04x02 - An Inconvenient Tooth

[bunniefuu]

[Beaver Boy mumbling with mouth full]

CUSACK: Beaver Boy is very excited about something,

but he's having trouble getting the words out.

[Beaver Boy mumbling]

I didn't understand a word of that.

Must be some new kind of beaver talk.

PEEP: Maybe it would help if you took the log out of your mouth.

BEAVER BOY: I have something to... hey, you're right, Peep!

That's much better.

CHIRP: You were saying?

Mmm... oh, yeah.

I have something really, really exciting to show you!

BEAVER BOY: Follow me.

CUSACK: Beaver Boy was so excited about his exciting thing

that he wanted everyone to close their eyes.

BEAVER BOY: It's going to be

the biggest surprise ever, so don't look.

CHIRP: Are we almost there?

My eyeballs are getting wrinkly.

QUACK: I'm so good at this.

Look-- walking backwards, eyes closed, walking backwards.

Whoo-hoo! Look at me go!

Look at the duck go!

[Quack quacking]

BEAVER BOY: Almost...

Almost...

Now!

PEEP: Oh, no!

CHIRP: What happened?

BEAVER BOY: I cut them.

All by myself.

And it only took me two days.

PEEP: Why?

Why would you do that?

Um... I know!

Because I'm a beaver.

CHIRP: But those were cherry trees!

Now there won't be any cherries to eat.

Or shade for the birds.

Did you think of that?

BEAVER BOY: No.

I'm a beaver.

QUACK: Chirp, Peep, relax already.

There's nothing wrong with cutting a few trees.

[chuckling]

CHIRP: A few?

That was a forest.

Animals lived there, Quack.

How would you like it if somebody destroyed your home?

[sputters]

That could never happen.

CHIRP: Yes, it could.

If... if Beaver Boy cut down all the trees in the world

and made a lot of dams, then your pond would dry up.

Beaver Boy wouldn't do that.

QUACK: Would you?

Ahh...

[chewing noisily]

BEAVER DAD: That's my boy!

Look at him go!

Hmm?

[sadly]: Hmm.

Cutting down all the trees in the world--

Mom and Dad would be so proud!

QUACK: Stop.

Don't even think it.

BEAVER BOY: But I can't help it. I'm a beav...

CHIRP: We know, we know.

You're a beaver.

CUSACK: The birds didn't know what to do.

How could they stop Beaver Boy from destroying trees

when that was his beaver nature?

CHIRP: Stop!

[grunting]

CHIRP: No more trees, okay?

BEAVER BOY: But if I don't gnaw on trees,

my teeth will get bored.

QUACK: Then we'll have to find some other way

to entertain your teeth.

Ideas? Anybody?

Anyone, ideas about the teeth thing?

PEEP: Hmm.

What if Beaver Boy made some new trees?

QUACK: Yeah, well, that doesn't sound

very entertaining to teeth.

CHIRP: Go on, Peep.

What do you mean?

PEEP: Well, I was thinking that he could make some trees

that were just for chewing

and then leave all the other trees alone.

CHIRP: What an absolutely great idea, Peep!

BEAVER BOY: But how would I do that?

How would I make a tree?

PEEP: I don't know.

QUACK: Come on.

Let's go find a baby tree and ask how it got made.

CHIRP: What?

You can't ask a tr...

QUACK: Over here!

I found one!

Boy, I'm good!

So quick and fast!

[Quack chuckling]

So, tree, my name is Quack, and here's what we need to know.

How would a beaver make a tree like you?

How would he do that?

CHIRP: Quack, you are totally ridiculous.

Trees can't talk.

If you want to know how something is growing,

you have to dig it up.

[Quack sputtering]

We are not digging this up!

It's a baby tree!

And I found it.

CHIRP: We'll do it carefully

and put it back when we're done, okay?

BEAVER BOY: If I can't dig it up,

I might have to chew it instead.

All right. Take it.

[Chirp gasps]

I don't believe it!

It's growing from an acorn.

Trees grow from acorns!

PEEP: So that means if we can find a bunch of acorns,

then we can grow a bunch of trees.

BEAVER BOY: Yay! Wahoo!

And I get to cut them all down, right?

Right.

But who has acorns?

I don't.

[Quack whistling]

What?

