02x02 - Body by Cake

Post by bunniefuu »

[upbeat music plays]

How are you guys?

-Oh, what up?
-[laughter]

-[Mikey] Sorry. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
-Whoo!

-[man] Good job, Mikey.
-It's all good, dude.

[laughter]

[groans]

[laughter]

Sorry, let me put the incline down.
It was at max.

-Whoo!
-[laughter]

[groans] What's up, bakers?

-How you doing?
-What's up?

The theme of this episode is the gym.

[cheering and applause]

Dude, Kayla, your shirt, "Body by Cake."

-It's always appropriate.
-Yeah.

-I know!
-Ready to find out what you're baking?

-Yes!
-So excited.

Let's play Find That Cake!

[contestants cheering]

-[upbeat drum rhythm]
-[applause]

All right, bakers,
when the cake wall spins around,

you will see six items
you'd find in a gym.

Five of them are real
and one of them is cake.

-Oh my God.
-What the heck?

You will have 20 seconds
to lock in your answer.

Your 20 seconds starts now.

-[tense music playing]
-[timer beeping]

[Spirit] This is nuts.

[Mikey] Remember,
there's only one cake up there.

Ten seconds, bakers.

[man] Whoo-hoo-hoo.

Ah, crap.

[Mikey] Five seconds.

Three, two, one.

-Time's up!
-[bell dings]

Who needs a knife when you have...

[Spirit] Really?

-[woman] Oh my gosh.
-Spiked...

-...brass knuckles.
-[Spirit] That's real good.

-Knuckle-dusters.
-Elizabeth, what did you call these?

Knuckle-dusters.

Knuckle-guzzlers?

-Oh my, you butchered that one!
-[laughter]

-What'd you say?
-Knuckle-dusters.

[Mikey] Wow.

[in British accent] We ran into a couple
of knuckle-guzzlers at the pub.

[laughter]

-Ready to find some cake?
-[all] Yes.

J-J-J-J-J-J-Justin.

You picked

Number Six.

[Justin] I did. I did.

-[Mikey] You don't seem confident.
-No, not at all. No.

Why'd you pick Number Six?

I noticed the black lines
were a little bit askew,

which made me believe
that they were handmade.

Compared to Two,
it looks completely different,

so I went with my gut,
and my gut feels sick.

-[Mikey] And your gut said Six.
-[laughter]

All right, time for a gut check, Justin.
Let's see if you were right, friend.

-[bell dings]
-[dramatic brass music plays]

-[bell dings]
-Oh!

-[contestants] Oh! Oh!
-[Mikey chuckles]

That was cool.

[woman] Wow.

Not cake, but it sticks to the pole.

-[laughter]
-Okay. I tried.

[Spirit] Sure does.

-Okay, Spirit.
-Yes.

You knew right away which one you wanted.

-Yes.
-[Mikey] What number did you pick?

-Number Four.
-Why is that?

Easy call. The bottom has creases,
it didn't move as much as the rest of 'em.

-Justin, that's a burn, dude.
-[laughter]

I feel burnt.

-I'm very confident. Like, seriously.
-I know.

Anyone else as confident as Spirit?

-Yes.
-Oh!

-Oh!
-I picked it too.

Of course knuckle-dusters is confident.

I'm also confident.

[laughter]

-[Mikey] Kayla?
-I picked Four. It's gotta be Four.

On a level of one to Spirit,
how confident are you?

Well, I can't...

All right, Spirit,
let's see if this is cake.

Hoo-hoo!

[dramatic music plays]

[cheering]

Yeah!

Oh!

[laughter]

That's cake!

[woman] Yes!

Spirit, congrats.
Your confidence paid off.

You found the cake the fastest,
which means you get first pick

when we play Is It Cake?

[upbeat drum rhythm plays]

[applause]

Let's see your options.

[contestants cheering]

[woman] Oh, no!

Each of you will choose a gym item
that you will make into a cake.

Your job is to try and fool the judges
that we have invited to spot your fakes.

-Remember, guys, you only get one decoy.
-They're all hard.

Spirit, you found the cake the fastest,
so you are up first.

-What's it gonna be?
-The kettlebells.

[applause and cheering]

So you think you can easily make these
out of cake? Is that what you're saying?

-Yes. Yes.
-[laughs]

-[Mikey] I love the confidence.
-Yeah.

Our second-fastest baker was

-Kayla!
-[cheering and applause]

What's it gonna be?

I want the big thing.

-No!
-[Kayla] I want it.

What?!

-Mm-hmm.
-[woman] Wow.

-You picked a UFO from a Pixar movie?
-[laughter]

Yay!

It's a BOSU ball.

Yes, I want that.

Now, to find out who's third.

Johnny Utah. I'm talking Pete!

-Whoo!
-[cheering and applause]

-What are you gonna go with?
-Boxing gloves.

-[Mikey] Wow.
-[woman] Yeah!

[applause]

-Why boxing gloves?
-I've never done 'em before.

