Hello and welcome to Nailed It! Germany,

the show in which three hobby bakers
try their hand

at the greatest cake masterpieces,
and usually fail.

But that's what makes our show
so exciting,

plus the fact that one of them
will win €5,000.

I'm Angelina Kirsch

and I’m sending lots of love out
to you viewers at home,

because today's theme is love.

Here is a guy I met without a dating app.

He is the pastry chef of our hearts,

our very own Bernd Siefert.

And I actually have not only one
but two judges with me today.

Our guest judge today, Lilly Becker.

Oh, it's so nice to have you!

And here are our contestants.

My name is Efi, I am 31 years old,
and I live in Lüdenscheid, in Sauerland.

Of course everything will
go wrong right from the start.

Is that right?

I love baking, all the preparation...

And making someone happy with it.

My problem is
that I always want to do things perfectly.

I really want the cake to look perfect

and I think that
could really be my downfall.

I am Bodo.

I'm 63 years old and live in Berlin.

When I was little,
I always used to watch my mother bake.

When she baked cake at home, I would help.

Ouch, I almost cut my finger.

I think I'm a creative person.
I enjoy just letting the ideas flow.

I don't like sticking
to some boring old recipe...

I like to let my imagination
take over a bit.

It’s absolutely... I find it very relaxing.

My name is Alex, I am 35 years old,
and I am from Düsseldorf.

It's important to wash your hands first!

Currently I am a stay-at-home Dad.

I have a wonderful son,
who I'm very proud of.

Today, my dad Alex will show you
how to bake a cake.

I've been single
for almost four years now.

I am the king of calm
and I don't lose my cool.

I'm ready to get going!

Welcome, dear contestants!

I think today's theme
is a great match for you, lovelies.

It's also a great match for you, Lilly.

Because it's about
the most beautiful emotion...

love.

If anyone knows about love
and its pitfalls,

it's you, Lilly, right?

How is your love life going?

Ah... today?

-Nothing at all.
-Nothing?

-Nothing. And it's going to stay that way.
-So, Alex...

No, Alex. It's all good!

Stay where you are.

I will worry about love later.

Then let's take a look at round one
of our Liebeskarrussell

with the beautiful name, Baker's Choice!

I'd say,
let's open the gate to our hearts.

Here we see the three stages of love
made of cake pops.

In love: the red rose
and the winged heart.

Married: the cute couple!

The last stage is Voodoo!

Because once love is over,

people don’t usually
wish the best for one another.

Stop!

Not yet! Wait until I say "Go!"

I am the boss.

-I thought...
-No cheating.

-Oh hey!
-Alex!

Careful now.

I’m watching you today.

So, to the cake pops... Ready, steady, go!

Faster!

Oops!

Yeah!

Dear Bernd, what could make
our contestants' hearts skip a beat?

Well, you can see
that the cake pops are on sticks.

And here it's important
to get the mixture right.

If it's too soft...

Alright? Be careful.

Today is all about emotions,

but you can also win something,
even in round one.

But only one of you will win,

so give it your all.

You have 45 minutes.

And I would hurry up
because time's running already.

Quick!

Yes!

First I’ll start by maybe weighing out
all of the ingredients.

Right... wash my hands.

Alex just washed his hands.

-He's the only one.
-Good to know.

He's the only one.

Bernd, what do these cake pops have...

that I don’t?

-Do you really want me to say?
-sh**t!

For cake pops, mix cake,
buttercream and alcohol together.

The texture is important.

Stick the pops on a stick.

They are more likely to stay up
if you dip the stick in candy melts.

It'll create a little base underneath.

Coat the pops with candy melts.

Decorate them
with fondant elements as desired.

Done. It's actually not that hard.

Zero. Where is the zero?

In the beginning,
everyone uses the scales a lot.

-Yeah?
-Yes.

And later when time is running out
it's like: “Oh, a pinch of salt!”

The mix has to be right.

One...

Could be 2oz.

