I've spent my life

telling horror stories,

but imagine

if those stories were real.

And suddenly, you found yourself

stalked and tormented by an evil spirit.

And no one believed you.

I wasn't going insane.

[man] It makes

you feel helpless.

It was terrifying.

These are the actual tales

of terror as told by you,

the victim, who came face to face

I was raised strictly, ah,

in a religious family.

The devil and demons and things like

that were not to be talked about.

Ghosts were not

to be talked about.

It was unheard of,

it was not okay.

But it's real.

It's very, very real

and it took me a long time

[voice breaks] to figure

that out.

[interviewer] Great. Okay.

[sniffles]

[Candace cries]

[Candace] My husband and I moved into

the suburbs with our daughter, Hailey.

Very, very busy area.

Lots of neighbors.

I loved the house.

Couldn't ask

for anything better, honestly.

Billy and I, you know,

we tried to go and do fun things together

as much as we possibly can.

Just get out of the house.

Date nights were

very important to us.

You marry your best friend,

so you're out hanging out with your buddy.

[both laugh]

[Candace actor]

The old Stanfield prison.

Thought it would be

a fun thing to do.

You know, something different.

Just not, like, going out to dinner,

you know, or going

to a sporting event.

You know, it's something new.

You know, it's always

for the thrill.

It's like, "We'll go

to this creepy place."

[Candace] When we decided to go to

this Halloween event at the prison

I didn't really want to go

because of it's dark past.

It has a lot of dark history.

When we got there

I was actually very shocked

at how big this place was.

It was never ending.

Going into a place like

that you're walking in this line.

It was like

this never-ending tunnel and,

you know, rows of prison cells.

Like just cell after cell

after cell after cell.

[Billy actor] Okay!

- [Candace actor groans]

[Candace actor] I don't know.

I told you.

We got here too early.

Oh, that just means

we have to drink more.

[Billy] It was almost immediate.

I know her body language.

You could just tell that

she felt uncomfortable.

[woman] Candace!

You okay?

Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine. It's

I'm just cold. It's freezing in here.

Are you kidding? I'm boiling.

- Sure.

[creaking]

[squeaking]

Hello?

[knocking on door]

You okay?

[metal clanging]

I wanna leave.

[woman] Candace, you okay?

I The moment I walked in to that

prison, I knew I was being watched.

I feel like it was a man.

Um, you just get that sensation

sometimes where

you could almost tell, like,

the anger of it.

It's like a pressure

sitting on your back.

You just can't describe

that kind of feeling

when you walk

through a place like that.

But I think very, very,

very next night,

and that's where

that all started.

[woman 1 on TV whimpering]

You buy too much every year.

Yeah, I buy just enough.

[doorbell rings]

[Candace actor groans]

- [Billy actor sighs]

[woman 2 on TV] Poor baby.

- [laughs]

Everything just changed.

Nothing was normal again.

This thing

was from hell.

I wouldn't wish it

out of the corner of your eye,

all the time.

It's actually a real thing.

[Billy actor] Hey.

It's almost 8.

[sighs]

I just couldn't wake up.

- It's okay.

[indistinct TV conversation]

- [Hailey actor] It's about time.

[laughs] Good morning to you, too.

- [kettle whistling]

[man 1 on TV] When you send

[Johnny on TV] He shook

his fist at me and he said

[speaking other language]

[laughs] Remember that?

You used to really be scared.

[Barbara on TV] Johnny.

[Johnny] You're still afraid.

[Barbara] Stop it now!

I mean it.

[Johnny] They're coming

to get you, Barbara.

[Barbara] Ignorant.

[Johnny] They're coming

[Barbara] Stop it.

You're acting like a child.

[Johnny]

They're coming for you.

[Barbara] He'll hear you!

Here he comes now.

[TV turns off]

[Barbara] No! No!

[creaking]

[door slams]

[scream]

[knocking on door]

[woman] Hello?

Hey, Candace.

- Mmm, mmm.

Candace?

- Ah.

[laughs] Good morning.

- Ah, yeah. Bake sale.

[woman] What happened?

Just clumsy. You know?

[laughs nervously]

[Candace] I'd hear

footsteps a lot.

You could hear it

going down the hallway.

I would hear

a door handle jiggle

[door handle jiggles]

and knocking.

There's nothing you can do

and it's like pure,

frozen fear.

Your hairs stand up.

You know, you hear

people say that all the time.

It's actually a real thing.

I burned the cookies twice.

[Billy actor on phone] That's not like you.

Did you save them?

Mmm.

[Billy actor] You okay?

Why?

I just know her well enough.

I know her body language.

You can just tell that

she felt uncomfortable.

You know, bothered by something.

[Billy actor] Don't worry about it.

[microwave humming]

[exclaims]

[breathing heavily]

[breathing heavily]

[Candace] Then things

really started to escalate.

I really didn't think

things could get any worse,

but I was wrong.

When I saw this thing,

you can't describe enough fear.

Just glared at me.

It had claws

as long as my fingers and

black, black as black,

blacker than black

and it was latched on

and just staring at me.

Never seen her scared before,

so to see that reaction

from her was scary.

I have one of these

beside my daughter's bed

our bed.

Um, I keep this one

in the kitchen.

Uh, this one's been

anointed with my holy water

uh, many, many, many times.

Um, that's where the most

The majority of the violent occurrences

happen, ah, for the most part.

I could not believe

the I even had enough

nerve to have company over.

[laughs]

One of my good friends, ah,

decided to stop by over for coffee and

We were just hanging out.

[woman] So I think I have

a pretty good shot at it.