-[Mikey] You haven't?
-I've never done a boxing glove cake.

-So here we go. Let's do it.
-[Mikey] Interesting.

All right, Elizabeth, it's time
for the knuckle-buster to choose.

-Oh, it's so hard.
-[Mikey] Tick-tock, Elizabeth.

Okay, I'm gonna go with the... roll mats.

-No!
-Oh my God.

[Elizabeth] I know!

It sounded like Miko was watching
a horror movie. "Oh my God!"

[laughter]

Okay, the yoga mat and yoga blocks.

Last but not least, Justin.
What's your pick, buddy?

Give me the duffle bag.

-[contestants] Yeah!
-[Mickey] You get a duffle bag!

Remember, one of you will be eliminated,

but four of you will move on,

getting one step closer to being crowned
the Is It Cake? champion.

Yeah!

Okay, bakers, you have eight hours
to complete your cakes.

-What?
-It's time to bake! Go!

[fast-paced music playing]

All righty.

I need buttermilk. Is that a thing here?

I was just watching this show on TV
and now I'm here.

-Isn't that wild? It's intense.
-This is actually happening.

People would describe me
as a little playful.

I feel like I'm on a dating app.
I like long walks on the beach.

I am a cake artist and a content creator.

The majority of my day is creating cakes
that look like other things.

I want this cake to go "pow!"

It is.

Boom!

For my duffle bag,
I'm gonna make a chocolate cake

with mocha buttercream
and cookie crumbles.

Also, I'm gonna be adding hot coffee
to my batter,

which is gonna intensify the chocolate
and make it super rich and yummy.

I'm calling it
the Mocha Cookie Crumble Crunch.

The goal is to make
as much batter as possible,

because I've got this many freaking pans.

This is probably one of the most
behemoth-sized cakes in my career.

If I don't have enough cake,

then I run the risk of it not looking
as big as the duffle bag decoy.

I think we all agree,
in this kitchen, size does matter.

Justin, are you freaked out
to make so much cake?

I'm getting freaked out.

Yeah. I'm trying to keep it cool,
but I'm also like... [groans]

I think, like, yours, mine,
and Kayla's are harder

because it's so much bigger.

-[Justin] Yeah.
-I feel like I'm just a factory of cake.

A factory of ganache.

I am Louisiana pride all the way,

and I've been doing hyper-realistic cakes
probably about a year now.

I've made a rack of ribs.

I've made a realistic pretzel.
A jumbo hamburger.

And seeing the dome part of the BOSU ball,

it really makes me think
of this Superdome cake

that I have made a couple of times before.

I'm like, "I can do this."

What are you gonna do
to make your chocolate cake stand out?

[Kayla] I'm doing
edible cookie dough filling,

but it's gonna be
a protein shake cookie dough.

Ooh.

So it's a chocolate protein shake cake
for the gym theme.

I am baking a chocolate cake

with a protein powder
cookie dough filling.

I hope there's some fitness judges,

maybe to show some appreciation for that
whole protein powder risk that I'm taking.

Someone gave me a sample once.

It's a protein powder.
You can bake with it.

I was so excited. I tried it. Bleurgh.

[laughs]

-Hey, Elizabeth.
-[Elizabeth] Yeah?

-Where'd you say you were from?
-[chuckles]

-Texas. You couldn't tell?
-Texas. Well, originally from?

-[laughs] Originally from England.
-From England.

Have you got a Southern accent down?

It's terrible. It's like
a British-Texas monstrosity.

Hey, y'all. I'm fixing
to make some chocolate cake.

-It's terrible.
-Yeehaw!

[Elizabeth]
Realistic cakes that I've done.

T. rex, a mini jukebox,

a fried chicken sandwich.

Probably one of my personal favorites,

a zombie clown.

I guess, like, creepy cakes
is one of my favorite subjects to work on.

If someone's like, "I want a scary cake,"
I'm like, "I got you."

Elizabeth, what kind of cake
are you making?

I thought it would be funny
to go with one of my most popular sellers,

which is a chocolate beer cake.

Girl! I love a cake with beer.

[Elizabeth] Right?

Instead of something healthy
like you get at the gym,

I'm going for the opposite.

I'm gonna be putting beer
in my yoga mat cake.

So I'm gonna be doing
a chocolate milk stout cake

with a salted caramel buttercream
and a caramel drizzle.

I need one more beer.

For this round.

-Hey, Pete, what flavor are you doing?
-I'm doing a chocolate brownie cake.

-[Elizabeth] Nice.
-[Justin] I'm doing chocolate cake.

-[Kayla] I'm doing chocolate cake.
-I'm doing chocolate cake!

Oh my God,
the battle of the chocolate cakes!

-I know.
-[bell dings]

[Pete] Decorating cakes
first started with me

when I worked at my brother's deli.

We had chocolate mousse cake
that we would make,

and I fell in love with being able
to make something for a customer

and make their day.

