01x07 - The Calling

Post by bunniefuu »

I hope she knows what she's doing.

She knows.

Hmm. Not this. I mean them.

-The cop's kind of cool.

-[scoffs]

Were you able to charge the phone?

Yeah. But there's no signal.

But we can still use the camera.

[beep]

This is #tt22.

This is day four

since the outbreak.

I'm talking from the control center

of Olympus,

that shitty show with some stupid people

locked in a house selling deodorant.

We did it. We got inside the studio,

which was swarming with those creatures.

We beat them

by luring them with noise

and eliminating them in smaller groups.

And now, we're here

trying to get some news

from the outside world.

["Rosa de Hiroshima"

by Secos e Molhados plays]

[console beeping]

Think of the children

Mute, telepathic

SCANNING 23 SATELLITES

FOUR SIGNALS FOUND

Think of the girls

Blind, amiss

Think of the women

Torn, altered

It's worldwide.

So

the Americans aren't coming to save us?

Think of wounds as burning roses

We're on our own.

But don't forget the rose of all roses

[snarling]

The rose of Hiroshima

The hereditary rose

The radioactive rose

Senseless and invalid

The rose with cirrhosis

The atomic anti-rose

OLYMPUS

This is the access port

to the antenna motherboard.

There are two spares in the stockroom.

As a security measure,

I'm going to reconnect the board

to reboot the system.

What's the matter?

[yawns]

Ana, I need to sleep.

-And so do you.

-I've slept enough. Turn it on.

-Turn that thing on! Here, come closer.

-Okay.

I'm going to type the reboot code.

I've restarted the system

to free up the channel protocols.

I'm reconfiguring the satellite

transmission function

to use an open signal.

[satellite machinery grinding]

TO THE LIVING

SHELTER, FOOD, A CHANCE TO RESTAR

MEETING PLACE

[Teresa] You're not telling anyone?

[sniffles]

Good morning, Olympus.

Finally, damn it.

[snarls]

You were a true hero

the day before yesterday.

Good job.

And you were going to ditch me and my mom

in the woods with no gas.

Léo in politics,

there's no place for resentment.

Yesterday's enemy may be today's ally.

I hate politics

and you were going to ditch us.

[Ana] I'm programming it

to change frequencies every 20 minutes

so we have a chance

of reaching more people.

What is this?

-I'll explain in the living room.

-Get that off the air!

She said she will explain it.

Get that off the air now!

You acted politically.

You offered information

in exchange for your lives.

That's politics.

That woman is a traitor!

[snarling]

-Keep your voice down.

-You have no idea what she's done!

What did you do?

All of you, take a good look around you.

Can you smell the stench of rotten flesh?

Can you hear that unbearable racket?

We're stuck in a cage

with limited supplies.

We will run out of food in three weeks.

And I thought this was a heavenly palace!

It is. But that's not enough.

If we're going to stand a chance,

we need to open that door,

k*ll the dead in the courtyard

for some fresh air,

and then secure the area up to the gate!

We don't have the a*mo

or the people to do that.

That's why I called more people here.

-What?

-She's transmitting a call

with the address and a map to the manhole.

You f*cking b*tch. [c*ck g*n]

We're alive.

There must be others alive outside

-to help, to resist.

-My mom is right.

If we manage to clear that area,

we could start planting.

On, no! You've all gone mad.

I don't care what I will eat

six months from now.

I just want to stay alive

-until we're rescued by the Chinese!

-You're delusional!

-Nobody's rescuing us.

-So you agree with this insane idea?

Of course not!

You had no right to do that

without checking with us first.

We don't have time for this!

The studio is powered by solar panels,

but the city isn't.

Soon there won't be anyone left

to hear our call!

Either we call more people

and get to the gate now,

or we'll end up eating each other in here.

Thousands of people may come.

Or no one.

You don't just put a map on TV

to the only way out of this place!

What if someone blocks the manhole?

We're f*cked in here!

We'll use another address.

[Ana] It's a commercial building,

built at the same time

I was designing Olympus,

but the contractors were arrested.

It was never opened. It's empty.

You want to give them

the address to a mall?

How will they make it through the gate?

That building connects to the same

utility tunnel we used.

And we'll guess who's arrived.

Let's set up a camera in that building.

Why would anyone fight their way

through all of this to get here?

You're right.

Nobody's going to risk it out there

over a map and an address.

We need to record a message.

A video with a face

that people know and trust.

We need to record

a leader's call to action.

Ana, what's the plan?

-This cable connects--

-I'm talking about the bite.

How could I have been so stupid?

