♪ Yeah, we'll make it right on City Island. ♪

[upbeat music]

- Grandpa Edison, I'm so excited to visit Torchy,

the Welcoming Statue!

- Torchy is one of the biggest tourist attractions

in City Island!

- She sure is.

I mean, she's over feet tall.

Torchy is a statue that welcomes visitors to City Island.

- How old were you when you first saw Torchy, Grandpa?

- Believe it or not, I was eight years old, just like you.

[dreamlike music]

I was born in another country, Boot Island.

My parents decided to move to the United Islands

to find a new life for our family.

They were dreamers, a lot like you, Watt.

- [Watt] Cool, did they like robots too?

- They liked a lot of things.

We left everything we knew to take a long boat ride

to the greatest city in the world, City Island.

We were immigrants.

That means we moved here from another country.

Back then, the first stop was Port Welcome.

The city helped us become citizens.

- [Watt] That's so cool.

Did you get ice cream?

- [Edison] No, but we got a lot of forms to fill out.

Becoming a citizen was hard work, but it was worth it.

- Now just sign your name on the bottom line.

Glad to have your autograph.

Welcome to City Island.

[kids laughing]

- [Edison] We moved into a neighborhood

with other immigrants from around the world.

It was crowded, and we spoke different languages,

but we all had fun.

- Games will never get more exciting than this.

- [Edison] I did well in school

and became the first one in my family to go to college.

I studied science in school with my buddies Beaker,

Volt, and Atom,

and of course, my brilliant professor, Mustard Einstein.

- [Frank] He created the theory of relish-tivity.

- [Watt] Wow!

- [Edison] Now, a few years later,

I was living in the west side of City Island

with all the artists.

- The answer's floating in the breeze.

[audience snapping]

- I dig it.

- [Edison] This was the year

of the famous City Island blackout.

The whole city went dark.

[door knocks]

I heard a knock at my door, and that's when I saw her.

- Is everything okay in here?

Do you need a light?

- It was the love of my life, your grandmother, Candle.

I was from another country, and she was born here,

but we had a lot in common.

- Right away there was a spark between us.

[kiss smacks]

- [Watt] Ew, gross, Grandpa!

- [Watt] Candle and I were soon married.

- [Candle] And we've been lighting the way for each other

ever since.

- [Edison] I found a good job

at the City Island Electric Company,

and we decided to start a family.

- [Both] Where is he?

[baby giggles]

[dreamlike music]

- And here we are today, shining brighter than ever.

- Look, it's Torchy!

- Just as I remember her.

She's beautiful.

- You don't look so bad yourself, Edison.

- You remember me?

- Of course, you're part of what makes the city

so diverse and special.
