[Music]
Space, home to strange and mysterious
marvels. Black holes, ice dwarves, bunny
rabbit ballet.
Hey, who are you calling strange?
Okay, I made that last one up. But
there's still lots of weird stuff in
space, yet nothing that can't be handled
by the Zula Patrol.
I believe the wormhole is right about
here. Oh, Wilson. Hello, Zula
Patrollers. You rang. Hi, Wilson. We're
going to a dress like a chicken party in
the Eggtopia galaxy. That's clear across
the universe. I know. That's why we need
a wormhole to help us get there. Say no
more, my friends. Wilson is at your
service.
[Music]
Uh-oh.
Oh no. We've used almost all our fuel
and our guidance system is fried. And
we're light years from Zula, lost in the
middle of nowhere. Everywhere is
somewhere, wig. I just don't know where
our particular somewhere happens to be.
Hang on, g*ng. Check this out. Proto
stars. Great galaxy. We're inside a
nebula.
What's a nebula?
Let me show you with my trusty Motoedia.
Look, there's the Cat Eye Nebula, the
Horsehead Nebula, and the Ring Nebula.
They're so beautiful. and useful, too. A
nebula is a huge cloud of gas and dust
in space where all stars are born. Even
the sun, which is a star, was born
inside a nebula about 5 billion years
ago.
Wow. She must meet an awful lot of
candles for her birthday cake.
As protoars, or young stars grow, they
pull gas and dust from the nebula toward
them. The gas and dust squash together.
All that squashing makes them get
heavier and hotter. The proto stars get
so hot that they explode. You could say
they pop like giant kernels of popcorn
as they turn into beautiful grownup
stars.
[Music]
Well, I'd love to look at a nebula all
day, but I'm worried about getting home.
If we can't get more fuel, we'll be
stuck here for good.
Why don't we ask one of those protoars
for help?
Here comes a protoar now. And there he
goes.
Finally, I'm going to get a look at
what's out there.
Uh-oh.
Someone is trying to leave our nebula.
Never fear. It's Buck Starburst to the
rescue. I'll soon have him safely home.
Byron. Hulk. In the name of Buck
Starburst.
Buck, you've been chasing me for about
6,000 years. Why don't you just leave me
alone?
Just doing my job. protecting all us
protostars from the unknown. Because
wherever there's a protoar that needs
protecting, wherever there's a nebula
that needs nebuling, wherever there's a
double binary star cluster that needs
whatever they need, I'll be there. Or my
name's not
Starburst.
Say, what's that over there?
Where? I don't see anything.
I'm sure I saw something unknown. That's
a clear violation of rule number 8563A.
Unknown somethings.
Hey, Buck. I think I see another protoar
trying to escape.
Where?
Way over there.
Oo, thanks. Hey, you fault in the name
of
Jeez, not the bucket again.
Star Wars.
Sorry. Buck means well, but any kind of
change in our nebula scares him. My
name's Byron. Hi, Byron. We're the Zula
Patrol. Are you sure Buck wouldn't like
to meet us? Like him, it's our job to
protect others, too. From change?
Oh my heavens, no. We like change and
discovering new things. That's how we
learn.
Really? I've waited so long to meet
beings like you. I bet the other
protoars would love to meet you, too.
Great idea. If any are about to become
stars, maybe we can use some of their
stellar energy as fuel to get home.
Terrific. Bring them on.
[Music]
They're called the Zula Patrol. They
come from a totally different part of
space.
We always thought there weren't any
other beings outside of our nebula.
Excuse me for saying so, but you all
seem a little older than most
protostars. Shouldn't you have changed
into grownup stars thousands of years
ago? We really don't know much about
ourselves. But I always thought there
was more to being a protoar than hanging
around inside a big cloud.
But this isn't just any cloud. It's a
nebula. And it plays an important part
in your future. Would you like to see
what I'm talking about?
Yeah.
Gorga, activate my molto evolvo vision.
[Music]
Hi boys and girls. I'm Frody the
protoar.
I live in a nursery for young stars
called a nebula. For years I've been
pulling gases and dust from the nebula
toward me. It all starts to squeeze
together and I get heavier and hotter
until finally
look at me now. I'm a grownup star just
like the sun. She's over 5 billion years
old.
Please, I don't look a day over 3
billion. Someday this same change will
happen to you and you and you.
[Music]
What's going on here? Unknown
somethings.
You protoars were supposed to change
into stars long ago. We're just trying
to help you out. Look, I know we asked
you to protect us from anything new and
different, but times have changed and we
want to change with them.
But but we all agreed that change is
scary, right? You can't change that.
I remember a time when my sister Wizzy
and I felt like you do now. It was our
first day of school. I don't want to go
in there. Why can't we just stay home?
It's not too late to get out of here.
Hello there, fellow knowledge seekers.
How come you're not in school?
We were going to ask you that.
It's my first day of kindergarten, too.
Would you believe me if I said I was
afraid to go to class? I don't know what
to expect.
