This next challenge will take inspiration
from fashion classics of the past.

From the punk looks of the '70s

to '60s flower power

and the iconic flapper dress.

We're gonna take you
on a time machine through fashion.

-Good morning, designers.

[designers] Good morning.

[Gigi] I look down the line
like there's gonna be more people,

then I'm like, "Oh! That's it."

[all chuckling]

[Tan] I cannot believe
there are just five of you left.

You are all one step closer
to winning this whole darn thing

and becoming next in fashion.

But, before we look
too far into the future,

it's time to look into the past.

[rock music playing]

You've each been assigned a decade
based on the bag you randomly chose.

We wanna see you take inspiration

from an iconic fashion trend
of that decade

and turn it into something
that could be worn today.

Bao, you've got a full look,
even with the hair, everything.

-I'm so inspired already.
-[Tan] Very '80s!

[all laughing]

Iconic clothes have stood the test of time
because of how popular they were.

You need to make sure your look offers
the same potential for this generation.

Pick a popular garment from your decade,
reimagine it, infuse it with your genius,

and get it made
for the runway show tomorrow.

For your Everything Old Is New runway,

we'll be joined by an extra-special guest.

She has been the face of huge brands
like Miu Miu, Tiffany & Co.

She is always on the cutting edge
of where fashion is going.

Tomorrow we'll be joined
by the classy, the cultured, the chic

Hailey Bieber.

-[designers applauding] Ooh!
-[Amari] What?!

[all laugh]

Nige, you seemed happy.

-Yeah, that's super dope. [laughs]
-[Tan] Bit of a crush?

She's taken.

-She's hot, right?
-She's married, Tan.

So? It doesn't...
I mean, I fancy her husband.

-He's taken.
-[all laughing]

For this challenge,
you will each need to present one look.

[Tan] After tomorrow's runway,

myself, Gigi, and our judges will select
one designer as the challenge winner,

and sadly, we'll then also
have to say goodbye

to at least one of you.

Are you ready for
your Everything Old Is New challenge?

Yes!

It starts...

[drumroll]

[both] Now!

[exciting music playing]

Look at 'em go!

-[Gigi] They don't even run anymore.
-[chuckling] I know.

[Desyrée] '50s. '50s. '50s. '50s.

Biker jacket, cigarettes, slicked hair.

-Gige.
-Tanny.

-Everything Old Is New.
-[Gigi] Yes, sir.

So we want them to create something
that is interesting but also wearable

and references something
from their specific decade.

[Gigi] And what's tough is that
they have to choose an iconic design,

but they still need to make it special
and their own.

If I was in the '50s,
I ain't wearing no dress.

Exactly. [laughs]

[Desyrée] So I probably had
a hot pink biker jacket.

[Tan] Desyrée's '50s.

[Gigi] She kind of does
have that aesthetic already.

I haven't done any type of suiting,
so I kinda wanna flex my technical skills.

-I know you can handle it.
-Just a little bit.

Just a little bit.

-Then we have Amari who has the '60s.
-[Gigi] Yes.

[Tan] Another good one for Amari.

[Gigi] It will make her design
in a really fun way

that maybe
she wouldn't have pushed herself at home.

I'm really feeling,
like, a bell-bottom flex

with, like, a nice denim cuff.

[Gigi] I'm excited for Nigel
to take us back to the '70s.

He picked that bag,
which was almost like quilting patchwork,

so I hope that he sees
he can still do the patchwork,

but I want him to surprise us.

I wanna do, like,
the glitzy, glamorous, and big structure.

We have Bao, who's got the '80s.

I love '80s fashion. I think it's insane,
over the top, really campy,

and she's all of those things.

The person that has the hardest challenge
is Deontré

because '90s
is very much on trend right now,

so it will be interesting to see
can he compete with designers of the day?

I'm gonna make it a parachute windbreaker,
which was a popular thing in the '90s.

So when you know that the model come out,
they get, like, whoosh.

You live for the drama.

Just a little bit.

-Or a lotta bit. [laughs]
-[laughs]

The pressure is on.

