our class has been selected to represent

the eighth grade in the school's annual

history week play competition well

sharina's on each grade a class is gonna

do a play about an historical event and

then the best play will be presented in

front of the entire school in the

auditorium that's up to over volunteers

to be the producer I volunteer a job

Jamie Zeus has to write the play

cast it to get all the costumes build a

set no problem I got a great production

team to do all that work for me Reggie

well just to be fair does anyone else

would a volunteer to be the producer

okay then

congratulations Jamie thinking your Big

Brother's out producer like big deal

Aion I'm home and how was your day today

lovely lady why nothing why do you ask

you sound like you swallowed Walter

Cronkite what was the day like all days

filled with those events that alter and

illuminates our times and I was there

Joanie I was sitting at my desk today

when my phone rang I was sitting at my

desk today when my phone rang and this

voice invited me to be a guest on a

popular talk show

well I recognized the voice right away

Johnny Oh Phil

Ralph Ralph Brogan honey the host of VIP

the radio show where people who want to

know talk to people in the know I'm

gonna be talking about the exciting

world of cybernetics about that well

well well what Sucher my we're on the

show antennas on radio you can wear your

birthday suit

oh yeah well I still want to look nice

why don't you help me pick something out

okay okay hello children and welcome to

the kitchen Jamie we better come up with

a great idea for the play thanks great

never won this competition yeah Viki you

know everything about history what's the

famous event we can either play about

how about Betsy Ross on the first

American flag yeah we need something

with pizzazz okay then make it Diana

Ross how about the first Thanksgiving

there's gotta be something more exciting

than a bunch of guys sitting around in

funny hats stuffing a dead turkey

stuffing a live turkey

and then at the age of 14 Ralph's my

grandfather bought me an erector set and

the rest is history

my story on your radio interview oh yeah

maybe you're right but I'm a little

nervous about tomorrow I mean I don't

want to sound like a dummy but why don't

you help me practice

well sure well why don't we pretend this

is the radio station and you can pretend

to be Ralph Grogan and I'll pretend to

be Ted Lawson well it's nice to have you

here Thank You Ralph about the work did

you do what United robotronic well Ralph

well I'm sure that you've heard the

phrase mr. Lawson behind every great man

is a great woman

yes which tell us a little something

about the great woman in your life well

to be honest Ralph I'm a self-made man I

did it all myself

yes well man I could suggest you mr.

Lawson of course I remember when we

talked about having another child do

that yourself

[Applause]

what did you guys been doing just

hanging around aren't you working on

your play we've been doing that too well

it better be spectacular cuz I heard the

9th grades doing the Boston Tea Party

with real tea you've got that beat by a

mile

well you're still gonna finish second in

the competition guys cuz we seventh

graders are gonna win with our play yeah

what are gonna do

Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo with real

water I'm not bad Harriet but hardly a

winner what makes you think so he's a

producer he doesn't have to think period

I can't tell you what it is but our idea

it's so super so colossal so stupendous

if you know what it was you fainted away

I'd be happy to if you revived me with

that mouth-to-mouth method

so Jamie what's this class the

stupendous thing you're talking about or

are you just describing your mouth

Harriette that we didn't have an idea

she'd think we're stupid she'd be right

we better come up with something fast

but the class is gonna k*ll this yeah

it's got to make the Battle of Waterloo

look like a picnic we need more than a

battle we need a whole w*r yeah well do

World w*r two it was in all the papers

small wonder we'll return after these

how'd you like it folks oh well like

finding out that Arnold Schwarzenegger

is really pee-wee Herman yeah well

that's the beauty of radio leaves

everything to the imagination

okay mr. Lawson over here okay stand

back everyone

this isn't going to be pretty so uh what

do I have to do Ralph oh no no need to

be nervous tangent take a moment to

relax yeah we won't be on the air until

that red light goes on oh good good

I've heard that by the year 2000 there

will be robots in practically every home

is that true well

well let me put it this way Ted there'll

be a lot of robots by the year 2000

dad a lot of trouble cuz we're gonna win

that play competition we're doing World

w*r two with the original test

spectacular play ever put on in school

history

a hundred Chapa knees dive bombers

attacking Pearl Harbor and 50,000

American troops storming the beach at

Normandy how are you gonna do all that

in your classroom you got to be out of

your lines Harriette it's people like

you who are k*lling the theater

I hate to admit it but Harry is right

our imagination was bigger than our

brains imagination the man said that's

the beauty of radio it leaves everything

to the imagination radio that's how we

can do World w*r two in class with a

thousand Japanese dive bombers if we

want Vickie your genius

hey when you got it you got it as you

know class the 7th to 9th grades have

already presented their plays to our two

judges that mr. Fishman and mrs. wolf we

stand uh during the 1930s and 40s most

Americans learned about the w*r over the

radio and with this in mind the 8th

grade is proud to present their playing

the competition a unique radio

dramatization of World w*r two

in 1939 world w*r ii began when the

dreaded german army marched into Poland

back home in the USA President Franklin

Delano Roosevelt addressed an anxious

nation my fellow Americans

America will not into the w*r for two

years later on December 7 1941 the

Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor

[Music]

in fact in Washington DC President

Roosevelt once again addressed an

anxious nation my fellow Americans I

changed my mind

we will enter the w*r American soldiers

marched off to w*r as American forces

fought their way across the Pacific the

Japanese tried to undermine morale with

the propaganda broadcasts of Tokyo Rose

get lost in Europe battle raged on we

take you now to the European front where

the Allies are engaged in hand-to-hand

combat with the enemy

meanwhile back home in the USA people

were reacting to news from the battle

zone

[Music]

and now the w*r was nearing an end in

North Africa German troops were defeated

by divisions of American canes

said German troops were defeated by

divisions of American tanks take my word

for it the American tanks won the 1945

the Allies marched into Berlin with

flags flying in a band playing of

victory March Lawrence well

and so the gi's came back to the states

by sea and by air where they greeted

their loved ones who they hadn't seen in

years

hey Lucy I'm home

left behind breeded them with hugs and

kisses I guess that's how they got the

term baby boom

[Applause]

Thank You kids that was a very

interesting interpretation of World w*r

two we went in anyway

judges this is Lawson that was a very

clever idea both entertaining and

imaginative it's our opinion that the

winner of this year's play competition

is your eighth grade well Debbie now

that I've made you stars how'd you like

to go out with me tonight

I'd rather shop at Kmart what was that

for you bombed
