stopped

she told orbee it was his win

and he needed to choose the prize orbee

burble that he already had

katie reminded him of the hat orbee told

her

winning the game and giving her the

poodle

made him much happier than any old hat

maybe he held the poodle to his tummy

and added that

anyway they matched

that day at the fair was full of more

rides and fun for katie and orbee

and it ended up being a very special day

for them that they never forgot

and i'm sure if you go to the fair

you'll find that the biggest prize that

you can

win is the fun that you have with your

friend

just like katie and orbee

[Music]

did you know that people called

astronomers

look up in the sky at night and see

pictures in the stars

the early astronomers gave these

pictures names

like orion the hunter

the big dipper or leo the lion

maybe one night you'll see these

pictures in the stars

[Music]

it had been another gloomy gray day

katie found out that when you do a

puzzle seven times in a row

it gets a little boring orbee learned

that building a couch fort was fun for

one day but not for three

and they both discovered that when

you've been in the house for that many

days the house feels smaller and smaller

even the inside of the house seemed gray

had been rainy and cloudy for so long

katie and orbee had played everything

that they could think of

maybe making and drinking a homemade

banana milkshake would be fun

in the kitchen orbee opened the fridge

door to pull out the milk

as he lifted it up to the counter katie

reached for a banana from the fruit bowl

she bumped into orbeez arm and the milk

spilled on the floor

orbee was upset with katie for bumping

her katie was upset with orbee for

saying it was her fault when she was

trying to help

dad who was trying to do some work got a

little annoyed at all the noise

and mom came up from the basement to see

what was wrong when everyone explained

the problem

mom sighed she gave katie and orbee some

paper towels

and put her arms around dad they might

as well get used to feeling a bit grumpy

she pointed out

gray day weather often makes people feel

grouchy

and this was their third gray day

mom tickled that and told him they

should all give up trying to be cheery

and get right into the gloomy gray day

the floor was clean and the milk cake

forgotten as katie and orbee closed her

bedroom door

katie beamed a great big smile she

thought of

something fun a gray day celebration

everything they do should be grey or

have gray in it

they could make a really silly day

happen

orbee just loved the idea first they

made a note for the front door

it announced in pictures of course to

all visitors

that they were having a gray day

orbee found a pair of two big tights

which he had to keep pulling up

and a gray fedora and katie found a long

grey dress

with bright colored buttons on it

they took all the great towels and

sheets and covered the furniture in the

living room with them

it certainly was starting to look grey

they made gray construction paper

placemats for the dinner table

katie asked mom if she could paint the

candles

mama looked up she saw the two grey

characters and

asked why they would want to do that

katie explained with orbeez help

their gray day plan mom laughed that was

a splendid

idea she was terrifically impressed

dad came in to see what was so funny on

such a gloomy day and they all told him

immediately mom and dad wanted to join

in and hurried off to get changed for

the gray day katie and orbee painted the

candles

and made a painting of raindrops for the

fridge

just as they were scratching their heads

thinking of another great thing to do

the doorbell rang it was yi ping

under a beautiful chinese umbrella well

katie grabbed me ping and pulled her in

goodbye to her mom outside of the

sidewalk

the friends told ye ping about the day

and yi ping

wanted to play too and she pulled off

her rain gear

they told her they were creating grey

things for a grey day

yi ping loved these friends of hers they

were so much fun

and she looked at bright pink orbee

stuffed into grey things and

asked if a play about gray would be fun

well with that footsteps clattered up

the stairs they

all loved the idea so much there were

rumblings and delight of squeals coming

from katie's room

soon soon they were ready they called

out for mom and dad to

sit in the living room for the play mom

and dad now

dressed in gray chocolate when they saw

all the gray towels

sheets and placements and the three

friends

barely realized mom and dad were even

there when they came down

they were so gray they fit right in with

the room everybody

giggled and orbee was now wearing

an old turtleneck of dares that was

cinched at the waist with the belt

a grey balaclava was pulled down over

his head

he looked terribly funny peeking out of

it

he yanked up his tights

orbee played the color gray he burbled

that

nobody really liked him when he filled

the sky or the day

he wanted people to like him or be

walked like a

popping tottering penguin which was

silly to watch

katie was dressed as the color orange

and yee

ping was the color green and they told

him that if he wanted people to like him

he'd have to cheer up or be pretended to

he couldn't cheer up because he was gray

nobody liked him green said if he smiled

more people would like him he smiled but

because of the balaclava

no one could see oren said that he would

have to try harder

or be smiled wider but still nothing

showed

orange and green both shouted a huge

smile

pulled up his balaclava to his nose and

showed a

great big smile it was a ridiculous

smile

and orbee did look silly already so

mom and dad broken fits and pickles in

the bathroom

orange and green laughed too orbee just

kept on making funny smiles

and then suddenly he pulled off the

balaclava and

laughter made him so happy he was

starting to brighten up

then he danced a little happy dance that

made his tights fall down

orange and green were weeping laugh

tears as orbee did a handstand

and his shirt slid down and belt and all

over his head

when he jumped up his arms and head were

lost in the shirt

orange and cream tugged to pull it all

off

and orbeez looked at the audience with a

huge smile

and tooted that it was strange but he

didn't

feel gray anymore

mom and dad stood up and cheered and the

three actors

bowed the gray day play was a

wonderful success that night

mom made the greatest mushroom soup with

crackers

dad put on some low sad sort of

made you think of gray music and at