You saw something different

in that dead girl.

The chance that this thing

could be reversed.

But I was wrong, you know?

Ana, you need to rest.

I don't have time for that.

I can't leave you two alone in this place

with these three psychos.

How I miss my electric razor.

Levi, you're losing control of this house.

This woman is manipulating everyone.

Cristina

when manipulation works out for you,

it's called something else.

Luck!

Don't tell Léo anything.

You won't be able to hide this for long.

I know.

Take care of him for me.

He is your son.

He'll manage on his own.

[door opens]

-Did you get the camera?

-Yeah.

Son

[snorts]

It'll work out, Mom.

[Robson] Don't worry.

The kid is with me.

Let's do this.

This is gonna turn into a refugee camp.

She's right. We need more people.

It's the end of the world!

-Exactly.

-What do you mean, "exactly"?

It's the end of one world,

and the birth of a new one.

-Tie or no tie?

-No tie.

Actually, take off your jacket

and roll up your sleeves.

Make it look like you did something.

[Robson] Hurry the f*ck up!

[Léo] I don't get why we're rushing.

Fear not, tree-hugger.

Daddy will teach you to sh**t someday.

Ana knows what she's doing.

From here on out, there will be vermin.

[Teresa] The building's server.

[zombies snarling]

[Léo] Here they come!

sh*t!

[grunts]

Tree-hugger, one. Daddy, zero.

Where did you learn to sh**t?

Playing video games.

Let's go.

[Levi humming low tones]

[Levi clears throat]

[Levi continues humming]

What is this?

-All right, that's enough.

-[Ana] Let's get on with this.

-[Levi] Right here?

-[Ana] That's good. Recording.

This is Congressman Alberto Levi

and this is a message to those of you

who are still alive.

This is a call to action.

A summons.

I'm speaking from a safe place,

with supplies, power,

and a strong wish to build a better world.

We, the survivors,

have the sacred duty

to reestablish civilization.

A world where each person matters.

A place where together

we can follow a path of peace

and prosperity.

[Levi] There are three possible

access ways to the rendezvous point,

which is an empty and safe place.

[Cristina] Cut to him.

Wait for us to contact you.

Good luck to all.

I think I can do better.

[scoffs]

More of a scoundrel than that? Impossible.

Cristina,

-I know--

-Quiet, you two.

The camera is on.

-I hear you loud and clear.

-Testing.

[claps]

Can you hear me?

[Teresa] Can you hear me?

One, two, three

I knew it wouldn't work.

-Testing

-Testing,

testing Can you guys hear me now?

-[Léo] Did you hook up the speaker?

-Yeah, of course.

This sh*t is not working.

Ana, can you hear me?

[suspenseful music plays]

[zombie snarls]

God, no!

-[Teresa] Are you okay?

-[Léo] Yeah.

[Leo pants]

Ana, everything's all right.

We're on our way back, okay?

[Levi] I'm speaking from a safe place,

with supplies, power,

and a strong wish to build a better world.

It's gonna be great.

Taste it.

Fettuccine Leonardo.

[ominous music plays]

Cheer up, Teresa.

It's not every day we make it back alive.

[Léo] Dinner's served!

[snarling]

-You're quite a cook!

-[Levi] Indeed.

It's so refreshing to have an actual meal

after so long

isn't it?

And we owe it all to you, Léo.

Thank you very much.

Right. But you wanted to ditch my mom

and me in the woods.

Come on, kid!

[Cristina chuckling]

Sooner or later,

we'll have to get over that,

-right?

-[Robson] The kid

-isn't falling for it, Congressman.

-It's Léo.

[laughs]

[snorts]

-Has anyone seen my mom?

-She must be in the bathroom.

Save some food for her.

[man over speaker] Hello!

[speaker whines]

Is anybody there?

Hello?

Hello? Congressman?

Hello?

There's no way he's coming in.

Why not?

-Hello?

-This isn't a slum party.

-We can't let just anyone in.

-Were you born a b*tch,

or did you study to become one?

Hey, my name's José. José Peixoto.

I'm a bricklayer.

I'd like to send a message

to my family up north.

Let them know I'm alive.

Hey!

It's the audition for Olympus.

-The guy has a machete.

-You follow my lead.

Well, that's pretty much it.

Actually, I wanna go in there.

Out here, it ain't working out.

I think I could be useful. The congressman

said you needed people to build.

-We do need a bricklayer.

-What for?

I vote we let him in.

How cute, the cook

still thinks this is a democracy.

This is nothing!

- Hi! Hi.

-Hi.

[woman] Can we try?

I don't know if it's working.

