Who could suppose what together we'll

find? With every pair of shoes that we

try, we'll have a new adventure, you

will take mess,

but come for a walk. I lead the way to

places never seen

before.

[Music]

All dusted, Grandpa. And all swept now,

Franny. All we need is a clean

pillowcase on that pillow and we'll be

all finished tidying up the shop. Okie

dokie, Grandpa.

Fuddle dutle with pickles on top. I wish

I had more hands. Wa! Oops.

[Laughter]

A customer.

[Music]

Hello and welcome to Van Tootsies. What

can we do for you today? I'm going on an

expedition to the South Pole, but I'm

worried that the soles of my boots will

slip on the ice. With some extra rubber

here and there, your boots will stop

slipping and start gripping. Franny,

could you please take these to the fix

it box? Okie dokie, Grandpa. Into the

fix it box they go.

Where are my feet? Take me today.

[Music]

Woo! Sweet.

Wa!

Freezy! Fantastic.

Oo, it sure is cold. Good thing I'm

wearing this warm jacket. H I wonder

where I am. My baby, my buddy, stay

under my wing cuz I'm your proud papa.

You make my heart sing.

[Music]

I think somebody here is a very happy

daddy. That's me. I'm Puit the penguin.

Pleased to meet you, Puit. My name is

Franny and this is my egg. Say hello,

son or daughter. We won't know until he

or she pops out of this egg.

Is this the Arctic? Grandpa and I went

to the zoo once and we saw how polar

bears live near the North Pole up in the

Arctic. No, Franny. This is Antarctica

where the South Pole is. You're at the

opposite end of the world. No polar

bears here. Just emperor penguins like

me and my little egg.

Whoop! Careful there. wouldn't want you

to get cold, kiddo. It is awfully

chilly. How do you keep your egg warm? I

I think I'm supposed to know. But see,

I've never been a papa before. This is

my very first egg. That's why I'm

heading to our penguin colony. The other

papa penguins are going to be there. I'm

sure I can learn all about caring for my

egg from them. Do you want to come

along? That would be fantabulous.

Screw it. If you're the egg's papa,

where's its mama? She's walking to the

ocean to find food while I watch over

this little guy. By the time she gets

back, our egg will be hatched, and then

it'll be my turn to find something to

eat. But penguins have wings. Why don't

you fly there instead of walking? Oh, my

wings aren't for flying. They're more

like flippers for swimming.

It's getting even colder. It's a good

thing my feathers are extra warm and

close together to keep the wind away.

Antarctica is the coldest, driest,

windiest place on Earth, so keeping my

egg cozy is a big challenge. Thank you,

Puit. I feel warmer already. Let's go,

go, go.

[Music]

Wa wa. You're not even wearing boots and

you don't slip. Take little steps like

this, Fanny.

And tuck your arms in tight to your

sides to keep the wind away. Waddle,

waddle, waddle.

Waddling works. We penguins have lots of

warming tricks. In Antarctica, it's

chilly all year long. I can tuck my toes

up under my warm tummy.

And whenever I can, I eat lots and lots

so I can put on fat. Fat helps keep me

warm. See,

[Music]

we're here, Franny. The Emperor Penguin

Nesting Grounds.

[Music]

Welcome to the colony, kiddo. This is

where you're going to grow up. I don't

see any nests to put your egg in. Are

they hidden? I think the ground is much

too icy and cold for a nest. I'm pretty

sure I have to keep my egg off the

ground so it can stay warm. The trouble

is my wings are getting awfully tired. I

think Junior's putting on a little

weight.

What a strong wind. It sure the egg.

Oh no. Whoa.

Catch it.

[Music]

Don't worry, kiddo. Papa's got you.

Wow, that was a close call. We

definitely need to find a safer and

warmer way to protect your egg. I agree,

but how? H

We need something cozy.

I know. We can cover it with my mitten.

[Music]

It's a perfect fit. That's much Better,

isn't it, little egg? But Franny, now

your hand is going to get cold. Can you

both bit inside the mitten?

[Music]

Pifful. This isn't working. Here,

Freddy. You need to wear your mitten.

What can we wrap around the egg that

will keep it warm without making

something else cold?

Oh,

are you thinking what I'm thinking? If

your layer of tummy fat and feathers

keep your feet warm, maybe it can keep

your egg warm, too. What a warm and

fuzzy idea.

[Music]

But I don't think I can hold it here for

long. Why don't you try resting your egg

on your feet? That will keep the egg off

the ground while your tummy keeps the

egg nice and warm. That's an even better

idea.

It works.

[Music]

And look, here come the papa penguins.

And they're keeping their eggs warm the

exact same way.

And we figured it out all by ourselves.

Come on, Franny. Huddle with us for

warmth.

That's nice and cozy.

Puit, your egg is hatching.

Well, hello there, my little chick. Yes,

I'm your papa.

[Music]

[Applause]

Goopy glaloo. Everyone sure is happy.

They're all singing and each song is

different. Oh, I think I know what the

papas are trumpeting.

Kiddo, this is mine and your mom's

special call so you can always find us

no matter how many other penguins are

around.

[Applause]

Good boy.

[Music]

And now, Franny, you and my chick are in

for a treat. Look up in the sky.

Shimmering lights. I've never seen

anything so beautiful. Here in

Antarctica, we call them the southern

lights. They're just like the northern

lights at the North Pole. Stay and watch

with us. They're beautiful, Puit. But I

have to go home and finish a special job

of my own. Next time then, Franny.

Thanks again for your help. You're

welcome. Goodbye, Puit. Goodbye, little

chick.

Bye, Franny.

[Applause]

[Music]

That was excellent.

[Music]

A penguin feather.

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

Another treasure for my shoe box.