[Elizabeth] I want to see
your boxing gloves.

-I know.
-They're gonna be fun!

The detail on that. And the symmetry.

The creases and stuff on there. The shine.

I am known for the cakes that I've done
for corporate companies in Utah.

Grill cakes, some chair cakes,
some airplane cakes.

Doing realistic cakes
allows me to be Pete and be a baker.

I'm doing a different filling
on each boxing glove.

I'm making two cakes.

One chocolate brownie cake

with toasted coconut
peanut butter Italian buttercream,

and one with cookie butter
and honey Italian buttercream.

And I can get the judges
with two different punches of flavor.

Oh, so beautiful.

[Kayla] I like it here.
This is so organized.

Ooh.

Oh my God. Is Spirit gonna have to bake
in those shoes?

[Danya] I know. She is, like, k*ller.

Some of the people
that I've made cakes for

have been Vivica Fox,
DJ Khaled, to Puff Daddy.

Although people wanna call me
a celebrity baker,

honestly, I put the same time and effort
into everyone's cakes.

I like to me make everybody
feel like a celebrity.

So, Spirit, tell me about your family.

Well, my babies.
I have two loves of my life.

They are my reason and my why.

Indeed.

I grew up in the foster care system,

so now that I'm a mother,
I'm a very proud mother.

I give them everything
that I did not have.

I'm very proud of my children.
And honestly, I'm proud of myself.

My son, he's a lot like me.

I'm like, "Jrai, do you like this cake?"
He'd be like, "It's cool." You know?

My daughter knows
how to rub me the right way.

My son keeps me in check, though.

For my flavors today,
I'm channeling my babies.

The smaller one, I'm going to do
my son's favorite cake flavor,

which is a vanilla and chocolate swirl
marble cake

with a chocolate ganache
and a cookie butter filling.

And for the larger kettlebell,

I'm going to do a vanilla cake

with a cookie butter filling,

topped with a meringue buttercream
and cookie crumbles.

All right, last of my cake going in.

Oh my gosh.

Hi, bakers.

-Hi.
-Hey, Mikey!

I've got decoys.

[cheering]

Come on up. Remember, you only get one,
so it's a big decision.

[Pete] There's some that are different.

[Justin] Yeah, you got some variety
to choose from.

So many different textures.

Having one decoy
makes it really, really difficult.

You literally only have two choices,

so you're a 50/50 of getting picked
just right out of the gate.

Choices, choices.

[Kayla] Seeing it up close, I'm like,
"I'm gonna need way more cake."

-[Pete] This is gonna be so fun.
-The cakes we've lifted in our careers...

-Where's the muscle?
-[Kayla] It's all in the core.

You're right. Underneath here,
I just got a sick six-pack.

[laughter]

[Kayla] It's looking good over there.

Your bag looks incredible.

-You guys are amazing. Thank you.
-Looks so good.

Cake baking, to me,

is a savior in a way that I don't think
I ever anticipated it to be.

[Pete] That looks so dope.

-Pete, you're making me feel so good.
-It looks so good!

At 15, I was struggling
with kidney failure,

and I mainly coped with it

by locking myself in my room
and watching cake decorating videos.

We figured out my mom was a match,

and it's been ten years

of kidney life going on inside my body
with my mom's help.

I've been pursuing that happiness that
sort of got me out of that rut ever since.

So it was...

It's everything to me.

There's nothing more lovable
than a comeback story.

Hello.

Bakers, four hours remain.

Four hours.

You guys can do it. I believe in you!

-[Liz] Come on, guys. Come on.
-[Mikey] Let's do this.

In order to get, like,
my ends of my mat perfect,

I'm gonna use molding putty
to actually mold the ends of my yoga mat,

because that way, I know they'll be exact,

I know they'll look
just like the real thing,

and it also saves so much time.

There we go. You got this.

[Kayla] Are you kidding me?

This molding stuff...

-[Pete] Is that working?
-No, it didn't set up.

I gave it two hours, and it's going
into my modeling chocolate.

Oh my gosh, this is horrible.

This is the one detail that signifies
that, yeah, this is a BOSU ball.

So I decide to take the modeling chocolate

and I just press it down
onto the actual BOSU ball itself.

And when I lift it up,
it gives me the same pattern.

Now it's an inverted pattern,

but at this point, I just need any pattern
to make it onto this cake.

Oh my God. This cake is a nightmare.

Three hours left, bakers. Three hours.

[Pete] Looking good.

Thank you. Spheres suck in the cake world.

-It's so difficult.
-[Pete] Yeah, it is.

[Spirit] In order to cover
a sphere properly,

I'm using modeling chocolate
because I'm gonna have to manipulate

certain parts of the ball.

I leave the creases on the side,
so you're covering the sphere,

and then I cut down the sides.

I don't really have room
for too many imperfections,

because it has to be a perfect sphere.

So I have to make sure
I seal those imperfections

so it's just really clean and seamless.

Whoever's talking about,
"She had an easy cake," no.