I mean, it's about time

I got back to work anyways.

about that stuff one more time,

[Candace] It's really difficult when

you're living in a situation like this.

It almost makes you

feel like you're alone,

secluded,

an outcast.

You worry about people and,

you know, being in your presence

with something

like that happening.

It's it's terrifying.

Absolutely terrifying.

Ah, doesn't surprise me.

[laughs]

- Sorry.

- [woman 1] I know.

It does not surprise me.

That's gonna happen a lot.

[Candace speaking]

[man] Candace interview,

take 2. Self sticks.

[interviewer] Ready?

- Yep.

[Candace] I did a lot of

research on the prison. A lot.

There were a lot of deaths,

a lot of beatings, and a lot of

mistreatment towards the prisoners.

This prison, also known

as the Blood Prison.

You know, something doesn't just

get nicknamed that for no reason.

I mean there's gotta be some

history behind that.

Having over 200 deaths there.

At one point the conditions

were so bad,

the inmates sued the state

and won.

A lot of people died there.

And I believe that

because of that,

they're trapped.

But I know something

followed me home

after I left that prison.

I made a huge mistake

walking through that prison

on that Halloween night.

It was the dumbest mistake

I ever made. [laughs]

Ever since that night

in the prison,

I feel like there's something

in here with me,

watching me.

[sighs] I don't know.

It seems like kind of a reach.

No, it's not.

There's something going on.

[Billy] When she first

told me, you know,

I was skeptical because it's normal

for you to try to figure things out

or to ask questions

and try to understand

what the hell you just saw.

[book rattling]

[screams]

[Hailey actor] Mom! Mom!

[Billy actor] What is it?

I don't know, it

I thought I saw someone reaching for me.

[Hailey actor cries]

[whispers] Let's get

[Hailey actor breathes heavily]

She was describing to me this

man on all fours

who looked like melted black wax

crawling beside her bed.

He disappeared into the dresser

and came crawling back out.

This man, she said looked like

his knees were bent weird.

All she could see was the eyes.

Everything looked like his skin

was melting off of him.

He was pure black and crwaling

across her bedroom floor.

[creaking]

[door creaking]

[screaming]

No! No! Stop it!

Candace!

- [Candace actor struggles]

[Candace actor] Billy! Billy!

[Candace actor exclaims]

Billy! Hide!

[Billy actor shouts]

[Candace actor breathes heavily]

What the hell was that?

Are you okay?

And now you see it too

it means, you know,

you almost wanna pinch

yourself to see if you're awake

or like is this a dream

or what's happening?

You know, you're an idiot if

if you still are skeptic

after that point.

I wasn't going insane.

I always felt like I was crazy

because nobody listened

to what I was seeing.

I got scratched so bad

that I actually bled.

My leg is completely

just on fire

I mean absolute fire.

I pull my leg back

and I've got blood.

Like, blood dripping down.

Three scratches down the back

of my knee.

I still have a scar.

Sorry, uh

You do feel like

you're going crazy.

And, um

[clears throat] I'm so sorry.

[Billy] You're the protector.

You know, it's you know,

you've got some bully in your home

you got somebody

abusing your family

right under your nose.

[Hailey actor breathes heavily]

And you can't fix it,

and you can't stop it.

And you can't fight something

you can't see.

Things got so bad that we were

in need of help horribly.

So we contacted a local medium

that lived close by.

You know, we went room by room

by room and saged, prayed,

lit white candles

she used holy oil.

[chopping]

Mom, did you do this?

Go upstairs.

Get ready.

[spirit whispering]

Candace is mine.

This thing wants me.

You can't make

It's horrific.

[Candace] The voice actually said

twice, "Candace is mine.

This thing calling me by my

name is a smack in the face.

It scared the hell out of me.

Yeah, it's like having an ab*ser

in your home that you can't see.

I had been sleeping

for, what, like an hour?

Yeah, it's pretty scary to see.

Here, just a second.

[Candace] And then

I start just

[Candace on phone]

I could feel a hand,

like, around my ankle, like

Here's the proof.

This is what's really

This is the kind of stuff

we're going through.

to make a decision to move.

We had to get out of there.

Uh, we packed up and moved.

[woman 1 on TV] A neighbor is

supposed to be your friend.

It was real peaceful there.

Good neighbors,

friendships are built to last.

[woman 2 on TV] It started as a

mild dispute between neighbors.

[creaking]

[Candace actor shouts]

You can't describe

enough fear

and I've

It's pure terror.

It was like walls leaking blood.

You wanna cry, you can't.

You wanna scream, you can't.

There's nothing you can do and

it's like pure, frozen fear.

There's no describing

the how scary it is.

And, at the same time,

how angry it makes you.

And now

[sobs]

[exhales shakily]

It makes you feel helpless.

[Billy] I wanted

to move again like, then.

It felt like we needed

to get out.

It's time to go, but hey,

I've got control here.

You know, this is my house.

You know, we decided we're going to

take it back and make it our house.

Sage, light sage,

say the Lord's prayer, holy water.

Put crosses over every doorway.

[Billy] We need

to get our life back.

And we're gonna do

whatever it takes.

We've reached out to priests to

see if someone will come and

Uh, we've tried to see if we can

have an exorcism of our house done.

It also made us closer because we're,

you know, fighting this together.

You've know, we've still

stuck by each other's side.

[Candace] I think it followed me

home and attached himself to me.

To this day, I don't know why.

I've gotten to the point

where I'm just pissed.

You're scared, you cry.

The angrier you get

the stronger it becomes.

100%.

It it wants that.

It actually does

feed off of that.
