MR. RABBIT: Why, thank you, Elinor.
Colouring green is great! [giggles]
ELINOR: [giggles] Oh, Dad?
Do you think Mom will like this story we're drawing for her?
MR. RABBIT: I'm sure of it.
ELINOR: I want to make her a story about how great she is as a forest ranger.
See, she's going to be helping a spider,
a bird, and a butterfly.
MR. RABBIT: And don't forget the green trees.
ELINOR Mm-hm.
When is mom coming home?
MR. RABBIT: Soon, I think.
ELINOR: Not too soon, I hope.
We still haven't finished the drawing.
MR. RABBIT: Well, what color should I make these flowers?
ELINOR: Hmm,
how about orange?
MR. RABBIT: Oh, well, "orange" you a great color picker! ELINOR: [giggles]
[Generator shuts off]
ELINOR: [gasp] What happened?
MR. RABBIT: Oh, looks like the lights went out.
ELINOR: Why?
MR. RABBIT: The power must have been cut off because of the storm.
[click click]
Don't worry, I'm sure it'll come back soon.
Let's go get a flashlight from downstairs.
ELINOR: Do you think the lights are out all over Animal Town?
MR. RABBIT: Probably, but I'm sure your mom and Ms. Beaver are working to fix it.
Until then, we have our mighty flashlight! [click]
Hmm.
Uh-oh, it looks like it needs new batteries.
No problem, there's some in the kitchen.
Wait here, Elinor. I'll be right back.
ELINOR: Huh?
Is that a cactus?
What is a big cactus doing in the living room?
[giggles] Oh, I see.
The shadow of the coat stand looks like a cactus.
That's so funny. [giggles]
Wait a minute, what's that?
A tree?
In the house?
[giggles] Oh, it's the shadow of this little plant.
But the shadow looks so much bigger.
I wonder why?
MR. RABBIT: I found the batteries for our mighty flashlight!
We have light!
Wee-oo wee-oo wee-oo wee-oo!
ELINOR: Hey Dad, I thought I saw a cactus growing in the house.
MR. RABBIT: A cactus?
ELINOR: See! The shadow of the coat stand looks like a big cactus.
And the shadow of that little plant looks like a big tree!
MR. RABBIT: Whoa, cool. It does look like a tree!
ELINOR: Shadows are so interesting!
I wonder how they work.
MR. RABBIT: Good question. Here, take this.
ELINOR: Whoa! I can use the mighty flashlight?
MR. RABBIT: I think you are ready, young grasshopper.
But it's not just a flashlight.
It will make shadows. Give it a try!
ELINOR: [gasps] I made a shadow of the lamp!
MR. RABBIT: You sure did. What do you notice?
ELINOR: It looks like the lamp blocks the light from the flashlight
from shining on the wall.
And that makes the shadow!
MR. RABBIT: You figured it out!
ELINOR: Dad look! My hand shadow is so big!
And now it's getting smaller and smaller.
Oh, I get it.
When my hand gets closer to the flashlight, the shadow gets bigger.
And when it's farther away, it gets smaller!
MR. RABBIT: Nice thinking. You noticed a pattern.
Objects closer to the light make a bigger shadow.
ELINOR: I wonder what would happen
if the flashlight moved instead of my hand.
MR. RABBIT: Oh, let's try it out.
ELINOR: Oh, look, it's a shadow of me! [giggles]
Look at my ears.
They're all stretchy and wiggly! [giggles]
MR. RABBIT: [giggles] Yep, when I move the flashlight,
the light hits you at different angles,
so the shadows move around.
ELINOR: Wait a sec.
How did the plant make a shadow when all the lights were out?
MR. RABBIT: Another great question from Elinor!
What do you think?
ELINOR: I think, we need more observations.
Hey!
There IS light coming through the window, but where's it coming from?
ELINOR: [gasp] Dad!
It's the moon!
The light is shining off the moon and making shadows!
That's so interesting!