-He is not using the scales!
-No!

That...

-That's what I'm saying.
-And he is so relaxed.

-He's using his intuition.
-Right.

This should be about right.

In with the butter.

Bang.

Right.

Right, cream cheese.

He licked his finger and...

So much about washing your hands.

My granny always used to do this.
I thought it was horrible.

He--

-He's washing his...
-He's washing them now,

-but he cleaned the spoon with the finger.
-He did, yes.

-So it's redundant.
-A bit too late.

Strawberry liqueur.

Just a glug....

is enough.

Limoncello!

Looks like Bodo is not just using
one liqueur for his wedding.

Yummy!

Maybe he wants to get us drunk.
He thinks that will help him.

I'll use a little more. It tastes good!

He's adding a bit more alcohol and then,
"Look how pretty they turned out!"

Here we go.

It's not totally impossible to do,

but there are so many little steps.

-Efi is working with a plan.
-She is...

She knows what she's doing.

I wouldn't go and call myself
a cake-pop queen,

but I have made them before.

I’ve also used colored candy melts
and that's that.

Oops, stay here!

It will be fine.
Now it has to be mixed together.

Should I use all of this? I don't know.

Oh!

It didn't touch the floor!

I was conscious of the time

and I had to come up with a strategy

and that threw me of my game a little.

How much time have we got left?

You have 30 minutes left.

Thirty?

I have to form the figures first,
but it's pretty firm.

Efi, my dough is quite firm.
Is it because of the candy?

More cake than buttercream.

Okay, good!

I wasn't brave enough to use so much.

Yeah, just try!

-His bowl is filling up with cake.
-Yes!

More is more. As I always say.

And now the candy stuff.

Ah, everything's here.

"Dip in candy melt."

I guess it means I have to melt it.

This candy melt,

-these pieces, should they be melted?
-Yes.

-In the microwave?
-Yes.

We professionals
don't call it “candy melt”.

We call it “fat glaze”.

-Oh God, that sounds really disgusting.
-Doesn't sound...

That's the way it is.

-Use a small bowl.
-Yes.

Don't leave them in too long
and don't use full power.

Just use your instinct, you don't know
what this microwave is like.

-You don't want it to burn.
-Okay.

Yes, chocolate is more delicious.

-It is chocolate.
-No.

I have no idea how long it takes...

for this stuff to melt.

Nothing's happening.

I can't get this stuff to melt.

Ah, it's starting to soften.

That took some time.

Well, we'll see.

What a mess.

I’ll do it differently.

It doesn't look very nice.
I'll have to improvise now, people.

How much time have we got left?

You have some time left.
Go! Go and bake!

Really?

Is he trying to chat us up? Men, right?

Yes.... men...

-Are you married?
-No.

-No.
-But you...

-I've got a boyfriend.
-You're in a relationship.

Yes. And what about you?

-Come on, a little bit of gossip. No?
-No.

You're sick of it for now?

No, that's not it...

Not sick of it, but taking it slowly...

I'm dating a little bit here and there.

Maybe there is someone that I really like,

but I don't want a relationship right now.

But dating is cool.

I always say it's like buying shoes.

You try them,
you walk around in them a little.

But you take time to think
before you buy, right?

I'd say we both have gotten a couple
of blisters from our shoes, right?

Yeah, awesome!

Goodness gracious!

Fondant is a real challenge.

I thought it would be easier.

I thought I'd nail it.

Oh, darn. Darn!

There were moments where I wished
my son was here

because we're a great team

and I think together
we would have rocked it.

Da da da...

Stay calm.

I'm a little scared.

You have ten minutes left.

Oh, well... that much?

Catastrophic.

That much, Bodo?

More than ten would be better.

Yippie! Well, let's see.

My advantage in round one is that I have
actually worked with fondant before.

I know how I need to do it.

Efi’s covering the whole thing in fondant.

She's got both of her hands
almost full of it.

That... will slide down later and...

Tricky.

