to today's music-tacular show!

Yadina: Today, we're meeting one of the greatest

classical musicians ever.

Ravi Shankar.

Brad: Ravi was from India and became a master

of an instrument called a sitar.

Xavier: Ravi loved Indian classical music so much,

that he wanted to share it with people all over the world.

Yadina: And now we'd like to share it with you!

So let's start the show!

Xavier/Brad: [sniffing]

Xavier: Huh?

Brad: Mmm, what's that amazing smell?

Yadina, may I have some, please?

Yadina: Of course!

They're churros - a kind of fried dough our family

in Puerto Rico likes to make.

And I made the chocolate dipping sauce myself.

Give it a try!

Brad: Ok...

[chewing] Mmm-

Whoa-h*-h*!

That sauce is goooood, Yadina!

How did you learn to make it?

Yadina: Abuela showed me!

It's based on a family recipe that her dad taught her.

It's a part of our culture.

Xavier: A delicious part!

[chomp]

Brad: Could you teach ME how to make it?

Yadina: Oh. Well, uh,

Abuela shared the family recipe with me.

It's special.

I'm not sure about sharing it with anyone else.

[hushed] Not even Dr. Zoom knows how to make it.

[squeak]

Brad: Oh. [sighs] That's okay.

[chewing] Mmmm-

Mmm-mm!

Yadina: [thinking] Hm-

Brad: [chewing] Mmmm-

Yadina: Oh, what do you think I should do, Xavier?

Xavier: [chomping] Mmm-mmm-mmm!

Umm...

Mmm! This is good!

Yadina: To the Secret Museum!

Xavier: Oh, yes!

Xavier: I wonder who the Secret Museum will send us to meet?

Brad: Hmmm, it's got a lot of strings!

That's who we're going to meet.

[gasps] years ago.

Yadina: I wonder how Ravi Shankar

can help me decide if I should share our family recipe?

Xavier: Only one way to find out...

Berby: [whirring]

Yadina: Here we go!

Xavier: It's happening! Yadina: Hang on Dr. Zoom!

Brad: Aah! Xavier: Woo-hoo!

Brad: Wooaahh!!

Yadina: Phew! Xavier: Ah!

[jumping grunts]

Xavier: This is India in .

Brad: Huh?

Ravi: [sniffs] Aaaaah!

Yadina: [hushed] Hey, is that...?

Berby: [blurp]

Brad: [hushed] It is! That's Ravi Shankar.

Yadina: Thanks, Berby! Berby: [blee blar bloop]

Sounds like he's speaking Bengali.

Ravi: Is this your first time at the market?

Brad: [nods] Mm-hmm.

Ravi: In that case - Welcome!

This is one of my favorite places in the world.

May I show you around?

Yadina: That'd be great!

Ravi: I'm happy to.

It feels good to share my culture.

Follow me!

The market is where people connect, see performances,

and buy things - like food and flowers.

[bicycle bell rings] Yadina: Oooh, I love these ones!

Ravi: Me too! They're called marigolds.

In India, they represent the sun,

happiness and positivity.

We use them in celebrations.

Brad: [off screen] What is that?

Brad/Xavier: [sniffing]

Xavier: Oh yeah!

It smells like--DESSERT!

Ravi: Gulab jamun!

You must try some.

Xavier: All right!

Ravi: Four, please.

[sniffs] Aaah!

Yadina: [gaps] Wow! Xavier: Oooh!

[chewing]

Yadina: [gasps] These are delicious!

Xavier: As good as your chocolate churro sauce?

Yadina: Maaaaaybe...

Uh, what are they made of?

Ravi: The ba*ls are just dough,

but it's the syrup, that makes them so special.

It has rosewater in it,

made from roses, and saffron.

Brad: I've never eaten flowers before...

Mmm...I like it!

♪ [sitar music] Ravi: Oh, it's starting!

The best part!

♪ [sitar music] ♪

Ah, beautiful!

Yadina: What is it she's playing?

Ravi: It's a SITAR.

It's been around for hundreds of years.

It's a very important part of Indian classical music,

which is part of my culture.

Xavier: Oh. It looks kind of like a guitar.

Ravi: Yes!

But it has many, many more strings.

You only play the ones at the top though.

The others vibrate to help create the beautiful sound.

I reaaaally want to learn how to play it one day.

Yadina: Playing the sitar looks hard.

Do you think Ravi ever gets to learn?

Berby: [blee blee blarp]

Xavier: I think Berby's about to show us.

Trio: Ufph!

Brad: NOT as soft as the flowers.

Xavier: Hm! I wonder where we are now?

Or where Ravi is?

Ugh?! [grunts]

Yadina: Ravi!

You did learn to play the sitar!