Why is everyone looking at me?

[sighs defeatedly]

[bush rustling, Quack grunting]

QUACK: There.

My last acorn.

Don't ask for more, because there aren't any.

[acorns rattling and pattering nearby]

CHIRP: What was that?

QUACK: What was what?

PEEP: That noise that sounded

like a lot of acorns falling down.

Peep, those weren't acorns.

Just...

I gave you my acorn, my one and only acorn.

And why did I give it to you?

Because I'm a duck.

[Quack sighs contentedly]

QUACK: Yes.

The kind of duck who sacrifices so that others can...

CHIRP: Peep! Beaver Boy!

There's hundreds of acorns in here!

We can grow a whole forest!

No!

Whoa!

[groans]

CUSACK: Peep and Chirp eventually persuaded Quack

to give up his acorn stash.

They reminded him that acorns not only grow trees,

they grow on trees.

So new trees mean new acorns.

QUACK: And they're mine, right?

All of them?

CHIRP: Yes, Quack.

Beaver Boy gets the trees and you get the acorns.

BEAVER BOY: Okay, trees.

Start growing!

CHIRP: I think it might take a while.

Really?

Well, that's okay.

My teeth can wait until tomorrow.

CUSACK: And that's where we'll leave this story for now,

with Beaver Boy waiting for his trees to grow,

and Peep, Chirp and Quack heading home for the night.

QUACK: I'm going back to my bush, actually.

I have, um, a few things to take care of.

CUSACK: Okay, Peep and Chirp are going home.

Quack has a few more secret acorns he wants to eat.

And Beaver Boy is sleeping-- sleeping and dreaming

of all the trees he's going to cut down tomorrow.

That's me, Hailey and Edward.

It's April, and we are exploring the yard.

Right now, it's spring, and it's pretty brown.

The trees have no leaves yet,

and we are looking closely to see if they are growing.

I think these are little buds

and I think they're going to grow.

They're going to turn into bigger flowers.

It takes awhile for them to just get sprouting.

Edward is using a magnifying glass

to make things look bigger.

The bud is red,

but I think the leaves might be green later in the summer.

I think it's really interesting

to look at things bigger than they really are.

Then you can learn more about them.

I found a daffodil.

I think that bees go flying into here

and get nectar for their honey.

The flower is helping bees.

But we didn't see any bees around.

A little root thing!

We found little sprouts coming out of seeds.

I'll call it a sprout.

There's a root.

Yeah, I think seeds come from trees.

Some of the seeds fell down.

We are going to plant the seed sprouts.

Now we're covering up the dirt.

I think we should come back in the summer,

and we'll see how things changed around here.

[Beaver Boy snoring and chewing in his sleep]

CUSACK: When we last saw Beaver Boy, he was sleeping

in a meadow planted with acorns,

dreaming of the trees they would become.

Wow!

Wow!

Wow, wow, wow!

My trees, they're growing so fast!

[chewing noisily]

Don't chew them all at once, son.

You don't want to break another tooth.

Okay, Dad.

I'll be careful.

[chewing noisily]

[yawns]

CUSACK: Poor Beaver Boy.

He was about to get a very big shock.

BEAVER BOY: Hey!

Where are my trees?

PEEP: Hi, Beaver Boy.

BEAVER BOY: Something's wrong.

None of our acorns turned into trees.

CHIRP: We only planted them yesterday.

You have to be patient.

I'm patient.

Beavers are always patient.

What's patient?

PEEP: It means you can't expect something to happen right away.

BEAVER BOY: Oh.

So if I'm patient, the trees will grow?

CHIRP: Uh-huh.

Eventually.

BEAVER BOY: And then I can chew them down?

CHIRP: Yep.

BEAVER BOY: Then I'll be patient.

See?

Patient.

[clapping]

Is anything growing?

Not yet, but I'm being patient.

[Peep snoring]

[Chirp yawning]

Beaver Boy, you should go home.

The trees will grow without you.

BEAVER BOY: But if I go home,

then I wouldn't be being patient.

And being patient is what I want to be.

Okay, suit yourself.

[Chirp yawns]

BEAVER MOM: Here.

Have some bark.

BEAVER BOY: Oh, Mom, I'm too patient to be hungry.

Do you have a bigger stick?