Oh boy, how should that...

Keep calm over there, Alex.

-Tell me, what do you need?
-How can I do the heart in black?

Do you have something?

-What do you mean, “the heart in black”?
-Yes, I'm--

And especially the rose.

Dude, you’re much further than me.

-Are you kidding me?
-No, I'm not. It just looks that way but--

He just comes over to have a look.

It’s not staying on. That’s the problem.

I need a sugar glaze.

It's not helping. Bloody he--

The fondant was really nerve-wracking
and hard work.

Oh dear...

It's all falling apart.

See? The stick has come off already.
Great.

I was sh**ting my mouth off
about how easy this was going to be.

But this is a big disaster now.

Right...

The candy melt didn't work out for Bodo.

So he went for pure dough.

It's important to dip the stick first

into the melted candy melt.

-Then you have a kind of a stopper.
-Ah!

If you don't do that
your cake pop could just...

Putting it on the stick...

Oops!

You see! It'll keep sliding down.

It doesn't stick.
So I have to squeeze it at the top.

Now the wedding dress is a little dirty.
Oops!

I don't know why it keeps sliding down.

I'll put it in the freezer.

He's put it into the freezer,
hoping it's going to freeze to the stick.

Yes, but we didn't ask for ice ba*ls.

We didn't ask for ice ba*ls.

No time left.

The way he's kneading that
it's must be made of pure fondant.

I am trying to make the rose.

And I am wondering
how best to go about it.

Bloody hell!

How--

I want to see you eat that later,

-because I can't.
-I don't want to.

You have to. You're a judge.

Pure fondant?

-We also have to eat things we don't like.
-I know what fondant tastes like.

It's sweet and smelly.

Just like dogs.

I am totally messing it up right now.

Totally.

It won't stay up,
it's sliding down by itself.

-Alex, come on! The rose!
-Yes, I'm at it!

Oh dear, everything's collapsed.

-It's a little bit nerve-racking, right?
-Yes!

I am doing the eyebrows now.

The hat's fallen off. I can't believe it.

Five! Four! Three! Two! One!

Hands up! Time's up!

Oh God.

It could have gone better.

So, the moment of truth!

Dear Bodo,
this is the lovely original you chose.

Yes.

Now please show us
what you’ve made for us.

Let's see.

Nailed it!

-Yes...
-Yes.

-Duh!
-Yes!

-Yes.
-Yes...

-You said today is all about love, right?
-Yes.

And since the saying goes,
"for better and for worse",

he’s got an umbrella.

On rainy days, he’s there for her
and he can give her shelter.

But it's... The husband is already starting
to move away from her.

So I'm not so sure!

-I love the creativity you put into this.
-Thank you.

For better and for worse. That's great.

They are standing upright.

I don't think it's that bad.

Thank you.

-So let's taste what you've made.
-Yes!

Yes. I'm glad I don't have to taste it.

Very encouraging!

Yes...

There's a lot of butter in it.

-I can only taste butter!
-What? I also put cream cheese in.

Butter and sugar.

-Yes, icing sugar.
-Oh my God.

All this butter
is giving Lilly goosebumps!

Yes, indeed!

What did you put in there?

I can taste several flavors.

Yes, it has several.
Strawberry and lemon flavor.

-No! That was only butter.
-No.

-We'll leave it at that for now.
-Yes.

-Efi, you chose this masterpiece.
-Yes.

Now we’re excited
to see your lovely result.

Please lift the cloche for us.

Nailed it!

Okay...

Your voodoo doll is a voodoo octopus.

This voodoo doll is constantly
the target of such hatred

so he’s always eating up feelings.

And he keeps getting fatter.

But...

it's a cake pop,
and you're the cake pop queen.

Not really.

-It should be standing up on a stick.
-Yes.

I think your devil is amazing.
It think it's great.

-Thank you.
-Really great.

Great, so let's taste this!

Ah look!

A coat of candy melt.

Much better than Bodo's.