This is a sphere. Two spheres.

[Pete] None of these cakes are easy.

[Spirit] You're doing amazing, though.
Oh my gosh.

This is the point when I look at my cake
and I'm like, "All right, we got this."

-Do you mind if I use this?
-Super red? That super red is awesome.

-[Pete] I need to get this color right.
-[Spirit] Yeah.

[Pete] And then I'm ready
to start on all the details.

[Spirit] Nice.

Right down to the wire.

To get things the right color
is tough stuff,

because you never know how a certain color

is going to interact
with a certain product.

Looks good.
His color is, like, exactly the same.

-[Liz] Pete.
-[Pete] What's up?

-[Liz] Did you mix that red color?
-[Pete] Yeah.

-It is spot-on.
-Thank you. Thank you, thank you.

-You pleased with it, Justin?
-[Justin] Yeah.

Like any person I ever dated,
I'm beginning to like them.

-[Elizabeth] They're growing on me.
-[Justin laughs] Yeah.

I'm not going to be creating straps
that look identical to my decoy.

I'm gonna be doing straps that look just
a bit wider and a little bit different,

just to confuse them.

Mind games.

[Elizabeth] Looks good!

[Mikey] Two hours, bakers.

My calves already hurt.

Can I get a jump in?

-[Mikey] You wanna jump?
-Yeah.

-Oh my God, yes.
-Corterrius!

Go, Cort!

Woo-hoo!

Go, Corty. Go, Corty.

Ladies and gentlemen, if interested,

Corterrius will be going
on the mini-tr*mp.

-Yay! Oh my God, I'm so excited.
-Do a front flip!

Let's go!

-One, two...
-[cheering]

-...three, four!
-[laughter]

Yeah!

-[Danya] Wow. Nice, nice, nice.
-Ah!

-How you feel?
-[Danya] Love it.

I feel good. I just lost a pound.

[laughter]

[Elizabeth] All the yoga mats have,
like, a texture on the outside.

The texture's gonna be a dead giveaway.

I decide to use a rubber non-slip mat.

It has, like, a repetitive texture

that looks almost like a grid
when I push it into modeling chocolate.

I'm loving the way this texture looks.
It looks perfect.

Just like a real yoga mat.

But covering my roll mat, I need
to make sure that I'm really careful.

I've got no way to hide anything.

I don't have ripples in fabric,
like Pete has with his boxing gloves.

I can't risk any imperfections.

[Liz] Elizabeth, that looks so good.

-It really does. It looks like a yoga mat.
-[Elizabeth] Thank you!

One hour, bakers.

One hour left.

This burns. Hope it's worth it.

You should probably
go to a doctor for that. [chuckles]

[Kayla] So much time has been spent
on the silicone mold issue

that now I have, like, no time left

for the other items
that belong on this cake.

So I take some black modeling chocolate

and I slap it on
as the base of the BOSU ball.

I'm, like, actually getting worried now.

Thirty minutes, bakers.

You have to have your cakes
and your decoys ready.

Let's go!

[Pete] I need to make sure

that there's the illusion
that these gloves are hollow inside

so you could put your hands in them.

So I'm adding cuffs

and making sure that the different angles
and the different creases look good.

[Corterrius] Is that a real glove
on Pete's station or...?

-[Miko] I think it is.
-[Liz] I think it is.

-The ones on the board are the real ones.
-[Danya] Looks good.

I want to win Is It Cake? so bad

because I just closed up
my second bakery location.

I was in a situation where I didn't
really know what I was gonna do,

and it was really tough on my family.

I want to be able to show my kids

that even if things don't work out
the way that you want them to,

you can still make the best of things.

Being able to showcase my talents
and win some money

is just a huge thing.

It's a dream come true.

Let's do this.

[fast-paced music playing]

Doesn't matter how perfect,
it's up to the judges.

The smaller one is a bit more intricate
because of the texture on it,

so I ball up a piece of foil

and squeeze it up against it,
trying to get its texture,

but modeling chocolate
is very manipulative,

so when you try to smooth it out,
it loses the textures.

I'm like, "Do what I'm asking you to do."

Nothing else I can do.

Ten minutes, bakers.

Get those finishing touches on.

Ten minutes.

We've got some exciting judges.

Heiress Wilhelmina Bosu,

philanthropist and inventor
of the BOSU ball, will be on the panel.

-Is that a true fact?
-No.

-Oh.
-Can you imagine?

I was like, "I need this for Jeopardy."

[spraying]

I'm frantically rushing
to finish the yoga block.

And it takes time to do this.

I need to make sure that I don't forgo
the cleanliness of the blocks,

because if they're all janky
and, like, wobbly,

the judges are gonna be like,
"That's definitely cake,

because I've never seen
a yoga block go... before."

One minute left!

-[fast-paced music playing]
-They're running. They're freaking out.

I love it.

[exhales]

Drama, fear, panic.

I feed on it.

Forty-five seconds!