CUSACK: Beaver Boy was patient for many, many days.

[thunder]

Finally, it looked like his patience was rewarded.

I see something!

Something growing.

Is it a tree?

I think it's a tree.

QUACK: Great day, huh?

[groans]

When are these acorns going to grow?

That's it.

I'm out of patience.

I need to go chew a tree.

CUSACK: While Beaver Boy searched for trees,

Peep and Chirp visited the orchard

he had already destroyed.

I was hoping these trees would get better,

but I guess they won't.

All the flowers are dead, too.

This is so sad.

[chewing sounds]

PEEP: That sounds like Beaver Boy!

CHIRP: Cutting down another tree!

No, stop!

[chewing noisily]

CHIRP and PEEP: Stop, stop, stop!

Hi, Yellow Guy.

Hi, Red Round.

Uh, you might not want to sit there.

CHIRP: Wh-Why?

[both yelling]

PEEP: Beaver Boy, you have to stop.

You're wrecking too many trees.

No, I'm not.

This is only my third tree this morning.

[both gasp]

CHIRP: Oh, boy.

[Chirp gasps]

CHIRP: Okay, that's enough.

No more trees!

The birds have spoken.

CUSACK: Beaver Boy went down to Quack's pond

so he could pour out all his woes.

BEAVER BOY: If I chew trees, the birds get mad.

If I don't chew trees, then I'm not a real beaver.

I don't know what to do.

QUACK: Uh-huh, mm-hmm, uh-huh.

Hey, do you think I need a summer hat, with a wider brim?

BEAVER BOY: Aren't you even listening?

QUACK: Of course I'm listening.

You need trees to chew, and I want my acorns back.

You said if we planted my acorns, a forest would grow.

Well, where is it, huh?

Where's my forest?

PEEP: I guess growing trees takes longer than we thought.

CHIRP: Right, which is another reason

why you shouldn't destroy them, Beaver Boy.

They're not easy to grow.

[sighs]

QUACK: Okay, so now what?

I need acorns, and Beaver Boy needs trees.

PEEP: I have a question.

Does it matter what kind of wood you chew?

BEAVER BOY: Not really.

Then why don't you just chew trees that you already cut down,

and leave the trees that are growing alone?

Wood is wood, right?

[gasps]

Hey, yeah!

Thanks!

CUSACK: Just like that, Peep solved Beaver Boy's problem.

Quack's problem, however, was still a problem.

QUACK: I gave you all my acorns, and you buried them.

But someday your acorns will become trees--

a whole forest of trees.

Doesn't that make you feel good?

No.

PEEP: Hey, look, over there!

I see something.

QUACK: Hmm.

PEEP: That's your tree, Quack.

Your acorn is growing.

You know what?

When this becomes a forest, we should name it after you.

You mean like Quack Forest?

PEEP: Yes, Quack Forest.

QUACK: I like it.

Only I like Woods better.

"Quack's Woodsy Woods."

Yeah, I like that.

PEEP: Well, then, it can be "Quack's Woodsy Woods."

QUACK: Ah, "Quack's Woodsy Woods and Tree Farm-- Keep Out."

How does that sound?

CHIRP: Why don't we just call it "Quack Donated a Few Acorns

so He's Going to Take All the Credit for the Trees Farm"?

QUACK: Now you're talking.

Can we make a sign?

We explored this yard back in the spring.

Now it's summer.

This is what it looked like in April,

and this is what it looks like now in June.

In April, we could see the sky through the branches.

Now there are lots of leaves.

Edward found his tree.

The buds back in April, they looked like this.

The buds were red.

I thought the leaves might be green.

Now it seems like a little bit different.

The leaves came out red, just like the buds.

And now his tree had something new.

They weren't here before,

but I think that they could be seeds.

I found my small tree again.

Back in April, I thought there was going to be flowers in it.

There are flowers in it!

I'm looking for a daffodil.

This is where the daffodil was, but now it's all leaves.

The daffodil will probably come back next year.

In April, we didn't see a bee in the daffodil,

but now there are bees in these flowers.

Maybe it was too cold in April for the bees.

There's the circle of rocks!

We found where we planted the three sprouts.

And now little trees are growing!

I think it's going to be a long time

before it is going to be a big tree like that.