supper mom told katie and orbee that

with all of their hard work every gray

day

in the future would be wonderful

because they would never forget this one

and she was right and i hope if you have

a gloomy miserable day

you'll get right into it too and make it

the

best gray day ever i just know

yours will be marvelous too if you give

it a try

did you know you can get your vegetables

out of your very own backyard

potatoes carrots lettuce and tomatoes

can all be grown at home in your

vegetable garden

you'll need to water them and care for

them but when they're ready to be picked

you'll have a feast yum yum

it was a day

loaded with love katie learned that

making something special for someone

else

really felt good inside orbee found out

that a card that says

i love you makes people smile and they

both discover that making hearts out of

paper

is easier when you fold the paper in

half

it was valentine's day and sensational

right from the start dad made

heart-shaped pancakes for breakfast

on their placemats katie and orbee found

heart-shaped boxes of candy and some red

flowers

and mom and dad found decorated cards

from katie and orbee

everyone smooched their thank yous

chance wore a red ribbon and walked

proudly through the kitchen to show it

off

valentine's day was valentine card

delivery day

after breakfast katie and orbee put on

their mailman hats and stuck big paper

hearts

in the hat band and bundled up for the

wintry day

went off to ring doorbells of course the

first doorbell they rang was yi pings

she opened the door with a big smile

katie and orbee each handed her a car

she gave them both a card too then she

threw on her snowsuit to join them on

their deliveries

after all she had to give out her cards

too

next they went to mrs peretz she was

delighted to find her valentine

cards brought directly to her house and

she presented each friend with a

beautiful heart-shaped cookie

she had baked herself munching they

stomped through the snow to andies in a

frosty cloud of

[Music]

and at the door andy stood waiting for

them

he loved yi ping katy and orbeez cards

and placed them on the whole table

katie and orbee and loved the ones he

gave them

soon four friends trudged through the

snow to tom's house

tom pretended no one lived there by that

name

and after bits of giggles they finally

got to give him their cards

miguel's house was next and he wanted to

join the delivery team too

[Music]

and soon a stream of friends trailed

down the sidewalk

shopping delivering and moving on

when they all got back to katie's

everybody was happy mom filled

mugs with hot chocolate and sent them

upstairs to play when they were done

just as they charged past the door the

doorbell rang

orbee wondered who they'd forgotten he

opened the door

but it wasn't a young friend it was the

real mailman

he gave the mail to orbee but held one

envelope back

then he told orbee that one was for him

the letter had a heart on the corner of

it the mailman winked and told him

somebody loved him orbee burbled

was there one for katie the mailman

checked his back

there was nothing and orbee was very

surprised

orbee turned to his friends who were

really anxious to see who had sent the

letter

orbee looked at katie who strangely

enough smiled broadly

orbee ripped open the envelope as mom

and dad came into the hallway he pulled

out a magnificent

handmade card one big red heart sprang

out at him

when he opened it up to see who it was

from there was no name at all

only a squiggly line in the dot

orbee didn't understand he showed it to

mom

it seemed like a really weird way to

write your name

mom giggle and told orbee it was from a

secret admirer

that this was a question mark the person

who sent it

wanted him to know that he was loved but

wanted him to guess who they were

how on earth would he ever be able to do

that

dad told him that he'd have to figure it

out

or be scammed to see a friend's faces

each looked as curious as he was and

orbee was perplexed orbee looked at the

squiggle again

and spun around he zipped up the stairs

and the second he was back with

two pads of paper and two pencils and

his friends noticed

he had his detective handle orbited that

he

detective orbee was going to solve the

mystery he wanted

each friend to draw a question mark on

the pad

he gave katie one pad and a pencil

and he took the other he and katie held

the pads as everyone else drew

squiggly lines with dots now i have to

tell you

there's a great deal of giggling and a

whole lot of trying but

most of the friends had never drawn a

question mark before and

so not one looked like the one on the

card

barbie scratched his head katie shook

her there was no match

as the friends went upstairs to build

the biggest heart-shaped block fort ever

orbee slept on his jacket and with mom

and toe

he went out to see mrs perette and at

the door

he asked her to draw the squiggle and

she did

but it wasn't the same or be knocked on

tom's door

he drew one too but it wasn't the same

either

he went across the street and tried

everywhere he knew

who would leave katie out he thought and

thought about that but no one came to

mind

soon it was dinner time and orbee

was completely at a loss he had no luck

nobody knew who sent the card and nobody

made a question mark

like the one inside orbee nervled into

his dinner that

he really didn't care anyway whoever

sent it was a little rude

and i have to tell you that that

surprised katie but orbee continued

they should have sent one to his best

friend in the whole world

leaving her out was mean katie leaned

across the table

and smiled her biggest broadest smile

orbee was just about to go on when he

noticed something

a little odd about it odd because it

wasn't just a happy smile

it was a look at me smile and

all of a sudden orbee left out of his

chair he spun

and climbed right up the wall across the

ceiling over the table and

down the other side he was ecstatic

he had finally figured it out

orbee tooted that it was katy katy was

his secret admirer

he grabbed her up in the biggest hug and

swung her around the room as she

squealed

in delight and when he put her down

she kissed his pink cheek and she told

him the only thing that wasn't a secret

was that she loved him very much

and you know that's true

everybody knew katie loved orbee

and of course he loved her too

maybe next valentine's day you can send

a love letter to somebody special in

your life

if you do i just happen to know

they will love it