-Body by cake. Body by cake.
-[Kayla] Literally.

I told you this is not easy.

[Mikey] The smell of chocolate
being tempered in spray paint.

It could only be Is It Cake?

Fifteen seconds.

Fifteen seconds is not enough.

[fast-paced music continues]

[Mikey] Five,

four,

three,

two,

one.

Buzzer! Time's up.

[cheering and applause]

-[Miko] Good job, guys.
-I'm proud of you all.

Next time I see you,
it'll be in front of the judges.

Put on your knuckle-guzzlers.
It's go time.

[applause]

[dramatic music plays]

Bakers, you've been working
on your cakes for hours,

hoping to fake out today's judges

for the chance at winning up to $10,000,

and moving forward
towards the Is It Cake? finale.

So let's meet the people
in charge of your destiny.

He's an actor who starred
in Crazy Rich Asians and Superstore,

Nico Santos!

-[cheering and applause]
-Thank you.

-Standing ovation from the gallery.
-[laughing]

I hear you're an outspoken cake purist.

I am a little bit of a purist
when it comes to cakes.

I think cakes should look like cakes,

just as God intended.

[laughter]8

Actor, comedian, host, producer,

Joel McHale!

-Thank you.
-[cheering and applause]

You are much more handsome in person.

[contestants] Ooh!

I don't know if it's the lighting, but...

♪ Spirit likes Joel ♪

-You're my favorite. You win.
-[laughter]

She's the host of Dance 100 for Netflix,

everyone's favorite Peloton instructor,

and an all-around boss,

The Cake GOAT got a crush. Call me.

-[contestants] Oh!
-[laughter]

[Mikey] I was told,

as a child, you wanted to be
a professional cake tester?

-Yes.
-Aww!

I have a refined palate for great cake.

I have an innate ability to taste cake
and see if it's good?

Yeah.

[laughter]

[Mikey] Judges,
here's what's going to happen.

Over the course of two spins,

you're going to try and find five cakes,

and ultimately decide today's winner

and which baker
is eliminated from the competition.

And today, the theme is the gym.

-Ally...
-Really?

I feel like
you're uniquely qualified for this.

I'm not gonna know.

[laughter]

It's all right, buddy.

[Mikey] For the first spin,
we have Spirit, Kayla, and Pete.

-Whoo!
-[applause]

We are going to give you 30 seconds
to find three cakes

and lock in your answers
on the keypad in front of Joel.

All right, cake wall, spin.

Okay, judges, remember,
there are three cakes out there,

so let's see if you can find them.

Your time starts now!

[tense music playing]

-Okay.
-What do you got?

[Nico] Wait, what?

[Ally] Okay, definitely Number One is a...
It looks too saggy.

[Nico] It's not as shiny,
that's the thing.

[Joel] The red one's
a little bit misshapen.

-Number One. Number Two is too perfect.
-Yeah.

[Mikey] Twenty seconds.

-[Ally] Those boxing gloves are genius.
-[Joel] Yeah.

Number Three looks like a dead lobster,
and Number Four looks more puffy.

[Ally] I don't know if that defines
if it's a cake or not.

-[Nico] Three is a little deflated.
-Three looks fake to me.

-[Nico] Five and Six, the shape...
-[Ally] BOSU ball...

[Mikey] Ten seconds.

Wait, this is not... Okay, this is tough.

-[Joel] Number Six is a... It's shiny.
-The grooves on Six means it's real.

[Joel] I also think on Five,
the handle is a little bit too wavy.

-Five seconds, judges.
-Give us more time!

-Lock in your answers!
-[Joel] Give me some time!

-[Mikey] Three, two, one!
-[timer beeping]

Time's up!

[cheering and applause]

[Mikey] Wow!

The cake got in your heads, didn't it?

-[Elizabeth] Insane.
-[Mikey] How we feeling?

I'm feeling not as confident anymore.

This is a lot harder
than I thought it was gonna be.

[laughter]

Okay, judges, let's start with Spirit.
You picked Number One.

Well, Two is so much more shiny.
That's why we were...

I don't think it's the shine.
I think it's the base.

The base should be a little smaller.

And I might know
a thing or two about them.

Whoa!

Expert.

Okay, Spirit, if this is cake,
you will be up for elimination.

If it is not, you will be up for the win.

No matter what happens, Spirit,
we love you.

You might not be that fine.

[contestants] Oh!

-Stop flirting, you guys!
-I'm no longer flirting.

All right, let's find out. Is it cake?

[tense music playing]

[clears throat]

[woman groaning]

[contestants] Oh!

[Joel] Looks beautiful, though.

[applause]

It's cake.

[Kayla] It was so good!

I'm sorry, Spirit,
the judges found your cake,

which means you are up
for elimination today,

but you did an incredible job.

-Well done.
-[cheering and applause]

So, judges, your suspicions were correct.

-Yeah
-[Ally grunts]

[Mikey] Let's go to Pete.