They can't hide behind anyone
at this point.

There's only five of them left.

We need to see something wonderful
'cause if you slip up,

you're not gonna make it
to the semi-finals.

-[Deontré] What y'all thinking?
-Hot pink.

I'm gonna do denim.

I wasn't gonna play with denim,
but I'mma play with denim.

I am so happy I got the '80s.

This is totally my childhood.

I think of Dynasty,big hair,

and so much jewelry, and big silhouettes.

So I'm going to make an '80s prom dress

because who does not love
a ginormous, big, puffy shoulder?

But it has to be reimagined
with the Bao factor.

♪ Are you ready for it? ♪

[Bao] So it's gonna have
all these cutouts on the side,

this asymmetrical drape on the shoulder

with this ginormous puff sleeve,

and I found the most amazing fabric.

It goes from red to magenta to turquoise.

It is to die for.

For me,
fit and construction is everything,

so getting it to fit amazing on her
is gonna be the challenge.

-Hey, Nige.
-[Tan] What are you making?

[Nigel] So I have the '70s, so I think
of, like, fringe, bell-bottoms,

and then chevron pattern
was very popular in that time as well,

so I wanted to create my own.

I'm making bell-bottoms
with a chevron print with lace,

and then I'm also going to add,
like, these slouch pockets,

and then for the top, I think I'm gonna
create an oversized mock turtleneck.

It's interesting that you've added lace.
I've never seen you use lace before,

and I think
it's a really interesting detail.

So beautiful.

I love that.
Are you putting this on a girl?

-No, I'm not.
-Ugh!

[laughs]

-I'm starting to be offended.
-[Tan laughs] I know!

[Nigel] I chose a male model
'cause that's my strong suit.

You know, I'm gonna go give it my hardest

and really make it my aesthetic
and bring that to life.

Think about your business in the future.

You don't just wanna target
one demographic when you can do both.

Definitely.

How are you feeling
going the furthest back in history?

-[Tan laughs]
-Feelin' good. Um...

I researched a little bit,
like, the fashion in the '50s.

I feel like
there was two ends of the spectrum.

You had the older guys
who wore the overcoats,

and you had the young rebels
that wore moto jacket with the jeans.

So I wanted to combine those,

but also make it something
that I would see today.

So I'm going to make
a pink biker jacket, pink trousers,

and then classic oversized overcoat
in a gray-black color.

What you're wearing now
could have stepped out of the '50s.

Yeah. I just have a lot
of vintage inspiration,

like from my dad, whatever he wears.

I think he would've wore
the hot pink biker jacket.

-Okay.
-I think that would be fire.

I have people, when I work, I think,
"I really want them to be proud."

Certain people.

Yeah. My mom, my dad, and Gab.
Like, those are my people.

-Who's Gab?
-My woman.

Oh, I didn't know you had a partner!
That makes me happy!

How long have you been together?

-[Desyrée] Eight years.
-[Tan, Gigi] Oh wow.

Yeah, we locked in.

Gab is my beautiful, amazing woman.

[Desyrée] We work together.
I handle all the creative stuff.

She handles the logistics of the brand.

She keeps me in check, like,

"Mm-mm, girl,"
or, "That's fire. Go harder."

Like, we run our businesses together.
We live together.

When you spend 24/7 with someone,

you definitely feel them
when they're not there.

I'm definitely missing Gab. [chuckles]

And I'm doing a mini skirt
with the oversized buttons as well.

Has anyone besides Jackie O
inspired this look?

My grandma.

[Tan] Oh!

And I really wanna channel her

because she was a hot girl
back in the day.

She's so stylish.

but for, like, a gala.

[Deontré] My item that I wanna take
from the '90s is the overalls.

And I wanna, like, re-imagine that
and take it into the world of tomorrow.

[Deontré] I wanna kinda do,
like, a two-tone denim overalls

to kinda, like, give
some type of edginess.

I'm also making a parachute windbreaker

with different patchwork of patterns
that I learned from Nigel to...

I love that you're taking things
you've learned from each other.