It's actually really yummy.

-Not as much butter, right?
-Yes.

You added the coat of chocolate.

The combination of the soft inside
and the crunchy chocolate... Lush!

It really makes you
want to take another bite, like Lilly did.

-Right?
-Yes. It was yummy.

It was yummy.

For me it was yummy.

-Thank you.
-Right!

-Let's move on to honeybunny Alex.
-Hello.

These are the symbols of love
that you chose.

Now we can't wait
to see your lovely creation.

Nailed it!

-Oh no!
-Failed it.

-Yes.
-What's happened here?

Well, it slid down, but it was up before!

The rose--

-What's that?
-That's a rose?

That's a rose.
Yes, but it's not opened up yet

because I haven't found love yet.

Alex, I see a strawberry
with googly eyes that got run over,

-and I see a nasty little tomato man.
-No!

And I think
cake pops should be standing upright.

I hope it tastes better than it looks.

It's great.

-Yes?
-Where's the cake?

I didn't have enough time.

-Alex?
-Yes, please.

How much butter did you put in this?

Well, it said 3,5oz.
I might have used around 4oz.

I like butter. But not this much.

Did you only taste butter?

Yes.

No. All good.

-I'm okay.
-Lilly is in butter shock... again.

-It can only get better.
-True.

It can only get better.

Now it’s time for our decision.

We have a winner.

Bernd, please tell us who the winner is.

The person whose cake pop
convinced us the most is...

Efi!

And now I'm sure you'd like to know
what you have won.

Yes!

An amazing food processor!

Cool!

And you'll get our golden baker's hat.

So everyone can see
that you won round one.

Yay!

-Well done!
-I'm happy!

Well done. Nice.

On to round two! Don't let things slide,
give it all you've got!

Well, my dears.

This next round is dedicated
to our guest judge Lilly Becker

and her quest for love.

It's time for Nailed It or Failed It,

to kick off our final round.

And don't forget,

the winner of round two will win €5,000.

Let's open the door.

Lilly, this is
your roller coaster of emotions,

rolled into a cake and baked with love.

-Wow!
-Dear Lord!

From the center court of tears,

you will ascend to the sphere of new love.

And I am convinced

that your next wedding carriage
will be drawn by unicorns.

-At least!
-Yes.

So, bakers. We’re going
to bake a new future for Lilly.

Yep. Alright.

What do you say?

-That is a challenge indeed.
-Yes.

Lilly, do you like the cake
we made for you?

-Yes.
-Yes?

Yes. Maybe not with the tennis--

-So more the upper part?
-Yes. Exactly.

Alex, you had some dating troubles
in the first round,

which is why you will get an advantage

with the beautiful name "Time for Two".

Your two competitors will get to enjoy
a special date with Lilly and myself!

We will chain ourselves to you,

so you will only have one hand
to bake with.

-Nice!
-You've got two hours.

And the clock is ticking. I'd hurry!

Two hours isn't much for a cake like that.

Let's see what's going on.

Right, let's see.

Here we go.

Right, five eggs.

I'm taking all the pans
before someone else takes them.

Bang, done.

Bernd, I don't know what to say.

Tell me something about this cake!

Bernd, that was good! See?

-Let me talk about the cake. Right...
-Yes. Please.

So, first you need to bake enough bases
for a three tiered cake.

Fill the layers with buttercream
and strawberry jam.

Then, you just cover it with fondant.

Cover each layer with buttercream.

It's important that the color gradient
on the top part of the cake is visible,

and then decorate it.

That's it.

Nobody will manage this.

It's totally doable
if you put in enough effort.

-In two hours?
-Yes!

-The entire cake?
-Yes.

-Can you do it?
-Yes.

How do you think Alex will do?

-He'll be hectic.
-Hectic?

In round two
I want to be more strategic, calmer.

I'll read the recipe
and think about how to go about it.

If Alex can stay focused this time...

Alex hasn't even--

Alex hasn't even got a cake tin
on his table yet.