You guys picked Three. Why?

[Joel] If you look at Four,

the opening of the glove,
it's a little more full,

and that one has dropped a little bit.

So I think that is the behavior of fabric
and not cake.

A boxing glove needs to protect the hand,

and I feel Number Three is just
a little smaller for an adult-size hand.

-Maybe they're children's boxing gloves?
-Could be children's.

Pete, let's find out if this is cake.

[tense music playing]

-[Mikey] Oh, that just went right through.
-[contestants] Ohh.

[Mikey] It's cake!

I'm sorry, buddy.

Unfortunately, that means
you are up for elimination today,

along with Spirit.

How are we feeling?

I was very pleased
with how I ex*cuted them.

That back cuff area, though,
I can see exactly why that stood out.

So if I could've just made it

just a little more arched up,
probably would have helped a lot.

[Mikey] Right. But this cake was amazing.

So well done, my friend. Incredible.

[applause]

-Let's move on to Kayla.
-Whoo!

-You picked Number Five.
-[Ally] Yes.

Why?

[Nico] For me, it's the cord.
The way it drapes.

[Ally] Resistance band.

-Yeah, thank you, exercise person.
-[laughter]

This is the hardest one for me, because
I see Number Six and it's much shinier,

and then I was like,
"Are BOSUs kind of a matte color?"

And I think they can be.

My first instinct was Five was cake,
but I really don't know.

Got it.

It was the base.

The even base on Six shows that
it's a stability ball, so it's stable.

The unevenness of the base on Five was
the giveaway for me. It didn't look as...

If I stood on that,

I think I'd figure out it was cake
really quickly because of the base.

But, Ally, if you stood on any of these,
you'd figure it out real quick.

-[laughter]
-Okay, Kayla.

[tense music playing]

Is it cake?

Ah!

-[Mikey] Oh, wait.
-[contestants] Ohh.

I think that's cake!

[applause]

No!

It's cake, Kayla.

I'm sorry, that means
you're up for elimination

alongside Pete and Spirit.

Well done, Kayla.

This was an incredible cake,

-as I clap with a knife.
-[Liz] Yes! Good job!

-Whoo!
-[applause]

Mikey, on behalf of the judges,

I'd like to apologize
for being so good at our jobs.

[Mikey] Too good.

All right, we have cakes
from Elizabeth and Justin now.

Whoo!

[applause]

Now, it's possible
you might find all five of the cakes,

which has never happened before,
so this is getting exciting.

In which case, do they all get eliminated?

-Really? I thought we had a moment.
-[Mikey] Whew!

Don't get too c*ck.

All right, here we go. Cake wall, spin.

Elizabeth made a yoga mat and yoga blocks,

and Justin made a gym bag
with a water bottle.

Judges, remember,
two of the objects are real,

-and two are fakes made of cake.
-[Liz] Oh my God!

You have 20 seconds
to lock in your answers.

Your time starts now!

[timer beeping]

[Ally] Okay, so...

[Joel] One is much bigger
than the Two mat.

[Ally] I feel like Number One
intentionally has that bump.

Number Two, the block
is a little wider at the base.

-That's throwing me off a little bit.
-[Nico] I think...

I think Two is cake, because of the hump
in one of the blocks.

-[Ally] Okay.
-Ten seconds.

[Ally] What about Three and Four?

-[Nico] I'm going with Three.
-[Joel] I think Three too.

-[Ally] I think it's smaller and...
-[Nico] The striping.

The striping?

-[Nico] The little stripe.
-[Ally] What's up with the stripe?

-[Joel] The stripes look good.
-Lock in those answers.

-Three, two, one.
-Give us more time!

-Just hold on!
-[Mikey] Time's up!

Ah!

-Whoo!
-[applause]

-Now that was a workout.
-[laughter]

-[Mikey] How are we feeling?
-[Ally] I'm feeling okay.

Let's see how you did.
We will start with Elizabeth.

-Yes.
-[Mikey] You guys picked Number Two.

What made you think this was cake?

The yoga block's base was a little wider,
so there was some unevenness.

And if you rolled out that yoga mat,
it would be very, very thin.

I don't know really what a yoga mat
looks like. I know it's a mat.

-Don't know what a yoga mat looks like?
-I know it's a mat!

To me, Number One looks like
the longest yoga mat in history,

but that's why Number Two seems like cake,
because it is so well done.

I think there was a trickeroo in my brain.

I'm like, "It's gotta be Two
because Number One looks ridiculous."

Okay, let's find out, Elizabeth.

[tense music playing]

-I don't want to be right.
-But I don't want to be wrong.

-Exactly.
-Competitive.

[tense music continues]

-[Mikey] Oh, wow.
-[contestants] Oh!

[Mikey] That is cake!

Sorry, Elizabeth, that means
you are up for elimination today

alongside Spirit, Kayla, and Pete.

We feel terrible. We nailed it again.

Yes.

I'm gonna do the yoga mat as well.

Wow.