-I love that.
-That's so great. I'm so excited.

I feel like being here,
I'm free to create and just be myself,

like, 'cause I work at a law firm
as a guest service representative.

-Like, my nine-to-five.
-You do?!

-Yes. [laughs]

It's kinda hard,
thinking I work at a law firm.

-That's so random for you!
-[Deontré] I know. It's so random.

Wait, so this is just a side thing
for you right now?

No, this is, like, my first baby.

I've been a designer for 12 years,

but I kinda put it on the back burner
when I lost both my parents.

After my parents passed away,
I wasn't in love with fashion no more.

Like, I just was in a dark place.

[emotional music playing]

Something that I created for myself,
like, I lost it.

And my imagination wasn't running wild.

I kinda lost myself,
so being here, it really just took me back

into that world
when I first fell in love with fashion.

-So this will change your life.
-Yes, it definitely will.

Like, I can literally just say, "Peace."
[laughs] I can send in my two weeks

and be like, "I'm living my dream."
That's what's important.

-[Tan] Yeah. Good.

This ain't short enough for me. [chuckles]

[Nigel] Right now
I'm working out the pattern

to the bell-bottom.

So it's gonna line up perfectly
with these stripes

to create, like, the chevron pattern.

I wanna create a chevron pattern
on the side seam

where the lace embroidery and the denim
kinda meet up at a point.

I don't really use lace,
but I wanna push myself

and kind of implement
more of a feminine take on my designs.

I just gotta make sure that these lines
are matching up perfect

'cause if not, I would lose
that aspect of the inspiration.

I've never been so meticulous
on my seam lines with patchworking,

but it's top five, you know.
There's no time to slack.

One wrong thing
and you could get sent home.

[Desyrée] Right now I'm just working
on my '50s-inspired biker jacket

using a lambskin pink leather.

I've never made a biker jacket before.
I've never sewn leather before.

Leather punctures, so any type of mess-up,

you have to scrap
the entire piece of leather.

I just have to go very slow.

I would hope the judges
can see that I'm pushing myself

and creating something new
every challenge.

I wanna win, so I'mma bring it.

With only five of us left,

I'm trying to focus more than I was
in the beginning of the competition

'cause it was like,
"Oh yeah, it's all fun. This is so fun."

And now I wanna win the money.

So you get the serious Des.

I see you. It's the only part
that's getting there. [chuckles]

-You need to figure out that collar, bro.
-From the back, it's giving '60s.

You know those collars that they had
where it was a scoop neck?

That's what I wanted from the back.

I can see that.

This is my first time making a jacket.
There's definitely gonna be challenges.

Well, this is gonna have to be reworked.

It needs to fit perfectly,
so I'm just trying to figure it out.

I wanted it to be a super crop,
so I did some fitting on me,

but depending on how big her boobs are,
I don't think I should cut it just yet.

♪ Find somebody that hustle harder than me
I'll wait... ♪

I am, um, sewing the dress together.

Since I'm making cutouts,
there's, like, 25, 30 pieces,

so I have to be really conscientious
of what I'm sewing together.

The key ingredient
to making cutouts look high-end

is construction,
construction, construction.

It has to be finished so well.

Cheap finishing instantly
makes you feel and look cheap.

I'm obsessed with fit,

so I'm just making sure that
all the pieces are interlocking together.

and taking a little bit of time
in doing each of the pieces.

because it was a trendy thing

but I wanted to elevate it
into a parachute windbreaker.

I'm trying to follow my design
that I created with the color concept.

I've been working on this for an hour,

trying to cut out
and put the puzzle pieces together,

but the orange, to me,
is not pleasing to the eye.

I'm not feeling this sh*t. It looks ugly.

-[Amari] What?
-[Deontré] I don't like the colorway.

-I wanna do something more solid. Mm.
-Go with your instincts.

It just isn't sitting well with me.

of how I can redesign this.

I don't want the gray and the blue
to mesh with the denim.

Yeah. I can incorporate the orange.
I still have some.

I could just add some detail into it.

in the right places,

it could be really fun.

but it doesn't feel like
a new enough interpretation.

working and improving.

with the '80s prom dress.