There's no answer.

But go ahead and try.

[woman] Excuse me.

Good evening.

My name's Barbara, and I--

Now, I'm nervous.

Come here, honey.

And this is Fábio, my husband.

He's a doctor.

And

I'm an entrepreneur.

I have a beauty salon

in Barra da Tijuca.

Our clients are more select,

so to speak.

Fábio's a pediatrician. Tell them, honey.

Hello, my name's Fábio Lima.

-I'm a doctor, a pediatrician.

-Right.

I work at the Olaria Hospital.

-[Barbara] Right.

-[Fábio] And

I'm here to share my knowledge with you,

and to help you

-in whatever you need.

- He can help you in whatever you need.

[Fábio] Indeed. And all of that

in exchange for food and shelter.

That's all.

Is anybody there?

-What are we waiting for?

-Easy, kid.

[Levi] Easy.

Life is more complicated than it seems.

No, it isn't.

The couple seem like good people.

But perhaps the bricklayer

-could be quarantined.

-Absolutely.

Quarantined?

If it were up to me,

he'd be the only one we let in.

That couple couldn't even k*ll a fly.

No way!

-Anyone alive should be let in.

-Wait! Charity has its limits!

f*ck! They f*cking left!

f*ck! Where's the girl?

[Levi] Robson,

-shut the door to the tunnel now!

-I don't answer to you, sir.

-Quickly, you idiot!

-Watch your attitude!

Do something!

It's Olympus! I can't believe it! I'm in!

This is like a dream!

I made a video for last year's audition,

but I never sent it.

Who authorized you

to bring these people here?

Ana needs a doctor.

A doctor?

["Rosa de Hiroshima"

by Secos e Molhados plays]

Think of the children

Mute, telepathic

Think of the girls

Blind, amiss

Unfortunately, I

I don't know what to do.

f*cking hell.

I'm really sorry, bro,

-but I do.

-No! No!

Don't touch my mother.

This is between me and her.

The rose of Hiroshima

How long does she have left, doc?

I'd say a few hours.

A few days, at the most.

Léo

we need to take your mother

someplace safe for her

and for us.

He's right, son.

Without color, without fragrance

Without a rose, without anything

It was that bathroom fight, right?

[Barbara] Look

if she's been bitten,

we have to k*ll her.

I'm sorry, it's nothing personal.

I mean, we just met.

I just got here.

But these are the new rules! Right?

I know my stuff!

I saw everything that happened here.

I have the Olympus Super Combo

-with 20 viewpoints at once!

-Shut up!

-Listen to me!

-Let her talk.

[Barbara] Will you listen to me?

I saw it all happen.

If they had k*lled Cleide, like Nina said,

Madonna would still be alive.

-Tell me, is your wife on meds?

-No. She's just a big fan of the show.

Same thing with the director.

Top sirloin!

Veronica said, "We've gotta k*ll him."

Self-defense.

Nobody listened, and that's what happened.

These are the rules now:

if someone's making trouble,

you gotta k*ll them.

-I vote for her elimination.

-[g*n c*ck]

Enough! Stop the chitchat

and everybody strip down!

Nobody is going to hide

any more bite marks from now on!

[snarling]

Robson, calm down. Lower that weapon.

Sure, as soon as they lower their pants.

Do it!

Turn around.

I'll do anything to stay in the Olympus.

Yeah.

That's the spirit, blondie.

Turn around for me.

Having fun?

[Ana grunts]

Léo, go inside and get a pillow

to make your mother more comfortable.

I'd like to thank you

for bringing us here.

Spit out your poison already.

[exhales]

Ana, you're a smart woman.

You know you're dying,

and you know I'm the one

who will call the shots here.

Your son's a good kid. I like him.

He's well-mannered, a good cook.

But his head is full of the wrong ideas.

The girl doesn't help.

So

out of appreciation,

I'll give you a piece of advice.

Keep your son in line,

and get him away from bad company.

If you don't do that

in the hours you have left,

rest assured

there'll be no place for him

in the palace his mommy built.

I'm glad you're back.

I'll leave you two alone.

Here, Mom.

Mom, you'll be okay.

No, I won't, Léo.

But you all might.

[gasps]

Mom, get some rest. Relax.

Just rest.

I'm so proud of you, son.

Always so independent, so resolute.

Léo, you two can't be in the hands

of that psycho.

-You need--

-We'll figure something out.

You all have to clear the courtyard.

And then the outside area.

But we can't open that door.

At least, not yet.

We need more people.

There's a way.

But I'm going to need you

to be strong, my son.

[closing theme plays]