I still believe in Alex.

Somebody has to.

"Whisk eggs, sugar and spices."

I thought, "How can I build a cake
this high in such a short time?"

And I decided to make double or even
triple the amount of the basic recipe.

So I need 15 eggs.

Here we go.

First, all the eggs go in here.
I need 15 in total.

One...

Efi is baking enough for a whole regiment.

She's clever. She's baking in bulk.

It won't fit into this bowl.
I can see that already.

I’ll have to transfer some to another
bowl and then fold it in. Yes.

I think Efi just realized

that with her amount of batter
she will run into some issues.

I will somehow try to get this batter
mixed evenly.

I'm experimenting.

We'll see how it turns out.

I don't have enough batter.

I'll put these in the oven
and then I have to make more batter.

Okay.

Next, I'll put some Nutella in there

to make it look a bit different.

-What's that? Chocolate?
-Yes.

He is making a chocolate batter, I think,

to change it up.

It's leaking out and I don't know why!
Dammit!

Oh no.

-Did he...
-Oh no.

Did he not close it?

Oh sh*t!

Don't swear. That won't help.

We'll just have to see.
They have to finish baking now.

I think Bodo is a bit...
He’s totally relaxed, isn't he?

-Yes, he is.
-He's just whisking...

He is making his buttercream.
You have to go easy on it, don't you?

That's true.

I’m relaxed in the kitchen.

Cooking and baking somehow calm me down.

I usually put nice music on,
something to relax to.

That's really yummy.

You could eat the whole bowl.

Yummy!

Awesome!

Whoooo!

Alex took his first cake out of the oven.

It's going to be great!

Very flat.

Yes!

I will definitely try
to make the unicorn first.

Right.

Whatever this will be.

Oh dear.

Oh boy, he’s already--

He looks like he’s ready
to push that button.

Please, the annoy button.

The annoy button!

-Bodo!
-Yes.

-Honey, where are you going?
-Will we be chained together?

Yes.

Forever?

-Forever, sweetie.
-Great.

-Yes.
-I'm happy.

Okay, my dear. You can choose
which hand you want chained up.

-Is that okay?
-Yes.

Wonderful.

-Why are you pulling me away?
-I want to look at your cake.

Give me some time, yes?

I'm happy. But now I have to hurry.
Three minutes aren't much.

What are you working on?

The unicorn.

-Unicorn.
-Unicorn. Yes.

Do you think it needs more time?

I’m going to k*ll you, Alex!

-What did you say?
-Not you, him!

It was really mean of Alex
to press the button.

Very good.

It wasn't nice.

It really wasn't nice.

Please don't burn yourself.

You really aren't moving one bit.

Where do you want me to go? It's hot.

"Time for Two" is over!

-Is it over? What a shame.
-Yes, what a shame.

-You are free, darling. Finally!
-Finally!

-Good luck!
-See you later.

Alright, my friends.

The unicorn, oh boy.

Dear oven lovers,

I would hurry if I were you.

No!

Okay.

Efi, what happened to your lips?

I didn't like my lipstick.

-And I thought I'd spice it up a bit.
-They're blue!

She has blue lips.

I am making the lollipops,
or lollies, or whatever they are called.

Why ready-made lollipops?

It hurts me to see that.

Just lighten up a bit.

Now it's falling apart.

I'll do something crunchy now. Yes!

Rice crispies.
I will put them in the middle.

Yes, and then we will see.

Alex! Why is he such a cheat?
I didn't expect that from him.

Yes, he is.

We should rename the show.

How to Best t*rture Bernd.

Oh my goodness!

Now, I have to somehow
make a tennis racket.

I am sweating.

I'm exhausted.

I can't keep going much longer.

Hurry up, everybody.

You really need to pick up the pace.
You only have five minutes left.

-Five minutes!
-What's wrong with your watch?

I'm trying to fix whatever I can fix.

Yes!

It doesn't look so great from the back.