Come and sit in your chair.

I'm coming, Franny.

Why, Franny? Where did you learn such a

clever trick? I learned it from my

penguin friend, Puit, at the South Pole.

Pruit found a way to hold his egg

without using his wings. So, instead of

using my hands, I decided to use my chin

to hold the pillow. That's my little

franny. Not only is she using her chin,

she's also using her brains. Melissimo,

where will my feet take me tomorrow?

[Music]

Wee! Wee!

Wee! Oopsie!

My marble!

It's so dark under there. I can't see a

thing.

I think I need Grandpa's flashlight.

Pitiful. It must need new batteries. Now

I'll never find my marble.

A customer.

[Music]

Welcome to Fantosis. How can I help you

today? These shoes match the sparkly

dress I'll be wearing to a costume ball.

Only the heels are worn down. Don't

worry, I'll fix them for you. And then

you'll sparkle from head to toe. Can you

put these in the fix it box, Franny?

Okie dokie, Grandpa. Into the fix it box

they go.

[Music]

Where will my feet take me today?

[Music]

Ooh, a princess perfect dress. Sally,

what a pretty palace.

Welcome men. That means welcome to my

home. You live here? But I thought kings

and princesses lived in palaces. I am a

princess. I am Arch Duchess Maria of

Austria.

Hello, Arch Duchess Maria of Austria.

I'm Franny of Fentootsies. It's

absolutely delightful to meet you,

Franny of Fentootsies.

I've never been to a palace before. It's

absolutely fantastic.

Would you like to see the inside of the

palace, Frannie? It's absolutely

delightful.

I'd be delighted. This way. Follow me.

Oh,

ran terrific.

This is my father's study.

Jeepers. What sort of work does your

father do? He's the emperor. He rules

the empire. Oh, like a king.

[Music]

Fantabulous.

Where are we? This is the great gallery

where there is to be a royal ball this

evening.

An absolutely delightful ball. Oh, so

that's why you're wearing such a pretty

dress. Thank you, Franny.

And don't forget my royal tiara.

Come and dance the minuette with me. My

father says it's a very elegant dance.

Sure. I love music and dancing. Let's

dance.

[Music]

Step right. Step left. Step right. Step

left. Then off to the side. And step

[Applause]

right, step left. Wo! Step right and

left.

H I think I know what might help you.

Instead of looking down at your feet,

try watching your reflection in the

mirror. It will help you dance more

gracefully. Okay.

[Music]

It works.

Excellent, Franny. And to end the

minuette, we curtsy

[Music]

my diamond. My large sparkly diamond. It

has fallen out of its clasp. This is

absolutely awful. Don't worry, Maria.

I'm sure it didn't roll very far. Let's

have a look around.

I don't see it.

Where could my diamond be? Maybe it

rolled underneath the furniture.

Can you see it? It's too dark under

there. I wish I had a flashlight. A

flashlight? I never heard of such a

thing. Oops. Of course, flashlights

haven't been invented yet. We really

could use some more light. Maria,

what of the light coming from all the

lanterns? They are rather heavy, though.

Too heavy for us to carry. Plus, there

are candles inside, and my grandpa

wouldn't like it if I was holding

candles. If only we had a way to point

the light where we wanted.

[Applause]

Are you thinking what I'm thinking? What

is it, Franny? See how the light from

the lanterns bounces off the mirrors?

Maybe we can use the mirror to reflect

the lantern light towards the floor. Oh,

I see. If we reflect the light so it

points down, we'll be able to see where

my diamond went. Exactly. Let's give it

a try. How about that mirror? It looks

small enough to hold.

Ready?

Luminous lights. It works. Do you see my

diamonds, Franny?

Nope. Just a few dust bunnies. Oh dear.

We can't have that.

Anything now? No, I'm afraid not. Wait,

I see something.

Aha. Here

it is. My diamond. My absolutely

delightful diamond. Thank you, Franny.

Um, maybe you should save the curtsies

for later. I wouldn't want you to lose

any more jewels. Quite right, Franny.

Now, I must get this tiara repaired for

the royal ball. Oh, royal jeweler.

You must set the diamond back into its

clasp so it will be ready for the royal

ball. Mhm. Thank you.

Now come along, Franny of Fen tootssis.

Let us entertain ourselves with a snack

while we wait for the ball to begin.

[Music]

Oo, it's so sparkly. I told father the

ballroom needed more light, so he had it

decorated with shiny crystals. He also

got rid of the dust bunnies.

Presenting Arch Duchess Maria of

Austria. Presenting Franny of Vantosis.

You remember the dance steps I showed

you?

Let's dance.

[Applause]

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

Your minuette is absolutely delightful,

Franny. I hope you will stay for more

dancing. I'd love to, Maria, but I have

to go home now. There's something I need

to do there. All right, Franny, but I

must insist. It has been absolutely

delightful making your acquaintance.

Thanks. It's been wonderful meeting you,

too. Goodbye, Franny. Bye, Maria.

[Music]

That was dancerrific.

[Music]

A crystal.

[Music]

[Applause]

Another treasure for my shoe box.

Can I borrow your little mirror,

Grandpa, and your desk light, please? Of

course, Franny. But what do you need

them for? I'm going to use them to find

my marble. Just like Maria and I used a

mirror and light from a lantern to find

her diamond.

Okay, Franny. Let's give it a try.

There it is. I see it, Grandpa. Okay,

Franny. I'll get it. There we go. Yay!

We did it, Grandpa. Thanks for helping

me. You're welcome.

You know, I think this is the perfect

time for a game of marbles. What do you

say, Franny? I think a game of marbles

sounds absolutely delightful. Where will

my feet take me tomorrow?

[Music]