It's '80s, it's special,
but it's also very now.

because the first one, I made too small,

I'll work on trying to tweak the jacket.

I like the blue,
but Gigi wants to see a pop of color.

If the orange doesn't work,

and add something different to it.

I got the '90s,
so I'm reinventing, like, the overalls.

All right. I'm born in '91, so...

I'm '91 as well.

-[Amari] I have the 1960s.
-[model] I was born in the '60s.

-[Amari] For real?

[Amari] I'm guessing
everyone has their decades.

-[model] Yeah.
-Oh, is that an '80s baby?

-And you got the '70s.
-[model 2] Yeah.

-[Amari] You're a '50s baby?

Everybody has a model from their decade,
like, from '50s to '90s.

What better way
to bring these looks to life

than people that were born in that decade?

Oh, this fits you like a glove.

Goodness. Perfect.

-[Amari] Uh-oh. It's a bit snug.
-[tense music plays]

I was feeling good about my look,

but now that I'm putting it on the model,

there's definitely
some construction issues.

My skirt is too tight,
and the jacket is cropped a bit too much.

Let me take it out 'cause that side
looks way more flattering on you.

I don't want your side boob out.

The pressure is really on
in this part of the competition,

knowing that we're at the end.

I'm in trouble.

There's no room for mistakes.

I'm over here scared as hell.

The fit has to be perfect.

So I have darts in the back of the skirt,
so I'm just taking out the darts.

Taking it out
gives that extra space on each side.

[whirring]

-[Amari] How are you feeling? Good?
-[Bao] It's going okay.

It's just perfecting this poof.

It's, like, a whole technique to it.
I'm still figuring it out.

I've never done these poof tiers before,
and this fabric is all drapey,

and I don't want it to hang.
I want it to stand up and poof,

so I need to figure out
the perfect equation

of stiffening it
without making it look stiff

'cause it should still feel like a poof.

My expectations of what it needs to be
are pretty high in my head.

It's taking a lot longer
than I want it to,

but the closer I get to the end,

I can see the pot of gold,
and it fuels me.

It's game on.

This is the critical part. [chuckles]

[Desyrée] I'm feeling good about my look.
Once I make it past this,

there's only two challenges
between me and 200,000,

so I'm trying to lock it in.

[Nigel] Oh.

I'm gonna give it a new version
of a mock turtleneck.

This one, I wanna make, like, oversized

and feel like it's more slouchy.

I'm just finishing up this.

It also even plays with the story
of being from the '70s.

I feel like those little touches
are that chef's kiss at the end.

So you know the '50s.
I want the natural comb-over.

I want the eyes to almost kinda have,
like, a cat-look eye.

[Deontré] I just gotta piece this puzzle
together.

[Amari] Trying to finish my skirt.
I fixed the fitting issues,

but that took some time away
from my jacket, so that's not too good.

So I'm just trying
to finish my jacket now.

[Deontré] Just gotta figure out
what I'm gonna do with this jacket.

At this moment, there is no pop of color
on this windbreaker at all.

And I know that's the first thing
that Gigi's gonna pinpoint

and say, "Where's the color?"

So my crazy self is saying,
"Go sew the yellow on this jacket."

-[Deontré] It's so close to the end.

This is where it matters the most,

and I do not want to mess up
in the slightest way.

This parachute is so much.

[Bao] How does the sleeve feel on you?

This may come down when I put my arm down.

Okay.

Tan and I will be judging
the looks tonight,

but we will also be joined
by a very important part

of our Next in Fashionfamily.

A superb stylist
and a Voguecontributing editor,

she has orchestrated some
of the most amazing fashion photo shoots

in recent history.

consistently pushing the boundaries

of what fashion is today
and what it will be tomorrow.

the one and only Hailey Bieber!

[Amari] Hurry, hurry, hurry.

[Bao] I've got this great necklace

that I'm thinking
would look amazing with the dress.

If you were to have a chance
to design something for a specific decade,

which one would it be?

I would probably choose the '90s.