MR. RABBIT: Should we see what else we can turn into shadows?
ELINOR: Yeah.
How about...
[gasp]
An apple!
And a book.
Dad, I notice a round apple makes a round shadow.
And a square book makes a square shadow.
MR. RABBIT: [giggles] Yes, the shape of the object makes the shape of the shadow.
ELINOR: Dad look! I made a shadow bunny, like me!
MR. RABBIT: Awesome! Oh, wait a sec.
[imitating Mr. Dog] Oh, [giggles] hello, Elinor!
It's me, Mr. Dog.
ELINOR: [giggles] Hey, Mr. Dog! What are you up to?
MR. RABBIT: [imitating Mr. Dog] Oh, nothing much. There's a blackout, as you know.
What are you doing?
ELINOR: We're making shadows.
BOTH: [giggles]
Hey Dad! Look at my hand.
It looks like a butterfly.
MR. RABBIT: So it does.
ELINOR: Such a pretty butter-
[gasps] Dad!
We haven't finished my story for Mom!
And she'll be home any minute.
MR. RABBIT: Uh-oh.
ELINOR: Come on!
I have so much to do!
MR. RABBIT: I'll hold the flashlight.
ELINOR: But then, how will you finish coloring the forest?
MR. RABBIT: Oh. Good point.
ELINOR: Huh. It's just too dark.
I'll never finish my story before Mom gets home.
ELINOR: Wait a minute.
I have an idea how we can tell Mom our story!
RANGER RABBIT: [calling out] Hello!
Where is everyone?
MR. RABBIT: Welcome home, honey.
How's the power outage going?
RANGER RABBIT: Ms. Beaver and her crew are almost done.
The lights should be back on any minute.
MR. RABBIT: Well, you'd better come up here.
We have something to show you!
ELINOR: [giggles]
MR. RABBIT: Why don't you take a seat over here?
RANGER RABBIT: Okay...
ELINOR: [giggles]
MR. RABBIT: Now, just relax, in the shadows! [excited giggles]
RANGER RABBIT: In the shadows?
ELINOR: [narrating voice] Welcome to our shadow story.
RANGER RABBIT: A shadow story? How interesting...
ELINOR: Once upon a time, there was a beautiful forest.
And in the forest, there lived a bird who loved to fly way up to the sky.
RANGER RABBIT: That looks just like a bird!
ELINOR: And a spider,
who loved to crawl along the ground, like this.
[spider voice] Crawl, crawl, crawl.
RANGER RABBIT: Very nice crawling spider.
ELINOR: [spider voice] Thank you!
[normal voice] And a fluttery butterfly!
RANGER RABBIT: Wow, such realistic animals.
ELINOR: Except, they're just shadows.
RANGER RABBIT: [laughs] Oh, oh, right.
ELINOR: But then one day there was a terrible storm.
Psst! Dad!
MR. RABBIT: Oh, right.
[clicking flashlight] MR. RABBIT: [storm noises]
ELINOR: [narrating] And the butterfly, the spider and the bird got lost.
Luckily, a hero was coming to save the day!
A kind, smart, strong and very brave Forest Ranger named...
Ranger Rabbit!
RANGER RABBIT: Hey, that really looks like me.
ELINOR: Yep, Dad is very good at shadows.
MR. RABBIT: Well, I'm happy to lend a hand! [giggles]
ELINOR: [giggles] And when Ranger Rabbit came,
she found all the animals and helped them all find their home.
The bird flew up to its tree.
The spider crawled off to its web.
And the butterfly fluttered home to its flowers.
The end.
RANGER RABBIT: What a wonderful story!
MR. RABBIT: [giggles] Yeah!
ELINOR: [gasps]
MR. RABBIT: Whoa!
RANGER RABBIT: It looks like the blackout's over.
MR. RABBIT: Hey!
That means you can finish your drawings now, Elinor.
ELINOR: Yeah, but I'd rather keep playing with the shadows.
Can we turn off the lights?
MR. RABBIT [Imitating Mr. Dog] You got it, Elinor! [barks]
ELINOR: You make a bunny too, Mom!
ALL: [giggles]
ELINOR: Cool!
RANGER RABBIT: Oh, a swan, good one, honey-bunny!
ELINOR: How do you do that one?
OLIVE: The Tree that Eats Toys.