The last minute has started!

I am working on the last few details.
Making it pretty.

What else could I put on it?

I forgot something.

My hearts!

Five! Four! Three! Two! One!

Hands up! Time is up!

My table was too small.

We can't wait to see
your future visions of Lilly's love life.

Let's take a look
at the wonderful original.

Bodo, let's start with you.

-Okay.
-God, please!

Nailed it!

It's leaning a little.

Not everything's straight forward in life.

The cake is made of three tiers.

In life, we want to be on the up and up.

That's what this cake
is trying to symbolize.

-I think your unicorn is really adorable.
-Thank you.

I also think you came up with a cute idea
for the lollipops.

However, unfortunately
I can't make out a tennis court.

Or the second tier.

-The lawn.
-The whole thing is a bit small.

You weren't to bothered
about the measurements, right?

Yes...

I said that nobody will manage
to make this cake.

However, I think your unicorn is perfect.

-Thank you!
-The hearts are perfect, too.

I hope it tastes as good as it looks.

Moving on to our dear Efi!

Show us your creation!

Nailed it!

The thing I like most is the unicorn.

Oh no, and also your attention to detail.

The two feet that are sticking out
from underneath the base.

I really like that!

I really tried to get the three tiers.

The bottom is the past,

and the middle layer
is the transition period,

when you maybe
have to find yourself again.

For me it was supposed to look
like a sunny sky, a sunset.

Yours looks more like a rainy day
up in North Germany, doesn't it?

On a positive note,

you actually managed to make
the color gradient on the top tier.

I'm not a fan
of the two ready-made lollipops.

I’m sure you could have made better ones.

I really don't have any criticism.

All the details are there.

You made it, it's upright,
and I am looking forward to tasting it.

-Thank you.
-Moving on with our cake speed-dating.

Alex, now show us what you made!

Nailed it!

Let's start with the good part.

You have managed to make three tiers.

Great.

That coming from you, wow.

-Do you know what a unicorn looks like?
-Yes.

And do you also know
what a blobfish looks like?

Yes, but that's not what it is.

Do you know what a beluga whale is?

It looks like that to me.

Right.

You know how it is with love.

Sometimes you need a little distance
to see things clearly.

That's why we're leaving now.

I am going to win this.

Because my son is rooting for me.

Let it rain cake!

Let's start with Bodo's cake.

Get it!

-Bodo?
-Yes.

I'm glad you put so much buttercream
in between the layers,

because your cake is a little dry.

Yes, right.

Maybe our criticism about butter
from round one put you off a bit.

True!

I've still got some butter left.

Your top two tiers are really good,
airy sponge cakes.

The bottom tier is a total fail.

Not working to exact measurements
turned this into a disaster.

It was tasty. But it does need the icing

to make it less dry.

All in all, it's not bad.

Moving on. Dear Efi.

Oops.

I taste a lot of eggs.

Yes, I used 15 eggs.

It tastes a bit like scrambled egg cake.

Your cake isn't overly sweet.

Which I don't think is that bad.

Between the layers...

Did you put anything in between them?

-Yes, mousse.
-Yeah?

Then it's not quite enough.

It's the tastiest part of the cake,
this mousse.

I was also looking for more mousse,
really looking for it.

-It's a shame.
-Okay.

And we do have
a third contestant in the show.

Calm down, guys.

I like that you made a chocolate cake.

-It brings a bit of variety.
-Right.

The chocolate part of your cake
is really tasty.

The other part not so much.

The bottom cake is bone dry,
like a tennis court.

You recreated that perfectly.

So, my dear bakers.

Much the same as it is in love,
there can only be one

who will win the €5,000,

plus our absolutely glamorous
Nailed It! trophy.

Bernd, would you please
announce today's winner.

The most beautiful cake
about Lilly's future was...

baked by Bodo!

And this is mine now!

-Bye!
-I want to take a selfie!

Let's take a selfie!

I'm going to take that cake home!