I'm a '90s baby,

and I feel like I look back on
all the actresses and actors of the '90s,

the films of the '90s,

and I just am so captured by that time.

[Amari] You've got this, girl.

[voice over PA]
Ninety seconds to the show.

-[Bao] Pull down here.
-[Nigel] Now walk. Walk.

[Bao] Yeah, yeah. Just make sure.

-[crowd cheering and whistling]
-Now for the reason you are all here.

Let the Everything Old Is New
runway begin!

[crowd cheering and whistling]

-[crowd cheers]
-[stage manager] We are ready.

-Oh wow!

-[Gigi] So this is the '50s.
-The coat is very '50s.

The pink on the coat buttons
against the pink. It was a nice touch.

-[Gabriella] Is that a shoelace as the...
-[Gigi] Yeah. That's really cool.

-[Gabriella] That's fab.
-[Gigi] And I like the raw hem.

But, besides those little details,
I feel like they're all pieces we've seen.

-[Tan] It's a little simple.
-[both] Yeah.

[Gigi] A leather jacket in 11 hours.

-[Tan] It is bananas.
-It's wild.

[funky music playing]

-[Gabriella] Ooh, okay.
-Yes!

-[crowd cheering]
-[Gabriella] Wow.

That's Miss Jackie Kennedy right there.

-[Gabriella] So we're in the '60s now.
-[Tan] This is the '60s.

The details she's added
has made it interesting.

-I love the strong shoulder, always do.
-I love the buttons.

I love the back of the jacket,
how it comes down on that collar.

[Tan] Me too. Her reference was Jackie O.

[Gabriella] The weave of this fabric
is so perfect for that time period.

[Hailey] Love that little hint of glitter.

-[judges] Yeah.
-[Hailey] It feels fresh.

[Gabriella] The jacket is so perfect
in terms of proportion,

but the fit of it is problematic.

If it was ex*cuted a little better,
I think we would be loving it.

Yeah.

-[Hailey] Love!
-Okay.

-[designers] Ooh!
-Hey, what you sayin'?

He gave us music festival,
which is so iconic.

-I love every single piece on there.
-[Gabriella] Yes. Yes.

And he keeps using male models,

and I'm like,
"You design for women too, Nigel."

-Yeah. His patchworking works so well.
-[Hailey] Right.

-Is it jean in the back?
-[Tan, Gigi] Yes.

-Wow. Amazing.
-[Gabriella] Fab.

[Gigi] And he patchworks
all of his textiles himself.

[Tan] He's used lace,
which is so not like him.

Like, he tried to give us
something appropriate for men and women.

-I am obsessed.
-That's major. This is so good.

And the bell-bottom is so '70s,

but he didn't make it
a costumey, jokey proportion.

-It's, like, really a perfect break.
-[Hailey] It's a hint.

-He's given us something really fresh.
-[crowd cheering]

['80s rock music playing]

-[Tan] Ooh!
-[Gabriella] Okay!

-Wow.
-[Hailey] Yes!

-[Amari] Woo!
-[Deontré] Showstopper!

This is quintessential '80s.

[Gigi] I run from '80s prom dresses.

This is an '80s prom dress
that could be sold a million times.

-This is a J.Lo '80s prom dress.
-[Gabriella] Absolutely.

[Gigi] I love that material.

I think it's, like, so fun and '80s
without looking cheap.

And the slits in the side are fun.
Like, it's very sexy. It's modern.

[Gigi] Yeah.

[Gabriella] You're getting a little close
in a certain region,

but, I mean,
it's supposed to be provocative, no?

-The construction looks perfect.
-She always delivers on construction.

[crowd cheering and whistling]

-[Amari] Woo!
-Okay, D!

-[Tan] Ooh!
-[Gabriella] Okay.

-[Hailey] Oh.
-[Gabriella] Ooh! Drama.

I feel a little disappointed.
It's definitely modern.

I think it could've
pushed the envelope more.

I do like that square top.

I think that's probably
the most modern detail about it.

[Tan] As far as overalls go, you wouldn't
just buy this at a store today.