Oh, that's beautiful.
Look at that. I did...

[all] Oh!

That was the worst cut ever!

This is incredible.
So, well done, Elizabeth.

-[Nico] Good job.
-Thank you.

[applause]

Now we can move on to Justin.

It all comes down to you, buddy.

Please stop the judges.

[laughter]

Now, judges, you picked Number Three.

Why did you think this is cake?

For me, it was the striping.
Like, Number Four just looks more real.

[Mikey] Uh-oh. Ally's gonna go,

"Well, normally, gym bags,
the way they are constructed..."

I think this one was really hard for me.

The only thing that my eye caught
was the hooks where the straps go into.

There weren't any on bag number three,
but there were on bag number four.

Joel?

The top of the water bottle
meeting that plastic there

seems to be
just not as perfectly consistent

as the water bottle on Number Four.

And then the folds, or the wrinkles,
on the left side of the bag...

You are so detailed. You know about bags.

This one struck me, guys.

-[laughter]
-Let's see if you guys are four for five,

or, in an Is It Cake? first,

you've found all the cakes.

Ooh.

[tense music playing]

[Mikey sighs]

[woman] No.

-[contestants] Oh.
-Wow.

[Spirit] Really? Satisfaction.

-[applause]
-It's cake.

-Who are you people?
-Wow.

[Mikey] Okay. Wow.

You found all the cakes,
so everyone is up for elimination.

Including you guys.

-Oh my God.
-What?

Your expert cake vision
means there's no winner today,

so no one gets that $5,000.

But don't worry, bakers, that money
will be added to the finale pot, so...

-[woman] Oh my gosh.
-[applause]

And even though no one fooled our judges,
I still want to play Cake Or Cash?

'cause it's my favorite part of the show.

So one of you
will get a chance to win $5,000.

Any one of you could be eliminated,

and most importantly,
the four of you who survive

are still in contention
to be our Is It Cake? champion

if you make it to the finale.

Cake wall, bring us the cakes.

Judges. Okay.

You guys, I don't have to invite you up.
You're just gonna come up.

-Please come taste the cakes.
-We found every one of them, so, you know.

-Spirit.
-[Spirit] Yes?

Tell the judges
about the flavors in your cake.

The smaller one is my son's favorite.

It's marble cake with a chocolate ganache
and cookie butter.

The one that you're digging into
is my daughter's favorite.

It's vanilla cake
with Italian meringue and cookie crunch.

-It's so good.
-[Spirit] Thank you.

This was the hardest part for me.
This was a really good handle.

-[Nico] Yeah.
-And it works, right?

-I mean...
-[contestants] Wow.

It's modeling chocolate,

-so yes, you can do that.
-[woman] Oh!

[Spirit] Good job.

All right, judges,
you're moving on to Pete's cake.

Now that we're looking at this up close,

the way this folds,
it looks like an actual glove.

And look at the way
he detailed where the label goes.

Pete, can you please tell them
about the flavors in your cake?

So it's chocolate brownie cake.

And on the right glove,

it is a cookie butter
and honey Italian buttercream.

And the left glove is a toasted coconut,
peanut butter Italian buttercream.

-Oh!
-Holy... This...

-This is...
-Mm-mm, mm-mm.

-They're speechless.
-[laughter]

Toasted coconut is one
of my favorite tastes on the planet

and it really comes out.

I mean, it's a knockout. [laughs]

-[bell dings]
-Oh!

[laughter]

Moving on to Kayla's cake.
Kayla, can you talk about it a little bit?

[Kayla] It's a chocolate cake
with chocolate ganache,

and the filling is actually

a protein powder,
chocolate chip cookie dough.

I will say,
I can really taste the protein powder.

As long as it's in a good way.

-I'll take it. Okay.
-Yeah.

What's interesting is that close up,
honestly, I would have been deceived.

-Really?
-Because of the texture.

The detail is incredible.

It feels like a linoleum floor,
and I'm saying that as a compliment.

[Nico and Ally] Yes.

Moving on to Elizabeth's cake. Elizabeth?

[Elizabeth] So what we have
is a chocolate beer cake

with a salted caramel buttercream
and a caramel drizzle.

-[Ally] Beer?
-Beer.

-Wow.
-Chocolate beer.

-[Nico] That's delicious.
-It's so fluffy.

I'm so shocked that it's so airy.
It's so light.

It has a very unique flavor.
Job well done.

Thank you.

All right. Last but not least,
we have Justin's cake. Justin?

[Justin] I made you a chocolate cake

with a mocha buttercream
and cookies and cream filling.

It has a lot of espresso in it.

-Frosting is a revelation.
-The icing, it's spectacular!

-[laughter]
-Oh my God.

I don't necessarily taste the coffee,
but it's a very good cake.

Fun fact. I don't drink coffee,
so I might be on a ten in two.

-Okay.
-[laughter]

All right, judges,
you've tasted all the cakes,

so take a minute
and deliberate which of our bakers

will be playing Cake Or Cash?
and which will be eliminated.