OLIVE: I can't wait to play catch in the park!
What should we use first?
ELINOR: Oh! We could toss the ball first.
Or the frisbee, or beanbags?
I want to play catch with everything!
ARI: Yeah, me too!
Whoa! Whoa- whoa- whoa-
Phew!
See? I caught everything.
KIDS: [giggles]
ELINOR: Well, that's what I call using your head, Ari! [giggles]
ARI: [gasps]
OLIVE: I'll get it!
[giggles] Hey, who splashed me?
ELINOR: I don't know!
ARI: I just got splashed, too!
TITO: Me too!
ARI: Rollie, was that you?
ROLLIE: No, I promise it wasn't me!
ELINOR: [grunts]
Hmm.
TITO: I don't see anything that could have splashed us.
ELINOR: Whoa!
OLIVE: What is it, Elinor?
ELINOR: Look at these interesting fish in the stream.
ARI: Hi, fishies!
Cool, I like their black stripes.
OLIVE: I wonder what kind of fish these are?
SALLY: Hi everyone!
Let's go!

ARI: Okay, are you ready to see the most amazing,
awesome frisbee throw in the history of all frisbee throws?
OLIVE: Oh, really?
ARI: Uh-huh. So go long!
Longer!
And prepare to be amazed by...
MR. BAT: Ari!
ARI: Huh?
Dad? What're you doing here?
MR. BAT: Sorry, Ari, but I completely forgot that you have a checkup at the dentist.
ARI: That's today?
MR. BAT: Not only is it today, it's right now!
Sorry to pull you away from your friends.
ARI: Aw. Can I come back as soon as I'm done?
MR. BAT: Of course!

The frisbee got stuck in the tree!
How do we get it down?
ELINOR: Don't worry, Olive.
It's time for rabbit power! And rabbits can jump!
[grunts]
OLIVE: Nice jumps, Elinor.
But that frisbee is just too high.
But, what if we shake the tree?
ELINOR: Good idea!
OLIVE: [grunts] ELINOR: [grunts]
SALLY: What's going on?
ELINOR: Our frisbee got stuck in the tree!
ROLLIE: Uh oh. How are you gonna get it down?
OLIVE: We're not sure.
SALLY: Hey! I have an idea!
Maybe we can knock it down with this ball! [grunts]
ROLLIE: Can I try?
ELINOR: Uh oh.
TITO: What happened?
OLIVE: Our frisbee got stuck in the tree.
ROLLIE: So I threw the ball to try to knock it down, but it got stuck, too!
TITO: The ball was a good idea.
But maybe, if I try this! [grunts]
Or, this?
Now the racquet is stuck.
ELINOR: What are we going to do now?
ROLLIE: Well...
KOA: [grunts]
ROLLIE: [grunts]
ELINOR: [grunts]
OLIVE: [grunts]
TITO: [grunts]
ROLLIE: Aw, great.
Now all our toys are stuck in the tree!
TITO: Not all of them.
We still have one ball left.
ELINOR: Wait!
ROLLIE: Don't do it!
OLIVE: Oh no!
TITO: Oh.
KIDS: [sighs]
MS. HIPPO: What's wrong, kiddos?
Why aren't you playing?
OLIVE: Ms. Hippo, I love trees, but I have to be honest.
I'm not too happy
with this tree right now.
ELINOR: We got our frisbee stuck in the tree.
We threw a ball up to get the frisbee down, but the ball got stuck, too.
OLIVE: Then we tried throwing everything else up there, and, well...
MS. HIPPO: Oh. I see.
[grunts]
MR. RABBIT: Oh, you know what? I have a tall ladder at our house.
I'll go get it.
ELINOR: That would be great, Dad!

MR. RABBIT: No problem, honey bunny!
Super Dad to the rescue!
MS. HIPPO: Don't worry, kids. Mr. Rabbit will be back soon.
MR. RABBIT: Oh. Our house is this way. [giggles]

OLIVE: At least the tree had fun playing catch.
It caught every ball!
[Wind blows strongly]
MS. HIPPO: Oh! My hat!
ELINOR: We'll go get it!
[gasps] I got squirted with water again!
Huh?
OLIVE: What is it, Elinor?
ELINOR: I got squirted with water, but the only things around are these fish.
The fish couldn't have been squirting us, could they?
OLIVE: I don't know.
ELINOR: Hmm.
Fish swim, and fish splash, but I don't think they squirt.
OLIVE: Whoa, what just happened?
ELINOR: The fish squirted water!
OLIVE: But why would it do that?
Why is it squirting water at that bush?
ELINOR: I don't know!
OLIVE: Oh! The fish is trying to get the bugs so that it can eat them!
ELINOR: So that's why these fish squirt water.
To knock bugs into the stream! That's so interesting!
MS. HIPPO: Did you find my hat?
OLIVE: Here you go, Ms. Hippo.
MS. HIPPO: Thank you, Olive!
ELINOR: Ms. Hippo!
There are little grey-and-black fish in the stream,
and they keep squirting water.
OLIVE: We thought they were squirting at us,
but then we saw they were squirting at some bugs.
MS. HIPPO: Ah, you've found some very unusual fish!
This fish is called an Archerfish.
ELINOR: Archer?
MS. HIPPO: Like someone who shoots a bow and arrow,
the Archerfish shoots a stream of water from its mouth.
OLIVE: We noticed it was squirting water at those bugs to knock them down.
ELINOR: Yeah, so they could fall on the water where the fish could eat them.
MS. HIPPO: That's right, Elinor.
Animals use all kinds of ways to get the food they need.
OLIVE: It sure is clever to use water
to knock those insects down.
ELINOR: [gasps] That's it!
I know how we can get our toys out of the tree!
Come on!
Ms. Hippo, can we borrow your hose?
MS. HIPPO: I suppose so.
As long as you don't throw it up in that tree! [giggles]
ELINOR: I promise we won't.
MS. HIPPO: Oh, I see what you're trying to do!
TITO: Great idea, Elinor!
MS. HIPPO: Very clever!
And that tree needed some water anyway.

ELINOR: Ready!