He's considered the cutouts.
The shape of the body is flattering.

It's two-tone.
I don't think he went contrast enough.

-You can't really...
-I see it now you point it out.

It's really flat on the runway.
I think he should've gone more contrast.

[crowd cheering]

[Tan] Hello.

Desyrée, I would love
to introduce you to Hailey.

Hi. So nice to meet you.

Nice to meet you as well.

So the decade I chose was the 1950s,

and the garment I chose to highlight
was the biker jacket.

I liked the pants the most.

I know that wasn't the piece
that you were aiming to highlight,

but I thought everything together
was ex*cuted really well.

Definitely the fit of everything
stood out to me,

and that can be really hard to do.

Oh, thank you.

I love the pink pant.

I love the fabric that you used.
I love the color.

The fit is fantastic.

The jacket, I like.

I don't know if it was pushed enough
to make it seem completely new.

I know the color is new.

It didn't feel like
a new enough interpretation.

-I wish you had pushed it even further.
-Gotcha. Gotcha.

The throwaway piece,
honestly, Des, was the coat.

The fabric didn't feel luxe enough.

Gotcha.

A leather jacket is also
always gonna be in everyone's closet,

in every department store,

so when you commit to that being the piece
where you're gonna tell your story,

you have to find a way to spin it,

and I'm not sure you fully landed
on a completely novel concept.

But I really commend you for sewing
a leather moto jacket in 11 hours.

-It's my first time ever.
-Really?

It's finished beautifully.
You should be proud.

[Amari] So I did the 1960s,
and I referenced the two-piece suit.

I was inspired by Jackie O.

So I'm giving First Lady tease.

Ooh.

I haven't made a suit before,

so this is a first for me to do something
with a collar and some buttons.

Stepping out of my comfort zone.

I do love that you decided
to go mini and cropped.

I think it makes it very modern.

My least favorite part about it
would have to be

that it feels unfinished and undone,
especially in the jacket.

Okay.

The bottom of that jacket
is something that you have to work on.

But I love that collar
that goes all the way down the back.

I wish that you had given
a little bit more fabric to that bow tie

so that it could have felt purposeful.

We really need to focus on finishings

and making sure
you're fully executing the look.

You don't wanna lose the competition
because of finishings.

-Agree.
-[Tan] Good.

So my decade was the '70s,
and I wanted to innovate the bell-bottom.

With that, I wanted to kinda extend it,
bring in a cuff,

and then also adding slouch pockets,
the drawstring,

to make it a little more relaxed,

and then bring in my fabrications.

Each thing on its own is super wearable,

but then even as a whole,

it all flows well together
and makes a lot of sense,

so job well done, for sure.

It is really incredible
how much it comes across

that, like, this technique and fabrication
is something that must be special to you.

I mean, it is really hard
to find a new take on a bell-bottom.

I don't think I've seen that pant before,
and that's huge, a huge feat.

Thank all of y'all. Y'all... Oh, man.

You had said
you were gonna give us a chevron.

It's not a chevron.
I wish you'd made that more prominent.

I loved that you used lace,
but I think you're playing it too safe.

This could have been an absolute slam dunk
if you'd shown it on a woman.

Your clothes work for everyone.

Stop boxing yourself in.

Gonna take y'all's feedback.
I need to switch it up,

you know,
and experiment a little bit more.

My decade is the '80s,
and the reference was 1980s prom dress.

Bao, beautifully constructed dress.

I think that it speaks so much
to your inspiration for this challenge

and also speaks so much
to you as a designer.

I can see
that that is a Bao dress, period.

It is a chic, fun, cool take
on an '80s dress,

but I think you can do less
with the hair and makeup

and let your designs shine for themselves.

You don't want the hair and makeup
to make it costumey.

So just be able to edit yourself
with the glam a bit more.

I was just having fun with the '80s.

This dress, I could see it selling out,
every girl wanting it for their prom.

You did such a good job at treading
the lines of the past and the present.

Bao, you gave us a master class
in how to make a woman feel hot.