Ravi: I did!

I spent seven years training with a master teacher.

Check this out...

♪ [plays scales up and down] ♪

Brad: [gasps] Amazing! Xavier: Wow!

Yadina: Whoa.

I spent more like seven days learning to make

Puerto Rican food from my Abuela.

She's also a master.

[giggle]

Ravi: I loved learning, too!

And sharing what I learned.

That's why I opened a music school in India,

and another one in the United States.

It's ALSO why I'm at this music festival.

Here, I get to share Indian classical music

with so many more people.

It feels good to share my culture.

And this way, the music will never be lost or forgotten.

Yadina: Hmmm.

Maybe Ravi's right.

I wouldn't want my family's churro sauce to be forgotten.

And, if I share it with more people,

more people get to enjoy it!

Brad: Like how WE enjoyed the market!

Xavier: And the gulab jamun!

AND the music.

Yadina: So...

Maybe it would be good if I shared

Abuela's recipe with Brad.

Yadina/Brad: [giggle]

Ravi: [giggle]

I'd love to hear more about this recipe,

but it's my turn to perform.

Yadina: Cool!

Yadina: Oh yea, time to go home!

Xavier: Wow!

Yadina: Another time, Xavier.

Brad: Yadina? I'm ready to learn!

Xavier: This time, I'll try to learn more and eat less.

Yadina: Excellent! Ready to start,

Abuela: [chuckles] Ready!

She's one of the greatest athletes who ever lived!

She was a champion basketball player, golfer,

an Olympic track and field star,

AND she played baseball, football, tennis,

swimming, archery, even marbles!

Xavier: How did Babe get so good at all this?

Agh! Brad: Don't worry.

Xavier: [giggles]

Xavier: Hey Yadina! What's wrong?

Yadina: T-ball's done for the year.

I'm gonna miss playing on a team...

Brad: Well, basketball starts next week.

Maybe you could try out for Xavier's team?

Yadina: That would be cool!

Xavier: [as an announcer] Xavier speeds down the court,

he passes to Yadina, she takes the shot...

she must be good at sports.

Brad: [nervous giggle]

It's more upside-down than I was picturing.

Babe Didrikson Zaharias: [off screen] She goes for it-and-

Yadina: Do you guys hear that?

Babe: [off screen] She made it, yes!

Now she's going for a -pointer...

Berby: [whirring]

Xavier: Look! It's Babe Didrikson Zaharias.

Babe: Technically my name's Mildred Ella,

but everyone calls me Babe.

Yadina: Babe, it looks like you're

REALLY good at basketball.

Babe: Thanks! I am pretty good.

My team just won the championship.

But, I have an even BIGGER goal I want to reach...

Yadina: You do?

Babe: I want to be

The Greatest Athlete Who Ever Lived!

Brad: The greatest EVER?

Babe: Yep! That's why I'm preparing for the Olympics,

where I can compete against the best athletes in the world.

In javelin: a sport where you throw a spear

as far as you can!

In hurdles: a race where you jump over obstacles.

AND in high jump!

Which is pretty much how it sounds.

Yadina: Well it all sounds hard.

Babe: It will be!

But being prepared can help you do difficult things.

And that means, I've got a lot of training

and practicing to do.

Welcome to my gym!

Brad: Wow! Xavier: Woaaah!

Babe: My dad made it for me.

I use this equipment to strengthen my muscles.

Xavier: Cool! Maybe this stuff will help us

get better at basketball, Yadina?

Xavier: [grunting] Yadina: [giggles]

Xavier/Yadina: [loud grunting]

Xavier/Yadina/Brad: [louder grunts]

Babe: It took a lot of training

before I could lift that one.

[loud grunts]

And now look!

Xavier/Yadina/Brad: Whoooooa!

Babe: Having strong arms means that I can throw farther.

[grunts]

Brad: Wow! That was far!

Babe: Not far enough for the Olympics though.

[javeling swishes through the air]

I'll need to keep practicing.

Yadina: Woah.

Babe: That's the power of training and practice.

Now, time to prepare for the next event...

I'm training for hurdles,

which means, I need to run fast and jump high...

[grunting]

[fast breaths]

[groan] I'm okay!

I didn't make it over this time.

But I will! I just need to keep at it!

Xavier/Brad/Yadina: [cheering] Go Babe go!

Babe: On to prepare for event number three.

Babe: Nope. I just gotta keep training

and practicing until I make it!

I know it'll be hard, but, being prepared

Yadina: Babe is an amazing athlete.

But she practiced and trained and got even better!

So, maybe if I prepare for basketball tryouts,

I could get better too!

Yadina: But...where's Babe?

I've decided to become a golf pro,

so I'm off to prepare! See ya!
