hi everyone I wanted to use a different

way to say hello to you today instead of

saying it out loud I use Pappy's pencil

to write the word

h-e-l-l-o what does that spell right it

spells hello I know a different way to

say hello to you too Pappy I can wave my

bristles hey hello waiting that's very

nice here we go Lily

there are lots of ways to speak without

using your voices

did you see that grand cap you wait that

has to say hello hey Sonny don't you

know what time it is

what in pappyland are you doing now drew

it I'm tipping my hat to the girls and

boys it's another way to say hello I'm

tipping my head to Tiana and miles and

to Marissa and Stacy and Laura and of

course I'm tipping my hat to you too if

you don't have a hat to tip you can use

your hand and pretend it's a hat watch

me tip my hand to say hello

that's why I see lots of your hands

tipping that reminds me I don't say it I

already know what you have in mind you

probably have a riddle to ask us today

that's exactly what I have in mind I

didn't say a word it's written all over

your face Elmer let's hear your riddle

what has two hands and a face and runs

both all day and all night hmm lots of

Pappy's friends have two hands in her

face but nobody I know when's all day

and night they would be too tired to do

that it's a clock a clock has to and a

face and it runs all day long too bad my

favorite clock was kicked out of the

library today Oh Elmer I'm sorry to hear

that and what was your clock doing it

was talking too much

hey buddy bear you don't have to get all

gussied up just for a little old Pappy

oh well no offense happy but I'm not

getting gussied up for you then who are

you getting gussied up for before my

friend Elizabeth she's visiting me today

oh I remember you talking about

Elizabeth as she's the pen pal you head

right yep we've been writing to each

other since last summer and we've become

great friends through our letters how do

you feel about meeting Elizabeth in

person I feel like I swallowed a dozen

honey bees that are all buzzing around

in my stomach why is that Elizabeth's

ears can't hear Pappy so I won't be able

to talk to her she won't hear a single

word I say I understand that her ears

won't be able to hear your words but

there are other ways to speak to our

friends there are like what Pappy like

drawing for instance that when I use my

pencil I'm communicating or talking

through my picture and when I dance I'm

talking by the way I move and I can talk

with my face to watch how do I feel

you look awfully tired Pappy

maybe it's time for my nap wake up buddy

I'm not really tired I'm just showing

you how I can talk without using words

and look at me now what's the matter

path is there something scary in the

hamlet let's get out of here fast

there's nothing to fear buddy I was

showing you how you don't need to use

your voice to tell someone how you feel

do you see what I mean I do I knew you

look tired and I knew you look scared

and you never made a sound there's

another way you and Elizabeth can talk

to each other it's called sign language

what's that sign language is a way to

talk with your hands and you don't need

to say words out loud instead of using

your voice to speak the words you use

your hands to draw a picture of what you

want to say it's called signing would

see Pappy I said yes without making any

sounds you sure did buddy and I knew

what you meant I

see lots of you have your paper and your

markers pencils and crayons in front of

you if you don't have yours yet run and

get them now here we go

all righty we're going to draw a special

little boy

and Pepe likes to start off by drawing

the face first so starting right here

let's draw a half circle and a half

circle is a circle that's not complete

it's almost

complete but we're going to bring this

line around and we'll stop right there

good all righty now

let's show the front of his hair right

here and we're going to connect this

line this curve line we're gonna connect

it right here okay so let's go

good

alrighty let's draw one ear

there and we'll draw his other ear

now let's draw the top of his hair and

that's just another hat circle and I'm

gonna get a good feel when I say I when

Pepe says he's gonna get a good feel

that means he's gonna kind of practice

before he puts the point of his marker

tran or pencil down he's just gonna

really get a good feel I feel pretty

good now I'm gonna bring it around good

alrighty let's put some eyes on our

little boy okay so let's put one that

right there

over here we'll put another bat

even when you're not talking because

you're busy working I know that you're

trying your best when we visit the hall

frames later on I'll show you some of

the great pictures my friends at home

have sent me you may even see yours

alrighty let's put a nose on our little

boy and that's a curb line like that

no let's put a happy smile on his face

and when peppy draws a happy smile it

looks like a you and it's pointed upward

because I'm happy see now if I'm said

the line would go down it be the

opposite you draw a curve downward but

because our little boys happy we're

going to draw the curve line upward

there he is smiling good all right

starting right below his chin let's just