We really have to get to,
like, the nitty-gritty.

When we talk about details,
the BOSU was really cool.

-[Nico] It looked so convincing up close.
-[Ally] Yes.

But the cake was a little bit dry.

My top one, taste-wise,
was the boxing glove.

-And the look of it is great.
-[Joel] Yeah. No, I agree.

They're both masterpieces.

This is so hard!

It's so rude. Just to, like,
talk about everything right there.

[laughter]

The yoga mat had a really
unusual flavor, which I really liked.

Here's the thing. Up close, it wasn't
the most elaborate, detail-oriented one.

[Joel] From afar,
with the kettlebells, I knew it

because the handle
on the small thing was dipped.

[Ally] Yeah.

I thought the flavor was good,
but there was something about the texture

-that was off, right?
-[Ally] I see what you're saying.

The one that I could tell right away
was the duffle bag.

The handles, the way they were connected
was really sort of sloppy.

Okay, judges, have you reached a decision?

We have.

Will you please write down the name
of the baker who will be eliminated?

[suspenseful music playing]

The answer is locked, Mikey.

I'll let you say the name of the baker
who will be playing Cake Or Cash?

On behalf of myself and the other judges,
we wanna say great job.

You all are absolutely incredible,

but I have to say, when it came down
to the two categories of taste,

but most importantly,
like, that visual deception,

there was one of our bakers
that stood out.

And for us, it was...

Pete, with the boxing gloves.

-[bell dings]
-[Mikey] Pete!

Pete!

Congratulations!

You're gonna play Cake Or Cash?

-where you could win $5,000, my friend.
-Whoo!

-[woman] Whoo!
-Amazing.

[laughter]

-Thank you.
-[Mikey] All right, bakers.

These judges were tough,

but all your cakes were incredible.

-Oh God. No, I don't want...
-No, I can't look.

However, only four of you
will be moving on,

so one of you has to go.

[suspenseful music playing]

Justin, you have been eliminated
from the competition.

Spirit, Kayla, Elizabeth,
please head over to the gallery.

You've been spared.
You guys will live to bake another day.

Justin, you're clearly
amazing and talented,

and you should be really proud
of what you did.

Oh, thank you so much.

-Good job, Justin.
-Good job!

Getting to be on Is It Cake? has been
one of the greatest accomplishments.

I wouldn't change a thing.

I feel really impressed
with what I was able to accomplish.

What do I wanna do right now?
I want a shot of tequila and a massage.

Thank you, Nico, Joel, and Ally.

[cheering and applause]

Bye!

-We're taking Justin with us!
-Bye!

[Joel] We're gonna get some pie!

No! Only cake, and you know that, Joel.

[laughter]

It's time to play Cake Or Cash?

-[cheering and applause]
-[dramatic music playing]

[Mikey] All right, Pete,
let's break it down.

You didn't fool the judges. Shame on you.

So you did not win the $5,000,
but you may not leave empty-handed.

If you find the cake, you will win $5,000.

If you don't,
that money goes into the finale pot

for our Is It Cake? champion.

Okay. Awesome. Understood.

Are you ready?

-I am.
-All right.

[tense music plays]

-On the other side of the cake wall...
-Oh my God!

[Mikey] ...are two
protein powder containers.

One of them is filled with cash
and the other one is...

-cake.
-Oh my gosh.

If you guess the cake,
you get the cash, man.

You have 15 seconds,
and your time starts now.

-[tense music playing]
-[timer beeping]

Goodness, that is incredible.

This one looks like it's tilting
just a little bit.

[Mikey] Five seconds.
You gotta lock it in, Pete.

Oh, man. Oh.

[Mikey] Three, two, one.

-Lock it in, Pete!
-[bell dings]

-That's my favorite part.
-[laughter]

Ahh!

-It's a little scary.
-It is.8

-You picked Number One.
-[bell dings]

Why do you think that one's cake?

There's a little kind of bump
over here that I saw, like, on the red,

but that one has it too,
now I'm looking at it.

How do you see this stuff?

And also, the whole label looks like
it's just a little bit to the left,

whereas that one looks more straight,
but I might be in left field on that.

My mind is bamboozled.

[Mikey] Okay, if this is cake, Pete,
what are you gonna do with the money?

Family vacation?

-Where?
-[applause]

Hawaii.

[all cheering]

[Mikey] All right, Pete,

let's see if you're going to Hawaii,

or not going to Hawaii.

[suspenseful music playing]

Oh my God!

[cheering and applause]

Oh my.

It's cake!

[woman] Yeah!

-And it smells like Hawaii.
-So good.

You just won $5,000, dude! Congrats!

-Whoo!
-Yay!

Oh, man, I love it.

And next episode,

you're all back in the game,

and I'm taking you all back to college!

[cheering]

No. No, thanks!

-I'm already in college.
-I know!

[laughter]

[upbeat music playing]