Maybe if we all went in together, it
wouldn't be so scary.
Do you really think so?
Sure, you can hang with us. We'll look
out for you.
Aren't you a little big for
kindergarten?
Oh my stars. I'm not a student. I'm the
new teacher.
After that first day, school didn't seem
so scary. We all ended up having fun.
Especially me. So, you see, it's okay to
be scared by change and new things. But
remember, trying new things is how we
learn and grow.
That sure makes me feel better. But all
these new ideas are making my head spin.
I don't see how we're ever going to get
them to change into grown-up stars.
We're not going to give up that easily.
We have to help these proto stars.
Zeter's right. This is a job for the
Zula patrol. I sure hope this works.
It will with our ship disguised as the
protoar. We're almost out of fuel. So if
it doesn't, we're in deep trouble. Okay,
Byron, you know what to do. Hey Buck,
come quick. There's a slippery protoar
heading toward the edge of our nebula
again.
You there, return at once or feel the
wrath of my echo bucket.
[Music]
We're out of fuel.
Fortunately, Buck's so hot from his run
and so full of space dust, he's about to
explode and become a grownup.
Hey, who turned on the lights? I feel so
different. But I like it. The Zula
Patrol was right. I'm sorry. By
protecting everyone from new things, I
was keeping us all from becoming the
beautiful shining stars we were meant to
be.
That's okay, Buck. Hey, will you help
the rest of us change into grown-up
stars, too?
It's easy. All you have to do is take
some deep breaths, just like Buck did.
Now, hold it.
Now, let it go. Extending
solar panels to collect energy from our
star friends.
[Music]
[Music]
We did it with a little help from the
Zula Patrol.
Byron, I just don't know what you were
thinking making us wait this long to
change into grown-up stars.
Me?
Welcome back, Zula Patrol. I heard what
you did to help those protoars. Thanks.
Did you know they named their nebula
after you?
Who is that?
And so, we've learned that trying
something new can be a good thing. Now,
if only we could learn to pronounce the
name of that nebula. Zula Kula Hula. No.
No. Uh, Pastor Fazula. No, that's not
it.
[Music]
Hi there, science fans. Come on in. Time
for our mult. Do you know what these
are?
That's right. Each one is a nebula. A
nebula certainly takes up lots of space.
That's because it's a huge cloud of gas
and dust. Something very special is born
inside one. Do you know what it is?
Right. Again, a star. Stars are born in
a nebula. We have a star in the solar
system. Do you know who it is? You've
got it. The sun. The sun was born in a
nebula 5 billion years ago.
Good thing they named her son instead of
Ethel, or we'd all be reading the Sunday
funnies on Ethel day.
Sometimes I I just crack myself up.
[Music]
space. It's that big long bar on your
keyboard where the cookie crumbs fall.
While I look for more snacks under the
keys, why don't you see what the Zula
Patrol's up to?
Safety goggles on. Everyone
deploying solar shield.
I bring you greetings. Say, you look as
bright and gaseous as ever.
How can we help you?
It's my auntie Dorothy. She's a lovely
star, a red dwarf. She's practicing for
the upcoming Galactic Star Games. Isn't
that the big tournament where teams of
stars compete against each other in
different games?
Exactly.
Dorothy has her heart set on entering
the games, and I'd like to go help her,
but that might cause some um problems.
You mean like the total destruction of
the solar system?
That's one. Since I can't get away, I
was hoping you could go for me. We'd be
happy to. You're very important to us.
You could say the whole world revolves
around you.
I knew I could count on the Zula patrol.
Moto, what did this son mean about her
aunt being a red dwarf?
Excellent question. Let's take a look in
the Motoedia.
When you look at the night sky, the
stars look like twinkling lights. But
have you noticed that stars come in
different colors? A little help, please.
Thank you. All stars, including our
friend the sun, are huge ba*ls of gas.
And how hot a star is determines its
color. The big blue stars are the
hottest of all the stars.
Then come the yellow stars not as hot as
the blue stars.
And red stars are even less hot than
yellow ones.
The smallest red stars, like Aunt
Dorothy, are called red dwarfves.
Right. And red dwarf stars can last
billions of years.
Wow. Billions of years. When the sun
said her aunt was old, she wasn't
kidding.
So, you're the Zula patrol. My niece
told me all about you. How is she?
She's fine, ma'am. She wanted us to see
if there was a way we could help you
prepare for the Galactic Star Games.
Well, bless her heart. But there's
really no need. I've been training for
eons and now I'm all set to try out for
a team. And please honey, call me Auntie
Dorothy.
You know, Auntie Dorothy, you remind me
of my own aunt. Well, except you're four
trillion times bigger.
Wow, look at that. That's the team I
want to join. They're called the
Superstars. They're practicing for the
Starlight Scramble event.
Oh, I've heard of that. That's where
teams of stars slide through space and
form beautiful patterns.
Move it. Move it. Get the heavy metals
out. Now shift.