draw curve line like so

and starting right here let's show his

sleeve and bring it there and stop let's

do the same thing here a curve line and

connect it right there now will draw the

bottom of his t-shirt will bring a wound

down and stop

and let's connect it I love connecting

lines good

alrighty now we'll draw his pants and

we'll bring this line down like that and

we'll do the same thing on the other

side and bring it down good now right

here we're going to draw a straight line

and

that will show that he has two legs

now let's connect

these two lines and we're going to do

the same right here so let's do that now

let's draw his arm one of his arms is

behind his back like this so you won't

see his his hands or anything so let's

start right here then just put a curve

line like so good

alrighty I think we're going to draw his

shoes

and we'll start right here at this point

and

bring that line around and starting

right here let's bring another curve

line

and

bring it around

good

alrighty I

think I'm gonna put some eyebrows on our

little boy okay

and that's another curve line right

above that dot right here above this dot

happy put a curve line let's do the same

on the other side

alright let's see we have to draw his

other arm don't we

so starting right here

well ring is

open this line upward just like so and

bring another line upward and stop

alrighty

now it's

all the little finger and it's kind of

pointing upward like that that's his

little finger some some of you like to

call that your little pinky

alrighty now let's draw a curve line but

bring it down like that it's a little

bit lower than that other little finger

that we draw on it looking to draw kind

of like an oval right there and

another one and that shows that two of

the fingers are down

there we go now we're going to draw the

index finger which is your finger right

next to your thumb just like that very

good now let's draw a curve line there

and we'll bring along this is it this is

the little boy's thumb and we'll bring

it around and we're gonna stop

do you notice how I've gone the fingers

on the boy's hand in a special way he's

using sign language just like bunnies

going to learn

alrighty now starting right here I'm

just gonna draw

some curved lines just like that and a

few or just a couple lines show movement

those are called movement lines

well that completes our drawing of a

little boy

Pappy hey picture can you help buddy

understand what the boy is signing

bet I know what that sign is it means I

love you that's right buddy bear

can you sign I love you maybe I could

use sign language to talk to Elizabeth

but I don't know enough sign language

yet I wish more than anything in

pappyland that I knew how to sign don't

worry buddy bear I can teach you some

signs and I think Elizabeth will to do

you think so Pepe yes

elizabeth is your friend I'm sure she'll

help you learn to sign and here she is

always have fun she laughs when I'm

doesn't hear me the way that you do how

she talk to me too

you can use just your imagination that

color if you want to or you can use your

imagination along with your trans

markers or colored pencils your

imagination is the most important part

a shirt

great i'm glad that Elizabeth came to

visit buddy bear today they've been pen

pals for a long time do you have a pen

pal is there someone you'll write

letters to and they write letters back

writing letters is a great way to talk

to a friend oh

let's continue now I'm going to choose

blue forest pants

lots of our Fred's right to us copy and

they send us their pictures too that's

right pinky I love getting mail for my

friends at home

you can send your letters to the address

shown at the end of the program be sure

to include your name and address i need

of the back or in front of your picture

they go very nice together these two

colors purple and blue

mmm no i think i'm going to put

red shoes

or they could be sneaks

and again you can use any color that you

choose

because Pappy likes it when you use your

own ideas and your own colors now I'm

going to color the rest of the little

boy

being Joy's calling with your boys and

I'm so proud of you after you're

finished be sure to show your picture to

sometimes Pappy breaks a cran but you

can use any part of the krann to color

his arm and i think i'm going to put

rosy cheeks on our and our drawing okay

i'm going to color in his cheeks red

just to make it look like he's blushing

a little bit

whoops now I'm going to just indicate

some shadow on the bottom where he's

standing right below his feet

originality and originality means that

you're using your own ideas the best

ideas are the ones you think of yourself

Pappy I know a place where you can learn

more about sign language where's that at

the public library they have yet the

books that teach sign language

riffic place Joe is the Hall of frames

in the Hall of frames I bet some of my

cousins help paint these pictures

aren't the pictures grand the Hall of

frames is filled with pictures sent from

our friends who live all over the

country and they all have originality

that means they all have special ideas

of their own you can send in your

picture and maybe you'll see it hanging