You've used the right fabric.
You've draped the top beautifully.

You've offered us construction
on a shoulder that is unique

and not easy to do.

It's so beautifully done, Bao.
You should be so proud of yourself.

I chose the '90s,

and I wanted to reimagine the overalls
and bring it to the future world.

I love the two-tone denim and stuff.

Make it in my way.

I do love the overalls reference.

I really liked the... the snaps,
and I did really like the jacket.

I thought it was dramatic.
It brought a cool drama to it.

And I love the windbreaker material
as a reference to the '90s.

You did reference the two-tone
of the denim.

I couldn't even see the two-tone
of the denim.

It might've been more of a pop
if you had more contrast of the denim

because these two are super close.

I will say, the throwaway piece
for me, Deontré, is the jacket.

It just looked like a big piece of fabric.
It almost gave me graduation gown.

Gotcha.

I think if the whole parachute
was something that popped,

it would've made more sense
than another blue being added in there.

The look needs it

so that it doesn't all feel like
different colors of blue and some gray.

But I really love these overalls.

I think they're really fresh
and a new take on that.

Deontré, you seem really, uh, down.

You know when you have a vision
and wanna bring it to life?

I was sketching it out
in the colors I was using with my markers,

and I got to the fabric,
and it just wasn't matching up.

It kind of, like... I felt defeated,
like, "Oh my gosh."

Like, I wanna bring this to life
so I can wow you guys.

[voice breaking] Being who I am,
coming from where I come from,

it's like, I don't wanna go back
to my old life.

[crying] I wanna do what I love to do,

and that's be free and create,

and I can't do that back at home,
so I wanna be here to make it to the end.

-[emotional music playing]
-To show you guys what I'm capable of.

[sniffs]

[exhales, sniffs]

-Sorry.
-[Gigi] No, don't be sorry. You're fine.

[Deontré] Thank you.

I wanted to come into this competition
to be an inspiration to young boys

who dream of not kinda
putting theirself in a box

and being different,

but right now I'm just envisioning
this opportunity walking away from me.

[sniffs]

He just has to believe in his talent
at the end of the day

'cause he's obviously talented.

[Deontré] I know what I'm capable of,

and I think
that's what's eating me up inside,

is that I know
that I could produce so much better

and I just feel like I let myself down.

[emotional music continues]

[sobbing]

It's so hard
'cause there are five great looks,

and we just have to pick the least great,

which is sad.

[Tan] Yeah, and they've grown
so much as designers.

Ugh, it sucks.
I don't know how you guys do this.

[Tan] '50s was Desyrée.

She gave us the full pink number
with a black overcoat.

I think that
it was actually well ex*cuted.

I'm not sure that it's unique.

We all already have a version of it.

Exactly, but the pants, I did think
were constructed really well.

I think that's what's unfortunate,
is our favorite piece, for the majority,

was the pants,

and that wasn't supposed
to be the highlighted piece.

I think the jacket
should've carried the look.

Yeah. Okay, then we have the '60s.

Amari. She gave us
a sexy, modern version of a Jackie O suit.

The concept was pretty strong.

However, the construction
is absolutely not where it needs to be.

[Gigi] '70s Nigel, I think,
was a favorite for all of us.

I knew it was Nigel's work.
It was so clearly '70s,

but still very much wearable today.

-That is very difficult to do.
-Absolutely.

[Gigi] All right, take us to prom.

-'80s Bao.
-[Tan] '80s Bao. [laughs]

It's a beautifully made dress.
It's so on the nose with this challenge.

It fits perfectly.

You could take that off and sell it
to a million girls that wanna go to prom.

All right, onto the '90s.

Maybe on the runway, it didn't pop,

but closer up,
Deontré's work had the details,

it had the reimagining
and the reinvention.

I just didn't feel the connection
to the decade in Deontré's work,

and that's something that's hard for me.

I feel so bad!

Thankfully only one person
needs to go home.

-It's so hard.
-I know.

this decision
was beyond difficult to make.

You have all come so far as designers
in this short period of time.

It came down to small details
to decide who stays and who goes.