Just okay. Take five and we'll do it
again.
Aren't they spectacular?
I've wanted to be on that team since I
was a starlet. I've practiced and
practiced and now I'm ready to be a
superstar.
Nope. No room on the team.
But Coach Bruno, you haven't even seen
my moves yet. At least let me try out.
Don't have to. You're too old. My team
is made up of young stars.
Too old.
Hey, you haven't even given her a
chance.
When's the last time you coached a
winning team, huh? Well, I've coached
the last four, and it takes young stars
to win. I'm not going to waste my time
with every old star who thinks she's
still hot stuff.
I'm sorry you're sad, Aunt Dorothy. That
Coach Bruno is so unfair.
Oh, you said it, youngster. Coach Bruno
wouldn't know talent if it orbited
around his face.
Audie?
Aie's a member of my dance club.
Dorothy, I heard how Bruno treated you.
Oh, it makes me so mad.
But what can you do? I'll tell you what
you can do. You can stand up for
yourselves. Show them what you're made
of.
Hydrogen and helium.
No, I mean you should form your own
Starlight Scramble team and beat Bruno
at his own game.
But his team is made up of young, strong
blue stars. They always win. We don't
stand a chance.
Oh, Fed Stakes. It's a wonderful idea.
We'll get the members of the dance club
together and form our own team. That is
if these fine folks can help coach
Chase.
You can count on us.
Dorothy, you've got solar flare. I'm
with you.
Okay, everybody. The first practice of
the red dwarf star charges is about to
start.
We'll start with the pyramid formation.
Keep those lines straight.
You go right.
Uh, your other right.
[Music]
Come on, Star Chargers. We're not going
to let a little setback discourage us,
are we? We're going to double our
effort. Try harder.
Excuse me, Bula, but we weren't born
yesterday. Face it. We were awful. It's
no use.
[Music]
I'm afraid Audi's right. Learning these
complicated formations takes time. Time
we don't have. The Galactic Star Games
are tomorrow.
Look, maybe we're not going about this
the right way. You're in a dance club,
right? Instead of marching the routines,
why not do some fancy dance moves?
We can dance.
[Laughter]
Say for a youngster, that cheater has
quite a head on her shoulders.
If you're going to dance, we can supply
the music.
Not bad. But listen to this.
And a one. And a two. And a
[Music]
Those creaky old stars have created a
totally new routine. It's brilliant.
They're bound to win first prize.
They must be stopped.
Perfect. Now, everyone, go home and get
some rest. Tomorrow's the big contest.
Uh, Telegram for Arty Fusion Core. Huh?
What did you say? Telegram? Uh, will you
read it to me? I don't have my glasses.
Uh, Arty, the Starlight Scramble has
been moved to the other side of the
Milky Way galaxy. You must leave now.
Don't think, just go. Repeat.
Go.
Warmly Auntie Dorothy.
Way over there. I'd better get going
[Music]
programs. Get your Galactic Star Games
programs. And now to kick off the
Starlight Scramble, the twinkling
titans.
Head starting. And Arty isn't here yet.
This isn't like him.
Zeter, have you been able to get a hold
of Arty yet?
He left the message. Listen.
Hi, Zula Patrol. I got a message from
Dorothy to go to the other side of the
Milky Way. So that's where I am.
What? But why would Audie leave? He
knows we need his music.
We can catch up with him and bring him
back. This is a job for the Zula Patrol.
Wizzy Wig, you stay here with Auntie
Dorothy. The rest of us have an arty to
catch.
[Music]
I can't stop now. I got to get to the
Galactic Star Games.
[Music]
Party. No. They're being played back
where you were. I wish they'd make up
their minds.
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
[Music]

[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
This is great. I got to join my team.
[Music]
And Starch Chargers had to start without
Arty. Darty decided it was time to try
some new music. Cool, huh?
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
to award the Star Chargers with the
Starlight Scrambles first prize.
[Music]
Uh, congratulations.
And I'm really sorry. I was wrong when I
said you were too old. I guess being
your age means you've had time to learn
a lot of stuff we haven't. Maybe you
could teach us some of it.
Glad to. And don't worry, you'll get it.
You're young yet.
Well, time we head back to Zula. I can't
thank you enough. And when you pass
through the solar system on your way
home, thank my niece son for sending
you. Oh, and tell it for me that her r
auntie Dorothy may be getting older, but
she's still cool.
And the one and the two and the three.
Music, dancing, and more stars than you
can shake a stick at. You get it all
with each and every adventure of the
Zula Patrol.
[Music]
It's time for our molto moment. Now, can
you tell me what causes the stars to be
different colors?
Um, paint.
Not exactly. Do you know? Right. You
are. The color of a star is determined
by its temperature or how hot it is. Big
blue stars are the hottest of all the
stars. Then come the yellow stars, less
hot than the blue stars. And red stars
are less hot than yellow ones. And for
paying attention, you deserve a gold
star.
Now that's hot.
